Nick Foti left Riverdale New York, seven years ago, leaving his dreams and the only family he ever knew behind. Most of all he left the one girl that managed to completely unravel him. Samantha Lanza was his best friends little sister. She wasn't meant to be his, she was his to protect like a sister.
When he finally decided he couldn't fight his attraction to her, events unfold that force him to leave her and the only life he has ever wanted behind. Forced to work for his father in Seattle, Nick is miserable. He spends most his time in the boardroom playing the corporate mogul. The rest of the time he loses himself in a bottle and random woman that will never compare to the one he left behind.
One day Nick hits rock bottom and decides he’s had enough, he hangs up his suit and tie and sets out to reclaim the life he was meant to have. He heads back to Riverdale just when the family he has always loved as his own needs him the most. Everyone welcomes Nick with open arms, except Sam. She wants nothing to do with him. Can he convince her he’s a changed man who wants nothing more than to have her in his arms forever? Or has is the betrayal she feels too great to forgive
Janine Infante Bosco lives in New York City, she has always loved reading and writing. When she was thirteen, she began to write her own stories and her passion for writing took off as the years went on. At eighteen, she even wrote a full screenplay with dreams of one day becoming a member of the Screen Actors Guild.
Janine writes emotionally charged novels with an emphasis on family bonds, strong willed female characters, and alpha male men who will do anything for the women they love. She loves to interact with fans and fellow avid romance readers like herself.
She is proud of her success as an author and the friendships she's made in the book community but her greatest accomplishment to date would be her two sons Joseph and Paul.
This is a book about lost dreams, found dreams and how sometimes happily ever after is hard to find. Nick and Sam’s story is the main focus of Broken Pieces but Cara and Jake’s story continues in this second book of the series. Luke plays a very important role as the story unfolds. When Nick returns home after six years he knows that it will be hard to convince Sam that he would not be leaving again and that he wants a chance to be with her. He is not expecting the cold wall of hate that she has surrounded her heart with that refuses to even listen to him. What happened to make her hate him so much? Samantha had felt something for him before he was forced to leave Riverdale. Why won’t she even give him the time of day? Sam is having drinks with two of her fellow teachers when Nick arrives and they end up doing shots of Tequila. The next thing she knows she is waking up in his bed the next morning without any memories of the night before!
Samantha had promised herself that she would never lower her shields again and let Nick into her heart. He had left six years ago without any explanation and now that he was back he wanted to take up where they left off. Not happening when there was more to the story than just his leaving without a word. Only her brother Luke knew that after graduation Sam had gone to see Nick and had come back with a broken heart. What did Sam find when she went to see him? Nick does not know that she had tried to see him at his office and she swore he never would. The attraction is still just as strong between them but she cannot forget what she saw in Seattle. It really is hard for Sam to keep him at arm’s length when he is partners with her brother Luke and helping her brother Jake as he battles for his life. Luke is a fixer and wants to solve everyone’s problems and has given Nick his approval to go for a relationship with Sam. But even Luke does not know the real reason that Nick had to leave all those years ago, only Jake knows part of what happened. Nick had taken the blame for a beating that Jake gave Cara’s father and was arrested. Nick would do anything for Jake and his family. They loved him and accepted him as a member of their family. Jake was a brother to Nick. Nick was released from jail, the charges done away with all because he promised his mother that he would leave and go to his father. But Nick was back now and there were questions being asked that he would have to answer.
Sam and Luke are both hoping that they will be able to help their brother Jake get well. Their entire family has rallied around Jake and Cara to support them unconditionally. Nick has been a strong shoulder for Jake and his family to lean on. Luke’s test show that he is a perfect match, Jake and the family is sure that their prayers have been answered. Sam finally decides that it would ok to just have sex with the man that she has always wanted and keep it physical only. No dating, no talking just sex only! Of course she does not take in to account how Nick will react. Nick is a man of action and he is not going to let Sam get away with no interaction other than sex so he goes after her and doesn’t give her a chance to change her mind. Can Nick convince Sam that the past is behind them and the future is before them? Will Jake and Cara make it through this hard time and have their happily ever after? Can Luke accept that he cannot always fix everything?
Would I recommend this book: Yes! When you can feel the love, joy, pain and loss of the characters an author creates you know that you’ve read a truly unique book. This book has so many different story lines that all converge to make you the reader need to read the next page. Submerge yourself in this beautifully written story of the journey that the characters take to find what is most important.
Would I read other books by this author: Yes! When an author can touch the reader so deeply that they feel the joy, love and sadness of each character in a book, that author has a true gift. Ms. Bosco has that gift! I cannot wait to read the next book in The Riverdale Series.

WARNING: BE READY TO LITERALLY CRY YOUR EYES RIGHT OUT OF THEIR SOCKETS (IF THAT WAS HUMANLY POSSIBLE...)
When you find yourself sobbing in the bathroom at 11:30pm and used up half a box of tissues after reading a book, then you know you've struck gold.
I cannot fully provide a review without getting entirely emotional all over again...but my gawd. Talk about rip your heart out, chew it up and spit it out then have it placed back in your chest with bandages.
This time around we are more focused on Nick & Samantha. You still get more of Cara & ...(gulp) Jake...ahem.... and then some.
Nick & Samantha's past feelings come to light, but not without much fighting from Samantha. Nick is totally crush worthy. Samantha...well, I wanted to shake her around a bit for not just being straight up with Nick and her feelings.
But, unplanned events occur that finally get the ball rolling between these two.
I really want to continue on with my review but my emotions are really so raw still, especially because I'm still on the roller coaster with my box of tissues in the final book of the series....
But overall - still a beautiful, realistic journey...if you're ready for this ride.
Janine! . . .Your breaking my heart! There is so much heart felt emotion in this book. A lot of tears and later some laughter. (Joe is quite a lovable, amusing character!). So many tears at one point that I couldn't see the words and had to take a break. The centerpiece of book 2 is the journey Nick and Sam travel to their HEA. Was also happy to find some answers to questions left unanswered in the first book. I was lucky enough to receive ARCs of this amazing series in exchange for an honest review. Five Stars.

Words escape me and what emotion this book actually causes. It is a truly emotional read that will make you cry. I've read many books that bring out my emotions, but this is the first book I have ever cried with. The pain and heartbreak are powerful throughout reading this book. Don't get me wrong there is laughter, but there's also pain and sorrow. The emotions put into not only this book but this whole series are mind blowing.These books are not meant to be stand alone and need to be read in order. This book as well as the first will definitely make you think about life and love.
~~~~~~~~~~Patricia's ★★★★★ Review~~~~~~~~~~
Well this installment starts out with the whole Lanza gang thinking that Jake will be cured of the cancer with a bone marrow transplant. Jake thinking that he will be ok and asked Cara to marry him. Meanwhile Nick still can't understand why Sam hates him so much. These two are running around acting like chickens with there heads cut off and tap dancing while doing it. Nick is so in love with Sam that he doesn't know what to do and Sam has feeling s for Nick but she is so afraid that he will leave a her again and break her heart. Well tragedy strikes with the death of Jake and some of the family goes into a whirlwind especially Cara and Luke. The secrets of why Nick left finally come out and Sam sees that he isn't a bad guy after all. Does Luke end up having feelings for Cara more than what he should? All the while Cara is going down a road of destruction but taking pills and drinking herself into oblivion. Will Nick and Sam finally get their happily ever after and will Cara finally figure out how to get herself out of this whirlwind she is in before it is too late? Will Luke finally understand his feelings he has going on?
OH GOSH, wow. I stand by my review of Pieces (#1). Janine, you have no idea what you have done to me. You put me right there in the Lanza household. Every step of the way I felt present with them, not only did I travel in my mind but I heard the laughter, saw tears of happiness and tears of pain. I've seen reviews that mention a book being a gem, that's an understatement where this is concerned, Jake~ I LOVE YOU & your crooked smiles, waggly eyebrows you jokester. Let's not forget to mention Nick, holy hotness, what the hell Sam, you irritated me! Cara ugh, I don't know, I just don't know, Luke~Mr.Responsible (Jake wore off on me)fix this the best way you can, Joe, I see where Jake gets it. Love him! Deb, you're cool too! I'm so waiting to see where you will take this. Again many things I didn't see coming and at one point thought I was going to be needing CPR and I hope for those of you yet to read this series, that it hasn't been ruined by a spoiler or a review that basically gives wording without being intentional that leads you to conclusions that are true based on what is said. The pain I feel with everything I've read about this clan can not be put into words, I've had to put my Kindle down and walk away for breaks it hurt that bad, on to #3.
I stumbled across this series when Goodreads made the recommendation to read Pieces by Janine Infante Bosco and I do not regret it. This series was phenomenal and is probably one of the best series that I have read in a while. I loved every book in this series. Even though each book’s main focus are on different characters, the books are much intertwined. These books are not standalone and need to be read in order.
This series follows the lives of the Lanza siblings (Jake, Samantha and Luke) and their friends, Nick Foti and Cara Sloane. I have never laughed and cried so hard during a series before. These books are filled with love, friendship and loss. By the end of the series, you feel that you are truly a part of these characters lives.
I highly recommend this series. You won’t be disappointed.
Beautiful heartbreaking make you cry your eyes out romance novel. I'm not a person who crystallized easy reading sad stories but there's just something about losing the one you love in such a way that gets my heart pumping over time and breaking. Although this was Nick and Sam's story of finding each other, the author continued to include the rest of the gang. About 40% in all I could do was cry for Jake and Cara. This novel was absolutely beautiful in all ways.
A beautiful story of love and loss. The second book in the Riverdale series. Jake and Cara's story continues and Samantha and Luke's begin. It will make you feel like you are there with them it is so real. Parts of it made me cry it was so sad and others made me laugh out loud. Janine Infante Bosco is a Fantastic writer.
I stayed up past my bedtime to finish this book. Still love all the characters and the story is touching. There are still a lot of editing errors, but not as many as the first book. Off to read book 3 and see how the story ends.
Book one you got to know the family and friends, and fall in love with them. Book two well you get your heart broken, and then you slowly put the pieces back together.. it's an amazing series so far.
**** I Love Story Time was gifted an ARC of Broken Pieces (The Riverdale Series) by Janine Infante Bosco in exchange for an honest review****
I just got done reading Pieces (book 1) of this series and was so lucky to be able to go right into Broken Pieces. If I had to wait...I would have died!! Literally died!! I didn't even wait to start this, I needed to see what happened between Nick and Samantha (Sam). In book 1, you meet Nick and Samantha and can tell by their heated history that this was going to be good! Sometimes when reading a series, the second book does not live up to the standards of the first book...Broken Pieces did not disappoint!! I LOVED this book just as much as the first. I really liked that even though this book was mainly written to be about Nick and Sam it continued the story between Jake and Cara. Now, before I get into Nick and Sam's story I can not write this review with out mentioning my loving Jake. I thought in Pieces that I was going to die from all the crying I did. Well, this book followed right along and made me ugly cry even more. I can not believe the love and strength that Cara and Jake showed as they continued on their bumpy road. The strength of the family and the support that they were given while dealing with what life brought them... I was truly moved. I won't say too much about how everything works out with them but what I will say is that I LOVE Jake. No matter what he was going through, he never stopped loving and never stopped trying to play match maker between Nick and Sam. He always cared about everyone else first all the while wiggling those famous eyebrows! Just loved Jake and Cara together!
Now for Nick and Sam!! Loved them from the beginning. Loved the teasing that Nick always did to Samantha no matter how much she pushed him away. I love when characters have that love hate relationship in the beginning that builds up all that angst. Nick has always been in love with Samantha but because of how much her family means to him he never pursued a relationship with her in fear of losing them all if things didn't work out. Nick ends up having to leave Riverdale without anyone knowing why. 7 years later he's back and wants nothing more then to be with Sam.
One night 7 years ago, Sam pursued Nick and met him in his hotel room. Nick at first told her she shouldn't be there but he can't fight the chemistry they both have for each other. Then just like everyone else, Sam has no idea why Nick left Riverdale without so much as a goodbye...now he's back! Nick and Sam still have the same chemistry that they once shared 7 years ago but Sam does everything in her power to fight it. Sam has a secret that Nick doesn't know about and Sam refuses to let him in on it. So in return, Sam pushes Nick away at every attempt that Nick makes to get closer to her.
One night when Sam finds herself vulnerable and needing someone, she turns to Nick. Of course Nick is there for her with open arms. Sam starts coming around Nick for one thing. Nick being Nick, he gives in every time. Just thinking about the book makes me think about all the hot scenes. HaHa!! Man Nick has a hot mouth!!
"After I spoke to you I went upstairs alone."He said his voice barely audible as he leaned closer to her ear. His breath on her earlobe sent shivers down her spine."And the only thing I got off to was picturing your sweet face when I make you come."
Nick wants more from Sam then what she is willing to give....
"You spend the night with me and I'll pleasure you all night. You fall asleep in my bed and you awake in my arms, no notes on the pillow."
Little by little Sam's walls start to come down and she starts letting Nick get closer and closer. Nick can tell that she still is holding back a piece of her heart and does everything he can do get her to give him that final piece......
"We can be good together. I know we can, but you need to be willing to go all in, because I wont have you if i can't have all of you."
Does Sam give him the final piece? I can't tell...you have to find out by reading the book!!! It seriously is one of my favorite series. So listen to me when I say that these books are a MUST READ!! I'm so sad that now I have to wait to read the final installment of the Riverdale Series. I CAN NOT WAIT FOR IT TO COME OUT! I give this book two 5 stars!! Janine...another great book under your belt! I can't wait to read more about Nick and Sam and looking forward to Luke's story!
**May contain spoilers if you have not read book one, Pieces. The review of that book is also available.** This is book two of a three part story. Each book is about a member of the Lanza family. While each book does not necessarily have a cliffhanger for the main characters of each book the family’s journey continues and bleeds into the book. Samantha “Sam” Lanza has been on love with Nick Foti since she barely a teenager. Nick is her brother’s best friend and has practically been part of the family for as long as she can remember. Nick knew Sam was special and noticed his feelings about her had evolved into something more than his best firned’s little sister. When Sam was finally 18 and they both thought they might be able to act on their feelings an unexpected event occurs in Nick’s life and takes him away from Riverside for 6 years. Now he is back and ready to claim Sam as his own, if she will let him. Sam is a very strong willed woman. At times she frustrated me with her determination not to let Nick back into her heart. She was cruel to him and yet Nick kept coming back for more and even more determined to make it right between them. As one of her brothers, Jake continues to battle cancer they both lean on each other more and more and as life becomes even rougher Sam finds comfort in Nick’s arm. As much as I loved Sam and Nick’s story, the secondary characters and the story surrounding the entire family I found even more fascinating. I cannot say enough how much I loved this book or how much I absolutely love this series. Each character in each book captivated me. Cara and her undying love and commitment to Jake, Jake’s charismatic and witty antics, Luke’s commitment to be the reliable and responsible not for his young daughter, but everyone he loves, Sam’s tough on the outside, but soft on the inside demeanor, and of course Nick’s never wavering commitment to find a way back into Sam’s heart. This book has it all…. Hot sexy love, alpha head strong male, a kooky family and a whole lot of heart. As I did with the first book I laughed, I cried (a lot more than the first book though), blushed and had to fan myself due to the heat index of this book.
Broken Pieces is the second book in Janine Bosco's The Riverdale Series. Since I enjoyed the first book I knew I would also enjoy the second one. The one thing that I liked most was this gorgeous cover. I mean, who wouldn't enjoy a cover featuring a smoking hot man with tattoos? I wanted to lick the cover a few times...but some how I refrained. The other thing I liked about this story was the hero, Nick. He is gorgeous, fun, patient up to a point, caring, and noble which I think may be his best feature. Samantha I wanted to smack a few times because I felt she was just a tad too bitchy. I understand she felt betrayed by Nick when he left (which of course he did to help his friends and Samantha) but I thought she should of giving him more of a second chance instead of just giving him the cold shoulder and trying to ignore him. The one thing that really bothered me about this book was that the previous hero from Pieces lost his life in this book. I almost didn't finish it because I was utterly devastated at that point. But I honestly felt like I had to give Miss Bosco a lot of credit too because she added something to this romance that you don't see too often in other romances: Tragedy. The kind of tragedy that has to deal with real life situations, such as cancer and other diseases that won't be held back. It also let us readers know that tragedy can be found in both real life and in books and we shouldn't hide from it because tragedy is nothing more then a trial we have to go through in life. Broken Pieces flowed together nicely with a little bit of humor, some sad moments that left me in tears, and some happy ones that left me with a smile. This story has everything, you could want. It's an emotional roller-coaster ride with plenty of steamy scenes and some tear inducing ones that will take your breath away. I give Broken Pieces a FULL FIVE OUT OF FIVE STARS! This Series just gets better and better and I am already hoping for a third.
“He wanted to kiss her senseless and tell her he loved her. He wanted to say all the things he had planned on and yet all he could do now was push her away.”
5 emotional stars!!! Wow this book was so heartbreakingly beautiful!!! The characters really pull at your heartstrings!! Great second book in the series!!
What a great second book in the series!!! OMG you totally fall for Nick and everything he’s going through with his family and life in general. You fall in love with Samantha and Nick and pull for them every step of the way!! I really love this series!!! It really sucks you in as you read!!!
What do you do when a book reduces you to tears about 1/4 of the way into it and then as you continue reading, you continue crying? Having had family members that died from Cancer, this book is hitting home for me and watching Jake battling one heartbeat at a time is killing me. It is very well written, I still have hope until and if he actually dies. However, this is a hard book to read. Very well written though. Everyone grieves in their own way, maybe now that Nick has been entrusted to make sure Sam is okay, they will find a way towards each other. Will Sam ever give Nick a chance, tell him why she is so angry with him? Sam loves him, and reacts to him, no matter how much hurt she has inside of her. Just when you think Sam is going to give Nick a chance, she waffles again. Come on woman! How does everyone deal with Jake's death? Does his fiancee get through it? Will she let the family be there for her, since her own family is gone? Read on and cry, rage, laugh, and feel good about things as you see how things unfold. I cannot wait to read part three in this series!
RECEIVED THIS BOOK AS A GIFT FOR A FAIR/HONEST REVIEW and REVIEWER FOR Bloggin' With M.Brennan.
The work made by Janine is her second book of the series is excellent. In this book you will suffer in a part that will make you cry your eyes out specially at the beginning. But as the story continues you will get hooked with Samantha and Nick story. They always knew each other. Nick saw Samantha as his best friend little sister and Samantha saw Nick as her first love. But as time passes by Nick starts to fall in love for her. Fate pulls them apart but the future is set for them to stay together. Join this them in their path of love.
When you read the book the author will transport you to a world full of love and strength. I just love how Nick will fight for the love. The other thing i love of this book and at the same time makes me laugh is how both of them are stubborn and sometimes they don't see that they are just made for each other. This book explains so many things the first one doesn't and make you fall even more in love with the Lanza's clan.
I thought this book would just give me Nick and Sam’s story. I was so wrong! The closure that I desperately needed from book one definitely in this book and all I can say was that I WASN’T READY. I balled my eyes out. I knew what was happening, yet I still had hope but my heart was ripped into two. My heart broke right along with Cara. So, if you’ve read book one and needed closure like me this book must be read. As far as Sam and Nick goes, all I can say is Sam….Sam….Sam… I wanted her to stop playing hard to get so bad; she was so hot one minute and cold the next. I’m glad we a look at Nick’s past and the reasons why he left. I’m excited to see what’s next for this family. Luke and Cara need to find their happily ever after and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.
OK, so it took me a few days to start this book as I knew Jake's story wasn't finished and boy was I right, I liked Nick and Sam in the first book thought their story would be a good one and I really liked it and am so glad that it worked out for them, but I was totally not prepared for Jake's death, I had tears in my eyes, had to stop reading and go back an hour later, I really thought I read it wrong and he wasn't gone but he was. Such a good story, really pulled on my heart! Luke's story is going to be great I can just tell.
This book pulls at your heart strings. I have to say that I love this book though. It's an amazing read. Janine Infante Bosco really knows how to tell a good story. I look forward to reading the next book in this series. I highly recommend this book. I also recommend that you read the first book before this one.
Well this book was another emotional ride. Will Nick and Sam finally figure out that they need one another and always have. When Jake dies Cara spins out of control and starts doing pills and drinking way to much. Does Luke take his promise to Jake to an excess and become obsessed with Cara. Will is books end with so happy thoughts or not?
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Heartbreaker! First of all, do not read these books unless you can get over editing mistakes because this series is FILLED with them. I can get past them for a great story. Book one had me hooked to see Jake through his cancer treatments. When that did not go as planned I simply could not finish. I normally would keep going to see what happens next but I simply don't care.
Even though I read the first book first, then the journal second, I still cried while reading this book. So much love and many misunderstandings make this a great book.
I was right. The first half of this book destroyed me! *** Warning - Do NOT read the first half of this book in public.....it will leave you a blubbering mess!! *** I had to use many tissues with the first half of this book. I wasn't a big fan of Sam. I get that she was hurt in the past and felt betrayed by Nick but come on! this girl could hold a grudge.
Now on to the final book. I have feeling this one is going to be just a tough to read.
Broken Pieces is the second installment in the Riverdale Series by author Janine Infante Bosco.
Book one (Pieces) follows the characters of Jake and Cara, and by the end of that book they had some major life-changing issues to deal with.
This time around, we are getting to see more of Nick and Sam. Nick has just returned to Riverdale after living in Seattle for the past six years. In book one, we saw Sam's super icy attitude toward Nick, and were given the reason behind it. Can ya blame the girl? With her best friend! What was he thinking?!
Meanwhile, the family is rallying around Jake who's chemo therapy did not work, and needs a bone marrow transplant. Each sibling, Nick as well, has taken tests to see if they are a match for the procedure. Luke is the match, and while he will be donating his blood for his very ill brother, Nick and Sam take his daughter, Ava, to a dance competition in Atlantic City.
~*~Spoilers Ahead~*~
Nick, Sam, and Ava are enjoying their time in Atlantic City, when they get the call that no one ever wants to receive. Jake is failing, and they have to cut their trip short to return home immediately.
This is about the point that I lost it. I mean, ugly-crying-while-the-dogs-watch lose it. I hated the author for making me feel like my book heart was ripped from my chest and trampled on by a heard of elephants.
I had to put the book down for a hot minute at this point. I needed to give my heart a rest before I could continue. The strangest thing happened though. I kept thinking about the book and its characters. I felt like I was abandoning them in their time of need, so it wasn't very long before I picked it back up, and continued reading.
One by one, they leave the hospital. Luke has rip Cara from his lifeless brother's body and physically carry her out. Luke made a promise to his brother to watch out for Cara, and we see just how serious he takes this promise a little later.
Nick and Sam find a way to ease their own aching hearts, in the arms of each other. They share a steamy night together, but Sam leaves Nick alone in her bed the next morning, with just a quick "sorry I don't have coffee" note.
These two dance around their true feelings throughout the book. Every time Sam needs a "lil' cheering up", she runs into Nicks arms. He's always there, ready and willing. It's obvious how much they care for each other, but remember. Nick is still clueless to what Sam saw in Seattle. ;)
I don't want to ruin the whole book for you. My spoilers thus far have been from the first third of the book. I encourage you to read it for yourself. My short synopsis of this book goes as follows...First it gets steamy, then it gets sad, then steamy again, then really sad, then confusing. Haha!
I hope you enjoy Broken Pieces as much as I did. I see it as a sign of a good read, if the author can break your heart into a million pieces, and yet you keep reading.
This is part two of The Riverdale Series, I really loved first book Pieces and could not wait to see what happened with these amazing characters.
Broken Pieces concentrates on the relationship between Nick Foti and Samantha Lanza. Sam and Nick had a moment years ago and then Nick left without explanation. Sam was devastated but went on with her life.
Now Nick is back and he has realized he wants to pick up where they left off. But Sam has other ideas, at first. Nick is a true alpha male, with a kind heart. Sam keeps pushing him away and for awhile I was like what the heck is her problem! Then we find out a secret she's held that lets us understand why she feels like she can't give Nick a chance. Events unfold in the Lanza clan and Samantha realizes she needs Nick more than ever but will she allow him in long enough for her to realize that they are meant to be?
The story flows really well, I believe it was very true to the characters established in book one. Once again I felt like I was part of the group. I laughed at some parts, and cried at others. Sam made me mad a few times but then the author made me understand her broken heart.
There is a nice HEA and a few surprises as well as a very well written lead in to the conclusion Fitting the Pieces.
Highly recommend the series, it a really AMAZING read.
