XUE MENG MY SON GET BEHIND ME😤😤

Honestly, the only reason this volume receives a 4-star rating is because of Xue Meng; without him, I would have rated it 3 stars. Throughout this volume, I found myself crying continuously for him, and even now, I am still overwhelmed with emotion. It’s hard to believe how everything collapsed so rapidly around him. Despite being the darling of heaven, fate is so cruel to him. He is my favorite, and witnessing the suffering he endures in this volume deeply hurt me as well. The one solace was that Mei Hanxue was there to care for him, which I really appreciated. Their scenes together are truly precious to me; I cherish every moment they share.
The beginning of this volume felt chaotic due to its uneven pacing, and honestly, the pace remained inconsistent throughout the entire volume. I am increasingly tired of all the problems and obstacles that Chu Wanning and Mo Ran are facing. Volumes 1 through 6 were perfectly crafted, but the current volumes feel rushed and overstuffed.
In this volume, Chu Wanning managed to make me love him even more. I was moved to tears by the depth of his love for Mo Ran. He finally spoke all his genuine, sincere feelings for Mo Ran which touched me deeply.
The scene in which Chu Wanning realised that Mo Ran became what he became in the 0.5 timeline because Mo Ran saved him, and his reaction after was so painful to read.
As for Mo Ran, I initially liked him well enough, but starting from volume 7, I realized that he can be quite foolish and tends to get on my nerves. I sympathize with his suffering, as fate has been cruel to him, and I believe he deserves the love and happiness that the world should give him in return for his hardships. However, his personality doesn't quite align with my preferences.
Their relationship in this volume was exhausting to read about. Do I like them together? Yes, they have chemistry, but the continuous suffering they endure, with no respite in sight, makes the relationship increasingly draining to follow. There was a particular scene that really upset me in this volume because I thought it was unnecessary, leaving a bad taste in my mouth. I want to see them end up happily together, as they truly deserve it, but I don’t consider them among my top favorite couples.
On a positive note, I really appreciate Shi Mei from the 2.0 timeline. His decision to relinquish his vengeance and choose a different path was so good to see.
In conclusion, this volume disappointed me a lot but also brought me a great deal of enjoyment and suffering. Honestly, I'm quite conflicted about how I feel regarding this volume overall.

This is, hands down, the worst volume of this series, and by worst, I mean painful. Forget the previous volume. Forget every previous volume. This is the worst.
I thought we were done with all of that. I thought we were going to maybe make our way towards a happy ending. But volume nine chose violence (literally) and slapped me with a big ol' "SIKE!"
Everything about this volume was cruel and crude. I am barely holding on. If hope is a rope, it's frayed to a crisp. There is a single thread remaining and it's thinner than my pinky nail and it's on fire.
Okay, realistically, I figured this volume would be bad. It's got to get worse before it's get better. But I know the total chapter count, not including the extras, and I'm side-eyeing Meatbun. The only thing keeping me going beyond my incessant need to know what happens is the promise that there really is a happy ending. At this point, I sincerely don't know how that's possible, but Meatbun is a fucking master so I suppose somehow I can anticipate some earth-shattering plot twist that fixes everything with a bow on top.
Speaking of earth-shattering plot twists, they just don't stop. How many new reveals and revelations have there been by now? If each one were a million dollars in my bank account, I'd be so filthy rich right now.
But let's put that to the side right now and just chat Mo Ran and Chu Wanning. Duh, that's why we're all here.
Mo Ran. My precious, beautiful, wrongly convicted Mo Ran. I said in my review for the last volume that if anything happens to him, "I will literally unalive myself." Well, I guess I need to make an appointment to jump off a building.
I get it, Chu Wanning. I, too, would surrender myself entirely to Mo Ran. I, too, would love him across two lifetimes, in life and death. How can you not love Mo Ran? After everything — everything — how can you not just want to give Mo Ran everything in return? It's too painful. It's too sad. Whether as Mo Ran or Taxian-Jun, I'm afraid I also would be hopeless to fight against him. Mo Ran's been used and abused. You can't help but understand him, empathize with him, and want to excuse him for everything, because he's innocent. He's the most innocent. And Chu Wanning knows this more than any one.
Which is why the last chapter of this horrific volume hurts like a machete to the heart. That was the most terrible fucking chapter of this entire series. You think their forced wedding night was the worst? Nope, sorry, the last chapter of this volume was the absolute worst. I didn't anticipate a scene to top that one, but it has. My heart is beyond broken.
There's a happy ending... there's a happy ending...
But IS there? No, I know there is, but once again, how are we getting there at this point?
I don't doubt Meatbun. These two idiots are fated beyond fated.
Get you a Chu Wanning! But also, this directly responds to Mo Ran's thoughts in Volume 8 when he does the thing (not saying what) to his spiritual core: "Hell is too cold. Let me go back, won't you? I want to go home." *eye twitching because Chu Wanning then says in this volume that he's taking Mo Ran home HAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAAHAHAHHA*
But Chapter 279...okay, you see, I've been mentally preparing myself for this chapter for months now. I've miraculously avoided spoilers, so I didn't know what it would entail, and TBH? I personally think there are far angstier chapters than 279. Don't get me wrong — 279 is utter pain, but so is the last chapter of this volume. So is 284 with all of Xue Meng's shit... (let's not talk about Xue Meng or I'll fall into a pit of despair).
If anything, 279 was oddly...peaceful? Or am I just sick in the head? It's what we've been waiting for for so long — such simple admittance. Such simple verbal exchanges. And Mo Ran's simple "Thank you" is probably the most tear-jerker moment of it all. Because what else do you say to Chu Wanning? After everything Mo Ran has been through, what else can he reply to Chu Wanning other than those two words? They encapsulate everything Mo Ran feels. It strongly reminded me of that quote from Jane Austen: "If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more."
If anything, the beginning of chapter 280 is worse.
Or, we can go back a few chapters:

Reading this book feels like falling down 3799 steps, standing back up thinking to yourself “that was shit but I’m in the clear now”, then getting hit by an eighteen-wheeler, picking yourself back up, and then finally getting hit by a train carrying atomic bombs. Damn can we get a break PLEASE?
Don’t even get me startled on that backstabbing SNAKE with the Flower of Eightfold Sorrows. I hope all of the Mo Ran haters have shifted to he who shall not be named since it is quite literally all his fault.
He who shall not be named is a great antagonist, and I base this off of how much I want to punch and kick him. As much as I understand some of his motives I still would love to beat him up. Thank you for giving me conflicting feelings.

Angst, angst, and wow would you believe that, MORE ANGST! A truly devastating novel for readers who like any of the characters. We are in the pits of hell now. I wish I was one of the dead characters so I wouldn’t have to endure this agony anymore (I willingly read 2ha twice. I chose to endure this twice).

I was left hysterically sobbing bloody tears on my pillow.
P.S. I am running with absolute certainty that I hypothetically already approximately finished this volume right about now. I'll be skimming through it anyways when it gets published, I'll use the opportunity to reread a lot of these scenes.

The way this book made me feel is indescribable. The anguish, the rage, the overwhelming hopelessness—I can't fully put it into words.
The injustice Moran endured, the desperate wish to protect him, to see him alive and safe again… He went through everything Taxian Jun did, and then suffered even more unimaginable torment. And even after all that, Moran still helped Chu Wanning—shielding him from the cold as his chest healed. Just thinking about it makes me want to cry again.
The anger I felt at how cruelly he was treated… and yet, through it all, his heart remained kind. Moran, you were never evil. You are worthy of love. You are good, and you made your mother and Shizun proud. They loved you so deeply. ㅠㅠ
Even when people spat on you, humiliated you, hurled stones at you—you still wanted to help them. You set your pain aside to care for others. Your soul is one of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen.
And the way Xue Meng and his parents were treated—utterly heartbreaking. This world can be so cruel.
I was furious over the suffering TXJ endured. And yes, I was upset that he forced aphrodisiacs on Wanning to force him to stay, but at the same time… how can I be angry at someone who hasn’t known love in so long? Even before descending into the underworld, Moran had at least felt love. TXJ hasn’t.
It breaks my heart because, deep down, TXJ is still that same desperate, angry version of Moran—still begging for affection. If he can't be loved gently, he’ll try to seize it by force. Especially from Wanning.
I hate that he’s being manipulated. I hate that his pride and jealousy cloud his vision and prevent him from realizing just how much Wanning loves him.
The whole time I was reading, I just wanted to scream:
"Will someone PLEASE just tell him the truth?! This man is in the dark and no one will open their mouth! Can’t you see how desperate he is?!"
I know Wanning struggles to express emotion. But the words he spoke to Moran that final time…
Please, CWN. Please tell TXJ the truth. Say it! 😭
But I get it—he’s still in denial. He doesn’t believe TXJ is truly alive after giving him the core.
TXJ is starving for affirmation. For love. If he were to receive that—genuinely—he’d probably be softer. Kinder. He lashes out at Wanning because he doesn’t know the truth. 😢 Even after Moran shared his memories, TXJ still denies them… so now it’s up to CWN to tell him.
And now… our baby Xue Meng. Oh. 😭
Poor Xue Meng. His beloved parents suffered so much injustice, and he’s left carrying that weight alone. I’m still sobbing as I write this. 🥺💔
I’m still trying to figure out Mei Hanxue. I don’t understand their motives, or why they’re doing what they’re doing. Honestly, they don’t feel like they have much chemistry with Xue Meng. To me, Mei Hanxue feels bland as a character. And Xue Meng deserves so much more.

The pain and mixed feelings are so hard. Hoping it wraps up nicely, I really hope TXJ has a sort of redemption, begins being kind and apologizes to at least CWN.

November 30, 2025I have questions. Xue Meng gets a happy ending, RIGHT?! After Chu Wanning, he’s my favorite character so I need to know. I waited for vol 10 to release so I could finish the story all at once. I looked at the vol 10 chapter list- are “The Only Possibility” chapters the beginning of the extras or is that part of the main story too? I had heard that this vol had extras and the last vol was all extras. Are the extras part of the plot or can they be skipped/ read at later time?

this is peak literature to me. i’m sorry that i don’t have any more to say about this volume and its many events, but this is peak. mo ran/ taxian-jun & xue meng mean the world to me. same goes for chu wanning.
everyone deserves so much better, fuck the upper cultivation realm, and bless meatbun for sharing this story. i love this series so much :’)

I know I said this last time, but this novel, this one flew by the fastest. The way I need the last volume… like the mtl was soo much different than the official translation. Reading the official translation is night and day compared to the mtl. Feels like a whole new book. I never laughed with this one.. just cried … so so tragic. Anyways bring on the last volume!!

bruh...I hate Taxian-jun, bring back Mo-zongshi!!🫠🫠 well, I'm just tired, all the non-consensual sex aka rapes... there's just no end to them, we're on volume 9 and there's still no end in sight, I still keep reading it anyway because I like the prose, I love the way the story's written but it's an undeniable fact that those things are pure fetisizhing materials, which gross, I hate it, I hate Taxian-jun. On the other hand, poor Xue Meng, he didn't deserve any of that 😭😭

the first 50% of the book was 5 stars but then...
in my opinion taxian jun raping chu wanning in this life was unnecessary, in the past chu wanning didn't have powers and spiritual energy but this life chu wanning is still strong he could have defended himself
I know he was grieving and how hard must have been to see taxian
I just didn't want taxian jun get what he wanted in this life
I wanted this chu wanning to make love with this life mo ran
not to get raped again but that asshole (you may feel sorry for him but I don't, I love mo ran but not taxian)
honestly it would have been more beautiful that when taxian captured chu wanning again he couldn't touch him because of mo ran's memories
chu wanning have been through enough this part of the story was unnecessary.
