From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Meghan Quinn comes a new forced proximity, single dad romantic comedy. This steamy, laugh out loud, enemies-to-lovers, small town standalone romance delivers the perfect happily ever after.
What does one do when they completely blow an interview? If you're me, you pick up a one-night stand with the most gorgeous man you've ever seen..
That's right, after a lousy interview that could have changed everything for me, I headed over to the local small town bar to sulk when the one man I shouldn't want walked in. And when my friend convinced me to take him back to my hotel room, I didn't think about it, I just did it . . . well, I did him.
It was an unforgettable night, but I didn't stay for breakfast. Instead, I got out of there and tried not to think about him again.
Everything was fine until I received a call from the interviewer saying I got the job as the assistant baseball coach at Almond Bay High. I'd be working directly under the one and only Ryland Rowley--my one-night stand.
Now, I'm not only working with him but renting the apartment above his garage. And I have to deal with the fact that he's the man I dream about and can't have while not letting my attraction get in the way of keeping the harmony between us. Sounds easy, doesn't it?
It should have been, except the plan falls apart when my shower breaks, and night after night I have to slip into his house to use the bathroom only to find him in the kitchen, staring me down with those hungry, single dad eyes.
When I was in high school I occasionally read books but was consumed by other teenage things so I didn't take the time to appreciate a good book on a cloudy day, wrapped up in a blanket on the couch. It wasn't until I received a Kindle for Christmas one year that my world completely flipped upside down. When looking for books I came across the Contemporary Romance genre and was sold and I haven't turned back since.
You can either find my head buried in my Kindle, listening to inspiring heart ripping music or typing away on the computer twisting and turning the lives of my characters while driving my readers crazy with anticipation.
I currently reside in beautiful Colorado Springs where the sun is always shining and there is a trail waiting to be hiked on every corner. I share a lovely and warm home with the love of my life and my five, four-legged children.
4.5 ⭐️ Okay at the beginning I was definitely a little bit confused about their whole relationship and why they kept acting the same way over and over, but fuck… the little girl, Mac, she made this book for me, I literally cried three different times and each time it was bc of her. The epilogue… I’m can’t even go there bc… I’ll cry again
I think this is my fave in the series!! 🤍 I was in a massive slump and this dragged me right out of it… such an easy read which picks up right from the jump
I AM NOT OKAY AFTER THAT EPILOGUE 😭 Literally had tears streaming down my face 😭
This book had me all up in my feels and it easily would have been a 5 star if it was more love than lust. The sweet moments between Ryland and Mac and Ryland and Gabby were the best part of the book. Oh and the banter with all the siblings, I had a few cackles with those texts.
I don’t think I’ve ever begged harder for an epilogue in my life. Not because I cared about the characters, but because I just wanted this to finally be over. And when I got it? Somehow the worst epilogue I’ve ever read, but still the best part of this entire book.
This story was boring, repetitive, and dragged out. Every single emotion led to the same result: when they were mad, they were doing it. When they were sad, they were doing it. Confused? Still doing it. It got so tiring that I was practically begging them to pick a new hobby. I can’t buy into their love story because it wasn’t even a love story—it was just hookup after hookup, then suddenly they were “in love.”
What makes it worse is that they had potential. They could have been fun as rivals or petty enemies, but that chance was wasted. The festival moment could have been the highlight of the book, something that added real depth, but by that point I was already so over it that it had no impact.
And the sports talk? I don’t pick up sports romances to read an endless baseball commentary. Their only real connection was baseball, and hearing about it constantly drove me insane. We get it, baseball exists. It was boring.
The only thing that kept me from giving zero stars was Bower, who was the best part of this entire mess. Honestly don’t know if I’ll try another book by this author after this, but at least I got my rant out of it.
⋆. 𐙚 ˚ pre read ⋆. 𐙚 ˚ My first Meghan Quinn book and I’m so excited! yes, I went straight for the single dad🤭
4.5 ⭐️ Thank you so much to Meghan Quinn and Hambright PR for this gifted copy!

Happy pub day 1/7/25!! 🎉 This book was so amazing! It had the best chemistry, tons of baseball history and the stories of the two main characters slowly unraveling and then coming back together again. There is found family and familial sacrifices that have had to be made. Ryland is a new “uncle dad” to his four year old niece and nothing I love more than a single parent and watching the outside love interest mingle and twine together with the duo. This book was fantastic! I love all of MQs books but this one hit it out of the park!
4⭐️ and 4🌶️(invest in good headphones)-I was excited to receive this ALC for review after following Meghan Quinn on socials for awhile! This dual narration audiobook features Ryland, a baseball coach raising his young niece and Gabby, his new assistant coach, tenant and irresistible thorn in his side who shoots her shot with him after she believes he fails to show up for her interview-only to be thrust into his life in unexpected and unavoidable ways. While not instalove, their insta-bed chem is the problem they just can’t quit. This book can be read as a stand-alone but does take place in a bigger Almond Cove universe, and I do wish I had read the others first to better appreciate the winks and nudges to other events in other books (though I don’t get the sense it would spoil too much to read it before). It also is a very long audiobook, and I wanted a bit more plot development and a bit less spice because I felt like the characters and set up were so interesting (but that’s definitely personal preference). This drops 1/7!
This is the third in a series and I started here and was fine but I’m definitely going back to read the previous books because this was so good!! I’ve only read a couple of books from the author but I’m changing that asap because I adored this so much. It was funny, charming, spicy and sweet and the banter was top tier. The narrators were both fantastic and Samantha particularly is one of the best! The narrators were both fantastic and this is duet style which is my absolute favorite, it lends such a sense of authenticity to the story and this was already so genuine and heartfelt. Audio is for sure the way to go!
Really thought I was going to love this one, so it’s disappointing that wasn’t the case. The blurb made the tropes sound right up my alley - I love a found family/new guardian romance, forced proximity and the tension that comes from having a one night stand with someone who ends up being off-limits. Unfortunately, the pacing made this an absolute slog for me to get through. The spice kicks in nearly from page one and dominates the story for AT LEAST 300 pages, with the emotional connection slowly coming into play later on. We’d get these tiny moments where I thought the characters were connecting in a deeper way, and then they’d go right back to banging. Granted, that was Quinn’s intention, but that means it took over 300 pages for ME to form any sort of connection to the characters, and I was already mentally checked out by that point. Fans of high heat friends with benefits romances are likely to enjoy this the most, as that’s the trope that plays the biggest role. That happens to be one of my least favorites, so this was largely a miss for me.
The story follows Gabby, a woman who is disappointed when she believes that a job interview didn’t go well. Stopping for a drink, Gabby encounters the man she thought she’d be working with - though he didn’t show for the interview. After her friend convinces her to make the most of the situation, Gabby hooks up with Ryland… only to discover that she got the job after all. Now she’ll be working with the intense, sexy man she had an incredibly hot night with, and that’s uncomfortable for everyone involved. To make matters worse, it turns out that Ryland is her new landlord, and he’ll be living close by with his young niece. Gabby and Ryland have a difficult time putting that night behind them, and soon find themselves working out some tension in the bedroom.
Though I’ve been struggling with Quinn’s work lately, I had such a good feeling about this story. On paper, the tropes in the blurb are my catnip, but the story progresses in a way that I didn’t expect. For a long time, it’s just spice after spice, with off-putting actions from both characters. Ryland was under a lot of pressure and quick to temper, while Gabby felt no remorse for enticing him into hookups while withholding some major information. Both left a sour taste in my mouth, and having much of their relationship be physical didn’t improve the situation. I had trouble rooting for them, and the tropes I was looking forward to the most were the least present in the story. There are definitely readers who will enjoy the slow emotional burn in a high heat setting though, and I liked that the story didn’t develop in a predictable way. Major bonus points for it not having a big third act breakup, especially since they took their time getting together.
10⭐️!!!! This audiobook made me laugh and made me cry. My favorite Meghan Quinn book to date. Such a beautiful and powerful story of healing and hope. The audiobook was top tier!! Duet narration with Sebastian York and Samantha Brentmoor. Absolutely perfect narration.
Quick Opinion: I totally forgot to write this review right away and read 2 other books before writing this, so please take what I say with a grain of salt, because those fine details blur together. I enjoyed this but it was too long (454 pages in my kindle app) and it felt that way at times. I think it could've been edited down, especially in some parts that felt slow. I also was frustrated with the hot and cold from the H. I wouldn't say I really struggled with this, but I also didn't really remember a ton about it when I realized that I hadn't written a review -- and I think that says it all. Ms. Quinn is majorly hit or miss for me, but she never fails to pull me in with her premises and blurbs!
This was such a perfect mix of emotional, hilarious, sexy and heart warming, and I absolutely freaking LOVED IT!!! I was beyond thrilled to finally get Ryland’s story and honestly my heart is so damn full after finishing this. Ryland’s sister passed away several years prior, and chose Ryland to be in charge of her pride & joy, Mackenzie. He is working on being the best single dad and finally finding his rhythm that is until a show stopping stunner, Gabby, rocks his world and up-ends it all at the same time.
Gabby is trying to move back to the small town where she at one point raised her younger, baseball star of a brother & wants a chance to be successful as an assistant baseball coach in a boy’s world. She also needs to branch out and do things for HER which eventually ends up as her having a one night stand with a sexy baseball coach after what she believed to be a failed interview. Later she finds out she actually gets the job to be assistant coach & has to find a place to live. Funny enough she gets the perfect place only to realize HER ONE NIGHT STAND AND SOON TO BE BOSS IS THE LANDLORD!!
These two couldn’t keep their hands to themselves no matter how many times they said “no more” and I loved it 😏🌶️ they could really see the true interworkings of one another’s mind as they both dealt with similar traumas growing up, and seeing their walls come crashing down was truly a beautiful experience.
I laughed, I cried, I got hot and bothered, and it was a wonderful ride. This was the Meghan writing that I love so much & am so thrilled with how amazing the book was!!
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Type: audio

DNF 25%. I used to love MQ books but lately I can't get past the ridiculous immaturity of the characters and the amount of smut. Maybe I've just outgrown her books.
Gabby has just left her interview for a job as an assistant baseball coach at the high school she watched her brother grow and play at. The coach didn't show, and she's convinced she's bombed the interview. Nursing her feelings at the local bar, she sees the smoking hot coach himself and decides to throw caution to the wind, have a crazy one night stand, drive him up the wall and walk away the next day knowing she rocked his world. Things get a little messy a few days later when she gets the call that she's got the job and will be working directly with him. Now she's preparing to pack up and move to Almond Bay and embrace the chaos she's bound to walk into.

This book was everything I had hoped for from the Almond Bay series and then some. It was honest, genuine, heartwarming, and so beautifully done. The author made Ryland and MacKenzie's love so transparent in how their story was told. The care between them was front and center as uncle and niece, while still allowing space for Ryland and Gabby to have their own relationship develop and for his relationships with his sisters to deepen. The caution and awareness built around their traumas and how they address them, as well as their banter, humour, and chemistry, was so well done. I got lost in the story easily, especially with how well the voice actors nailed their roles in duet.
In typical Meghan Quinn fashion, the spice was solid, the mouth on that man was top notch, and the scenes were spaced out enough to not pull away from the plot. Also, the epilogue?! Ooof, I straight up sobbed. This was a perfect end for Ryland and Mack, and I can't wait to see what the author decides to do with the hook she's laid for Gabby's brothers story.

Thank you, Good Girls PR and Meghan Quinn, for the ALC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Nothing about the premise of this book makes any sense. It doesn’t make sense that this David person would hire Gabby in the first place (or be given authority to do so). The amount of miscommunication makes no sense. All of Ryland’s behavior makes no sense. The entire “plot” to this point just flip flops between “Ryland is mad” and “whoops they’re banging again”.
And - yall - this book is 518 pages. About what? I can’t.
2.5 stars, rounded up. I tried to like this book, but I just could not get past the MMC and his chauvinism. I liked Ryland a lot in the other books, but as a main character…it’s a no for me. He was sexist, over bearing, illogical in his decisions a lot of the time and mired in familial trauma that was never resolved, and just a red flag for me. Also, the story draggggeeeddd so much. I will definitely still be reading the rest of the series, but this one just was not for me.
Meghan Quinn has done it again! This book was cute, heartwarming, funny, and spicy. The way Gabby and Ryland hit it off after one crazy, steamy night—thinking they’d never see each other again—only to end up in a position where they have to work together.
The way Ryland steps in and takes on the dad role warmed my heart. Every moment between him and Mac was beautiful and made me fall in love with these characters. “Uncle Dad” Ryland truly stole the show. Gabby and Ryland were definitely meant to be together, and this book was hot AF with its spicy scenes. Meghan Quinn never misses!
Lastly, that epilogue pulled on my heartstrings and wrapped up this story beautifully. Even though the book had its emotional moments, the humor shone through, thanks to Gabby’s best friend, Bower. That girl had me laughing out loud so many times!
This has definitely become one of my favorite books by Meghan Quinn. Also the narrators for this book did an amazing job.
Thank you, Meghan Quinn and Hambright PR, for the ALC in exchange for my honest review.
Likes: This entire Almond Bay series is so great, and I've grown to love all of the characters so much. Meghan's stories are always filled with the best humor and banter and spice that makes you sweat, which is the case with this one as well.
Gabby is such a resilient character, and I love that she's not afraid to stand up for herself or go after what she wants. And I love the relationship she has with her brother, Bennett. But she and Ryland have amazing chemistry, and she both opens him up and grounds him, which is something he really needs. Also, Ryland's entire family unit is something I wish I had, and I adore Mac 💕
Dislikes: The only thing I found slightly unappealing is Ryland's temper. But then again, that is part of his character and something he struggles with constantly, considering his family background. But if I was in Gabby's shoes, there were a couple times that she was able to brush off Ryland's behavior when he snaps at her, and it's not something I would've personally liked. But as for the story itself, I have no critiques
Favorite moment: The epilogue 💕
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
✨ I know everything will work out as long as I have these two. They will be all I need, nothing else. Us. Forever. ✨
It’s impossible for Meghan Quinn to write anything but masterpieces.
This baby was thee perfect small-town romance book, starting with a one-night stand that turns into so much more. Both Ryland (MMC) and Gabby (FMC) has their fair share of baggage, and it makes their love story even more beautiful. It’s the perfect mixture of all the feels while delivering spice all the way through. 🤭
I LOVED that Bennett and Gabby’s sibling relationship played such a big role in this book. It hit me deep in the feels, as I could relate so much to Gabby and her big sister tendencies, doing everything she could to help Bennett chase his dreams. At the same time, I adored watching Ryland and Mac’s (his niece) relationship develop after Cassidy (his sister) passed and he took her in. ❤️🩹
But Mother Meghan, we’ve got a problem. Cause Ryland is making me so delulu that I’m starting to believe that even the most emotionally unavailable men can have a change of heart… 🤦🏻♀️🤡
This book is a work of art! 💫
✨ "But I can't deny my feelings for you, Gabby. They're too fucking strong. So I can either continue to battle them and get eaten alive from the inside every goddamn time I see you or I can do something about it. I'm choosing to do something about it." ✨
Tropes: 🛏️ One-Night Stand ⚾️ Coach x Assistant Coach 🚿 Forced Proximity 💞 Single Dad ❤️🔥 Hate to Love 🏘️ Small Town Romance 🔥 SPICYYY
OH MY GAAAAAAAAAAWD!! Okay, first things first, when did Meghan Quinn start writing stories that completely wreck you and uplift you simultaneously? WHEN PEOPLE?! Someone should have warned me. I wasn’t prepared, but man did I love every moment of this story!
You know what the best part of listening to this audiobook was? The ease with which the story unfolded, and no plot point was overly dramatized. I mean there were plenty of circumstances surrounding not just Ryland, but also Gabby that could have been reeved up a notch or two, but they weren’t, and they were just as impactful to my soul that way. MAD PROPS TO YOU MEGHAN!!
There’s a aura of hope to this story that is constantly milling around at every turn and that’s also something I loved about this story. I was rooting for them. I wanted that ❤️sweet spot❤️ for them badly! I also loved that they had fun with each other. I loved that the feel of the story was relaxed but also significant. Every choice that Ryland and Gabby made had the potential to derail one thing or another for each of them, but the pull towards each other was so great they couldn’t help coming together, one way or another! *wink* lol
Samantha Brentmoor & Sebastian York were a huge part of my intense love for this story. As narrators, they executed a flawless duet performance. Sebastian hasn’t always hit the mark for me because his female voices can be #twitchy but hand him a story to perform duet style and the man will melt you into a puddle of goo! I love his deep gravely voice; it sends shivers down my spine every time! And my girl Samantha 👏❤️👏❤️👏 is the absolute best female narrator I have had the pleasure to listen to ever since I began my 🎧audio era🎧!! She has never disappointed and has always been flawless. GAH, I LOVE HER!
Sidenote: Obviously I will now be entering my Meghan Quinn era! k,bye!
The Queen of Rom-Coms has done it again. One of my favourites MQ books to date.
This book was cute, heartwarming, funny and spicy. There was definitely no slow burn here - the spice was spicing in the first few chapters.
Ryland and Gabby were meant to be from the second they met. What they thought would be a steamy one night stand where they won’t be seeing each other again, turns into them working together to coach the school’s baseball team.
I loved seeing them grow throughout the book, both individually and as a couple.
They both had traumatic childhoods and understood each other. Gabby knew when to give Ryland space and when to be there for him to help him fight his demons.
Mac is adorable. Ryland’s relationship with his niece was everything. I mean “Uncle Dad” - cue the tears! 🥹 I loved how Mac and Gabby bonded so quickly too.
Despite the emotional rollercoaster this book put me through, it was hilarious and the banter had me laughing out loud.
I am just slightly intrigued about Gabby’s brother and her best friend’s relationship - are they or aren’t they? I need to know!
- Small town - Coach - Assistant Coach - Single dad - Forced proximity - One night stand - Banter and spice
Meghan Quinn is a master of humor, and her banter is always entertaining. However, this romance fell short for me.
While the chemistry and sexual tension between the leads were palpable, their interactions often ended in spicy scenes or lustful thoughts. This made it difficult for me to distinguish between lust and love.
I craved more intimate moments with deeper dialogue and connection between the MCs - something to convince me they were a genuine romantic match.
Unfortunately, this spicy rom-com didn't quite meet my expectations. Nevertheless, I'm grateful for the advance reader copy opportunity. I know many readers will adore this book, but unfortunately, it wasn't my cup of tea.
This is a standalone within the Almond Bay world, and this time we are following. Readers follow a single dad (by way of raising his deceased sister’s child) as he navigates being a dad and trying not to fall in love with the his assistant coach. Problem is, he already has a one night stand with her.
This one was heartfelt and funny, and oh, so steamy!!! Quinn came out swimming my chapter 2!
The narrators were fantastic as well! The duet narration was great, and really worked well with the telling of their story!
The Path To Loving Him goes from zero to spicy sizzling fire in chapter 2. These enemies can't keep their hands off of each other and keep the heat dialed up to 11.
The sizzle is counterbalanced with the MCs delightful neice who is just too cute.
The Path to Loving Him is LOL funny but it's so much more. It's so heartwarming and truly made my heart smile, I even teared up. The epilogue is entirely unexpected but absolutely perfect. I was literally crying. Beautiful ❤️
Everything I love about the best Meghan Quinn books!
Story: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Trope: single dad, enemies to lovers Angst: 😱😱😱😱 Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥1\2
This book had everything I've come to expect from a perfect Meghan Quinn story: tons of laugh out loud moments, a great storyline that was well written, and a couple of weepy moments as well. These characters just really spoke to me. They were both deeply complex with histories of trauma and sacrifice for their siblings. And both had it manifest in vastly different ways. Ultimately, it made them understand each other in ways that no one else could, despite neither looking for anything permanent. I loved seeing all the characters from the previous books in the series and I'm super excited from the teasers on what's to come!
“Is this what it feels like to start the path to…to loving someone?”
“Sorry…Daddy Coach? Or Coach Daddy?”
“So have the door open for them to walk through, but don’t pull them through.”
Okay I have a lot of thoughts on this book and I just don’t know where to start. The story had a lot of promise, there were lots of moments I really enjoyed, that had me laughing and even tearing up a bit. However, I found the main characters to be really childish. I thought it would get better after the denial phase, but I feel like it got kinda worse. I LOVEEEEEE a possessive man, but I found him to be really annoying cause like dude you’re just a baseball coach…chill. I also didn’t really eat up their relationship like I was hoping to. I don’t know I found it really boring and lackluster. I’m girlie for spice but when the spice gets boring…yeah I feel like the author just started running out of things.
The epilogue…that came out of nowhere I was not prepared for that and nothing in the previous chapters prepared readers for it. It was a weird way to wrap up a story even if it’s meant to wrap up the series.
Positives:
I LOVED Rylands outside relationship like his relationship with his sisters and their husbands. Especially with everything the family goes through, it was really special to see them take on the challenges together. I also loved seeing the relationship between Mac and Gabby grow too, it was sooooo cute! Even though I found the epilogue to be weird, it did make me emotional the ending is really sweet.
This was so slow 😭 I love a slow burn but there was almost no plot besides them repeatedly saying they couldn’t be in a relationship for zero reason the entire book
Meghan Quinn has been one of my favorite authors for years now. I always know I’m going to get the romance trifecta when I read her books (humor, heart, and spice) and that was no different with The Path to Loving Him. Admittedly, this one took me a tiny bit longer to get into than some of her other books but eventually I feel deep and ended up LOVING it. I’m really not surprised. I think one of the major reasons I had a harder time getting into it is because our FMC Gabby is so FORWARD. It felt a little sleazy in the beginning and that’s not something I thought I’d ever say about a female main character. So, it took some time getting used to her constantly asking (seriously, ASKING) for what she wanted in the spice department. Don’t get me wrong, I love an empowered FMC who claims her sexuality, but it didn’t work for me in the beginning especially because Ryland is such a closed off character with so much going on in his life. Ryland on the other hand basically stole my heart from the beginning. He’s taken on guardianship of his four-year-old niece after his sister died and readers can FEEL how hard it’s been to step into his sister’s shoes and take care of this sweet little girl. She truly stole the show for me! Clearly Ryland has some baggage and that makes it very hard for him to open his heart to anyone.
All in all, this book was really sweet. I wished there was a little more focus on Mac (the niece) but it works just fine as is. There’s no third act breakup either which was a very nice surprise (Meghan writes a lot of those LOL). I defiantly recommend it!
