Nightfall Nightmares by Miguel Angel Hernandez is a collection of 12 mysterious tales steeped in the macabre. Each story explores the influence of dark forces on humans and how different characters fight to survive despite the high odds stacked against them. Together, the stories paint an investigative narrative into supernatural occurrences that seek dominion over the human populace. The protagonists in each story possess knowledge, talents, sheer will, and a deep sense of justice that are perquisites to fighting the ancient, arcane, dark forces that masquerade in search of prey. Cunning and evil antagonists wield ancient powers to drive their agenda forward, resulting in destructive clashes with the protagonists. Through these tales, Miguel paints a world where dark magic reigns and survival remains elusive, even for the fittest.

Miguel matches the protagonists against antagonists brilliantly in this story, such that each confrontation requires meticulous calculation, setting the stakes high enough to rouse the suspense and thrill characterizing great horror stories. In Mayhem Monster, a crazy scientist uses biotechnology and dark magic to contort a monster that defies human comprehension. The protagonists confront this monster with resilience, wit, and exceptional investigative skills to quell the threat that spells death over this town. Similarly, in Marked, the curiosity of young schoolboys leads them to perform a blood ritual that goes wrong, summoning a demon from the abyss. Stopping the demon proves challenging because it is manipulative, luring victims to its grasp. The Haunting Sea includes plot twists that unravel like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, connecting one plot twist with another to finally resolve the mystery in the story. These three tales capture themes of dark magic, standing out in their chilling details, suspense, and plot twists, leaving the reader uncertain of what or who will emerge victorious.

Miguel further explores determination, resourcefulness, and risk-taking in The Veiled Depths, where the talented and resourceful Hope Khalil faces a formidable dragon entity. Joshua and his four comrades fight against an ancient magic entity that threatens the very existence of their town in The Fall of Elkhorn. Autumn Benedict wakes from her coma and cannot remember anything. A vengeful genie, however, traps her with a wish, sending her to face a formidable foe with a hidden agenda and testing her abilities while unraveling her identity in Trapped with a Wish. The reader appreciates the protagonists’ unique qualities that help them face ancient, formidable magic in these three tales.

Miguel further enhances these tales with mythic creatures, including sirens, banshees, hellhounds, vampires, Yeti, and other mythical creatures. These mythical entities, combined with the plot twists, intense battles, and vivid descriptions, make the story spooky, scary, tense, and gritty, capturing the reader’s attention (albeit with a tight stomach) from start to finish.

Readers who appreciate horror stories are in for a thrilling reward, satisfying their appetite for an adrenaline rush. Readers curious about horror stories may avoid reading this book at night, as the spookiness, chilliness, and thrill in all the tales may leave them on edge. However, readers averse to horror stories may want to steer clear, as some stories contain unsettling elements of dark magic and brutality.

I highly recommend this book to readers who love macabre horror stories.

In “Nightfall Nightmares: Twelve Mysterious Tales,” the second installment in the Twilight Nightmares Series, author Miguel Angel Hernandez Jr. showcases his ability as a master storyteller. This anthology contains a collection of twelve horrific tales. Hernandez pulls readers into his imaginative world filled with mystical creatures, terror, and suspense. This collection is perfect for fans of the horror genre.

Each story is set in carefully crafted settings, from the mesmerizing underwater city of mermaids to the dark, shadowy corners of dense forests, and the gothic confines of ancient castles. Hernandez also seamlessly blends different environments so that readers might find themselves following characters who are trying to escape from secret caves and alien spaceships. Their encounters with otherworldly creatures are terrifying.

No matter where the story takes place, I found common underlying themes of the lust for power, and often the desire to seek revenge. These are familiar, yet still compelling themes. Human or not, individuals will stop at nothing to achieve their goals, no matter who will suffer. It is the suffering of the innocent that adds greatly to the tension. Hernandez has a gift for creating unique plots that readers will still find relatable.

Even though I know these are fictional accounts, they still touched a part of my inner core, so that I was often filled with dread. Most people share a common fear of knowing that there are individuals out there who will do what they need to do to obtain what they want. In this case, most of those individuals were not human. Hernandez’s stories truly will keep readers holding onto the edge of their seats!

The diversity of the stories is what makes “Nightfall Nightmares” stand apart from other horror anthologies. Each tale presents a different creature whether they be a dragon, werewolf, banshee, or even a Djinn. Despite the brevity of the stories, I didn’t feel anything was lacking. Hernandez quickly captures his readers’ attention and manages to provide a complete, complex story. I think the variety helps keep readers engaged, and they will be impressed by his variety of ideas because no two stories are alike. This really shows his creativity and gift for storytelling.

Miguel Angel Hernandez Jr. has created a wonderful yet haunting collection of stories that will leave readers craving more in “Nightfall Nightmares.” His talent for creating vivid imagery and atmospheric detail will leave readers with a foreboding sense of unease that will stay with them long after the last page is turned. I look forward to going back and reading his past works and discovering what he will have for his fans in the future.

Nightfall Nightmares: Twelve Mysterious Tales** by Miguel Angel Hernandez Jr. is the second installment in The Twilight Nightmares Series. This anthology of twelve stories immerses readers in a realm of fear and suspense, where the boundary between reality and nightmares becomes indistinct.

Each story is a self-contained mystery, featuring characters who find themselves in unsettling and often perilous situations. The tales are rich with supernatural encounters, hidden secrets, and surprising twists that keep readers captivated. From haunted houses to cursed artifacts, the book delves into various horror themes, ensuring each story provides a distinct and chilling experience.

One narrative follows a detective on a mission to solve a series of brutal murders, only to uncover that the perpetrator might not be human. Another story centers on an ordinary man who, after a bizarre encounter, starts experiencing terrifying visions that threaten his sanity. The collection also includes tales of vengeful spirits, ancient curses, and sinister creatures lurking in the darkness.

Miguel Angel Hernandez Jr. skillfully creates tension and suspense, drawing readers into his eerie world where danger and horror are ever-present. His vivid and engaging writing style makes it easy for readers to become absorbed in the dark and mysterious settings of each story.

In summary, Nightfall Nightmares is a must-read for enthusiasts of horror and mystery. Its compelling tales and spine-chilling twists make it an exciting addition to The Twilight Nightmares Series. If you enjoy stories that send shivers down your spine and keep you guessing until the very end, this book is definitely for you.

I received a copy of this book from ebookfairs.com in exchange for an honest review. I have posted a detailed review on their website, but here's a condensed version.

"Nightfall Nightmares" is a collection of short stories by Miguel Angel Hernandez, all exploring the themes encapsulated in the horror genre. Here, a town is engulfed in permeating evil, and to save the people, one man volunteers to help, gathering a team of brave men and women. A man walks in the night, only to be attacked by his foes, and later turns up dead, which is why his partner wouldn’t rest until the killers pay with their lives. Somewhere else within the bindings of this book, something evil has brought out the evil in cats just when the detectives are closing in on a serial killer. And there’s also the evil doctor, one calling himself Dr. Catalyst. What’s more, there’s a city beneath the sea, to which the protagonist goes as he investigates the mysterious disappearances of ships, using his mysterious abilities and relying on his newfound friendship with sirens. A group of boys summon a monster.

Some of the standout stories for me were "The Fall of Elkhorn," "Catastrophe," "The Haunting Sea," "The Marked," "Mayhem Monster," and "A Deadly Masquerade."

In short, "Nightfall Nightmares" is a must-read for horror fans.

"Nightfall Nightmares" by Miguel Angel Hernandez Jr. gets you involved right from the start with the setting established in what can accurately be described as a harsh environment.

Hopes everyday life is a potentially lethal event in this novel, and the reader is immediately shown this in the case of a man who had a heart attack.

From my reading experience, I understand that in a world that is so wicked and cruel, a person can fight for justice.

I also enjoyed the part where Donald was interacting with his owl named Algar; there were funny moments that made me laugh. However, it is kept to a minimum, so don't expect a lot of it.

Additionally, something new that I learned from the story is perseverance even when things aren't easy. Donald suffers from a lot of doubt and pain from his past, but he carries on because he has to save Fiona.

Its a surreal flaw that leaves people with a bitter lesson: even when all hope has been lost, the ones that matter to us should never be thrown away.

In my view, if you like the genres of mystery, suspense, and justice, this book should be on your shelf.

I recommend this novel to anyone who likes mysteries and action.

I would also recommend it to young adults who enjoy powerful characters, cities of the future, and unpredictable
plot as well.

I decided to read this book because I love Halloween and spooky/scary stories. The blurb says if your a fan of Stephen King's Twisted Tales of Terror then this is a book for you. No. No it was not. I struggled so much to finish this book. There were many times I thought about just not finishing the book.

In most of the stories there were confusing and conflicting statements. Most lacked detail to explain things that were happening. Fight scenes were dull. If your going to tell me that the hero of the story takes the villian's weapon from him and delivers a fatal blow. Tell me how he gets the weapon, what kind of weapon, how does he deliver the fatal blow?

There was definitely a clear pattern that developed with the ending of the stories. I will not go into detail about those here so as to not spoil it for other readers.

In my opinion there were several stories that were better than others but they still lacked details.

All in all it isn't a book I would ever read again. I'd advise friends to try to get a sample snippet to read before committing to the book.

This book exhibits Hernandez's wide-ranging skills as an author. He moves smoothly from traditional horror stories into contemporary mind games that evoke not only classic but also the most recent songs. The stories are at once both, entertaining and thought-provoking and, most of the time, readers are left with questions about terror and the unknown.

Nonetheless, the author’s original and very interesting take on the subjects and his captivating storytelling makes "Nightfall Nightmares" a really fun and pleasant read not only for experienced horror readers, but also the less and more experienced ones. The book is excellent for the people who treasure short, engaging stories to finish in a single sitting or to savor over the time.
In general, "Nightfall Nightmares: Twelve Mysterious Tales" is a fresh and inviting piece in The Twilight Nightmares series both by displaying Miguel Angel Hernandez Jr.'s memorable writing and uncanny and breathtaking narratives and because of this I give it a 5 star rating.

"Nightfall Nightmares: Twelve Mysterious Tales" by Miguel Angel Hernandez Jr. is the second book in "The Twilight Nightmare" series. The book is a collection of twelve spine-chilling stories that blend horror, mystery, and suspense. The stories range from supernatural encounters to dangerous investigations, all set in a world of dark secrets and unexpected twists.

One thing that first captured my attention was the narration in the first person point of view in the first chapter. This kept me hinged and engaged and wanting to know more about the book. Also, the switch between points of view in the latter chapter was perfect. One of the standout aspects of "Nightfall Nightmares" is its rich character development and engaging storylines. Furthermore, this story has great pacing, with each discovery raising the stakes and building up to a satisfying climax. The author’s writing style is engaging, and his ability to create suspense and horror is commendable.

Overall, the author's ability to construct rich stories around engaging characters makes this novel a must-read for genre fans. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys thrilling horror.
