I enjoyed the mix of adventure and romance in this, and the way it explores different relationship dynamics.
Liliana is a Spiderkin seer and clients come to her to see their future and the truth, but when she has visions of a series of deaths she decides to try and intervene to avoid disastrous consequences for her kin.
I like Liliana's witty attitude and desires to do the right things. She bravely volunteers herself to help protect others, and tries to change the future outcomes for better alternatives.
I also liked Liliana's ability to use her gifts to see people's emotions and motivations.
It's a mix of mythology and beastkin cultures, as well as psychic abilities, with a fast paced storyline, high stakes, spicy chemistry and fierce characters.

✨ "You keep pointing guns at me. It's making it very hard for me to like you"

✨ "His heart was as cold as the obsidian stone of his Fae form"

✨ "You say exactly what you mean. Everything out if your mouth is the absolute unvarnished truth. I'm not used to that. It's...refreshing"

✨"I have seen inside you. You want to claim me as yours as well. You want to use sex to do it. I want to use venom"

✨ You know, a prince is supposed to be good with words. You should probably work on that"

My rating is 4.75/5.

I loved 😍 this book.

The story was fast paced as always and as always the interaction between our FL and the ML makes me smile / giggle.

We learn more about the ML, the mysterious guy with the complex, multi layered personality.
"She'd seen him, the core and all the complex layers of him".

I like how she analyses him as well, she is well aware of his "gray morality" and she has strong moral codes hence she isn't swayed by his seduction or attempt. If anything it is the other way around.

On his end we understand why he is attracted to her, primarily her honesty but it's more and he described it the best 😉.

The development of their relationship is the core of this book from budding to blooming (the rose 🌹 was a beautiful allegory).

I can't wait the continuation of the story and their relationship. It made me smile so much. No drama just good feelings tainted with realism.

Spoiler : "The fastest way to find any man's heart is through the third and fourth rib on the left side". My favorite quote, it made me laugh so hard

PS: I didn't rate 5/5 stars because I wanted more 😊.

I received and ARC from the author.

Paige Ewing’s creativity and writing just gets better!

This book grabbed me from the beginning and didn’t let me go until I read the last page. It has everything you want from a book: a strong and authentic FMC, strong friendships, suspense/action, romance/love, and a unique story line. I was uncertain whether the author would be able to pull off the romantic piece to this series. But, boy, did the author ever deliver in this book! I’m impressed with how the romantic piece actually has depth and authenticity along with some spice.

The author is skilled at setting up upcoming plot lines in future books, such as the fury Alexander’s ex felt after Alexander broke up with him. It sounds like Alexander’s ex will be back for vengeance.

I highly recommend reading this book and I can’t wait for book 4.

I received an ARC copy of this book and this is my honest review.

YAAASSSS!!!

Another installment to what is fast becoming one of my fave series!

If you don't like spoilers, don't read. I love a spoiler to determine if something is worth my time, and this definitely is!

Lily continues to break herself out of her lonely shell while trying to keep her friends safe. We start off with her visiting Col. Bennet so she can decide whether or not to thwart the vision of his death. There is a ton of chemistry, but Lily leaves uncertain due to his motivations.

There are kind of 2 plots going on at once. I wouldn't be surprised if the author broke out to write a book from Pete's perspective. OR possibly Ben, that would be fun.

From the previous book, we know Pete will be facing off against wolf attackers. Lily sees that he has trained hard enough and will be okay. We don't really see much of Pete in this book, and while I do want more, I can see how it would take away from what Lily is working on. He fights off the attackers just fine, but his other problem is that his relationship with Ben is starting to strain due to the Other secret. Lily does spend some time trying to gently show Ben the Other without it having a negative impact. That's about all we get about Pete, besides the end, which SPOILER!! this is a prediction, but it seems like his sister or a relative is coming to kill him. Lily sees that he will shoot someone who attacks him, and regrets it. She warns him against killing. This is not resolved in this book.

On the other hand, Lily is trying to decide if Bennet is a good person, as well as a good option for a mate. While feeling him out, she also sticks her nose in the lion shifter business due to her sense of duty towards them, and 3 shifters showing up at her work. She decides to be a Champion for the duel to be king of the shifter pack. This is held in the Fort, and after winning with injuries, Bennet takes her home and they admit to mutual attraction. They continue to get closer, but even as she learns more about him, Lily can't seem to find a way to keep him from dying. I guess I'll keep myself from spoiling the ending.

I'm excited for future books! I believe Lily will continue to encounter more family and people from her past in the next installments. I'm sure some greater evil power will reveal itself as well, as we don't know for sure who wants the sword. I hope Bennet's craving for power doesn't overpower his feelings for Lily, but it does seem like a likely tension point for the future. There seems to be unlimited potential for this series, with so many loose threads. Will we get to be with her as she turns into an adult? Or will things be solved before then? Will she end up in a triad eventually? Not my preference, but I like the way the author showcases relationships, so I wouldn't mind another love interest. But I hope with all my heart that we don't get a love triangle. I'm fine with anything as long as it's not a love triangle, lol.

Liliana has seen a future where handsome army colonel and secret fae prince, Alexander Bennett, is horrifically murdered and she needs to decide whether or not, and how to, prevent this from happening. In truth, she's attracted to Alexander, but she's not sure he is a good guy. Sigh! Does it matter? Bad boys can be so much fun! Really, wouldn't Lilly's hitherto reclusive existence be spiced up by hooking up with the dark and influential Alexander AND she saves him as well? This is why I loved this book from start to finish!

Liliana is a spider-kin whose four sets of eyes come in handy to see through time, space, and intent. She has spent a long and quiet life supporting herself by telling fortunes, and staying "off the grid", in a futuristic North Carolina that has a few technological advances beyond our time. But lately, her future-sight has led to her intervene in some pretty big machinations involving political intrigues and power shifts within the world of Others that includes fae, shifters, and wizards. Getting involved means collecting new friends, both Others and Normals, for the shy spider-kin who hasn't always processed the spoken word and social norms the way neuro-ordinary people would do.

I really enjoyed Obsidian Prince as the third in the "Fae of Fayetteville" series. Things are heating up with Alexander. Liliana's friendships are solidifying and her reputation is rising. Her concrete way of thinking conveys an amusing and endearing quality, as well as her proclivity to say exactly what is on her mind. Those who are close to Liliana trust her to tell the truth and this plays a crucial role in her ability to protect those she loves. I was fascinated by Paige Ewing's imagination and creativity in telling the story of a seer whose glimpses of the future can lead to more questions and confusion rather than a definite solution. There are so many future paths and each decision can alter them into even more possibilities. I felt very invested in Liliana and Alexander's dilemma and the anticipation of whether their mystery threat can be solved in time. Very exciting! Very sexy! Brilliantly envisioned! Like a reader stuck in a web, I am entrapped and need more. Bring it on, Paige Ewing!

Paige E. Ewing’s Obsidian Prince is a mesmerizing third installment in the Liliana and the Fae of Fayetteville series, seamlessly blending action, romance, and high-stakes magic. Liliana’s journey becomes even more intense as she grapples with threats that could shatter both the human and Fae realms, and the result is a story that’s as thrilling as it is emotionally charged.

Liliana shines as a fierce and complex protagonist. Her struggles with leadership, loyalty, and an ever-deepening connection to the enigmatic Colonel Alexander Bennett make her a character you can’t help but root for. Facing down a lion-kin king and dealing with Alexander’s tangled past showcase both her bravery and her vulnerability, creating an emotional depth that resonates throughout the story.

Alexander Bennett is the ultimate anti-hero: commanding, dangerous, and utterly magnetic. The simmering tension between him and Liliana leaps off the page, especially after that kiss, which throws their already precarious alliance into uncharted territory. The forbidden romance between them adds a delicious layer of intrigue and longing to the plot, while also keeping readers guessing about their ultimate fate.

The secondary characters, particularly Pete and the vengeful wizard ex, add richness and stakes to the story. Their subplots intertwine seamlessly with the main narrative, ensuring that every page brings fresh twists and surprises.

Ewing’s world-building continues to impress, with vivid descriptions of both Fayetteville and the Fae realms that make the magic feel alive. The action sequences are heart-pounding, especially Liliana’s battle with the lion-kin, while the political intrigue among the Fae adds layers of complexity to the plot.

Obsidian Prince is a must-read for fans of forbidden romance, powerful magic, and fast-paced adventures. It will leave you breathless and eager for the next chapter in Liliana’s extraordinary journey. If you’ve been following her story, this book is an unmissable turning point, filled with unforgettable moments and tantalizing possibilities.

The enchanting, mythological realm of Liliana, the all-seeing spider-kin, unfolds with renewed brilliance in Obsidian Prince, the third installment in this captivating series. Picking up seamlessly from the events of Precise Oaths and Explosive Chemistry, the story plunges readers into a world brimming with tension, romance, and danger. When one of Liliana’s visions reveals Colonel Alexander in peril, she races to warn him, confronting her own growing feelings in the process. As their connection deepens, external threats loom—a coup within the North Carolina lion-kin pride and a string of brutal camper attacks—forcing Liliana to navigate her powers and emotions carefully.

In the vast landscape of hybrid love stories, Obsidian Prince carves out a distinctive and irresistible charm. Liliana remains unapologetically true to herself throughout the narrative, her social abilities left intact rather than altered or diminished to suit the framework of a relationship. This choice is both refreshing and empowering. Liliana’s authenticity is neither infantilized nor romanticized; it is presented as an integral part of her essence, appreciated and cherished in its own right. This nuance elevates her character and deepens the emotional resonance of the story.

Equally compelling is the way the novel intertwines contemporary issues of gender and race with the fantastical prejudice of its otherworldly setting. The characters exist as layered, multifaceted beings, embodying both their supernatural and humanized forms in equal measure. This interplay creates a kaleidoscope of identities, each given the space to matter without overshadowing the other. Balancing such complexity is no small feat, yet Obsidian Prince manages it with finesse, leaving a lasting impression.

For readers of fantasy and romance, Obsidian Prince offers a luminous tapestry of personalities, relationships, and adventures. This is a world where bonds shimmer with depth, and characters thrive in their authenticity, making it an experience as thrilling as it is heartfelt. Whether you’re new to Liliana’s journey or a devoted follower of the series, this book promises to enchant and inspire.

Received an ARC
This was a really fun book to read. I met the author at a convention and when she mentioned having spiderkin in her book I was intrigued.

The way she handles all the beastkin in her books is very well done. One of my biggest complaints when writers use characters that are part animal is that the characters so often behave in ways that don’t make sense for the animal or human side. In these books, the beast kin are a fantastic blend of the animal and human sides of their nature.

The spider kin main character is truly a gem. Liliana is written in a very multi-layered way with each set of eyes giving her different input which gives her a different thought process. I, also, loved how dangerous she is and how she is shy in crowds but when she fights, she is a bonafide threat. This ran so true to me since, in most spider species, the female is the more dangerous. So seeing her fierce and gentle and joyous sides all fully displayed felt very real.

The romance is well handled and the spicy scenes are very fun and hot. This book really shows the pitfalls and challenges of trying to date a half fae child of no less than Titania.

Overall, I recommend this book and will immediately be returning to the first book in the series which I started before being offered the chance to read this one. Even though I know where certain events will lead in the previous books, I find the characters and the author’s style of writing so entertaining that I know I’m going to enjoy the ride.

(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I want to change my scoring by 0.50 or more of a star. -- I tend not to read reviews until after I read a book, so I go in with an open mind.)

3.75*

I'm enjoying this series more with each book, hence the new rating. I had rated book 1 at 3.25*.

I still feel the below (my original review)

I liked that the MC was not one of the standard species, it's not often you see spider-kin in books, let alone as the lead.
I also liked the various other characters and look forward to learning more about them in the next book

First time read the author's work?: No

Will you be reading more?: Yes

Would you recommend?: Yes

------------
How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author)
4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author).
3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series)
or
3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)

All of the above scores means I would recommend them!
-
2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.)
1* = Disliked

Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see the stars differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-)

In the third book in Paige Ewing’s Liliana and the Fae of Fayetteville series, readers rejoin Liliana at a particularly chaotic point in her life because the secretly half-Fae prince Colonel Alexander Bennett is stirring up war among the Fae. With the death of the lion-kin king, Liliana must either fight a lion or risk Bennett claiming the throne while a vengeful wizard has his eyes on Liliana’s dear friend Pete. When a vision reveals a strange and uncomfortable truth, Liliana must see if she can save herself and her friends before the kingdom collapses into war and threatens to destroy everyone she loves. With a host of fascinating characters and new and high stakes in the Fae realm, the readers must join Liliana in desperate circumstances and rediscover the magic, betrayal, and forbidden love that constantly appear in Fayetteville and among her people. The characters continue to star throughout this novel and really bring it to life, while Ewing’s magic system and Fae realm are complex, dangerous, and beautiful on every page. With new challenges to the peace Liliana has enjoyed for the last century, readers will be immersed in this fascinating magic system and the race to stop Bennett from starting a destructive war.

Paige captivates readers from the first page, skillfully crafting a story of complex relationships, moral complexity, and personal development.

The neurodivergent spider-kin protagonist, Liliana, is multi-eyed, multi-talented, and unrepentant. Her persona exemplifies empowerment and highlights the value of individuality.

Liliana and Alexander's slow-burning romance is captivating. Their exchanges are genuine, full of comedy, spice, and vulnerability. Pay attention since there are power dynamics and personal development in there, while delving into the complexity of relationships.

The intricately designed environment grows, adding more mythology and ancient woodland inhabitants. Fae politics, exciting action, and beastkin cultures all come together to drive the plot.

"Obsidian Prince" successfully combines romance, fantasy, and self-discovery. Its engrossing characters, complex world-building, and poignant narrative this book will leave readers eagerly awaiting the next installment and cinematic adaptation.

So, I didn’t actually realise until the end of this book that it was part of a series, so I’ll start by saying I read this as a stand-alone, and although I’d like to read the rest of the series now, it is also brilliant as a stand-alone!
Despite being the third in the series, I feel like this book had enough brilliant world building to still know what was going on if you hadn’t read the others.
Although I’m not normally a romance girly, I enjoyed the romance between Lillian and Alexander (although there is a little spice which I admittedly did skip through as it’s not really my thing). I felt like it grew well as the story went on, and by the end I was really rooting for them.
I also LOVE wholesome, platonic friendships, so Lillian’s friendship with Pete was very much appreciated!
I loved how this book combined genres, with a lil bit of fantasy, scifi and romance ✨ such a fun read!!

Another excellent instalment in this original series! The plot from the previous two books continues in this action-packed story, where two major events from Liliana’s visions are scheduled to take place. The fight where Pete dies and the murder of Alexander Bennet, so have all her efforts been enough to prevent the fatal outcomes?

This time the story has a lot more romance and the slow burn finally pays off. Don’t worry though, it’s well balanced and doesn’t overshadow the of action and mystery. As always Ewings writing is engaging and accessible, making this book extremely hard to put down.

As much as I loved this book I highly recommend prospective readers to read this series in order. The first book remains one of the best and most original series starters I’ve read in this genre. And getting to know all of the characters makes the payoff so much better.

*Late post 😩*

First and foremost thanks to the author and publishing house for the advanced read

I truly enjoyed reading this and didn't expect to laugh along this ride with the FL and ML. There were sound bites as well that are worth repeating in real life at least to my spouse for fun.

The author wrote the ML as a complex man who kind of tows the line of how we say morally gray. However the ends justifies the means but you can never question how he feels about Liliana. Speaking of our FL I found myself trying tell her to stop getting involved. So it's safe to say I was highly invested in this book.

This book will give you everything: love, laughs, action, great building relationship with the leads and well paced story in my opinion.

Liliana, the multi eyed, multi talented, neurodivergent spider-kin swings into her third book with increasing self confidence. She dances in the trees and she enjoys time spent with her friends. Liliana fights to defeat unworthy tyrants and defend those she loves.

Life is complicated, even more so as her North Carolina community of Others expands to include creatures who have been sleeping in the forests for generations. And then there is Alexander, let me just say the spicy content was worth the wait.

I’m eagerly anticipating the further adventures of Liliana.

Liliana and the Fae of Fayetteville Book 3.
I loved the cover and blurb of this book. Even though I haven't read the first two books, I still enjoyed this book. I loved Liliana. I liked how her abilities helped her to see people's different emotions and motivations. I liked her desire to help people. I did like Alexander and how he and Liliana were together. Their chemistry. I also liked Giovanni and Lieutenant Runningwolf. Even Pete. I did like the ending. I'm looking forward to the next book. Would recommend.

I wasn’t sure when I started reading this if I would enjoy a spider as a main character. Because after all, what would she even look like? I could only surmise that the humanoid figure would be creepy. But as I got further in I couldn’t help be entranced by Lilly. With her seer-vision and ability to hide her eyes I found her deeply fascinating. And the action that surrounds her is so fun a quick it makes for a fantastic and entertaining read. 5 ⭐️ from me.

A fast-paced supernatural thriller with a slow-burn romance, this book is the third in a sci-fi fantasy series (read all of the books in order for the best reader experience). Top-notch worldbuilding and main character development (I've said since book 1 that the MC is truly unique and refreshing), but now with the series plot evolving and interlocking almost effortlessly. Looking forward to the next installment. Urban romantasy at its finest.

Excellent world building. And excellent transition from one book to another. Characters are beautifully developed and deep. The romance is slow, which allows for development and building of the relationship. The action, however, is very fast and moves the story along at a pace that is quick but not too quick to enjoy. So much fun!

The series just keeps getting better and better! It’s very hard not to read it all in one sitting. Lilliana just keeps getting stronger and wiser in the world with understanding other’s emotions. “Though she be but little, she is fierce” describes her perfectly. This book has action, drama and romance. What more could you ask for? Maybe for Paige to hurry with the next one!

This third book has more. More action, more intrigue, more character development. The more this fantastic world interacts with our mundane one, the more believable it becomes.

What I really want to know though is What KIND of craft beer?

This series just keeps getting better and better, doesn't it?

The short version: You should Obsidian Prince if you are looking for a story with amazing world building, lovely romance, and plenty of action!

The longer version: One thing that really stood out in Obsidian Prince was the way all the relationships were beautifully written. The relationship between Liliana (Lily) and Alexander was particularly well written, and I really loved how they grew together. The way Lily sees all of Alexander and acknowledges his flaws but still loves him is beautiful. The side characters also have some nice relationships, like Peter and Lily. He has her back and she has his. They just have a really nice friendship, and they are my favorite platonic relationship!

Another thing that stood out was the plot. I love how Paige Ewing ties all the events together, making everything drive the plot forward, with new events promising future adventures! The plot was intricate, but not intricate enough to be indecipherable, which was nice. The way the relationships between Liliana and the rest of the characters tie in with the plot is also nice.

Some other noteworthy things include the rose and how it described Lily and Alexander's relationship, the way the beastkin culture was described, and the well developed personalities of the side characters.

Thank you to the author for providing me with this ARC, but all opinions stated are my own!
