Betrayed by an Alpha claimed by a Lycan King

Rate this book
Ava Brooks has spent her entire life hidden in the shadows, an orphaned omega in a pack that loathed her. Her heart carries the weight of scars from a past too painful to forget. All she’s ever wanted is to find a place where she belongs, to escape the cruelty of her old pack and start anew. But destiny has other ideas. While seeking refuge, she unknowingly wanders into the territory of the Dark Crescent Pack, ruled by the dangerously captivating Alpha, Matteo Devereaux.

Matteo is a name whispered in fear throughout the werewolf realm. A merciless leader, a Lycan without a mate, and a man who commands absolute power. But the moment his cold, piercing blue eyes—flecked with gold—lock onto Ava, something deep and primal stirs inside him. She’s the last thing he ever wanted—a distraction, a vulnerability. Yet, the mate bond that flares between them is undeniable, fiery, and impossible to resist.

As passion and danger collide, Ava is thrust into a battle not only for her freedom but for her heart. Matteo’s past is as shadowed as his name suggests, and the hidden secrets within his pack threaten to pull them apart. With enemies lurking at every turn and betrayal just around the corner, Ava must face the truth about her own origins, her strength, and the intense love that binds her to the Alpha of the Dark Crescent Pack.

In a world where power reigns supreme, the question remains—can love truly be their salvation?

I did but expect great things.
I saw an ad on IG for this title while on vacation & thought “why not? A 200 page book poolside is perfect.” This story was nothing like the story in the ad (which didn’t seem like a 5-star either so no big deal).

The story is nothing original (which is not unusual for the genre) but the pace just felt off. When you finally get used to the flow of the story it picks up in an odd way. Even when I could tell I was at the climax of a situation I never got that feeling from the reading.

I’m also a reader that gets easily distracted by some writing errors and I noticed that there were many instances of discrepancies between characters’ names. It seems like the author had different names at the start of the writing process and settled on others.

Not sure if this is the final product but if it’s still a WIP I’d say it has decent bones to be an ok story.

Bad pacing

The book was okay for a free read; I guess? It was paced badly, full of plot holes. I never knew when they were having sex. And the constant deep detail about the Alphas heterochromia drove.me.INSANE. I barely found a few descriptors of Ava, it was always about the Lycan Alpha's mismatched eyes. Yes I get it, author, you have a thing for heterochromatic males! Jesus fuck.

If someone threw Twilight, a werewolf rofan, and ChatGPT into a blender, this would be the outcome.

If someone threw Twilight, a werewolf rofan, and ChatGPT into a blender, this would be the outcome.

The pacing is really off.
There's no real antagonist to the book, only for the sole one to be dispatched within 1 chapter.
There are chunks of paragraphs practically lifted from Stephanie Meyers' Breaking Dawn's pages.
Other times, it felt like pages were missing as you'd scratch your head trying to figure out how it jumped from one topic or scene to the next.
The characters and their wolves keep switching names throughout.
Lack of continuity with characters' personalities and traits.

Overall, I am very dissatisfied with this book.
Will not be reading the sequel.

I mean it was okay, I finished it on my Kindle in about 2hrs.
I feel like this story line had so much potential but the writing felt rushed and juvenile, the switches the characters made were too drastic at the moment and just didn't feel amazingly developed.
There were a few contradictions in the book in terms of character looks and shifting. One in particular that made me read the page over and over was after Ava/Kaya destroyed the house after being unable to take not having children, she shifted and was found by Matteo they spent the night in the woods and once they got back home they go upstairs to have a shower and we are told he takes off her shirt..... She was shifted... WHEN did she put on a shirt???

Another big gripe I have was the amount of times we heard about Matteo's eyes, don't get me wrong I bet there beautiful, but I don't need a full description of him Everytime they see each other. We know from the start he's 6"3, black hair, MASSIVE, tattoos, heterochromia and is a Lycan... That's it please no more

Honestly it's not a massive thing but just kinda annoyed me.
All in all it was an okay Read, I've read more intriguing wolf shifter romances and this could have been an amazing book if it was paced a little slower and had more character development!

The one thing I loved about this book was that the FMC didnt take any 💩 and i expected her to keep being a strong character but she just kept staying when he treat her like dirt and when she found a woman in his house not just once but twice. I get that nothing happened (as we find out later) but it wanted her to leave and for him to realise what a d!ck he is but she just kept living in his house and swooning over him.

There was zero storyline for why he was sometimes rejecting her (but then pulling her away from other men? other than hes a moron so the whole thing just got boring and repetative.

Sooooo...The beginning I was ok with even though there was no description of his world or her world or explanations of the world around them. Had a strong FL. She wasn't takin' no shi....crap from anybody including the Alpha ML. His backstory ranges from non-existent to vague as is hers. There's so much vague vague vagu-itude going on. What kinda shifter world were we reading about? I could deal with anything you actually tell me about so I can understand what's going on better and Shia LeBeouf musta been around cuz there were mad mad plot holes. Watch your step. Don't wanna suddenly twist an ankle. There was this one part where he talked about not being about to link with her. In every shifter world I've ever read, you can only link with those in your pack...which she wasn't, those mated to you...which she wasn't, and some stories all you had to be was an Alpha and you could link with any shifter regardless, buuuuuuuut who knows what's going on because the author doesn't explain or give any descriptions or background. The story was all over the place. She loses her memories, but she says the last thing she remembered was being at a bus stop or something like that. Which means she should remember her life before. Even songs she's heard before she met him so why does remembering a song she should have already known be surprising. If she didn't know the song prior to knowing them, then please, divulge. It's not a secret. Or is it? And who are Dante and Venus, you ask? ME TOO! God, like minds are awesome! They just randomly call each other that or yell it out like Tourette's.

I didn't finish this. I got kinda confused and when I get confused, I get bored. I have a pretty good imagination. So when my imagination is like "Wait. What? Who? When the hell...?", it's time to bounce. Sorry. I hope this is a rough draft. I would love to know how this ends but I just can't this go 'round.

Love it!

So sweet! I enjoyed this book. It’s been awhile since I read a book that made me actually tear up. While I enjoy first person POV in paranormal books, lately, it seems that most of the books I find are too much. I understand the concept of needing to express/explain a strong emotion/desire. Other books have started to be too descriptively long that the feeling they were trying to convey is less admired. But this book, gave me just the right description without making me want to roll my eyes. Some books have a mild story that an author tries to make it seem intense, and then creates the most intense and descriptive sex scenes that doesn’t match feelings of the story as a whole. So this book gets a full five stars (10 stars if it was an option) because the characters were so intense, their emotions so raw, I could see it, the plot was not overly dramatized, and the sex was so mildly descriptive that made me yearn for more. I didn’t feel like I was reading porn, I felt like I was reading an actual love story.

NEEDS WORK!!!!

Plot: 3/5 stars
Spice: ZERO

The overall plot and story were good.

The execution needs some work, and an editor to read it and fix some issues.

Names kept changing, which makes one think that it was stolen off of Wattpad or another novel site and all the names were Ctrl + F and changed, but you missed a bunch that weren’t exact matches.

Intimate scenes gave an illusion that they’d be good, but there was NO HEAT, no description.

Basically the whole thing reads as an outline. It’s frustrating, but I finished it because I wanted to know what happened to the characters, but I skimmed over half the book as a lot of the actual descriptions were repetitive.

All in all, the storyline is great… a nice fast paced read but it needs some detail added and explanation during any battle scenes etc…

Like I said, it reads like a rough draft outline of a novel.

Ok plot. So many inconsistencies!!!

While the plot was ok, the characters were annoying and there were way too many inconsistencies throughout the entire book to properly enjoy it. It was very frustrating. I couldn't stand Matteo for most of the book and Ryan's outburst was totally out of character, especially around his mate in that condition! (No spoilers!) Also, why so many different names? I get that their wolves had their own names, but who is Sophia, Dante, D-Matteo, Venus, etc?? Why no explanations for these different names? It made it so confusing! While I did finish it (because I ain't no quitter, lol) I will unfortunately not be re-reading it.

Nice little story. It moved quickly. The Characters you can't help but feel close to. There was quite a bit of issues that were taken care of with the pack and Ava and Matteo. The spice level was pretty low. No heaving, throbbing and all that. Just the hint of what they did and that's it. There were a few things I believe that could have been added bonuses to the story, for example the bimbo Brianna. She showed up in a couple chapters and that was it. The issue with Matteo's father could have been more. All in all the story was a good read.

Good

I like this book. I'll admit the other reviewer was correct The frequent wrong names like Sophia and Venus were confusing and Voss I kept thinking who's Sophia who the heck is Voss I even tried to use translate cuz I thought they were using a different language so that was a little bit annoying. I do think it could have been flushed out a little bit more, but for what it was it was good.

Decent read…..

However, way too many mistakes in the book. Names were not correct, the time lines were off. For instance, Ava was lying in the bed but two paragraph later Matteo is helping her back to bed. Things like this happened all through the book. I ended up skipping chapters and just skimming the last few.
Great story line, but this author needs a better person double checking her book.

7 Wows ~ what a love story. Tears, laughs and fears make a HEA book.

This is a heart warming story of 3 couples that are perfect for each other. You feel as the characters are a life with human emotions that are double because they are shifters who feel deeper emotions. Bravo. I loved the book. Thanks Audrey Ashforth ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

Felt like the story skipped key details. Also felt rushed. I had to reread a lot because I thought I missed something and the story was muddled. Also I got confused when character names were wrong. For instance Ava was called Venus a couple times and no it wasn’t her wolf’s name. Or Chloe was called Sophie a couple times.

Short books deserve Stars too

This short story was interesting and intense and certain moments I wish they would have gotten more of a background on each main characters as life so we get better understand their time together but all together it was a good story I deserve five stars for a short book

book needs a lot work

I just want to say this book can be very good but it needs to go back to editors table. I say this, bc they switched names around and its story line is too jumpy. The rhythm of the book is off. Great first draft but it needs to go to be more refined, it would be a great fan fiction but not a published piece.

holy crap what a story . Loved the way it started. The Lycan Alpha, Matteo Devereaux. HOT HOT HOT..poor Ava had to put up with his bullshit and Brianna. Once he got his head out of ass he became the man she needed. Her friends and his Beta and Gamma new she was his. Story kept me captivated I did not not to put it down read it in one night... A+++

The story itself has potential but it's giving first draft. I don't mind fast paced but this gave me a whiplash. Things are just happening with no explanation, the most descriptive part of the book was the prologue, then it went downhill.

Another two hunded pages of context and a good editor; the book would be good.

unprofessional writer

The story broken down in unmatched parts, characters image doesn’t match psychological image and events and actions have unrealistic outcomes, lacking magic which obviously should be doing all the tricks for supernatural survival.

that was rough.

So many plot holes that we never explained. Poor syntax. Poor structure. Names for the characters are consistently different. This book needs an over haul. It has the potential to be a decent read if it was actually edited and fixed.

Cute romance but no depth

No explanation or talks about her fears. What happened to his dad? Why was he alive? It just didn't go into anything but their relationship. The storyline grew boring.

True love

The part of the story I disliked was when Ava was kidnapped and tortured by Matteo 's father. At first Mattel did not want a mate but his Lucas wanted his mate. After being around his mate he realized she was what he needed.
