Laura Howard lives in New Hampshire with her husband and four children. Her obsession with books began at the age of 6 when she got her first library card. Nancy Drew, Sweet Valley High and other girly novels were routinely devoured in single sittings. Books took a backseat to diapers when she had her first child. It wasn’t until the release of a little novel called Twilight, 8 years later, that she rediscovered her love of fiction. Soon after, her own characters began to make themselves known. The Forgotten Ones is her first published novel.

Stone of Destiny is book two in Laura Howard’s Danaan Trilogy.

 photo stone_zpsefbda326.jpg

Allison’s father Liam and her new Danaan friends have figured out that Liam’s ex-mistress, Aoife, has escaped. Aoife wants one thing and that is Liam and she is willing to do just about anything to keep him from Allison’s mother or anyone else that could keep him from her.

Just when Allison is about to give up and admit to Ethan how she feels, how she has always felt, he starts treating her with cruelty and anger. Could she have waited too long? Did his feelings die for her, or is something else at work here?

Along with everything else, her best friend and cousin, Nicole has some big news for everyone. Just one more thing to pile on to the mound of things Allison has on her shoulders.

We also get to know Allison’s half sister, Samantha in this book. At first I questioned her loyalties but as I got to know her, I really feel she is trying to help. I would love for Samantha and Allison to get to know each other better and have a relationship as sisters. They both seem so lonely.

As before, our Allison carries the weight of the world on her shoulders. And she always feels like it is her and her alone responsible for solving everything.

“I wasn’t sure what, but I knew I simply had to figure out a way to set things right. And the only way to do that was to deal with Aoife myself.”

We also FINALLY get some sweet Allison and Ethan moments. These two have been in love for most of their lives. They both so deserve everything the other has to offer and I am so glad they have found their way to each other.

“I don’t need magic powers to know you’re the one for me.” He shrugged. “I’ve always known.”

Allison’s adventures take her from Stoneville to the Danaan’s realm of Tir na n’Og to The Hill of Tara in Ireland to attempt to trap Aoife at the Stone of Destiny. Along the way, the bonds are strengthening between Allison and her father, Liam, and she finally has a chance at love with Ethan. But will their plan work? Can she finally break the spell trapping her mother inside her mind? Can she stop Aoife’s evil plans? Well, there is a cliffhanger, so we will have to wait until book three to find out. Will I be reading it when it comes out? You bet I will!!!

Step one, read The Forgotten Ones. Step two, pick up Stone of Destiny by Laura Howard to continue the events of this trilogy that has become a magical ride into the land of the Tuatha De Danaan and back to the human world. Evil jealousy is the villain as Liam’s faerie mistress has made it her mission to keep Allison’s parents apart. With a surprising, no shocking twist, there is more to Aofie’s secrets than meets the eye and just maybe, Allison has a half-sister in the human world! My first question, how could Liam not know about TWO daughters and what will he do about this?

As if Allison’ life isn’t in enough turmoil, (which she is handling admirably), for some reason, Ethan, her support, her rock through all of this changed and its heartbreaking to watch his cruelty towards Allison. Is he acting on his own or is there a game of manipulation going on? When the character list grows, and so many of them hold magical powers, who can be trusted? The Danaan cannot lie, but they can skate around the truth, is the enemy of my enemy an ally or just another enemy to be on the lookout for?

Once again, I was completely at the mercy of Laura Howard’s magical pen as she whisks us back into the world of the fae, Irish mythology and suspenseful danger beyond anything in this realm. Allison has grown, she is coming into the realization that this is her world now, too and she is on a mission to save those she cares about, at any cost. Well-crafted and emotionally magnetic, Ms. Hoard’s style is perfect for fantasy lovers who enjoy the little crumbs she dabbles across the pages to fully engage your mind and your heart.

In a brilliant move on my part, I received this copy from Indie Inked in exchange for my honest review.

I was rather fond of the first book in this series but the second installment seemed pointless. It's like the whole thing was set up just to provide a dramatic loss at the end. Really, what even happened in this book? I really wanted to get lost in this world and see the characters develop but by the end I was just happy this long boring ride was over...until the next book.

I thought I reviewed this awhile back, but realized I hadn't finished writing it. Loved this story! Although I read it months and months ago, the characters have stayed with me. Even better than the first book. Look forward to reading the final book in the series from the author!

I have eagerly been awaiting the release of ‘Stone of Destiny’ ever since I finished the last page of ‘The Forgotten Ones’ and it not only reached my expectations but surpassed them. I adored ‘The Forgotten Ones’ and didn’t think it was possible for Laura Howard to make me love the world she created more than I already did, but she did, and I just fell into the story with such ease and lost myself in the beautiful world of Tír na n’Óg that I felt bereft to leave it behind when I finished.

The first book was spectacularly written, but in ‘Stone of Destiny’ I really saw a beautiful development of Laura Howard’s writing style since book one, almost as though she had a new confidence that just shone through in her brilliant character and story development.

‘Stone of Destiny’ has us return right where we left off. I really saw the growth of Allison’s character in this book, and admired the strength of her devotion to keep her mother safe. Allison is the kind of character that I know a lot of girls will identify with and strive to be like, and I was no exception. I loved how human she was, despite how knowing of the Danaan has changed her perspective and hopes of life. Her very human feelings for Ethan were exceptionally written and my heart ached for her at the beginning of this book when we see Ethan acting cruelly to her. I was firmly on Team Allison until we find out that his behaviour is due to the meddling Danaan King, Deaghlan (Oh how I love to hate him, even when I’m kind of swooning over his arrogant bad-boy, but kind of charming demeanour).

The development of the other characters was also paced perfectly. It’s no secret that my favourite character in this series is Aodhan (seriously, I am so in love with this guy), and I loved seeing further into his complicated relationship with Danaan Princess Niamh, and getting to see Niamh in a different light. I am rooting for them so hard, that everytime I saw a development in their relationship I felt my heart ache from happiness. I know it will be a tough road, but that just makes it so satisfying to see the small changes in their relationship.

I loved the action in this book as well. We see the characters continuing their fight against Aoife, and there are many twists and turns in this story which makes you sit right on the edge of your seat, biting your lip as you await the outcome. Laura Howard did a fantastic job at teasing us with little snippets of information which then weigh on your mind throughout the book, making you less trusting of certain characters. Brilliantly done.

This was a fantastic sequel to one of my favourite books of 2013, and I know without a doubt that ‘Stone of Destiny’ will stay in my top favourites of 2014 as well.

Superb job Laura, and I CAN’T WAIT till Danaan #3!

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange of an honest review.

Stone of Destiny was fabulous. I couldn't give it a full 5 stars because I need a bit more drama, but overall I was still impressed.

Allison is still a determined young lady. In this book she is more open to trusting Liam and is still working hard to help her mother be reunited with him without a curse. Allison has her moments where she afraid, but she never lets it overtake her mind and her "mission" -- she is definitely a strong female character.

Ethan is such a sweetheart! I love him and his relationship with Allison. They are such a perfect couple. He made sure to stay with Allison the whole time through her ordeal with the Dannans. His secret crush he had on her was super adorable. Ethan is definitely a hottie in my eyes.

Liam is such an amazing father. Even though he didn't know about his daughters he made an effort to get to know them and become the father he couldn't be at the time of their childhood. He definitely a respectable man and has kudos from me!

Samantha, the long lost secret daughter of Liam and Aoife, seemed fishy at first to me. I thought she was there to help her mother, but the more I read on I began to like her. She only wanted to meet her blood family and make amends with them. What she did towards the end to help Allison and Liam was very awesome.

Aoife is a crazy lady! I mean what woman gives up her child because she doesn't want the baby to steal the attention from her lover? I purely hate Aoife, but she played the deranged, jealous woman to a T.

Saoirse is freaking horrible! How could she help her daughter knowing what her daughter did is wrong. I kind of understand from the parent POV, but at the same time, whether she has emotions or not, she should have reprimanded her daughter. Not help her escape and destroy humans. Such foolishness. Even though she still helps Allison I just think she should have never helped Aoife, but simply keep her in that damn Fey globe.

I definitely need to know what happens next. Is Liam died? Where is Samantha? Does Aoife do the binding? Does Allison go back? Does Aodhan agree to be with Niamh? Just so many unanswered questions!

The Stone of Destiny picks up right where The Forgotten Ones ended. With everyone being aware that Aoife has escaped (something Allison discovers at the end of The Forgotten Ones), so you would think that there would be a call to arms, a sudden search for Aoife, or a gathering of forces or something... but instead life seems to plod along as normal. Nobody seems overly concerned and in fact we get a good portion of the way through the book before they actually decide to do anything about it... from then on in the story seems to rush along to the climax.

The amazing writing style we found in The Forgotten Ones continues through into Stone of Destiny, again Howard wows us with her descriptive text that truly makes you feel as though you are right there on the page with Allison and her friends. It is easy to get so completely caught up with this story that its entirely possible to finish it in one sitting. Much like I did. I honestly couldn't get enough of it. Whilst reading though I noticed there's a slight discrepancy with the timeline... Whilst sitting in Liam's house Allison thinks back on how much Liam's life has changed since he showed up on her doorstep two months ago looking for her mother. In those two months he managed to buy a plot of land, have it cleared and have a single story house built and fully furnished using human contractors. In the grand scheme of things it's a small thing, but it was very noticeable for me.

If I'm honest I will admit to feeling a little disappointed with this book. There where so many questions, important questions that just weren't answered, and not just because people didn't have the answers but because people didn't ask the questions. Simple questions like... Why did Saoirse let Aoife out of the Fey Ball? How did Maire know to expect Liam, Allison and Ethan?... Why where these people too stupid to stop and think and realise. To be fair... I probably would have rolled my eyes at the sheer perfection of it all if everything HAD gone as planned. Because honestly it all sounded too easy... but then that was something else they didn't pick up.

Thanks to Netgalley and Indie Inked for allowing me to read and review an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Once again, I find myself reading a sequel to a book I discovered through Netgalley, and once again I find myself happy that I became a reviewer so that I can enjoy these more obscure reads. I probably would never have picked up "The Lost Ones" originally if it hadn't caught my eye on Netgalley, and thus wouldn't have felt obligated to follow through with "Stone of Destiny", both of which were fun reads for me.

"Stone of Destiny" picks up right where "The Lost Ones" finished, and as such, I needed a bit of a recap as to what had happened previously. I thought that Howard did a decent job of carrying the story on without losing me, but I would have liked more insight into Allison's relationship with Ethan. Why was she so smitten with him, and vice versa? I couldn't really remember, and it was like they jumped from a little bit more than friendship to a full blown romance without any real development.

In this installment, Allison is trying to stop Aoife from wreaking havoc in her and her parents' lives. She is able to enlist the help of several other characters, both human and fae, in her pursuit of Aoife, but runs into problems in that she doesn't know who to trust. A good portion of the book is spent learning about some of these new characters and what their capabilities are and what their relationships are to everyone else. Oh, what a tangled web we weave!

It's not all serious, however. There are some cute moments when Allison travels to Ireland with Ethan and Liam, her father. It's also at this time that Howard provides us with some swoony moments between Allison and Ethan, although I was kind of hoping for more, I must admit. Anyhoo, things quickly turn serious again with some action and tension, before there's a bit of a cliffy.

I can't help but feel like the entire book was a bit rushed. I'm rather torn in that I'm happy I read "Stone of Destiny" but I still want more. That said, I'm looking forward to the next book in this series to find out what happens next!

Imagine a person so incredibly selfish she'd ruin lives just to possess the man she "loves." Welcome to the world of Aoife, a faerie intent on possessing Liam forever, slowly forcing Allison's mother, Elizabeth, farther into her schizophrenia as she keeps Allison's parents apart. And now, the risks are even greater as Aoife has escaped her binds, intent on finishing the O'Malley's forever, and claiming Liam as hers, wiping his memories and releasing the bind he has with Allison's mother.

There is always the question of who to trust in the world of the fae, and Allison has her work cut out for her as she attempts to figure out where Aoife is and who might be aiding her. With Ethan by her side, she has more to worry about than ever lest he be used against her--true for all those she loves in the series. I really enjoy both Allison and Ethan, and their budding romance is swoonworthy-cute. They are indeed my favorite characters in the series, and I hope to see much more of them as the series continues.

As with the fae, there are a lot of names that are hard to pronounce in this novel, but thankfully there is a guide for readers in the front of the book. I, personally, would have really enjoyed a description alongside the pronunciation guide in order to try and keep them all straight, because there are a ton of characters in this novel, and at times I got them confused with each other. The good news is, Howard is thinking of putting together just that on her blog, so make sure you stop over and see if its up before you go to read this awesome series!

Stone of Destiny is the second book in the Danaan series, and the books do need to be read in order as book two picks up soon after book one, The Forgotten Ones, ends. Luckily, both are short, fast-paced, awesome reads that you’ll really enjoy, so if you haven’t yet started the series, make sure you begin with The Forgotten Ones.

I've decided that the author of this book, Laura Howard, is a cool chick. I love when people can take the comments of others and have fun with it, and that is exactly what she did in this book. She is a classy, cool chick!

What the hell am I talking about? Well, I noticed that I was not the only one who complained about the insanely mind-numbingly difficult names in the first book. We are talking twenty characters with five syllable names that sound nothing like they are spelled with 20-30 vowels per word (no exaggeration). ;) So, how does Ms. Howard handle our whining? With a pronunciation guide at the beginning of the next book (instead of the end), but also with some wit as she had her own characters complain about their names:

Ethan, "These people have weird names."
Allison, "True,...I wish I had a cheat sheet most of the time."

Allison needs a copy of the pronunciation guide too. Except, I am guessing it is a whole lot easier for them since they are hearing the names instead of seeing the crazy spellings. How does Diarmuid spell Dermott?

Other than that, I am still enjoying the story which is ultimately about both humans and faeries fighting for love and freedom. I really hope good things for Aodhan.

Stone of Destiny was a great sequel. It picks up right where The Forgotten Ones left off. Aofie has escaped and wants to keep Allison's parents apart for good. And as much as Allison has tried to keep Ethan away from her world, that's just not going to happen.....Soon Allison and Co, realize that they have no choice but to travel to The Tuatha De Danaan and try to put a stop to whatever it is Aofie has planned.......

I enjoyed the pacing of Stone of Destiny. There was some really wonderful swoon worthy moments between Allison and Ethan. I think that Allison has grown a lot since the first book and I was happy to see how much more accepting/confident she was with her new life.

The last few chapters had me on the edge of my seat with great twists and surprises. You are still left with a lot of questions, which hopefully will be answered in the next book!

Stone of Destiny was very enjoyable. I didn't want it to end. I wouldn't really say that the book ended with a cliffhanger, but with more of a to be continued ending! I can't wait to see what will happen next!!!

Full Review at: What's Beyond Forks?

Stone of Destiny is the second book in the Danaan Trilogy by Laura Howard. You definitely need to read these books in order as there is much you need to know from book one before you can start book two. Especially since there are so many characters with very unique names.

I was expecting a little more within this story, because as far as the plot goes, I don't feel like we made very much progress from where the last book ended and where this one ended. Allison has really adapted to her new life quite well though. It suits her. She wants to learn about it all and takes responsibility for everything. I like how her relationship with Ethan is progressing. Ethan is pretty swoon-worthy this time around. We get to meet a few new characters too. I'm still not entirely sure what to think of them, but we'll see what happens in the upcoming books.

Stone of Destiny by Laura Howard was kindly provided to me by the author for review. The opinions are my own.

I loved this book! Magic runs wild in this story. I read the first book and this one in the same day! I could not put them down. The characters were great. The story line just sucked me right in. The main character was pretty great but she kept quiet about things I would have not been able to hold in. The relationship between Allison and Ethan is very sweet. I can not wait to see where this story goes.

things I know about Allison: she has a family she likes, she goes to school and work, and kinda? has a boyfriend

things I know about Ethan: he has a job, he likes Allison

literally, that's it. because not only is there absolutely no plot to this book, there's no characterization either. out MCs don't have personalities.

also one more time for those in the back: there's absolutely no plot. literally have no idea what the point of this book is.

Stone of Destiny by Laura Howard is book 2 in The Danaan Trilogy.

First of all, I want to say THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for putting a pronunciation guide in the beginning of the book. It was EXTREMELY helpful (even though I still pronounced some of them wrong, haha). I don't like when I have to stumble through words or names that I don't understand or can't pronounce because they're in a different language. So having the key in the front was awesome.

Second, I am just going to say that every time I see the words Tuatha de Danaan I just picture Liv Tyler as Arwen from Lord of the Rings saying them. It just sounds like something she'd say. Is that weird? Oh well. Too late now.

Ok, so book 2. Aoife has escaped the fey globe, Allison's mother is starting to write music again, Ethan hates Allison, and it looks like Allison is going to have to travel back to Tir na Nog.

Aoife has plans for Liam though. She wants to perform a binding ceremony to keep him away from Allison's mother and Allison is terrified to lose her mother (and now her father) forever. Deaghlan is intent on messing with people, it seems just to irritate Allison. He's the all powerful fairy king and can pretty much do whatever he wants to whomever he wants whenever he wants. Allison has to constantly remind herself not to look him in the eye or else she's entirely held captive in his gaze. Liam is tired and worn out and comes to find out he has ANOTHER daughter that's been more or less hidden from him and just wants to stop Aoife before she ruins him (and as a result everyone he loves) forever.

Allison seems to have adapted well to her knew knowledge of all things magical and fantastical in this book. She's torn, though, between the fairy world and being there for the people she loves in the... real?... world. She's a daughter completely dedicated to the well being of her mother and she does what she can to be considerate to the people around her. Except the Danaan are making it difficult for her. Deaghlan has made Ethan hate her. Aoife is trying to steal her father. And now she has a sister she never knew who thought she was hated by Allison and Liam.

Ethan does come around though, thanks to Niamh. And Allison FINALLY stops trying to save him from her life and her goings on with the Danaan and lets him decide for himself whether or not he wants to be a part of it. THANK YOU. SO much. Ethan is there for Allison every step of the way, like he should have been able to be from the beginning. Dangit Allison.

I loved that I got to see the relationship between Niamh and Aodhan. They are both fiercely loyal and protective of the people who they call friends and are doing everything that they can to make right what Aoife has obliterated. In our world and in Tir na Nog.

Allison's new sister was an interesting new addition. She was like Allison's complete opposite. From personality to the way she dressed to how she grew up and how much of the Danaan was in her. But, she also grew up never knowing her real father. Or her mother for that matter. Although her mother didn't go crazy. At least, not in the way Allison's did. And she's more Danaan than Allison. Since Aoife is her mother. She can read minds which I totally wish I could do sometimes. She definitely becomes an asset to the group at the end.

These books always end with a cliff hanger and I'm SOOOOO not patient. I want to know what happens NOW! I can't stand waiting. And it figures, it ends RIGHT when I didn't want it to. If you read the first book go grab this one and give it a go. You won't be disappointed. If you love all things Fairy and fantasy go grab it and give it a go. If you like Irish Mythology give it a go! This book will appeal to so many different types of readers it's hard to say no.

Reviewed on Lili Lost in a Book

Stone of Destiny picks up immediately after The Forgotten Ones . I was a little bit worried that there wouldn't be much of a refresher for the last book because, you know, sometimes that happens and it leaves me feeling all confused and stuff... Especially when it's been a while since I read the last book. But much to my happiness, Laura did a fantastic job highlighting the important events that lead us to book two. It made me very happy not feeling confused :)

Anyway, Aoife has escaped, as we know, but Allison will do anything to stop whatever craziness she is up to. All the while Allison is trying to keep Ethan out of all this magical craziness, but it's just not working. Ethan finds himself messed up in Aoife evil plans, which is just not cool.

I really loved this book! The writing is just beautiful and the story itself is interesting, keeping you hooked and making you want to know what will happen next! Now, I really like fast paced books with action from the start, but I think it was maybe too fast in this book. Not the action, the actual progression of the story. I mean, it felt like decisions were made out of nowhere and sometimes it felt like the scene changes were abrupt. And the whole thing with Ethan... he took things oddly well. I was expecting more of a reaction from him.

Speaking of Ethan, holy dimples do I love him! He is just the sweetest thing ever and I can't help but swoon every time he comes around, which was a lot in this book, luckily for me ;) One of my favorite parts about this book is actually the romance, and Ethan is why! I also love Allison, of course. She is very loyal and she stands up for herself and she is just a heroine you can sympathize with. And it doesn't hurt that she is also a book nerd and proud ;) And it was so nice to finally meet this Samantha person we heard about in The Forgotten Ones! I was very curious about her, but I wont give away too many details ;)

You guys know how much I love mythology and that I am always open to learning new things about it. And I gotta say that I just love the Irish mythology twist given in this book with the fairies and magic and all the stuff I didn't know about! And the descriptions of the fairy world were phenomenal! So amazingly vivid!

I cant wait to see how things end, but at the same times I don't want things to end. It's bittersweet. But I am honestly excited to see what happens with Aoife, Liam (!!), and Allison and Ethan. If you are looking for some romance in your books with a whole lot of magic, I highly recommend this series! It's such a great read!

4.5 stars!

Woah! I can't believe that it's been a few days shy of a year since I read the first book in this trilogy! The weird thing? I still remember what happened in it! I will admit that I did go back and re-read the last chapter of the first book to familiarize myself with it again, but the author does an amazing job at reminding you of everything that happened in the first book in this book, which is something I loved! The plot of this book continued straight on from where the first book stopped! It was all about the characters continuing their journey and about the main character learning more about the world she had been hidden from! I do have to say that there were still a lot of questions at the end of this book! None from the first book were really answered either! There's still one more book to come though, so I'm hoping all my questions will be answered! I did love the plot though and I also loved that there was some action in it too! The characters were again amazing and were developed so well! Allison was again the main character and in this book she knew what she was and she had started to learn how to use what she was to the best of her ability! I just loved Allison in this book! She was strong and she was determined to protect the people she cared about! She still had the same personality from the first book, but she was like a different person because she grew a lot! I loved everything about her in this book and I can't wait to see how she's going to develop in the next book! There was the glimmer of a love triangle in the first book and it sort of felt like it was still there at the beginning of this book, but then it sort of disappeared as Allison's relationship with one of the guys started to develop more! Just like the first book, the love triangle was between Allison, Ethan and Aodhan! I would have loved to have the love triangle be a major part of the plot, but I did love that Allison didn't play the guys against each other! Ethan was the main love interest of Allison and I did love him! I had such a soft spot for Aodhan though, but he wasn't in this book a lot! There were quite a few secondary characters in this book too! Some of them were from the first book, but there were a few new characters introduced too! All these characters added so much to the plot and I hope they make appearances in the next book! I'm so excited to read the last book in this trilogy! I can't wait to see how it's all going to end and what's going to happen! The ending of this book was a bit sudden though, which I wasn't expecting! It was almost like it ended mid-way through a conversation! The cover for this book is stunning! Absolutely stunning! I love how well it suits the first book's cover too! Big thank you to Laura for an ARC of Stone of Destiny and to Lady Amber's Tours for having me on the Blog Tour!

One of my favorite fae series of 2013 was The Forgotten Ones by Laura Howard (my review). I became enthralled by the author's vivid realms of human and fae, and especially enjoyed her foray into Gaelic/Scottish mythology of the Tuatha de Danaan and tir na n'Og to create something new and refreshing. Allison's discovery of her fey father, Liam, was so realistically portrayed I became easily hooked. By the end of this twenty year old's adventure, I had also become a fan of the author.

In book two, Stone of Destiny, we are thrust right back into Allison's troubles and dramatic situations. The drama increases having her father living next door and seeing all of the fey who visit him. Things intensify as readers wonder what is going on with Aiofe and her continuing plans to keep her past lover, Liam, away from Allison's mom and his true love. I became enchanted by so much of Stone of Destiny. Allison's off again/on again relationship with Ethan, discoveries about her father' past she meets literally in person while dress shopping with best friend Nicole, dealing with a sadistic joker fey king and learning about the book's title stone.

Again, author Laura Howard submerges her readers in rich details about the fey world while peppering both the human and fantasy worlds with an assortment of interesting and varied characters. There's a pronunciation guide in the beginning of the book to help readers as they meet favorite recurring characters or make new ones. The slower pace at the beginning of the story helped me get back into Allison's world with ease to find out how life is now that Liam is so close. Just like a roller coaster begins its climb, so did this novel. The amount of questions I had from the first book did multiply this time around so I'm expecting an awesome final book.

As for the characters, Allison continues to impress me with her growth and surprised me by standing up to the fey king about Ethan. I loved her independent streak. Simple things like not asking someone for help changing a tire but doing it on her own (even if she's late for work) says so much about the woman she is becoming. I also liked the addition of Samantha and the stone. I can't say more but I am so looking forward to seeing how this trilogy ends with book three. If stories about the fey grab you, the first two books in The Danaan trilogy, The Forgotten Ones and Stone of Destiny, are must haves. (blog tour: http://www.readergirlsblog.com/2014/0...)

If you read the first book, The Forgotten Ones, you would know that you HAVE to read this book. Answers are still left unsaid in Book one and there has to be a way that Allison's Mom can get better. That She can smile that smile Allison holds dear in her memories and to have her father and mother finally be together again. But there is one person that stands in the way still; Aoife.

Within the first chapter we are thrown into the drama of it all and there is no time wasted on playing with our emotions. Allison finally realizing that life is too short to be selfless and that she deserves her own happiness that she sees what she needs to do. But she has pushed away the one she loves so many times it may be too late to get him back. I was immediately stabbed in the heart with the way Ethan was acting and there was so much Allison was struggling with. Again, the girl can't get a break!

Some light came to the vague conversations in the past and clarification to Allison's dreams, but there still seem to be some unknown that I was dying to find out. Liam seemed more lost than ever in this book as well. His purpose strong but with so much going on he seemed to be needing a push in the right direction and losing bits of himself here and there. I really wanted to hug the poor guy and make him forget about his problems. I also missed Aodhan in this book, but while he was off on his own agenda I had Ethan to entertain me. Plus, I found myself getting irritated at some of the behaviors of the King! I wanted to hate him for his games but GOD he was hot the way he would try to be so seductive. Emotions were every which way in this book!!

There are still so many twists that when you think the answer is near another bump in the road appears out of nowhere and once again they have to find their way around it. But as they keep getting jerked around there seems to be only one way and it made me nervous that such actions were needed because of the consequences they could hold.

I can not wait to read book 3!

4.5 *WINK* READ

Stone of Destiny is Laura Howard's second fantasy novel about the Danaan, a surviving Fae clan. I find the author's writing style fluid and her descriptions, particularly of characters, vividly descriptive.
As with The Forgotten Ones, the Danaan is an originally created race, setting this series apart from other books about the Fae. Deghlan and Saorise are the King and Queen of Tir na n'Og, distinguished from other members of their race by their unbelievable beauty, arrogance and powers. Neither are particularly trustworthy, especially the temperamental King, who finds it humourous to use his techniques of seduction on Allison.
Throughout the story I had a difficult time believing that Allison is twenty-three because I felt her dramatic behaviours and angst make her seem less mature. But she also has a strong sense of duty and wants to protect those close to her and she never refuses the chance for an adventure!
At the beginning of Stone of Destiny Laura Howard concisely recalls key details from The Forgotten Ones, helping us to acclimatize, but the story develops at a slower rate than I expected and the object referred to in the title is not identified until 73% into the novel. However, the way in which Laura Howard takes her time with her writing pays off in the latter stages when the action is at its most exciting; we do not have to question the identities or motives of the characters.
I really like the fact that at the story's ending we are left wanting answers to questions and willing the release of A Place Beyond.
I recommend Stone of Destiny because it will satisfy readers who enjoy romance and if you listen closely the Danaan call us from Laura Howard's pages to enter their fantastical world.
I received this as a complimentary review copy, but this has had no influence on my opinion.

Stone of Destiny by Laura Howard is book two of the Danaan Trilogy and picks up right where book one left off, like literally with the next sentence after the cliffhanger. Allison now knows that she must destroy Aoife's amulet if there is any hope of her mother recovering. At the same time, she tries unsuccessfully to push Ethan away, to protect him. But at the end of book one, Deaghlan erases Ethan's memories of the Tuatha de Danaan, and Ethan seems to resent Allison. Did Deaghlan do more than just erase Ethan's memories?

As with book one, I love these characters! Allison is still the strong, independent character she was in book one, however she is learning in this book that she can't do everything alone. Sometimes she has to trust and rely on others. Enter Ethan :) I seriously love this guy! He is the perfect book boyfriend. He's known Allison all his life, he likes her a lot, and he seems to know just the right thing to say and when. Basically when Allison tells him everything (and I do mean everything) about Liam and her heritage, he doesn't run for the hills. Nope he tells her "Whatever you're planning to do to help your parents, I want to be there."

The plot of this story is fast moving and really a page turner (I read it in one sitting!). It's a race against time as Allison, Ethan, and Liam must find Aoife and figure out what she is planning. I won't spoil it because it needs to be read and enjoyed :)

Overall I loved this book and am anxiously waiting for the final installment! Be warned there is a semi-cliffhanger and yes I shed some tears as well. If you enjoy fantasy, fairy lore, action, suspense, and a little romance, I highly recommend you check out this series.

Having read and reviewed Ms. Howards first book in this trilogy, The Forgotten Ones, I was curious to see where she was taking the readers with her story. I was not only happy about the path she chose, but I liked the way she reiterated some of the first book to help get things moving. It has been a little while since I read the first book, so it really helped me get back into the storyline. The way she did it didn't take away from the story in the least bit, which can be tricky at times.

This book is an example of not only the story getting better, but the story teller maturing a bit with her writing and letting her characters guide her. This created a much more well rounded identity to each character which in turn really let the story flow and take on a life of its own. The mystery and intrigue know coming front and center and the world of the Danaan weaving in intricate layers. Once you think you know what's going on, something makes you think twice.

Allison, a heart bigger than any other, finds that there are even more questions than answers still. She has evolved since the first book in confidence, knowledge, relationships and more. Having done so, I felt a bigger draw to her and really began rallying for her. All the characters have evolved a bit, making for a stronger story, more convincing relationships and creating an over all great read.

I recommend this book to everyone who has read the first one, because again, it's even better and you won't be disappointed. I recommend this trilogy to anyone who enjoys fantasy and the world of fae and magical forces. Readers 13+ will enjoy this book and with the twists, especially at the end, will be recommending this book to their friends. Personally, I can't wait for the final book!

Book Review-Stone of Destiny by Laura Howard

Allison is trying to find a way to help her mother. She has been diagnosed with Schizophrenia but in reality she has an addiction to the Danaan of Fae. Her father to be more precise. Her father was human but coveted by Aoife, a Danaan. She placed a spell to keep Allison’s mother and father apart.
Liam, Allison’s father, has learned of her existence and moved to the human realm to be near his daughter and the love of his life. His abilities, like the Danaan, developed while in Tir Na N’ `Og. Aoife is trying to stop Liam by binding him to her.
Liam, Allison and her boyfriend Ethan are racing against time to stop her. They travel to Tir Na N’ `Og to see the queen and form a plan. Halloween night is the targeted time they have to stop Aoife. Saving her father is the only option Allison has. She needs him to save her mother.
This book is part of a series. Allison has already been introduced to the Danaan and fought Aoife. She had to save Ethan. That is referenced in this book. I would definitely read the previous book so you know everything before reading this one.
The storyline for this book was interesting. I like how Allison remains intertwined in the Danaan world. She doesn’t have a lot of control. She is ready to take some back. It’s a great paranormal story sprinkled with romance, lost loves, and crazy members of the Fae. Allison has to outwit an evil Danaan and take back her life. The story continues in the next book as this one leaves the reader hanging. A battle Royale against Aoife is what Allison seems to be planning. It was a quick read, full of suspense and trickery. I give it a 3 out of 5.

Allison O’Malley’s life changed when her father, a man she had seen all her life, suddenly showed up at her doorstep bringing with him the world of Tuatha de Danaan (Faries) and the answer as to why her mother is suffering from schizophrenia. Teaming up with magical people Allison is in the race against the clock to unravel Aoife’s plot before anyone else is hurt.

In this book it picks up right where we left off in the second, so if you haven’t read it STOP RIGHT NOW!! You need to go back and enjoy the first one to truly understand to the fullest what is going on.

Ethan, a guy who Allison deeply cares for, is acting funny and it may be a person closer to home who is the culprit. And what do you mean Allison has a half-sister?! Who can be trusted as new characters step into Allison’s world forcing Liam and the gang to act faster, but is it a trap and how the heck are they going to survive this?

Yep, I was biting my nails to figure out what was going on. I stayed rooted in my chair until I no longer had feeling in my bum for this book and let me tell you it was worth it! Every agonizing, story building, fun, and plot developing second was well worth the wait.

The world that Laura Howard has created is fun, captivating, and darn it all, makes me want to join the Tuatha de Danaan. With characters that will leave you irritated, awed, and loved I can’t possibly imagine what she will do next to them and to us, the readers. But one thing is for certain, I’ll be in line for book three in this series to find out!

Thanks to Netgalley and Indie Inked for giving me this book to review.

Allison has realised how she feels about Ethan, the guy she has really liked for years, but he is acting strangely and being really mean towards her since coming back from Tautha de Danaan. Aoife is free and is willing to do anything to get Allison’s father, Liam, to love her, even by hurting Allison and her mother. Allison is trying to unravel Aoife plans but she discoves that Aoife has got a secret that she has been keeping for years. With Allison willing to anything to destroy amulet that keeps Liam from healing and being with her mother but with the Danaan not being human can she trust any of them.

Stone of Destiny is the good second book in the Danaan trilogy and I felt the story was better and more interesting than the first book. I felt in this book we got to know the characters better and there was more romance, although the book’s pacing was a bit too fast for me.

I liked Allison better in this book as she is more confident and thinks more about what she wants to do. I also liked Ethan more as we got to know him better and I liked the way he treated Allison, as he was protective without being controlling.

This ends on a bit of a cliff-hanger and I cannot wait to see what happens in the next book. I would recommend Stone of Destiny to people who enjoyed reading The Forgotten Ones

Perfect follow up to "The Forgotten Ones"

UPDATE:

Firstly I would like to thank Laura for kindly providing me with a copy of "Stone Of Destiny" to read and review for the blog tour <3 Big HUGS"!

It seems that I've waited forever since reading The Forgotten Ones for this to come out, and yet I devour it within hours....I must have it bad...

Howard has a way in creating such beautiful yet delicate scenery, I love the world she has created and I could not stop reading this book until I finished...BUT now I need and crave for more.

Howard's writing made you feel like you were in that world, like were actually living in Tír na n’Óg

Allison's character seems to have grown, more mature, more understanding and able to take in all that she learns of her heritage, her history, her bloodline.

I mean it's not everyday you grow up not knowing your father and then out of the blue he pops up and you have magical blood within you from a completely different realm.....this is some serious action.!

We see the Allison continuing on her goal to fight against Aoife, there are many twists, turns and of course surprises in this story making you on edge, the anticipation building as you await the outcome.

I can't wait to see what will happen next!!!

More of my reviews can be read on my blog Reviews For The Living And The Undead . Feel free to follow me. I love when people follow my blog.

Netgalley gave me this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!

Allison has already found out so many things that she didn't think could ever be true, but it is just beginning. Now she must continue to try and find a way so her mother and father can be together and so her mother will be okay. She also is determined to find out why the boy that she can't help but like suddenly seems to hate everything about her.

This wasn't a bad novel at all. I didn't know that it was the second in the series and if I did then I wouldn't have requested it. However, despite that, it wasn't that hard to understand what was going on. I'm sure that it would have been even better though if I had read the first one.

Anyway, I really liked how the fae were in this novel. I liked how they didn't act like humans and had emotions that were very different from them. Even though there is a love story in this novel, it also doesn't take over and is just part of it. I found the romance to be kind of sweet and nice actually.

Overall I would give this book four out of five.
