San Francisco is one of my favorite places and the setting for most of my mystery/thrillers. It's diverse, exciting, and easy for a killer to move around!

NEWEST RELEASE: ONE BAD THING: 3rd in the Doucette mystery series. A body has washed ashore. As Homicide investigator Doucette hunts for evidence, he finds several suspects who all had motive and opportunity.

THE BLACKEST NIGHT: a paranormal mystery set in San Francisco and the 3rd in the Jackson series. When a wrongful conviction is overturned and an innocent man is set free, he believes his darkest days are behind him, until the night he is attacked in an alleyway.

STONE COLD: a psychological thriller. The mysterious deaths of three high-flying corporate executives stun the Oxfordshire community.
(Stone Cold is set in the beautiful English Cotswolds).

HIDE AND SEEK: Suspense: A private party takes a chilling turn when a guest disappears.

Bestselling psychological thriller, MADNESS AND MURDER: homicide cop Mac Jackson is on a collision path with a civilian in his hunt for a killer.

NO ALIBI: Suspense: Isabelle Kingsley never thought her husband would cheat; he never thought she would find out.

I received a free download of "The Blackest Night" (Jackson Mystery Series Vol. 3) from the author, Jenny Hilborne in exchange for an honest review. This is a mystery suspense thriller with a touch of paranormal. I have to admit being an avid reader of mystery suspense psychological thrillers, I was a little bit leery of mixing mystery suspense with paranormal, that it would take away from the mystery...but this was not the case, as there was just a touch of the paranormal. In this case it worked well. This is a stand-alone novel that will have you gripped from beginning to end. A puzzle with so many clues.

William Law went to prison for a murder of a local bartender, an ex-con who had been exonerated. He served seven years before he was acquitted and released. During that time he had lost his wife...his house...his life and freedom. That was six years ago. The bartender's boyfriend set him up. Now outside,William lived on the streets of San Francisco with everything he owned in his knapsack.Still mentally and physically scarred, he is attacked in a dark alleyway. But Why is someone after him? Who? He must defend himself.

Meanwhile, in another part of the city, San Francisco Homicide Inspector,Mac Jackson is investigating a missing teenager, possible murder investigation when her bloodstained sweater was found. Mac suspects the teenager, Harlow McGrath, from a rich family is dead. Homicide inspector Mac Jackson is leading the inquiries. With no contact, no ransom demand, no calls and no new leads, his case soon grows cold. Then Jackson receives an anonymous phone call, with new information on the case. And when Jackson follows up on this new lead, he uncovers traits and clues that links one crime to another, or one incident to another...a stabbing and an assault. One man is scrambling to stay alive...while another man is seeking the truth. For Mac the clock was ticking...he needed to solve these mysteries.

The short chapter format briskly moves the story along. The characters are well-written, engaging and very real. I loved Mac's laid back mannerisms and felt sorry for William's struggles and dark past.

A very enjoyable read.

The Blackest Night is my favorite book by Jenny Hilborne so far. This is psychological suspense at its best, along with mystery and a sprinkling of paranormal.

One of the things I love about this series is that, while the series belongs to Mac Jackson, he doesn't steal the limelight. His role as detective is often secondary to the new main character's story. This keeps each book fresh and exciting.

William Law is a captivating character. I felt his fear and his defiance, his frustration and his hope. While the action propels this story forward, the characters keep us wanting more.

Because Mac Jackson's personal life is not the focus of this series, each can be read as a stand-alone. This is definitely a title I recommend to anyone who wants to get lost in a great suspense story.

Great Read

It does take twenty words to describe this book when only two words describe it accurately and not anymore needed

Jenny Hilborne. Mac Jackson.
The Blackest Night.
William Law had been wrongly convicted for a crime he never committed. So when he got pardoned and released after 7 years he thought all the bad stuff was behind him, think again. William gets attacked in an alley way and this puts a whole new slant on his life. Detective Mac Jackson is left trying to put this puzzle together along with that of a missing teenage girl. This book will keep your attention all the way until the end. The author has a knack of describing the characters very well, and you would think that you were part of the book. This book is a great addition to the Mac Jackson series. Highly recommended book to read.

I probably could have written part of this review before I even started reading, because Jenny Hilborne never disappoints and I've loved all of her books to-date. The Blackest Night is no exception. What's interesting about this story is the switching of POV's between the two main protags. One, a downtrodden, victimized man who has stumbled into a huge mess and spends most of the book trying to escape it, and two, a detective doggedly trying to solve two potential homicides. The tension rarely lets up and even though I am an excruciatingly slow reader, I had trouble stopping to sleep each night. The pace builds steadily toward a surprising, sad but satisfying end. Hilborne definitely has another winner here!

I bought and read this book on my Kindle.

Lots of twists and turns

It is easy to spend lots of time during the reading of this novel trying to figure out what in the Sam Hill is going on and why. But it comes together rather nicely towards the end. I didn't read the first two books in the series and don't believe that is much of a problem. Good book for those who like a mystery.

The Blackest Night

This really was not a very good mystery book . I read the other books in this series and I really did not enjoy them either. There was not enough suspense for me. This is not a series I would recommend if you really enjoy a good mystery.

Readable, have read better and have read worse.

Okay book,... Slow at times as far as keeping my interest, but I'll probably read other books by this writer.

The Blackest Night

Not what I was expecting. I truly felt for the main character but also didn't like that he wouldn't turn to police.

A real thrill ride.

This makes you think how easily people can be pulled in. Dedication of good police work. A page turner. Finished this in two days.
