All florist Quincy McKay wants is success in business, a happy family and the perfect romance with Alex Cooper, the hottest cop in the state. Not necessarily in that order, of course. Is that so much to ask?
The trouble is, between Alex’s job and planning weddings, it’s getting harder and harder for Quincy and Alex to find any time to themselves. Every time the flames of passion ignite between them, someone or something shows up to fizzle the fire, including her meddling mother, her formerly absent father and even Elma, the handsiest waitress in the West.
Wedded bliss is contagious in small town Hillside. Should be great news for Quincy, except that one groom is missing and another is the prime suspect. Hard for a florist to make a living that way, and even harder for her to stay out of the investigation, especially when the suspect is her sidekick, K.C.’s fiancé.
Just when she thinks nothing else could go wrong, a ghost from Alex’s past comes back to haunt them both, which could keep them apart forever, if someone doesn’t kill Quincy first. She’s stumbled into the clues to solve the case of the missing groom and finds a corpse as well, proving that planning a wedding can literally be murder.
Annie Adams is the author of THE FINAL ARRANGEMENT, book one in The Flower Shop Mystery series. She lives with her husband, two giant dogs, and two too giant cats in Northern Utah at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains. When not writing she can be found arranging flowers or delivering them in her own Zombie Delivery Van.
I liked this cozy mystery set in Utah. The MC runs a florist shop, and she is dating a cop. There's a lot of flirtation between the two of them (which seemed to drag on a little bit). I did love the Mormon vibe with the group intelligence spying etc. It was a nice story...and a little twist at the end.
This is marketed as a mystery, but if anything, it's a mediocre romance. What little mystery there is doesn't get rolling until 25% into the book, and the most interesting aspect of the entire thing (involving a regular client of the flower shop and his apparently missing wife) is only dealt with in passing. It would have been a much better novel if that was the main story line.
I was mystified by the main character's attitude towards sex; she's a previously married adult, but acts as if she's a blushing virgin who's never been alone with a man. Way too much time was spent on her relationship angst, and the book is mostly filler.
Unless you have absolutely nothing to read, pass this one up.
This 2nd book in the Flower Shop Mystery Series is marginally better than the first one -- hence 2 stars instead of 1. Again, I'm glad I didn't pay for it; it was a free ebook from Book Bub. My main complaint is that this is supposed to be a MYSTERY series, and yet, the book is about almost anything and everything other than a mystery! On my Kindle, I was at 85% before anything even resembling a mystery popped into the storyline. IMO, the book is much more of a "Romance" than anything else. So much of the plot is taken up with Quincy's love life, and the whole "should I' or "shouldn't I" decision. As with the first book, there are way too many convoluted story twists and coincidences.
Having said all that, however, it's not the worst book I've read, and it certainly qualifies as an easy beach read. As I said, at least it was free.
I love this book. It is the second book of the series. It centers around a florist named Quincy and her wacky family and friends. She seems to have a knack for stumbling upon murder victims. It is a very funny book!
I really enjoyed this book. I normally read at bedtime and it was hard for me to put the book down. I did tell Quincy several times during the book to stop being so stupid, but guess she couldn't hear me. Looking forward to reading the second book in the series now.
This series is just ok for me. I don't feel like I'm reading a cozy mystery. I feel like it is more romance with a murder mystery as side action. The actual murder didn't occur until almost halfway through the book. So much time is spent on the relationship between Quincy and Dylan. Romance is ok but not as a main theme in my cozies.
I will say though there are quite a few laugh out loud moments. Based on those if I could I would give it a 3.5.
The characters aren't unlikable but I won't miss them. I don't plan on returning to this series after my two visits and still feel just ok with it. Give it a try though as you may love it.
Quincy beginning her day when her employee telling her she was a b... after having to tell. her she dressed like a prostitute for work didn’t look good. Nick always elebrates his story, but someone did hit the delivery van. What was odd, is that they were looking at him, shaking fists and yelling. So now to call one unpleasant detective. We find out more about Quincy family, and her abusive ex. Now a sister has a jerk of a boyfriend. Deadly pranks are adding up for her. Then a missing groom. Full of action, and hope Quincy survives, good cozy mystery
Just could not get into this book. I rarely give up on a book, but it just seemed to be taking forever to go nowhere. Sorry....but there are more books that I want to read!!!!!
Utah's favorite flower shop operator and unintentional sleuth is back in action in Annie Adams' second novel in the flower shop series. The plot is more complex this time, with the potential discovery of a believed-to-be extinct False Island Booby bird. (Yes, that's its name -- I'm not making this up.) A lecture in the Wildwood Conservatory leads to the discovery of a dead body, the disappearance of a suspect, the possibility of water pollution while our heroine Qunicy tries to keep a new romance developing while attending to Flower Shop trauma involving orders from her most demanding client and her desire to outdo herself in arranging flowers for the wedding of her assistant. Some of Quincy's adventures in the wild seem a stretch on the reader's believability, but hang in there because all is resolved by the end, while leaving one large stone unturned, perhaps setting the scene for s third entry in this series. All-in-all, a fun read with characters you are happy to meet again.
I liked the first in the series and was anticipating this second release. I was glad to see the return of the cast of quirky characters, but Quincy is a bit too hard=headed at times - she and her love interest sure don't communicate well with each other. What I didn't care for particularly was that the first portion (maybe half?) was all about her and Alex - sexual tension galore and plenty of interrupted opportunities. I like sexual tension in a story as much as the next gal and the touch of romance in cozy mysteries is part of the reason why I read them, but when it goes on and on, it becomes ridiculous. The mystery finally kicked in and I did enjoy the remainder of the book. What I still don't grasp is the author's purpose for the Mormon angle - it doesn't add anything to the story, but I guess I'm OK with it since it isn't "preachy". It was a light, entertaining read and I will give the next one chance as well.
The adventures of Quincy and KC continued on in this wonderfully written cozy mystery. These two characters certainly have a way of finding themselves getting into the thick of it without even having to try that hard, which keeps the reader's attention focused on trying to figure out 'who done it'. There are some laugh out loud moments sprinkled throughout the story along with another mystery for Quincy to solve...with the help, of course, of her eclectic band of family and friends. I can highly recommend this family friendly read.
Quincy is caught up in a friend’s wedding while nervously contemplating a “happily after” of her own with undercover cop Alex. But every time they get close, they get interrupted with a murder, a prodigal father, an old girlfriend, and a ribbon obsessed future mother-in-law. While the mystery is not particularly challenging and some of the secondary characters are predictable, the back and forth between Alex and Qunicy unfolds in lock-step with the puzzle with satisfying hilarity.
I started reading this right after the first book in the series. Once again I enjoyed reading about Quincy and the crazy predicaments she finds herself in. The other characters come to life a bit more and the older KC adds quite the humor. They succeed in their business obligations and solve another mystery. The back and forth between Quincy and Alex gets a little tedious but finally in the end they get it all together. It even ends in an interesting cliff hanger.
2 1/2 stars. This is a series that I have not read. I did as if I was missing some of the subtext from the previous books. it is under the genre of mystery but it is more of a chick-lit romance with a very non-trusting woman. The writing was decent with one big pet peeve * the author always wrote "me and xxx" instead of "xxx and I".
Loved this book. Even better than the first one, final arrangements. Can't wait for the next one to come out. Annie Adams has a great writing style. Love her characters and can't wait to find out what's in store for them all. This book is a murder/mystery. It's funny and has some romance as well. Couldn't put it down.
this book was about the people who make flowers for weddings and special events.the murder mysteries are a part of this book and the ending was a surprise.
I enjoyed reading this book. I liked the characters, the story was good, and I enjoyed the writing style of this author. I'm glad she finally got what she wanted near the end.
Florist Quincy McKay wants her business to be successful; she also would like to have more time with her boyfriend. Unfortunately, pushy customers and dead bodies keep getting in the way.
light hearted and about as much fun who done it can get.the ending suggests another book and I liked this one so much I immediately went looking for it
Book two in this series - a quick, easy read. Mix of romance and mystery. Continues the adventures from the first book and it is helpful to have read the first novel. Interesting characters.
