Welcome to my author page! I’m Taylor and I’m a 23 year old hopeless romantic from South Dakota. Thank you so much for being here & triple the thank you if you read or even looked at my book!
The Letter B was my first book and boy, was it an experience. I have LEARNED so much from this book that it’s been so helpful for my next one.
With that, I love hearing what people think or their opinions so send them my way!
I appreciate you helping me start this new journey as a new author!
I had heard about this book through the grapevine and was excited to check it out, especially to support new and local authors. I will say kudos to the author for getting her book out there, a lot goes into the writing and publishing process. That being said, there are many things about this book that I did and did not like, and will expand on.
To start, I did find the plot very interesting and it did keep me engaged. I do wish that there was more time establishing the personal relationships between the FL and the MLs of the story, especially because the FL has a history of bad relationships and would be leery to engage with two men that she does not know on such a personal level. I would have also liked to see more focus on the FL’s job and her article, and maybe how she established herself in her career, as it is a focal point in the plot. I do think the side characters were vibrant and didn’t fall flat compared to the main characters, which is something I really enjoy.
Some other things I noticed while reading is that there were some inconsistencies that would occur in the book. The main one I noticed is that the location of the story kept bouncing between Denver and Phoenix, which I’m unsure if this is because the FL originally started in Phoenix and ended up in Denver, or if both locations were considered when the rough draft was being made, and didn’t get cleaned up during editing. There also appeared to be an editor’s note later in the book regarding the FL’s phone and her toe, before the dinner scene. Besides those most notable things, there are a few grammatical things, but I don’t think that should stop anyone from reading a book.
I will say the ending did catch me by surprise, and personally it is not a favorite trope of mine, but to each their own. I do think that prior to the epilogue the story felt rushed, which can sometimes be hard to balance when it is mixed with action scenes. I also felt like some of the reveal in the car could have been subtly hinted at throughout the story, rather than getting some obvious hints in the couple chapters leading up to it.
Overall, I think that The Letter B is a decent first book, and I am curious to see what the author has in the works and hope to see how she develops as a writer.
