Fitting the Pieces

Rate this book
You’ve laughed with them. You’ve cried with them. Now it’s time to say goodbye to the Lanza Family, in the final installment of The Riverdale Series.

Luke Lanza is a man who has always done the responsible thing. He has faced a lot of challenging obstacles in his life; from raising his daughter on his own, to building a successful business, even being the only viable donor that could save his brother’s life. Knowing this about his brother and knowing that he was going to die, Jake asked him to look after the love of his life. Now Luke is torn between the promise he made to his brother and the pull of something he’s never known before.

“Promise me, I need to hear you say it, Luke.”
Luke swallowed. “I promise I’ll take care of Cara, you don’t have to worry about her.” A tear slipped down his cheek as he finished his vow to his little brother.
Jake smiled slightly and closed his eyes. “I could always count on you.”

Cara Sloane is struggling with the loss of her first love and the power of addiction. Jake had been her rock for so long, with him gone she realizes how broken she is. She doesn’t want to feel anything, least of all the emptiness in her heart.

“I know you’re at peace and I should be thankful for that, but I can’t be. I never realized what a selfish person I was. You were suffering and all I could do was pray for you not to leave me.”

A tragic accident leaves Luke and his family pleading with Cara to change the course of her life. Can Cara face her demons and learn there is life after Jake? Can she learn that she can hold onto to the beautiful memories they made together and still live her life?

“I don’t want to fix her because she’s broken.” He said with his own voice sounding a bit broken. “I want to help her because losing her too isn’t an option.”
Individually they try to heal, together they wonder if they can fit the pieces of their broken lives.

*** I Love Story Time was honored to receive an ARC copy in exchange for an honest Review ***

5++ STARS TO THIS SERIES!!!!

My heart is broken. It's literally broken. I don't even know how to explain the feelings and emotions that this series has done to me. I never stopped crying. Honestly, I don't mean just a few tears here and there...I mean the full ugly cry. These tears were happy and sad tears, but I wouldn't change a thing. Janine Infante-Bosco just went up on my FAVORITE AUTHOR'S LIST with these stories.

Now.... as for Fitting the Pieces.... Janine you did it again!!! I LOVED IT! Finally, I was able to read about Luke! Since the beginning, I wanted Luke to get his happily ever after. He deserved one! He is hot as hell, and a hard working single father who needs the love of a women, but doesn't think he does. Luke has always been the sibling that fixes things when it came to Jake and Sam. He took everyone's problems and carried them as his own.....

"Promise me, I need to hear you say it, Luke."

Luke swallowed. "I promise I'll take care of Cara, you don't have to worry about her."

"I could always count on you."

Luke is not only there for his siblings, but he is also there for Cara when she needs him the most. Cara is going through a rough patch. When she realizes she has fallen too far, and is now an addict, she turns to Luke to help her fix her life and move on......

"I don't want to fix her because she's broken."He said with his own voice sounding a bit broken
. "I want to help her because loosing her too isn't an option."

Through Cara's journey of getting better and starting her new beginning, Luke and Cara become close and build a friendship stronger then what they already had. Together, they get through the twist and turns that come their way, and Luke becomes someone that Cara finds herself leaning on more and more.

I still love Sam and Nick. I loved that they were once again in this book. They are seriously the cutest couple. Nick is too funny. He is constantly trying to agree with whatever Sam wants or says. He has always tried to get to know what she wants, or needs, without being told. What better way to figure out how to read a women's mind then to read the one and only "50 Shades of Grey".....

"So you and I can have a night out. Before you say no, hear me out. I have been up to my ears in flower arrangements, favors, invitations, and whatever the fuck else consists of a wedding. I need some man time. Between the wedding, the house and the romance novels I'm not even sure I'm still allowed to piss in the men's room."

"You read the damn book."

HaHa...I loved all the times that Luke and Nick talked about the book! It was priceless. I also loved the little text that Sam and Nick would send when trying to work on a mission together...

Nick: I'm in! Operation Your Brother Is A Jerk in full effect!

Sam: Cara just got here. Good Luck, eye on the prize.

Nick:Remind me of the prize again.

Sam: Me....naked.

Nick:Visuals would help. Just saying a picture would probably keep me focused.

They go back and forth and it's so cute. Of course, I still love Joe and Deb as well. Their relationship is too much, in a good way! One of my favorite parents in a book! I did enjoy the little history about their relationship towards the end of the book as well.

One thing that I really enjoyed about the whole series is...no matter who's book it was...all the characters were involved and their POV would be narrated throughout the book. This gave you a little bit of everyone in all the books. I can seriously go on and on about this book...about the whole series! All I can say is...if you have not read it yet...you NEED to! The stories of the characters lives will forever live with you. This is not one of those series that you read and can't remember after a few months. It will be hard to forget Luke, Jake, Sam, Nick and Cara. I am so sad that it has come to an end. I loved the way everything came together, and we got to see where everyone ends up. I would definitely rate the Series as a whole more then 5 stars, 5 just doesn't do it justice! I don't think I can say it any better than Janine.....

"It is with a very humble heart that I say farewell to the Lanza family. The Riverdale Series will always hold a special place in my heart.

This review will contain spoilers if you have not read the other two books. So, if you haven’t read those I highly recommend you go out and buy them.
This is the final installment in the Riverdale series. The series comes full circle with Cara and Luke’s story. Since Jake’s death Cara has been spiraling out of control. Whatever can take away her pain and make her numb she will do. Luke promised his brother on his death bed that he would always watch over and take care of Cara. What started out as an obligation morphs into feelings Luke did not expect. . Luke struggles with his developing feeling for his brother’s fiancé while Cara is just trying to figure out how to make it through the day. Cara finds solace in pain pills which takes her on a very destructive path, but once out of the pill educed haze she finds a friendship with Luke she never saw coming. However, as their friendship grows stronger so does Luke’s feelings and the internal conflict he faces is heart breaking.
“I know I can’t have her. She could never be mine for so many reasons…… I know I am playing with fire”- Luke
I loved this series and Luke and Cara’s story by far was the best, it put all the pieces together. There two things you must have on hand when reading this book- tissues and a fan. You will laugh, cry and blush ten different colors of red. Cara and Luke’s sexual chemistry is off the charts. The journey these two embark on together is real and raw and touches on some many different emotions. As with the other books the entire family is back, Deb, Joe, Nick and Sam. You see how the entire family copes and finds a way to move on without forgetting Jake or how much they loved him. They each find their happy ever after in the crazy Lanza way.
“I wonder if you sent Luke to me, so that I would be the one to make him smile….. I never thought Luke could be my second chance” Cara

THERE IS NOT ENOUGH STARS TO BE GIVEN TO THIS SERIES. Janine, I give you a standing ovation. Sure my track record shows I give 5 stars ALOT, there's a reason I do, as long as the book gives me what I want, isn't cheesy, slow, or loses my interest = I'm satisfied = happy but when I extend stars it's definitely a winner in MY opinion and may I say this series is my ALL TIME FAVORITE and I don't think it can be topped. I don't want to say goodbye to the Lanza's. I haven't felt like this since I read CARNAGE by LESLEY JONES although completely opposite Georgia & Sean's story will ALWAYS STAY WITH ME it's my other favorite!! I've never forgotten them and their story and what caused my heart to be ripped out I literally couldn't get over it for days. This series I will NEVER NEVER forget and honestly probably won't ever read again because I feel I couldn't take a round two. Isn't it something when fictional characters become real? Oh yes there's plenty of Lanza's in this world but I'm talking about this Lanza family. I'm not sure how I feel about the way this series ended, I'm torn but then again what I really wanted wasn't possible. The Lanza's will make you laugh & cry. You will love each & everyone of them oh and you will do a whole lot of winking when it's over. JAKE, GOD I LOVE YOU! Joe made me laugh repeatedly, Nick was some hot stuff, Sam a sweetheart, Ava a cutie, Cara...amazing, Luke adorable and glue of the family for the most part. AGAIN THANK YOU JANINE, I'M A MAJOR FAN AND CAN'T WAIT TO READ MORE FROM YOU.

When is a promise no longer a promise? When love comes into play and you find yourself in love with the person you swore to take care of to your dying brother! This is the third and final book in the Riverdale series. This is a book that will keep you on the edge of your seat while at the same time it will make you laugh and cry. All the family is there from the first and second book, still grieving and trying to move on without Jake.

Luke promised his brother to take care of his fiancée Cara when he was taken by cancer from his family. He has watched over her as much as she will allow him but suddenly Luke finds himself watching her for other reasons. Cara is becoming more than just a promise that he made to his brother! Luke wants her for himself but feels like he is betraying Jake’s memory. Can Luke convince Cara to let go of the past and look ahead to the future? Maybe a future with him!

Cara had loved and depended on Jake since the day they had first met. He was her BFF and first true love. When Jake was taken from her before Cara went off the deep end and became an addict. The drugs helped her to blank out the loss of Jake but she was slowly losing Cara. An accident caused by drugs was a wakeup call for her and she finally gave into going into rehab. When she asks Luke, Jake’s brother to help her he arranges everything and takes her to a rehab facility. Luke becomes her rock and the one she looks to for direction and when she leaves rehab Cara realizes that she has new feelings for him. Can Luke help her find a future beyond her grieving for Jake?

~~~~~~~~~~Dee's ★★★★★ Review~~~~~~~~~~
This third book in the series gives us the beautiful story of Luke and Cara. As their attraction to each other grew and their relationship unfolded, each had to work through mental questions and insecurities. Consequences of poor choices had to be experienced. There were a couple of surprising revelations. This series is a gem. It is well written with deep emotions and realistic characters. It feels like someone's true story disguised as fiction. I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Five Stars.
~~~~~~~~~~Amanda's ★★★★★ Review~~~~~~~~~~

After reading this series and having my emotions up in a twist, I have to say how much I truly enjoyed each of these books. Jake's Journal is the icing on the cake. The letters he wrote not only to himself, but to the members of his family and the hospital are so emotion and breathtaking. The anger, hurt, love, and physical pain that he has been through is numbing to say the least. You go through so many emotions from the entire series that it just numbs you. I have yet to read a series until now that has touched me so much. I think because of so much emotion throughout each of these works, it was a great idea to make it a 3 book series with Jake's Journal as a companion. You definitely need to read the other 3 books in order and read this last for the full affect.

~~~~~~~~~~Patricia's ★★★★★ Review~~~~~~~~~~
Well this book is more or less a true life story even though it is fiction this happens to people all the time. It talks about Cara being in a terrible depression over losing Jake and all the drinking and drugs that she gets involved with until one day she ends up in a car accident. Which cause her to have to go to a rehabilitation center. While she is there she comes to some realizations about her life and so does Luke. Meanwhile Sam and Nick are preparing for a wedding and a baby. Jake is still making his presence know in great positive ways. I loved how well the story was written to bring you into the characters. It is like you are living within the book. Will Cara come to make amends with all that has brought her to this time n her life? Will Luke finally find the love that he has been looking for? I love the way the book ends with giving you a look into the future of the whole entire family.
“‘I love you so f@cking much that it is driving me insane. I have never felt this way about anyone in my life. I made damn sure I never would either, but there you were with those damn eyes and I swear to God I thought I saw forever in them. I thought I saw everything I told myself I never wanted in those eyes of yours.’”
5 huge emotional stars! I am so in love with this series!!! I can’t get over how amazing each book gets as I go. I love Luke and Cara!!
Luke Lanza is a man who has always done the responsible thing. He has faced a lot of challenging obstacles in his life; from raising his daughter on his own, to building a successful business, even being the only viable donor that could save his brother’s life. Knowing this about his brother and knowing that he was going to die, Jake asked him to look after the love of his life. Now Luke is torn between the promise he made to his brother and the pull of something he’s never known before.
A tragic accident leaves Luke and his family pleading with Cara to change the course of her life. Can Cara face her demons and learn there is life after Jake? Can she learn that she can hold onto to the beautiful memories they made together and still live her life?
“I don’t want to fix her because she’s broken.” He said with his own voice sounding a bit broken. “I want to help her because losing her too isn’t an option.”
Individually they try to heal, together they wonder if they can fit the pieces of their broken lives.
This is a continuation of Luke and Cara’s story. It’s so heartbreaking and beautiful!!! Their love story is insane and complicated but so great!!! I really am selfish when I say I don’t want this series to end!! I love each and every character that comes out of this series!
No, there are no words. Absolutely nothing more I can say if you have been following my previous reviews to this series.
Only...this was beautiful. Not a "aww, how adorable" beautiful, but "holy shit, why are there no more pages" beautiful.
Thank you, Janine Bosco, for keeping it real because this is truly amazing and has earned a very, very special place in my heart.
5 out of 5 stars!
wow ok... so i have read the first two books in this series, and they had me all torn up, but book three... well that had me crying at 5%
This book, has been so well written,its almost like you are there as a character, feeling their pain, being part of their lives.
You must read the first two books to know what is going on with this one... so if you want a series that is going to make you cry... then this is the one. I don't like giving spoilers, cause that just ruins the book...but its a MUST read.
Janine Infante Bosco, i am so a fan, and look forward to your next book..
I had a little trouble getting into this book in the very beginning. But I have to say I am very happy I stuck it out. The author definitely makes you become attached to the characters in this book. I couldn't help falling in love with Luke and Ava, and then add Cara into that mix and it's a fantastic roller coaster of feelings! This was the first of her books that I have read but I can promise it will not be the last!
The author have me a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Loved this series.
The series was both happy and sad (but with a HEA) that was hard to resist. Parts were tough to read.
I was drawn in to the family dynamics and story in the first book.... started to cry half way through the second book in the series (but I loved it). The third was my favorite....so glad see Cara find happiness in the end.
YOU SHOULD READ IT !
In this third book of the Riverdale Series, We see things with Cara take a very sharp turn. Of course, she is still missing Jake, but she is not giving Luke a chance to be the help that he promised his brother he would be. What happens when Cara states to Luke that she needs help? Where is Cara taken to Pennsylvania? What does she go through there? We see a lot of journal writing from Cara in this book. We see how her life has been truly affected by things. Read and see what happens with and to and for Cara when she goes back home. Spending time with Ava and Luke on Christmas day, only to fly to Mexico that afternoon, after opening presents for Sam and Nick's wedding the following day. What happens after that when Deb tells Cara about how her life started with Joe? How did Deb meet Joe? What happened in their lives that brought them together? Read and be amazed.
Beautiful Ending to Beautiful Series
Ah Jake Jake Jake. Even in death he helps brighten everyone's life. Poor Cara went through so much but in the end she found her dream husband. There is so much emotion in the novel that you feel as if you were there with each character, sharing their happy moments, the sad moments and even their dark days. The cast of characters are so loving. It makes you wish you could climb into the story and live with them, be a part of their fairytale. I'm so happy for Cara and Luke. This novel shows the reader that sometimes your first love won't be your last. That that person was just leading the way to your soul mate in life. This final installment made you smile unlike in book two where it ripped your heart out. Don't get me wrong I love the guy wrenching ugly cry novels but am always happy to see a happy ending somewhere along the line after having your heart ripped out.
I stumbled across this series when Goodreads made the recommendation to read Pieces by Janine Infante Bosco and I do not regret it. This series was phenomenal and is probably one of the best series that I have read in a while. I loved every book in this series. Even though each book’s main focus are on different characters, the books are much intertwined. These books are not standalone and need to be read in order.
This series follows the lives of the Lanza siblings (Jake, Samantha and Luke) and their friends, Nick Foti and Cara Sloane. I have never laughed and cried so hard during a series before. These books are filled with love, friendship and loss. By the end of the series, you feel that you are truly a part of these characters lives.
I highly recommend this series. You won’t be disappointed.
Such a beautifully written story. This one will pull at your heartstrings and not let go. We are taken an emotional roller coaster ride. What do you do when you fall in love with the one person you swore to take care of for your dying brother? How can she move on and live her life again? I just couldn't put this book down. I was such a mess when I read this and was hoping all would turn out in the end. you will not be disappointed with this book, but you must read the two before it to know the full story.
Fitting the Pieces – Book 3 in the Riverdale Series
by Janine Infante Bosco
This is the third and final book in this series, the series should be read in order. If you are a fan of love stories this is the series for you. You will laugh, you will cry and get a bit hot and bothered by the Lanza brother’s and their friend Nick Foti. The couples in this series go through some really tough emotional times. In the end they support each other and help to heal each other. From the first book Pieces, to the second Broken Pieces and now the third book Fitting the Pieces I wanted to be a part of this group of people. The author tells a real story with real subjects and real emotions.
Luke Lanza has always been the responsible guy, the one to always know when to do the right thing. He took on being a single dad without complaint. Started his own repair shop and has grown it into a flourishing business. He has always had the help and support of his family. Tragedy strikes the Lanza clan when they lose one of their own. Jake Lanza was Luke’s little brother, he was supposed to save him but somehow he failed him. So when Jake pleads with Luke on his deathbed to look after his fiance Cara, Luke promises he will without hesitation.
“Promise me, I need to hear you say it, Luke.”
Luke swallowed. “I promise I’ll take care of Cara, you don’t have to worry about her.” A tear slipped down his cheek as he finished his vow to his little brother.
Jake smiled slightly and closed his eyes. “I could always count on you.”
But when Luke starts to find himself falling in love with the beautiful Cara he doesn't know what to do with his feelings. Betraying his brother’s memory by lusting after his girl is not an option for the steadfast Luke. Can he deny his growing feelings and make the sacrifice to live without her? When he discovers Cara’s life spiraling out of control his need to protect her kicks in and he helps her through the most difficult time in her life.
“I don’t want to fix her because she’s broken.” He said with his own voice sounding a bit broken. “I want to help her because losing her too isn’t an option.”
When Cara Slone finally admitted that she was in love with her best friend Jake Lanza her life couldn't have been better. Until he loses his battle with cancer and leaves her feeling alone, lost and broken. Wanting to escape the pain Cara starts using prescription drugs so she can stop feeling. She hits rock bottom when she nearly kills herself driving while high on pills. Desperate she finds herself begging the one person she didn't want to depend on for help. Jake’s brother, Luke.
“I know you’re at peace and I should be thankful for that, but I can’t be. I never realized what a selfish person I was. You were suffering and all I could do was pray for you not to leave me.”
Is there really such a thing as true love a second time around? Or has Cara had her one chance at true love and lost it?
Can you help who you fall in love with? Even if Luke can’t love her, he will save her from herself.
My Review:
When we met Cara in book one she and Jake were inseparable from age fifteen. He was her rock, her savior, her hero in all ways. Cara is lost without him to hold her up, keep her safe. She doesn't know what to do with her feelings of loss, so she does the only things she can and stops feeling. The drugs allow her to forget, to stop dreaming of Jake's voice, his touch. She can’t live without him her life is over so why bother living. Not the most mentally healthy way to deal with her grief but Cara is lost. Luke has been trying to help her guide her, keep her safe. But she resists his help at every turn. Until a tragic accident makes Cara realize she is hurting herself and the only family she has ever known, the Lanza’s. In an effort to mend her broken life she asks Luke for help and checks into rehab.
In rehab Cara learns about her daddy’s issues and tries to deal with them as best she can. She also tries to deal with her tremendous grief over not having a life with Jake. While she is in rehab she begins to remember a particular incident involving Luke while she was high on drugs and suddenly changes how she looks at Luke. He has been nothing but committed and helpful in her recovery they begin to start a comfortable friendship they never had before. But she notices different things about Luke that in all the years she has known him never stood out to her before.
“You’re hot.” She blurted freely and then closed her eyes mentally kicking herself.
Cara and Luke’s building friendship to something much more progressed slowly as it should. Luke wanted her but he was giving her the time to figure out what she really wanted. Cara was conflicted feeling that Jake’s family would think badly of her. One brother dies and she picks up the pieces with the one left behind. Luke is the ultimate sexy, hot, alpha male, protective guy that we all want to have fall in love with us and take care of us. To top it all off he is a dedicated father to his daughter Ava, the interactions between father and daughter really tug at your heart.
“I know I promised to be patient.” He said gruffly. “I can’t wait any longer Cara. I physically can’t wait anymore.” He leaned into her and with the sexiest voice she had ever heard he all but purred his plea into her ear. “I need to be buried deep inside of you…”
This series was about family and the love and support that we all need and thrive on. These characters held each other up when they needed it. They were there to give each other the honest truth that sometimes we don’t want to hear. Nick and Sam are back to have their baby and get married. Nick steps up as more of a brother since Jake passing. Deb and Joe are highlighted more in dealing with their son’s death and their other son’s growing feelings for his brother’s girl and feeling like he failed his brother and family. The whole family including young Ava has a hand in bringing Cara and Luke together.
“I was just telling Cara a bit of our story.” Deb said before standing up and walking over to her husband.
“Pretty good story, no?” Joe asked Cara, throwing a wink in for good measure.
“One of the best ever written.” Cara said sincerely.
“Makes you want to go write your own, no?” Joe smiled at her before looking at his wife.
This is the final book in this series and though not as emotional (sad) as the first two books it still moved me at different times during the book. Cara is trying to move forward with her life after Jake and stand on her own for the first time. Sam & Nick's story is also wrapped up nicely at the end of the book.
Overall this was a good series....more on the sad side but still very enjoyable.
Marie's Tempting Reads ARC Review:
Fitting The Pieces is the AMAZINGLY emotional third and final installment in Janine Bosco's The Riverdale Series. This book left me an emotional wreck. I both loved the drama and hated it. I loved it because it showed how people react when a death occurs and shows how sometimes, love and patience is all it takes to heal another person after a loss of someone they loved. I hated it because in parts of this story, it left me completely sad and hurt...just utterly heartbroken for both Cara and Luke.
Fitting The Pieces has got to be one the most heart-wrenching books I have read this year. It was so well developed and thought out and the characters true and had so much depth, while the story was addicting and fascinating and just felt...REAL while the romance was rich, the sex HOT and all-consuming. Even though I cried through most of this book, I also felt complete contentment and just amazed at the sincerity and heartfelt moments that Janine Bosco put into her story. It touched me to the bottom of my soul and I was completely satisfied with the final book in this series. Luke is patient, caring and sexy. He never gave up on Cara. He just kept pushing her and taking care of her until the very end. Cara was devastated by the loss of her fiance and Luke's brother Jake. I loved reading her diary to Jake even though sometimes it tore me up. I can understand the loss of the man she loved and understood that the pain sometimes became too much. I am glad though that she eventually let Luke help her. Yea, she lashed out but Luke wouldn't give up and I just felt this was the most heartbreaking and heartfelt story I have read in a long time.
I give Fitting The Pieces by Janine Bosco an AMAZING FIVE OUT OF FIVE STARS! Its THAT good! I was happy with how the author did the last book and wouldn't want anything in this third and final book to change. If you like a good emotional romance with real depth and character, then The Riverdale Series may be just the books you need.
So many tears shed reading this final book in the series. I am totally in love with the Lanza family. Deb and Joe are just adorable, Jake was truly a saint and Luke is just the hottest most perfect male ever written. Then there's Nick, Sam, Ava (I just loved this kid) and of course, amazing Cara. I loved them through all their perfect imperfections! I hate that this series is over. From 50% in I was crying sad/happy tears like a fool. It got me that bad. I could easily read this series over and over.
Merged review:
Incredible story. I can't rate this series highly enough! The incredible bonds of friendship and family are so beautifully portrayed throughout this series and seeing Jakes dying wish come through in this book and the honesty and integrity of Luke and Cara is just mind blowing. I will reading this series again one day as it's just so very beautiful.
