Hazel Morris is dreading the holidays this year. Not only is it her first Christmas since her beloved mother died, it's also the first since she made the biggest mistake of her life and ended her relationship with the best man she's ever known.
After navigating life and grief on her own for the last six months, Hazel is relieved to be spending a quiet Christmas in Honeywell Hollow with her aunt. Except, in keeping with a year where everything has fallen apart, her aunt has forgotten their plans and left town...
Mason Reynolds hasn't told his family that the love of his life broke up with him six months ago. He meant to, really he did, but he's been holding onto every last shred of hope that Hazel would come back to him.
So when he walks into his parents' house the week before Christmas and finds Hazel there, he thinks she's a living, breathing Christmas miracle. But she's not there for him. And she's determined not to stay.
If Mason can convince Hazel to stay, he's certain he can remind her that they're meant to be and show her he can be her shelter after so much pain. Otherwise, he knows he’ll have to let her go for good and end up more brokenhearted than before.
Can these two exes embrace an unexpected Christmas together and let the magic of the holiday season heal their battered hearts?
At Home With You This Christmas is a sweet and steamy holiday novella. Despite the heavy themes of grief, it’s also hopeful, funny, and romantic. Please be sure to read the author’s note and content warnings at the beginning of the book if grief/loss of a parent is a sensitive topic for you.
Marie Landry lives and writes in a cozy apartment in Ontario, Canada, surrounded by books and Funko Pops. An avid reader from a young age, she loves getting lost in characters’ worlds, whether they’re of her own making or someone else’s. She particularly loves stories with as much of an emphasis on self-discovery and friendship as on romance...but don’t leave out the romance!
When not doing bookish things, you can often find her taking pictures, cooking, scrolling Instagram (find her at @marielandry.author), daydreaming about frolicking through the Scottish Highlands, or listening to the same music she's loved since the '90s. She's an unapologetic nerd and fangirl, and that, along with her mental health advocacy, is often woven into her books.

No cover? No synopsis? Do I care? Nope! I'll read anything Marie writes. And the fact she wrote this so soon after her mom died and in her honour? Damn.
This was such a beautiful book! This is the first Christmas book I’ve read and I enjoyed it a lot. This was a Christmas romance book however, there was so much more to it. It was such a beautiful story shout love and grief and how grief affects us including our relationships with others. Hazel recently lost her mom and after that happened, she ended things with her boyfriend as she needed time to grieve and learn who she was outside of being a daughter and a girlfriend. Hazel and Mason reconnect during the holidays and she ends up spending Christmas with Masons family as they did not know about them splitting up. (Fake dating hehe 🤭)
I really enjoyed Hazels character. I loved getting to follow her journey through healing and allowing herself to start enjoying life again. I really loved reading about her trying to learn who she is outside of being a girlfriend to Mason or being a daughter to Ellen, her mom. She is so strong and I found myself rooting for her the whole time and just wanting her to realize how loved and wanted she is. 🤍
I also loved Mr Mason. He was so kind, loving, and supportive. Not once did he doubt that him and Hazel were meant to be together. He was so patient with her while she was working through her grief and was willing to wait for her and do whatever he could to help her. I loved seeing how he treated Hazel and how he constantly reminded her how much he loved her and how much she is wanted and loved by not only him but his family.
Def would recommend this book to add to your Holiday reads! It’s out November 15❤️
This book was simply so good. I loved every single part of it. Marie is very transparent that she wrote this book as an escape to help her deal with the death of her beloved mother and the grief and anxiety and feels. It’s very evident in this book and I just want to give both Marie and Hazel a hug 🫶🏻 Mason is the best cinnamon roll guy out there and the way he is there for Hazel (his whole family actually!) and loves her and waits for her is my favourite. This book is “hallmark with spice” and it was the perfect blend!
I received and advanced copy and these are my thoughts:
This was a beautiful story. Even though Hazel was grieving the loss of her mother, she was surrounded by so much love and understanding from the Reynolds family. I was happy to see her allow each of the Reynolds family members embrace her. I especially liked her relationship with Mason’s niece Poppy - it was very endearing.
Mason and Hazel had an interesting bond - he knew that Hazel and her mother were a package deal and he embraced it. Like mason, I felt sorry that Hazel had chosen to isolate herself in her grief. I was glad they found a way back to each other. Their relationship was both quiet and comforting, while also having sizzling chemistry.
I very much enjoyed the Christmas theme - the market, the decorations and family traditions. The Reynolds house felt like a cozy and happy place to spend Christmas.
Overall, this was an uplifting story about love and loss, and about picking up the pieces and starting over.
This was a deeply personal dual POV, second chance/fake dating holiday romance novella about a woman grieving her recently deceased mother and the way she reconnects with her ex over the holidays. Full of small town Canadian charm and great anxiety, grief and PTSD rep, reading this book felt like a big hug and if you’re looking to support local this season I highly recommend any of Marie’s books!
It was a warmhearted, second-chance romance that was the perfect story to get into the holiday vibe. This story was light, relatable, humorous at times and had Christmas cheer.
Another book from Marie Landry that I simply adore! Marie has such a way with words and always writes characters that are easy to love and stories that have a lot of heart.
This is a sweet and spicy romance - think Hallmark after dark...all the sweetness of a Hallmark Christmas movie but with some spice. This one also took a pretty heavy topic, the loss of a parent, and the grief that follows and handled it with such care. Marie wrote this story after the loss of her own Mom, and you can tell she put her whole heart into it. It was well written, and while it was sad, it also had so much hope, laughter, a festive backdrop of Christmas fun, and so much love. It's so heartfelt and sweet.
The tropes included are small town, only one bed, second chance romance, and found family. There is mental health and grief representation, and it talks a lot about coping with loss. It's so well done. Mason and Hazel are great main characters both together and separately, and I really loved Mason's family as well. You should definitely add this one to your holiday reading list! Official pub day is November 15th. Special thanks to the author, Marie, for my early reading copy. Loved it!
I was lucky to receive an arc copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Please be sure to read the author's note. I'm sure (or hope) that every book is special to its author, but after reading this note I know that this piece of work holds an extra special pace in Marie's heart. Her note deserves to be read, so please don't skip it.
In addition to the story, this book comes with a Spotify playlist curated with more than 50 songs to listen to as you read, or after, to further connect to the characters and the story.
The story moves forward between two 1st person POVs, Hazel and Mason. Hazel, having just experienced terrible loss, pushes everyone away, including the love of her life, Mason. I think this knee-jerk reaction is something many of us can relate to. Even though logically we know being able to lean on others is healthy and helpful it often seems easier in the moment to push everyone aside and only focus on yourself.
To sum this story up in two words, Christmas Mourning. No, that isn't a spelling error. This book ia about processing grief. This book is a tribute to family, both born and found. This book is about finding how to be comfortable again after loss.
Hazel Morris is experiencing her first Christmas without her mom. After the death of her mother, she also broke up with her long-term boyfriend to get a sense of who she is without these important people. After a holiday mishap from Hazel's aunt, Hazel ends up staying with the Reynolds family (and her ex-boyfriend happens to be Mason Reynolds)...except there's one secret Mason has been keeping. He hasn't told his family that Hazel broke up with him six months ago!
This was a beautiful book that handles grief and loss, especially during the holidays. I appreciate that Hazel took the time to heal and owned up to her mistakes, even though those were decisions she needed to make at the time. Mason was an adorable MMC who was gentle with Hazel while still also trying to make it known that he's still wildly in love with Hazel. This was a fantastic holiday read (although some may want to check the trigger warnings before reading: heavy themes of grief and loss of a parent). Major kudos to the author as well for writing this after losing her own mother!
Thank you to Marie Landry for the opportunity to read an Advanced Reader's Copy (ARC) in exchange for my honest opinion and review.
Christmas novellas are a favourite of mine to read, and this one was emotional and heart-warming. Mason and Hazel had been a couple until grief from her mother's death led Hazel to end the relationship. Hoping to spend the holidays with her aunt, Hazel is up for a surprise when her aunt has made other plans. Mason hadn't told his family that him and Hazel had broken up, so when Hazel turns up after being picked up by his mum, he is surprised to see her, but happy to see her. This book was beautifully written, I loved the family vibes and how Mason was determined to make Hazel realize they were perfectly matched. This book was beautifully written, and I enjoyed reading how Hazel dealt with her grief and allowed herself to enjoy spending time with Mason and his family.
Thank you to Marie for the ARC.

This is the lovely story of Hazel, grieving the loss of her beloved mum, who has pushed away her boyfriend and all the people around her... until she finds herself accidentally spending Christmas with him and his family again. It's such a heartfelt and heart-wrenching story, but it also manages to be warm, cosy, uplifting, and hopeful. The grief is heavy and raw, but it's perfectly balanced with lighter moments, a bit of spice, and a wonderful, exuberant family to spend Christmas with!
I loved every moment of this book, especially the way it made me giggle through the tears! An emotional warm hug of a story - reading it is like wrapping yourself in a cosy blanket and snuggling up with a mug of hot chocolate in front of a crackling fire! A snuggly, lovely five-star read!
This book was so beautifully written that I could not put it down! Not only is this a sweet small town/second chance holiday romance it also brought a little spice!
Marie Landry used her own experience with grief and the grieving process to write this heartbreaking love story that had me in tears several times!
I loved Mason's character and how he was just so patient and understanding of Hazel's needs while also grieving in his own way. I also enjoyed that the spicer scenes were from his point of view which brings a fresh view to the usual female point of view in romance novels.
Hazel's character had my heart breaking throughout the book while she struggled to cope with the lost of her mother and realize that she is not so alone in this world.
I absolutely connected with this book from the very beginning, from the grief Hazel is going through, to the hurt Mason felt.
This is the first book I’ve ever read set in Ontario and I have to say, this made me connect with this story even more. Marie did an amazing job at balancing the grief with the romance, it’s such a heart felt warm story.
I caught myself with my hand over my heart through most of the book. 🥹 I cried, laughed and read through my tears, even got goosebumps along the way. The playlist Marie has on Spotify is a nice touch, I really enjoyed listening to it while reading.
I even cried with a hand over my heart all the way through to the epilogue & acknowledgments. I don’t think I’ve ever connected with a book as much as I did with this one. Thank you so much Marie for sharing this beautiful story with us 💜
❄️If you’re looking for a heartfelt small town second chance romance, this book is for you. Perfect read for the holiday season coming up, it will get you in the holiday spirit guaranteed. ❄️
Such a cozy heartfelt Christmas romance. Marie, this is a lovely tribute to your Mom. I loved all the love that was displayed in this book - family love, parent love, friend love and of course romantic love. Plus, I love ALL the Christmas things. While difficult, I loved the way the loss of Hazel's mother was protrayed, she was clearly an amazing person and the grief lept off the page, in a good way. For anyone who has lost someone, it doesn't go away but the love remains. This was shown beautifully.
This is the first book I have read from this author and it definitely won’t be the last. I fell in love with this book from the first chapter! I connected with Hazel and the grief she felt at Christmas plus the love Mason has for her was so special. I cried, I laughed and fell in love with both characters. Marie did an amazing job balancing grief and romance, and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting an amazing second chances romance book to read this holiday season.
Second chance romance is one of my favourite tropes to read and Marie did not disappoint.
The loss of a parent is so incredibly hard, and sadly I can relate. There were times that this novel brought tears to my eyes. I felt all of Hazels emotions when it related to losing her Mum. Her best friend.
This story is heart warming and perfect.
I now want to read all of Marie’s books and she will now be an auto buy author for me.
What a beautiful grief filled tribute to the authors Mother and to all things that are wonderful about Christmas. I loved both Hazel and Mason and the Reynolds family. They were real and showed the impact of profound love and support and redemption. I smiled I shed a few tears as well. Anyone suffering from loss can find joy in this lovely Christmas story.
I fell in love with this book instantly. Such a beautiful story of grief and sweet love. The way Mason and his family took Hazel in for Christmas and poured into her while she was grieving, just warmed my heart. You can feel the chemistry between Mason and Hazel. The author put her heart and soul into this book. It’s a great Christmas read with so many emotions.
I loved this story. The grief was real and honest but didn't overshadow the romance. I don't know how Landry did it, but this story balanced all the happy feels I look for in a romance with a touching understanding of the pain of losing a parent. Perfect!
This book was so cute but also emotional. It gave me empathy for how Christmas can bring up mixed emotions for people based on their current life experiences and past hurts.
Marie Landry has taken the grief over the recent loss of her beloved mother and turned it into a heartfelt novella for her readers. You can feel the emotions coming off the page, and the experience behind her words. If you know her or follow her on social media its obvious she has put so much of herself into this latest novel.
I loved the relationship between Mason and Hazel. Both how he waited for her to work through her grief and emotions, and how they worked their way back to each other. Mason had such patience for Hazel's situation. And I also really loved the Reynolds family. They are the in-laws we all want.
Beautifully written with heart, humor and a splash of spice this was a quick little holiday read that I definitely recommend.
Thank you to the author for my ARC in return for an honest review!
TW's: grief, loss of a parent, brief unhealthy coping mechanisms (acknowledged as such on page)
Marie Landry never disappoints with her beautiful stories. At Home With You This Christmas was absolutely wonderful. It was touching, emotional, and romantic. I can't recommend it enough to romance readers and everyone who enjoys a heartwarming and moving book.
A pure delight to read and to get you into the Christmas spirit (it's NEVER too early for some Christmas magic)!
I fell in love with Honeywell Hollowlast year reading Joss and Liam's story Escaping Christmas and to revisit it this year was incredible. More so because of this powerful story, full of grief and love and acceptance, like a warm blanket you didn't know you needed. Hazel and Mason are incredibly sweet and the Reynolds are the stuff from dreams. Do yourselves a favour and start your holiday reading season with this book, you'll fell the hug coming out of the pages.
