Ok. I’ll admit it. It was hard for me to read this book. It was even harder for me to like it. You see, I recently wrote and published a book on tapping and weight loss too. I was feeling pretty defensive and believed that the release of this book would have a negative impact on my book. So what did I do? I started tapping. That’s really the whole point of both Jessica’s book and my book. Start tapping.

Once I had tapped enough to feel comfortable that there is room enough in this world for two books on tapping and weight loss, I dove in. You might even say that I devoured it. It is written in the same charismatic style that all of the materials from The Tapping Solution possess. It would be hard to resist smiling at the all-too-honest accounts of self doubt, overindulgence (food and guilt), and insecurity that Jessica shares. I could relate.

The tapping examples were fantastic, although I would have preferred a few more. The book design and page layout are enviable. The quotes were inspirational and the stories of real women and their struggles were motivational. If there are any negatives (and I am not sure that there are) one would be the title. There are so many words on the cover that it was difficult to know what the title really was without turning to the copyright page. Also, the topic of self-sabotage or psychological reversal was not highlighted as much as I might have expected given the type of challenge being addressed.

Will I read it again? Yes. Will I recommend it to others? Absolutely. The book is attractive, informative, inspirational, and potentially life-changing.

I can't tell you how much this book changed my life. At the end of the book, there's a final tapping meditation to complete and, as I was tapping through it, I was crying with happiness and love for myself. I'd been obese almost my whole life, losing 70-90 pounds off and on for at least 20 years. Finally, I'm at a healthy weight, but it's mainly due to EFT tapping with The Tapping Solution and Nick & Jessica's books/meditations/apps (along with a whole food, plant based diet with no salt, sugar or oil). I'd been able to lose weight in the past, but not keep it off. As soon as I was done "dieting", I was hoping to feel better about myself, my body and my life. And I *never* was. I didn't realize that I'd been hating my body for so long and I never took care of it. Never loved it or treated it well. Jessica's book and meditations have helped me to work through past limiting beliefs, stresses and triggers in order to learn to feel good (and not guilty) about taking care of myself. Her warm, friendly and caring words are like support and advice from a lifetime friend that you trust. I looked forward to reading a chapter and tapping every single day. If you have had a similar experience to mine, I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend reading her book. You won't regret it - you'll be so incredibly happy that you took the time to learn to love yourself and your body.

A friend who is a psychologist told me that she focuses on tapping in her work, which sparked my interest. This was the only book on tapping available at my library, and hence it ended up in my stack. The explanations of how to tap are sound, although a chapter or two is spent on information that can quickly be found on the internet, and read within a few minutes. More information on the science behind tapping would have been highly welcomed. Instead, the author focused on repeated examples of the same story with different names (a patient who had no idea why she was overweight and unhappy began tapping and with a short time of paying to be in my class lost a lot of weight in a short time without any deprivation!). In addition, there are only so many ways one can approach the discussion of losing weight before the book began to be repetitive, which definitely showed up in the summary scripts that showed up in multiple places in the book.

This is unfortunate as I believe that tapping is a sound concept that belongs in any one's arsenal. However, other publications get to the heart of the matter more directly, and without so many references to wares for sale. I read the book in hard cover which made it easy to simply jump ahead.

In addition, one can not help but note the fact that there are an enormous number of reviewers with exactly the same names and the same star ratings, sans any comments at all, repeated over and over again soon after publication. I wish authors did not play these games in order to push up their reviews.

TCL Call#: 613 Ortner J

Madeleine - 1 stars
Completely derivative of her brother's book and less successfully so. Her explanations of how the process should be done are lacking and she has no scientific reference like her brother's book. It's like they decided she could put a "chick spin" on the subject and spoon feed it to "ladies". Ugh. And sigh.
TCL currently does not have the brother's book The Tapping Solution (as of 12/9/2014) so you'll need to ILL it. He also has a DVD by the same name. I started with the DVD which followed 10 totally different people with totally different complaints through the process so you could see how it worked. I like the DVD as I'm a visual learner so it was a good introduction for me and there's a section/chapter dedicated solely to explaining the process and how to duplicate on your own.. I then followed with the book just to get more details and the scientific notation of studies.
I admit that I feel silly doing this - I loathe anything that requires verbal affirmations - but as a life long sufferer of panic disorder I have a rule that I must at least try anything new that comes along. I do have to say after 1 week of tapping I feel less panic so . . .

This book was picked up during a browsing session at my library. I remember reading an article one time about tapping but other than that I didn’t know much/anything about it. That being said, my life long quest to control my weight made the subject matter interesting. WOW - I was amazed. Do I feel a little silly doing my tapping exercises? Yes. Do I feel better by doing them? Yes. Have I lost weight, maybe, but the numbers on a scale are less import than realizing why I react to food the way I do rather than just losing weight. If you can keep an open mind try tapping. As my husband and I now joke “tap tap.”

Great book - almost gave it five stars. I couldn’t find a tapping book for men, so I read this. One chapter I skipped over - “Feeling Confident in your Feminine Body” - otherwise, I could relate to everything pretty well. I tap every day, this book helped me get ideas for applying my daily ritual to help with weight loss as well. Well written and I think a great read no matter your gender.

The Tapping Solution
For Weight Loss and Body Confidence- A woman’s guide to stressing less, weighing less, and loving more.
By Jessica Ortner
1st Edition May 2014
ISBN 978-1- 4019- 4511- 4

The Tapping Solution -for weight loss and body confidence is written by Jessica Ortner. Jessica is a co-producer of the breakthrough documentary film on EFT / Meridian Tapping, “The Tapping Solution.” For the past eight years, Jessica has traveled the world working with and training under many of the leaders in the field of personal development. She is trained as an NLP Master Practitioner and is certified in hypnosis. Her book “The Tapping Solution- for weight loss and body confidence” is in its 1st edition and available May 2014.

The Tapping Solution- for weight loss and body confidence is focused on finding solutions for women to deal with, and eliminate, their stress around weight and body image. With the use of EFT Tapping (Emotional Freedom Technique) which is an energy based technique similar to acupuncture but without the use of needles, The Tapping Solution guides the reader to take a closer look at their beliefs around weight and their body image.

Jessica Ortner wanted to share her story because she knew that what she has to share in “The Tapping Solution” is not what you will typically find in standard weight loss books. It is her intention to take women through a process of self-discovery and exploration.
The subject matter is more about our thoughts and belief around the subject of weight loss and body image than a call to diet.
The book awakens the reader to an understanding of how our personal limiting beliefs are at the core of poor body image and body weight.

The Tapping Solution is geared to bring women to a place of empowering themselves, to release the stressors that can keep you from making better choices and eradicate the self-sabotaging behaviors that have kept us for attaining our weight loss goals. It is about attaining a feeling self-care and love of self.

In “The Tapping Solution” Jessica is able to express her personal finding of how stress affects the body and how the release of cortisol has the ability to sabotage our efforts to attain a healthy body weight. It is through studies and extensive research which Jessica offers as documentation in this book that the reader is able to see the correlation between thoughts, emotions and how they impact the physical body.

The book teaches us that by eliminating the limiting beliefs we reduce the stress and thereby allow our body to come back to balance without the bombardment of toxic stress chemicals which are release when we experience stress. EFT has been shown to have high success rates in reducing cortisol and calming the emotions, with the use of EFT Tapping Jessica takes the reader through and exploration of their personal beliefs surrounding the subject of weight loss and how they feel about their own body.

The reader is introduced to randomized controlled study conducted by Dawson Church Ph.D. were the participants in the tapping group dropped cortisol levels from 24-to 50% also matching the results attained by a Harvard Medical School Study which showed that by stimulating selective meridians acupoints it decreases the activity within the brain area associated with negative emotions.

The Tapping Solution offers a chart of the tapping sequence and teaches the reader step by step the use of EFT and how to word your set up phrase for maximum effect.

“You’ve been criticizing yourself for years, try approving of yourself and see what happens.”
Louise L. Hay

The book teaches the reader how to use EFT Tapping to tap on direct issues such as

•Limiting beliefs
•Overcome Emotional Eating
•Cravings
•Negative self-talk
•Body Image
•Self-acceptance

As a Holistic Life Coach, and EFT Practitioner Adv., The Tapping Solution resonates deeply within me. I am an avid EFT user and teacher, it has been part of my life for the last ten years, the information within these pages are not only well researched facts but also powerful tools for any woman who is ready to explore her own personal weigh loss issues and body image. The Tapping Solution for Weight Loss & Body Confidence: A Woman's Guide to Stressing Less, Weighing Less, and Loving More

Learning the use of EFT Tapping is simple, the book has a detailed diagram that anyone can easily follow and learn to use effectively. The Tapping Solution covers just about all vital issues that a woman may be faced with surrounding the subject of weight and body. It is well written and highly sensitive in dealing with a subject matter that many women would rather not discuss.

I have my own personal experience using EFT and I can honestly say that is the best tool out there to retrain the subconscious mind and alter negative programing. Like any tool or program there has to be a willingness on the part of the participant to want to change patterns and behaviors, if you’ve been looking to step off the roller coaster of negative self-talk and emotions this book is for you. Highly recommended!

Also published on my blog.

I liked this book. There was a lot to recognise and a lot to reflect on. It doesn’t get a full score from me for a couple of reasons, so let me just address those quickly first:

- I don’t feel this is a very thorough introduction to the practice of energy tapping, as it doesn’t really explain what it is/what it’s based on properly. I mean, there are studies referenced on why it’s beneficial, but it never really goes into what tapping is, as such. And it doesn’t explain what the points Ortner uses correspond to. As I happen to be studying energy/meridian tapping I happen to know a little bit about this already, but if I hadn’t I would have missed some more (thorough) background.
- It’s a little… American. By which I mean it’s slightly sensationalist, in my opinion. It’s like it’s an anti-diet book that makes you lose weight by… magic. I’m exaggerating of course, but it kind of makes it seem like by tapping, I will begin to crave carrots rather than chocolate. Let’s just say that hasn’t happened so far. I do think there’s a lot of merit to tapping to clear limiting beliefs and old patterns, and cement new beliefs and patterns, and I definitely think it can be a valuable tool in the process of loving yourself and respecting your body – I just think you need more than tapping.

Short intro on energy tapping

So, energy tapping is based on traditional Chinese medicine, and the concept of Qi. If you’re familiar with acupuncture/acupressure, energy tapping uses these same meridian points, but only stimulate them with a gentle tap. The meridians are the paths that life energy (Qi) flows through our bodies. The idea is that we have an energy body that exists around the space of our physical body, and by interacting with the energy body and stimulating the meridian points we can get our energy moving. We can loosen up things (thoughts, feelings, physical sensations) that are stuck in our energy system and strengthen positive energy flows by feeding the energy body with positive energies and affirmations.

I consider myself fairly alternative, but I still think this sounds kinda weird. But then again, our bodies and our minds are kind of weird and there’s tons of stuff we cannot explain through traditional Western medicine either. All I can say is that from my experience, energy tapping works. As in, it has a marked positive influence, and can be really helpful to do if you’re feeling stressed or worried.

Back to the book review

In The Tapping Solution… Jessica Ortner goes through how we can use tapping to deal with body confidence issues, cravings, stress and trauma.

The book is well-written and divided into clear sections and easy to follow. And despite what I said about the book being overly enthusiastic I really do like Jessica Ortner. She seems like such a nice and genuine person, and I really believe she wants to help people. She also includes links in the book to lots of extra (free) material on her website, which is a nice bonus.

It covers important topics like dealing with emotional eating, limiting beliefs and past events, finding pleasure in moving your body, taking care of yourself, and food myths. I’ve been reading this simultaneously with Intuitive Eating, and it’s interesting to see how much they overlap in content and overarching ideas. Since Intuitive Eating is written by dieticians and has a lot of science and examples to back up what they’re writing, I find it comforting and encouraging that these different approaches/angles basically lead to quite similar conclusions. It makes me feel surer that a “non diet” approach is really what makes the most sense for both physical and mental well-being in the longer term.

I don’t think tapping by itself will solve anyone’s body issues, but I do think it’s a powerful tool to help investigate how we got to where we are, why we believe what we do, why we’re feeling what we are and to start to open up and change those things. Some of the sections and questions definitely made me re-examine and re-evaluate things that have happened in my own past that have led me down this path, and I found that really helpful.

There’s also a bunch of suggested tapping patterns (with phrases) you can use throughout the book if you’re having trouble getting started. Tapping works best when you find your own words and phrases and you are as specific as possible, but this can be a good starting point if you’re not sure what to say.

If you want to feel more empowered and confident, healthier and less stressed, this book can definitely help you on the way (though I’m not going to say it’ll make you lose weight – but then again that’s not really the primary objective even though it’s in the title). I’m sure I’ll be coming back to it both for myself and when I start helping others to deal with their body issues.

Lose weight without dieting!🙂 I applaud Jessica for taking a stance on this sensitive yet critical topic! She invites you to take responsibility for your health and well-being while teaching you how to be gentle. Emotional Freedom Techniques (Tapping Meditation) is featured as a tool to finally break free from emotional pain, false beliefs, and that never-ending inner bully.
These powerful insights will move you!

Your emotions are the driving force behind every action you take. You may know exactly what you should be doing but you're not doing it because your emotions sidetrack you.

I realized I wasn't broken. I just had layers of beliefs that made life feel unbearable if I couldn't turn to food for comfort.

It suddenly hit me it was nearly impossible to take care of something I hated. I'd spent so long hating my body that I didn't know how to respect the nurture myself or my body.

So often the judgment we fear from others is actually judgment we are putting on ourselves.

The point is to figure out how to take care of us. We are all at our most powerful when we are our healthiest.

This isn’t so much a weight loss book, but a self-empowerment one. It emphasizes the message that you just love your body as it is now and honor it and get support but really to embrace life fully and expect disappointment and other negative feelings, but know you have the capability and power to love through them to fully embrace your life. It’s about being in the present and not allowing past events to define you, but create your own script for more meaning and happiness in your life.

Pretty good, focusing on body image and mistaken beliefs about your own self image. Wished there had been a more cohesive step-by-step approach but good nonetheless. Probably wouldn't purchase this as most of its contents are in the original Tapping Solution book (which is stellar) but it's nice to have one focusing on women's issues, although men can benefit from it as well.

To start, I have heard of The Tapping Solution, EFT, but never learned about it. So this is mostly new to me.
I ordered this book because it sounded intriguing, but wasn’t sure what it contained. I am pleasantly surprised. A quote at the end from one of her clients explains it well.
“Thank You, Jessica, for tricking us with the title. What I think you were really creating was a movement for empowering women to transform our lives, get our energies flowing, strut our stuff, make the world a better place and fall in love with life. . . . with the helpful side effects of loosing weight and living longer, happier, healthier lives!”

I didn’t expect for this book to speak directly to my many thoughts and feelings, but it did. . . . . Deeply! It makes perfect sense and provides a simple, effective way to get in touch with yourself. I am a satisfied fan and look forward to using tapping daily. It has already assisted me immensely. The procedure and results are simple. Her words are clear and to the point. Strongly recommend to all women of all ages.

Colette Baron-Reids "Weightloss for people who feel too much" was my first choice to read but when I saw that she recommended tapping, I decided to first give this book a go, since I'm a fan of the tapping solution.
Lots of great chapters dealing with building self-compassion and clearing the pain from past experiences that cause one to torture themselves.
This tackles all of aspects most nutrition and diet books don't.
Personally, I didn't find chapter 10 about dietary/nutritional choices as helpful (I'm skeptical of most of the studies mentioned throughout those chapters) but I'm happy to cherry pick what I find helpful and just let the rest fall away.
I switched between reading and hearing Jessica Ortner's audiobook. This is available on the tapping solution app as well, in a more convenient form since the specific tapping sessions are separated from the body of the book. This makes it helpful to return to those sessions instead of wading through the book. Also Jessica Ortner's voice is very authentic and calming.

This is a wonderful book! Tapping is already great, but this book shows how to tap to lose that pesky weight! She also goes over absolutely everything that might be getting in your way, limiting beliefs, ignoring self-care, hating exercise, not believing in your own worth and helps you weed out where that all began for you. Scripts are provided to help you tap through every block. She focuses mostly on being beautiful and worthy and Living life Now,not waiting for all that to happen after you're thin. This book is about loving yourself and being happy, once you stop fighting, the weight will go. She also addresses why we don't trust ourselves, why is it we allow a scale or tape measure to utterly destroy us when a few days earlier we were certain our jeans weren't so tight. Trust how you feel, how things fit, not an inanimate object, that was huge for me!! I'm noticing many little changes.

This is one of the most profound books I have ever read about weight loss. Interestingly, it doesn’t include weight loss recipes, exercises, or breathing techniques. Instead, it takes weight loss to another level by delving deeply into human emotions. It explores why we experience certain things in life and how specific events have significantly impacted our food habits and stress levels.

The book also introduces EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), which helps release suppressed emotions, uncover root causes, and achieve those enlightening "aha" moments.

I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in weight loss, self-love, and building body confidence. It’s truly an amazing read!

Recently stumbled on tapping last year and it’s been a game changer. Currently studying how to use tapping with food habits since I have many restrictions with my diet and sometimes I cave when in situations where I haven’t packed what I needed beforehand or group settings make it uncomfortable to be eating different foods than everyone else or I just feel like I don’t have the energy to maintain the effort it takes to care and plan and prepare the foods that help me feel the best. This book had several gems that I’ll be referring to often and drawing from when I need extra help.

There is so much awesomeness is this book. I have not started the principles or tapping yet however plan on going back thru the book and doing the tapping method. I did a few online tapping seminars and it was very relaxing and intriguing. I read all the way thru this book as suggested now starting back to work thru the steps.

This is pseudoscience.

Read the book with an open mind, then decided to read more about tapping. Tapping has been debunked as a treatment option, and has been shown to be placebo effect plain and simple.

Before you start tapping on your armpit, I'd suggest trying journaling or traditional therapy first.

As much as I think most tapping scripts are cheesy, I think it's easier to do with someone else saying the cheese. I listened to this as an audiobook and am doing pretty darn well with the start of the school year after a year and a half of COVID. Maybe it helped? I'm feeling pretty darn resilient right now! :P Go me! :D

This book was packed with so much information that I found myself going through it very slowly and repeating some of the chapters two or three times so I could really understand the information. I did enjoy that the author did narrate the book. I did enjoy learning some of the tapping sequences. I do hope Jessica might write another book soon.

Erg interessant!

Amazing audible. I loved it!!! So many great tapping scripts to help with weight loss. Also, things that you wouldn't maybe associate with losing weight that we need to get rid of it. So glad this is an audible so I can play it back. Also added bonus tapping that you can get.
