I'm very excited for this series. The first story is absolutely adorable!

Olivia is a Southern girl who is trying to get her break in Hollywood. When she lands the role as co-host of a popular home improvement show, she is torn between two guys--the one who is best for her career, not to mention drop-dead handsome (William) and the blue collared gorgeous guy who does the real work (Pete).

I loved the way that Olivia met Pete--soooo funny! Of course, William really knew how to play the romance game. For me, the decision was obvious, yet I really enjoyed the journey that Olivia went through to grow into her true self. She's getting close to 30, yet she still has valuable lessons to learn and has to do some deep soul searching.

Content: no language; no violence, although the scenes describing the power tools had me laughing out loud; kissing, a scene with a scantily clad woman--implications of an intimate situation, but no details given. Clean.

Meet Olivia Pembroke an aspiring actress about to crawl home jobless and penniless. But she get a shot a screen shoot for Home Matters as a co host with the very eligible William Blake. Will she be a success? Olivia is star struck with William and agree to date him. Olivia also works with Pete and they seem to drive each other crazy. But is that because they don't like each other or they like each other? Olivia finds out that reality tv is not reality at all. She is a glorified puppet. Can Olivia make a difference? Olivia has decisions to make and is shocked to discover people are not as they seem. IS Olivia a little naive? Yes, but she learns some valuable lesson. So, who does Olivia end up with? You will have to read this delightful story to find out. I so deliriously happy with the ending. Absolutely a perfect read! I would recommend this to anyone who loves romance. This was my first read by Julie N. Ford and will not be my last!

Just FYI- this does not have any swearing or sex

If you like the TV show 'Love it, or List it" then you'll enjoy this book. It's like a behind the scenes of what goes on behind a reality TV show. I liked it.

Olivia has finally gotten her big break by landing the lead role on a home improvement show. She has reached career success and has finally achieved what she always wanted, fame. But, now that she has it it's not all she thought it would be and she finds herself reevaluating what she really wants out of life. Olivia has a couple different love interests. The Hollywood hotshot William and the humble carpenter Peter.

Overall, this was an entertaining story and a great start to this fun series.

Very cute read. There were times where I thought that the descriptions were a little wordy. Especially at the beginning.

What bugged me was

But she did grow a lot and learn about herself.

Moral Note: Clean language, clean romance, there is one scene where a woman is caught in a hotel room of a man, there are implications there, not graphic but you know.

What a truly touching and inspirational story of figuring out what matters the most in this life! I was easily swept away into this quietly unassuming yet profoundly enlightening journey of two very different people who just happen to be looking for the same thing. This is a story that will have you laughing, crying, and begging for more. I loved every minute of it!

Olivia is a very bright and talented woman who is desperate to become part of the high profile world of glamor and glitz. She has spent her entire life working toward the goal of being on a huge network show like Home Matter, and she is determined to now let anything get in her way. Fate finally smiles on her and allows her some luck in landing such a job. She wastes no time in acclimating herself to the lifestyle and wants more than anything to make a good impression. However, what starts out as a dream quickly becomes mired in lies, half-truths, and more lies. While her mind is grasping for the stars, it seems that her heart is searching for something a little less elusive but much more real and fulfilling.

Watching Olivia as her dreams blossomed, thrived for a few brief seconds, and then shriveled up was heartbreaking and yet immeasurably encouraging. Pete gave her the opportunity to examine her life, see where it was headed, and then decide if this was what she really wanted. Finally letting her heart have a say in her life helped her to see that there are things worth more than your name in lights, piles of money, or looking like a perfect plastic doll. The things that mean the most in life are simple, real, and lasting.

I had so much fun reading this delightful novella! It has such a powerful message that was relayed in a tender yet insistent manner that is sure to make people sit up and take notice. Julie N. Ford has really poured her creativity and her heart into this beautiful declaration of remembering what is truly real and worth all of our time and energy.

If you’ve been following my reviews you’ll know that I’m not a fan of romance novels. But, I have to admit that I find the covers of this box set of romance novellas in the Ripple Effect Romance series simply irresistible, so of course I had to see what they have on the inside. Well, so far so good. Home Matters is, in my opinion, a great start to this series!

As with any self-respecting romance novella, Home Matters is unbelievably predictable, but it is written in such a delightfully quirky and fun way that it doesn’t matter that the outcome can be spotted a mile away. To make the story work, Olivia obviously has to fall for Mr Wrong first so she can appreciate Mr Right. No rocket science there. But what makes this quick read positively shine is that the characters are all likeable and Olivia is exactly the type character any reader would root for on her perilous journey to Mr Right.

Home Matters reads like a typical romantic comedy, and the narrative is saturated with humor which makes it an utterly charming read. All the characters stand out from each from other, and the plot moves at an easy pace. The romance may be conventional, but under Ms Ford’s skilled hand it is the type of romance that would make even the most critical cynic’s heart melt. You clearly don’t need to be a fan of mushy love stories to enjoy this!

MY TAKE
I read the book aloud to my hubby, and we LOVED it! There is so much heart to this story. And humor! I love to read to my husband because he's such an audio listener, and he doesn't hold anything back. In fact, I have to shush him in the theater.

We loved experiencing Olivia's journey with her. We sympathized with her, ached for her, laughed with her and at her sometimes. I wanted to smack her upside the head on occasion.

The chemistry between Olivia and Pete is fast--not in a good way either in the beginning. Pete totally cracked us up. In real life I'd probably kill someone like him but, you know, maybe not. His humorous snark and sometimes too-brutal honesty made his serious moments that much more profound.

For a romance to work for me, I have to fall in love too. I did, and my husband cried. This book is a total winner, and I will for sure read it again.

When I read a book, I don't need to necessarily like the main female character to enjoy the story, but it's really difficult to get past a main female character that I adamantly dislike. Unfortunately, Olivia is so selfish and superficial, the rest of the story was ruined for me. She changed mildly, but it seemed the actions of others, like a certain character's deceitfulness, made her change instead of her recognizing her shallowness on her own. Even when everything is falling down around her, her first thought is that Will has a bigger hotel suite than she does?? And what's with the obsession with calorie counting? Even a stranger in a cafe is telling Olivia that she shouldn't eat a muffin because of its calorie count. Would a man walk up to a woman and really say something like that? I honestly don't even know what Pete sees in Olivia.

WHAT A FUN BOOK!

Olivia has her work cut out for her!

She wants to be famous!

She lands a job with a popular TV show...

She also has a chance with heartthrob William...

Then there is arrogant Pete...

She can't stop thinking about him and his suggestion that she really reach for her full potential.

Somehow her job isn't all it seems to be.

"Should she continue to reach for the stars? Or does she design a new happily ever after? One that leads not to the fading lights of fame and fortune, but to a love that will burn forever."

A SWEET contemporary romance!

this book was so fun I read it in a couple of days! Julie Ford always brings such an amazing amount of life to her characters you just can't help but get sucked in and want more! As someone who has also asked the question "why is everyone so obsessed with entertaining on these HGTV shows? " it was so fun to watch the characters behind the scenes living in the HGTV life. I'm absolutely in love with Pete and wish there were books coming after this one! Huge Julie Ford fan and looks like will continue to be!

I'm a huge fan of Julie's writing, and this book ranks right up there with Countdown to Love for me. It's fun, sassy, romantic, and wonderful. The perfect curl-up-with-a-handful-of-chocolate-covered-almonds type read for me.

3.5 stars. Cute, clean, read. I am actually glad this book wasn't longer, I thought it was the perfect size. I am glad Olivia grew in this book. I didn't really like her too much in the beginning. But she learned good lessons and it had a happy ending.

Eh, not great. Novellas I think are harder than novels to write. This is an example of the drawbacks of that. There was little character development, the flow of the story was far too abbreviated leaving no time to get into the story well enough or like the characters enough. The pacing did not work and there seemed like there was a LOT left out, as though it started out as a longer piece and then scenes were randomly cut -- and we needed the reference of those moments for other moments. It throws off pretty much everything.

All of this also meant that the romantic tension was strained at best, non-existent at worst. There just wasn't enough time to get into it and there was way too much missing.

So, in other words, I just didn't care. And in a romantic story, caring is kinda key.

Olivia Pembroke fought with an inner struggle. On one hand, her mom wanted her to become famous. On the other hand, Olivia had a secret desire and talent for art and design. The problem was, her mother's dreams had somehow morphed into her dreams and she had no idea what she really wanted anymore. She played the part of the TV star diva with attitude and prestige and found it thrilling in its own way but, at the same time, she reveled in pulling out her sketch pad and bringing to life her idea of the perfect design. She had her moments when she sacrificed her integrity with "little white lies" but when it came to promiscuous sex she drew the line and I was glad to see that stardom didn't completely corrupt her morals.

Pete was the lead contractor of the reality show, "Home Matters", Olivia co-starred in. I have read about a lot of heros in romance books, and I have some favorites, but Pete is probably one of my very favorites of all time. I mean, where do you find a guy like Pete? Really! This guy lost his fiancé to Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma, a debilitating form of cancer, and started a nonprofit in her honor to help caregivers renovate their homes to accommodate the special needs of their sick loved ones. Sigh! He has such a huge heart and it's evident in, literally, everything he does. I won't go into detail because that's something you need to find out on your own. But, trust me, you will love this guy.

I have to say, I literally smiled through ninety five percent of this book. I kept catching myself with this big goofy grin. Partly due to the sparks that flew between Olivia and Pete. Here's an example.

___________________Book Quote___________________

Pete hooked the drill back to his belt and reached for another sheet of drywall. "Right," he said, like he could see right through her. "Whatever you say, Peaches."
A prickly burr worked its way up her spine. One minute he was warm and friendly, and the next, teasing her for no good reason. "Excuse me?" she chided. "It's 'Peach.' And my daddy's the only person on God's green earth allowed to call me that. So, I'd much appreciate it if you'd refrain from now on."
A wry smile lit his eyes with mischief. "All right," he conceded. "How 'bout I call you Olive instead?"
Olivia knotted her arms together and held her position. "How 'bout Olivia?"
Replacing the drywall to the stack, he sidestepped until he was facing her straight on, the reached out and lifted her glasses to rest on top of her head. "No, I think Olive is better." He hijacked her gave with his. "It matches your eyes when you're angry and not hiding behind those ridiculous contacts."
"What could I possibly have to hide?" she challenged.
Crossing his arms over a set of firm pecks, Pete looked to the ceiling in thought. "For starters," he began, "you have an overwhelming fear that you'll never be good enough for either the career you've chosen or the love of a man who deserves you."
Planting one hand firmly to either side of her, he leaned closer. "Which only exacerbates the fact that you might never have kids though there's and ache inside you yearning for a family. But how can you heed that impulse when your mother's happiness depends on living her own dreams vicariously through you?" He finished by sending her a piercing look of concern, a thread from his heart to hers. "That's a lot of pressure, taking responsibility for someone else's dreams at the expense of your own happiness."
___________________End Quote___________________

I loved their battle of wills and sharp returns and Pete's sense of humor had me cracking up. It lead into some great kissing scenes, too, which contained passion with and edge but never went too far. I loved the whole concept of the reality show which did home renovations. I was a huge Extreme Home Makeovers fan and related Pete's character to TY Pennington. In essence, this was a very enjoyable clean read. It's the first novella in the Ripple Effects Romance series and I am very much looking forward to the rest of the books that follow. It was a light-hearted romance that had a few tense moments and I loved that it shed light on the very serious subjects of debilitating diseases and caregivers. The humorous aspect reminded me of Janice Thompson's writing style and the passionate scenes bring to mind Julie Lessman's way of drawing you into a kissing scene and keeping you enraptured. Put them both together and you have one fantastic book! If you like either of these authors you will love this book. I have never read anything by Julie M. Ford before but I will be adding her to my favorites list. Highly recommended!

Home Matters, by Julie N. Ford is one of five romance novellas in 'The Ripple Effect' series. Home Matters was a short, fun read! I am always watching all the shows on HGTV, so I knew I was going to enjoy this book.

Olivia Pembroke is a Southern woman trying to make it with her acting in a big city. She gets her big break when she is called for an interview to be the co-host on a home maker show, Home Matters. While waiting in the waiting room her nerves get the best of her, and she goes to the bathroom to calm down. It is there that she first meets Pete, the hunky, down to earth contractor.

Olivia gets the job on Home Matters, and it is there that she first meets William (the host of Home Matters). William is successful, very handsome and a star (according to his audience).

There is instant attraction with Pete and Olivia, but he is blue collar, and William is a star! Olivia struggles with what she really wants in life, and what her mother wants for her. Olivia's mother is living her dream through Olivia, because she started a family and didn't get to follow her dreams of being an big star.

I enjoyed watching the relationship bloom between Pete and Olivia. They are more a like than she would like to admit. Both of them are living lives and doing what they think they should do, and not what they want to do.

I read Home Matters in about 4 hours, and loved every minute of it! I recommend this book to anyone that enjoys romance books, well developed characters, and that 'ah ha!' moment that happens when the characters discover something they were missing all along.

I'm so excited to be a part of the blog tour for this amazing set of books in the Ripple Effect Romance. Each is written by a different author and this week we are kicking things off with Julie Ford's "Home Matters".

This was a great start to this series. Have you ever watched HGTV? Have you ever seen "Love It or List It"? I could watch that show for hours, I think. This book reminded me of that show.

One of the best things about this book is how alive and real the characters seemed to me. I could easily picture them in my head. I love Olivia's determination to succeed. She wants this chance so badly. Her focus has been so concentrated on achieving this goal of making it big that when she gets it, it's hard to recognize that it may not be what she wants after all. She feels a constant struggle between being true to herself and pleasing other people.

William- so handsome, suave and so full of himself. His ego literally fills up the room and pushed everything else out. He was so easy to picture.

Pete sees the potential in Olivia. He sees who she could be if she would just believe in herself and follow what her heart is telling her. I really loved Pete. I think I loved him just because he really saw Olivia, not as a host for a show but as a person. His methods of proving things to Olivia were a bit out there, but his heart was always in the right place.

This was the perfect book to curl up with and lose myself in for a little while. It was cute, sweet and littered with chemistry. I'm really looking forward to reading the rest of the books in this series! So much fun.

This is a fun lighthearted clean romance. One that you can sit in a day and read with a smile on your face. Olivia is a aspiring actress who needs a break. A break that a stranger gives her when she sends her to a audition for Home Matters. Here she meets Pete, Pete who frustrates her to no end but also challenges her and makes her question who she is and what she wants. Is she an actress for herself or to satisfy her mom's dreams? Pete runs into Olivia in the bathroom before her audition and is taken back. She reminds him of his late fiance. Poor guy. So when they begin to banter he sees he likes her and how she challenges him as well. the chemistry between them comes off the pages but they fight it.

During her audition, she feels chemistry with her cohost William question is is she feeling something for him or is it because her mom thinks this is who she should be with. This confuses her as they go to Savannah to tape. Here she runs into many complications. Her designer and her clash, her feelings for Pete grows confusing her, she begins to question her life choices and starts dating William and realizes he isn't what everyone thinks he is. As the taping continues a change in her remodel occurs and Pete resigns. Why? He loves her and the encounters are too much, when she goes to William about betrayal abound occurs and Olivia begins to doubt herself. It isn't until she meets a stranger that her life is put into perspective.

After the show she goes home to sort out her life. does she return to the show or pursue what she wants? Will she get the wonderful kind Pete or be miserable? That is something for this sweet well written romance book to tell you.

There are six novellas by six different authors in the Ripple Effect Romance series. Home Matters is the first book and the series is off to a great start!

Olivia is broke and really needs a break to keep her acting dream alive. She auditions for the popular home improvement show, Home Matters, and it doesn't go as smoothly as she had hoped. She gets the job, though, and is torn between her handsome co-host, William, and Pete, the lead contractor. Pete's part in her audition didn't get them off to a great start and he's just as irritating as ever, yet she also finds him attractive.

As the show progresses, Olivia wants to share her designs but she's just the face while someone else actually does the designing and she's not looking for any help from Olivia. Olivia has a decision to make towards the end: Does she follow her lifelong dream or her heart?

This is a fast, light, clean, fun read! There is definitely one guy that is the better choice for Olivia and it was fun to read her journey to discover who she would ultimately be happier with. I enjoyed reading her growth from being somewhat shallow to realizing what she truly wants in life. It's a short novella but there's quite a bit packed in. I'm looking forward to reading book 2, Silver Linings!

Julie N. Ford is one of those authors who seems to have the writing formula down to a science. I can say this because this is the third book of hers that I have read and reviewed. Each time, I have given her a resounding 5-star rating, and she is completely deserving of the honor. No, she is not the next literary genius, and I doubt Hollywood will be contacting her with a massive contract deal. But that is not the beauty and charm of her books. She is an author who sees past that and writes clean romances with simple stories that are humorous and touch the heart. She can write heavier books (check out "Replacing Gentry"), but no matter what, you will not find unwelcome surprises in her books. Everything you will read by this author is a sheer and genuine delight.

This book hearkens back to the first book of hers that I read--"Countdown to Love." I love reality shows (at least some of them), and this book centers around that Hollywood mania. Julie has a unique and realistic look into the world of unreality, and she even has a few clever surprises here and there. Her theme rings true--Be true to yourself no matter what the cost. This is a light read, but it is worth your time and energy.

I was sent a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I was not financially compensated, and all opinions are 100 percent mine.

I absolutely loved Home Matters. It's the story of Olivia Pembroke, a twenty-seven year old woman from a small, southern town who is living in California, trying to get her big break in Hollywood. She's desperate for money, desperate to get noticed before she hits the big 3-0, but mostly desperate not to let her mom (and dad and pretty much her whole hometown) down by failing.

Her break comes in the form of a reality television show--Home Matters. She'll star alongside heartthrob, William Blaine as they battle to convince their shared client to keep their renovated home or buy a new one. If she could just ignore Pete, the contractor with a special talent for getting under her skin, life would be perfect. But, she soon learns that everything (and everyone) on the show is not what they seem and has to ask herself what her real dreams are after all.

Once again, Julie made me fall in love with her characters. The whole time I was rooting for Olivia--for her to find herself and to find love as well. This is such a well-written story that was so much fun to read and left me with a good, happy feeling inside when I was done.

I recommend Home Matters to anyone who loves a sweet romance and needs something to put a smile on their face today.

Olivia has a dream of becoming a famous actress. After years of working minimum-wage jobs and second rate commercials she has finally had her big break. It seems almost too good to be true that she has landed the part of co-host for a reality TV show "Home Matters" alongside TV heart throb William Blaine.

Her life suddenly changes to a whirlwind of activity working on the show and developing a relationship with William. Olivia finds herself a bit disillusioned as she realizes her role on the new show isn't quite what it's cracked up to be and while William Blaine is drop-dead gorgeous, he drinks and smokes too much and leaves something to be desired. This, combined with her confusing attraction to the lead contractor on the show, Pete.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading "Home Matters". It's a delightfully fun and light-hearted read. For a novella the main characters are surprisingly well developed and the plot is solid, though somewhat predictable.

If you need a quick read that will bring a smile to your face and warmth to your heart, "Home Matters" will not disappoint.

FYI - this is a clean read no swearing or intimate situations

Olivia's big break has finally come. She gets to be the co-host of a home renovation show. She has a handsome co-host and she can finally catch up on her financial obligations. Her life is finally going according to plan.

She discovers that fame and fortune are not all they are cracked up to be. Living the life of a star is confusing, and the male attention doesn't help her figure it all out. She needs to decide what it is that matters to her, and make it the focus of her life.

This book is a cute and fun read. It is a novella, so it doesn't take a huge time commitment to read it. It is the start of a series of books The Ripple Effect Romance Novella's. It is a great start and a promise of good, clean romance to indulge in.

The story is well written, the characters are naughty and nice. I liked Olivia, she has a head on her shoulders, one that most are overlooking. She proves that there is more to a person than outward appearance.

I don't want to say too much about her love interests. There is a triangle going on. It makes her final decision all the more sweet and made her a more lovable character.

Did I enjoy this book: I did. It was sweet, cute, and quick. I think it was less than 110 pages on my Nook. I read it in a few hours.

I liked Olivia. I thought she was sweet. My favorite scenes were those where she was either drawing or with Pete. Pete was great. Such a good guy with a good heart. I caught on to what he was doing, and I was impressed. Good for him.

My only complaint is that I thought it was too short. Yes, I know this is a novella that is part of a series. And I can’t wait to read the other 5 books in this series. BUT . . . I think Home Matters would be a fantastic full length novel. There were just some parts that were rushed, and for good reason — it’s a novella. I would like more.

However, it was a good read. It was sweet. Left me with a smile.

Would I recommend it: Sure.

Will I read it again: I doubt it.

I'll be honest...I didn't love this book. I was super excited for the Ripple Effect series, but this book just...well...fell flat for me. It had a super cute premise and a lot of potential, but just like the main character Olivia, I felt like the book was shallow. There wasn't really any depth. Now don't get me wrong, the point of the story is that Olivia is shallow so she fits the character well (and to be fair, I liked her and she grew a lot in the story), and it was well written. I just didn't understand her relationship with Pete. They antagonize each other the whole time, and then kiss and somehow fall in love, while still antagonizing each other. It just didn't seem all that believable to me because it lacked the depth. I know it's a novella so there isn't a lot of time, but I think it could have been set up different. So while I don't highly recommend it, if you have an hour to kill it is a fun easy read.

Genre: Romance, Novella

Rating: ****+ (I loved it!)

Review: I loved the organic way that this romance spilled out, and not without it's obstacles that seemed so natural to what was going. Even in the short space given her, Olivia's character arc really blossomed. Having cheated and gotten a sneak peak at SILVER LININGS by Kaylee Baldwin, I'm getting very excited to see how all these novellas intertwine. Pete is a wonderful hero and, I hate to say this, I liked getting into his struggles and watching him fall for Olivia almost against his will.

Sex - 1 (Passionate kissing, and sex scenes referred to - but absolutely nothing 'on stage.')

This was a cute premise. The main character lands a job on a home renovation show a lot like "Love It or List". The book really focuses on your transformation as she realizes that she may be pursuing the wrong things.

This is a nice clean read. I would have liked more interaction between Olivia and her love interest. The basis of their relationship seemed forced at the end, and not entirely true to each other since there were so few interactions that we saw in the book.

Overall, it's an okay start to a promising series. I am always looking for clean romances to read, and this is definitely clean.

As the author, of course I love this story. And as an HGTV enthusiest I just couldn't help but write a novella about a DIY show. But if you're a fan of romance novels starring heroines that resemble Disney princesses--you know the type; pretty but doesn't know it, kind to both friend and foe, naive to a fault, blah, blah, and blah--then you might be in for a shock. Olivia is pretty, ambitious and not about to let anything, not even love, get between her and her dreams of stardom. Well, maybe love. Enjoy =D

I am so excited for this new series!

Olivia Pembroke is about to have everything she's dreamed of - a role on the hit TV show "Home Matters", a power Hollywood romance with her co-star and lots of fame and money! When everything starts going her way, she realizes that she's never been so confused in her life!

Pete is the lead contractor on the show who is pursuing his real dreams on the side. He sees beyond her shallow facade and pushes her to discover who she really is. He challenges her to discover what her dreams really are and to go for them!

As a lover of remodeling and HGTV, I really loved this book! At times throughout the story, I was laughing out loud, feeling frustrated, and irritated along with the characters. Julie has a way of drawing me into her world in her stories. I had a hard time putting it down. It is a good thing that it is a novella, because nothing got done while I sat and read this story. It was a quick read and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good clean romance.

cute romance novella. Olivia is a wannabe actress and lands a roll on a home improvement show (similar to Love it or List it on HGTV). The cohost, William, is the realtor and she is the designer. Sure she has a background in it, but she really isn't the designer. Pete is the hunky contractor that believe in her more than she believes in herself.
