What happens when the untameable wind and the endless sea collide in the dark of the night?

Tristan ‘The Predator’ Caine had been unprepared for Morana Vitalio. After spending his entire life with a vow he broke on a rainy night, he finds himself torn in a battle between his painful past and an uncertain future. The only thing he knows? Her life still belongs to him.

For Morana, the line between enemies and allies has blurred. Everything she once held dear to her has disintegrated and the unknown gapes at her, leaving her with both her freedom and life on the line in enemy territory. The only thing she knows? His life has always belonged to her.

With twenty years of history tying them to each other, Tristan and Morana begin their hunt for the truth together. And they realize that the mystery of the missing girls is just the tip of the iceberg.

i simply did not exist before reading this book. you ever finish a book and think what the fuck did this author do to my fucking soul? yeah well this book is the embodiment of that.

there were times where my heart almost gave out, i felt the need to pull out my hair, and jump off the tallest building. then their were times i was squealing so hard, smiling from ear to ear, and running laps around the block 🏃‍♀️

Tristian mf Caine..god i need that man to wreck my plans for a month straight. and Morana…fuck i don’t know if i wanna be her or be with her. either way these characters have me in a fucking chokehold.

and the fucking plot of this book? ok let’s unpack that because this shit was oscar worthy (or whatever the oscar’s but for books is called) just when the plot thickens, it thickens even more and had me on the edge of my seat chewing my acrylic nails 💅🏽 the twist and turns…bro i grew gray hairs wtf?! this book was cunty and i fucking loved it 🫶🏽

PLEASE LET THIS MOMENT THAT I SHARE BE THE REASON YOU PICK UP THIS SERIES!!!

”i don’t even know who i am.”
a hand fisted in her wet hair and pulled her head back firmly, another wrapping around her throat, demanding her attention.
morana closed her eyes.
”look at me,” he ordered, squeezing her neck once.
the grip tightened, and she opened her eyes, staring at his throat.
”eyes,” the demand found its way through the fog.
slowly, morana looked at him. she found those beautiful, magnificent blue eyes looking at her with anything but hate.
”you are exactly where you’re supposed to be,” he told her, his voice leaving no room for doubts. “i know exactly who you are.”
”who am i?”
”mine.”
morana felt her chin quiver, her eyes burning.
”you are morana. my morana. you’re the woman i killed for and you’re the woman i’d die for. you are mine and you are exactly where you’re supposed to be. don’t ever question that again, do you understand?”
”don’t hate me again.”
his hand flexed on her throat. “do you know why i enjoy holding you like this?”
she shook her head.
”i can feel your life under my hand,” he stated, his eyes burning on hers, his fingers locking her life to him. ”your body, your life, your heart — they’re all mine now. trust me to keep all of them safe.”

since this book picks up right where book one ends, i won’t go into too much detail. i feel that it’s very rare to find a book that has such an amazing plot and a romance that makes your heart race a mile a minute. the plot keeps building and building and then delivers such a great plot twist at the end. the twists and turns aaaaa it just kept me fully engaged in the story. i also love it when things start connecting and you find out reasonings behind certain things that happened. it’s like you think something happened because of one thing, but it turns out to be because of something entirely different and it was just really beautiful to see everything unfold.

❥ 𝓂𝓎 𝓉𝒽𝑜𝓊𝑔𝒽𝓉𝓈:
i loved the first book so much and gave it five stars, but i loved this one so much more. i could read about tristan and morana forever tbh. i fell deeper in love with these characters and can’t wait to see little snippets of them in the upcoming books! there should be a lot of snippets because i know runyx won’t leave us hanging regarding a certain situation involving these two. i might actually cry and never stop. the next book is going to be so good guys i already KNOW😩the ending of this book set dante and amara’s story up so perfectly and i’m honestly terrified. i can’t wait to see the found family continue and i hope it grows into a bigger family.

❥ 𝓌𝓇𝒾𝓉𝒾𝓃𝑔/𝓅𝒶𝒸𝒾𝓃𝑔:
i swear i read these books so fast. too fast. once i started, i couldn’t stop. if you plan on reading this series soon…definitely be ready to want to binge all these books back to back😩i feel like the chapters could be shorter, but as long as the book is good i don’t really mind how long the chapters are hehe i won’t even notice. there were still grammar mistakes, but it was way less compared to the first book. definitely would recommend this series to get you out of a slump because of how fast paced they are🤭

"She was his gravity, his fucking planet, and he was lost without her"

Well, this book picks up right where "The Predator" ends, and to say it was amazing would be an understatement. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the characters, but the writing style just wasn’t my type. And only because of that, I'm not giving it a full 5 stars.

In this book, Tristan and Morana are on a quest to unmask the mysterious "Reaper" behind all the chaos. Alongside this thrilling pursuit, their love story unfolds beautifully. While the tension between them was palpable in the first book, it skyrockets in this one. I adored how they fiercely stood up for each other and always had each other's backs. The chemistry between them was simply electric.

╰┈➤ Tristan Caine

This man needs to be protected at all costs. Witnessing his transformation from an emotionally guarded individual to someone who is making an effort to be vulnerable was truly unexpected. While men in love can do all sorts of things, seeing him change himself for the person he loves is the most profound of all. It's a testament to the depth of his feelings and the strength of their bond.

I have never encountered a character quite like Tristan. Quiet yet profoundly supportive, he goes above and beyond for this woman – caring for her, protecting her fiercely, cooking for her, and even washing her hair. While these actions might seem like the bare minimum, they feel extraordinary coming from Tristan. The character development in this book was incredibly well-crafted. Opening up his personal space and being vulnerable wasn't easy for him, yet he is willing to do everything for her. Moreover, he is never once intimidated by her intelligence; on the contrary, he finds it deeply attractive, which is a rare and refreshing trait even in real life.

"But I never, ever want you to not walk into a room and know that every part of me, fucked up man and the lost boy, belong to you."

╰┈➤ Morana Vitalio

At this point, I'm almost at a loss for words to describe this extraordinary woman. She embodies perfection in every sense. Intelligent, well-spoken, bold, and fiercely independent – she has it all. Yet, what truly stood out in this book was her immense courage. Despite grappling with her own trauma, she never once considered giving up on Tristan or their relationship. Instead, she poured her heart into making it work, often taking the lead and showing remarkable strength and commitment. Her unwavering dedication and efforts to nurture their bond make her an exceptional character, truly deserving of admiration.

Her fearlessness in speaking her mind was truly awe-inspiring. I mean, who else would have the guts to stand up to a mafia boss like Lorenzo Maroni and demand accountability for his despicable actions? She's a force to be reckoned with, a true embodiment of strength and integrity. I find myself at a loss for words when it comes to describing her – she's simply the complete package. Needless to say, I'm eagerly anticipating delving deeper into her character in the other books.

"I'm not a victim. I'm vengeance, Mark my words, Mr. Maroni. I am going to make you pay - for every single scar you've put on Tristan; for every little hurt you inflicted on Dante; for banishing Amara from her home. And for all the girls who went missing."

╰┈➤ Tristan and Morana

Their relationship in this book was truly impressive. Despite my initial doubts, it exceeded my expectations. The progression felt genuine and well-paced, allowing the characters to build trust in each other naturally. What stood out to me was the authenticity in their interactions, as both characters made sincere efforts to understand and support one another. It was a refreshing portrayal of a developing bond that felt both relatable and heartfelt.

Tristan's decision to tattoo Morana's name on his ring finger, despite the obstacles preventing their marriage, spoke volumes about the depth of their connection. It was a gesture that resonated deeply, reflecting the complex emotions they shared, shaped by their turbulent pasts. Their story is one of profound significance, leaving an enduring imprint on my heart. I am certain that their characters will continue to occupy my thoughts long after I've turned the final page of their book.

"Your body, your life, your heart – they’re all mine now. Trust me to keep all of them safe.”

Overall, if you're in need of a riveting read that will hold your attention from beginning to end, this book is your perfect pick. Enjoyy! 🫶🏻

I 🫶🏼 Tristan and Morana SO. FREAKING. MUCH. I ~obviously~ adore this romance and our two main characters but I also LOVE how much is going on in the plot outside of the romance. We've got inner mob drama. We've got two rival mobs. We've got missing girls. We've got surprising plot reveals.

I think all my favorite romances combine romance AND mystery which this book does with the mystery subplot. Also also! One of my favoriteeee series is The Mindfck series. I've been searching for a book that would give me the same feeling and love I had toward the mindfck series & this series is doing that!!

I'm a tiny bit sad the next book in the series follows a new couple because I could read about Tristan & Morana forever but I'm also excited to read Dante and Amara's story.

"And then his voice, the voice of whiskey and sin, spoke in death."

Oh my god. This book was so hard to read because you have one Tristan Caine and one Morana vitalio who are so hot and their tension explodes everything so it was very hard to read without getting sucked in WHICH I GOT and then was left wanting more as it ended.. and like the way the story revolves around them and weaves its path along the way is so beautiful. The journey that these two book alone take us on are so well written and so fun to read. I honestly dont know which book I like more!! it switches between this and the emperor. Last time it was this soo lets see what book I like more this time.

"She was his gravity, his fucking planet, and he was lost without her."

Again, I loved Runyx's storytelling in this book. It was just pure class. The way she was able show affection and emotions from Tristan' and Moranas scenes were so perfectly done and again I liked how she kept a balance between the romance and the plot. She really mad eme feel about the character without giving everything about the book to them and honestly I applaud her for the pacing becuase it's so fast but it's also not rushed?? so it is so fun to read and her writing itself is so fun. I think I have read it so much that the repetitive nature of this book didn bother me as it does most of the people. One more thing about these books that I like are how they get more darker with each book (we are not counting the finisher)

"If you burned as I burn with the need to claim you. That I wasn’t alone in the fire."

There were no new tropes to be honest but some prominent ones were:
Who did this to you?,
When he gets sick and she takes care of him
When she gets sick and he takes care of her.
Found family
Angst
Spice
Lots of staring

"You are exactly where you were supposed to be,” he told her, his voice leaving no room for doubts. “I know exactly who you are.” “Who am I?” “Mine."

Tristan, I still love this blue eyed cutie who calls himself the predator and hunts people down but is downbad for Morana. I loved how he was with Morana how he cared for her and how he showed affections by his actions and not only by his words. I actually really want hear his voice now (I still dont know why this series doesnt have an audiobook) because I'm so intrigued to see what whiskey and sin actually sounds like. We were robbed of more bike scenes, that is one of my mainc omplaint becuase there was one scene in the predator that I liked sooo much, the one where Morana lifts her hands up and screams in joy as she sits behind Tristan remains as one of my favourites for sure. His story actually broke my heart and his quest to find his sister broke it even further.

"I’m not a victim. I’m vengeance."

Morana, this book proved that 'wildcat' is among one of the best female leads written. How she dealt with Tristan and gave him time and space was really what made me love her even more than I thought was possible. She was so nice to him and her friendship with Amara really blossomed too but I wish we got more of there scenes. What I love the most is how close Dante and Morana became. Like literally one of the cutest found family moments here. There was a part of this book that made me appreciate Moranas firendship with Amara and her contribution to the plot as well. I think I love it when FMC's delivered and Morana for me delivered. Also, I felt so sad for Morana by the end of this book, she deserves everything!!

"You,” she whispered to the space between them, “Tristan Caine, are a beautiful, beautiful man. And my heart beats for you."

Romance, there was communication which was imo dealt with in a really good way between both the characters. I loved the intense staring, the overall vibe and the hotness the Tristan snd Morana eluded had me sweating. Everything that they said to each other, every jab, every snarky remark had me bouncing off the walls. There's a reasonw hy they're the best couple and why they have the highest rated book and like come on!! no one compares to them and the spice was honestly so very spicy even more than the first book but still balanced overall. Tristan and Morana had me 🧎 🙏 I love them so much. The epilogue was everything I loved it. I honestly want so much more from them in the syndicator you dont even know.

"He wanted to tell her that love was too tame a word for everything that happened inside him where she was concerned. She had shifted him, realigned him from the inside out. Like a planet that suddenly pulls a moon into its orbit, she had bound him to her, given him direction for longer than she knew, gave him purpose to exist."

The plot and the action scenes along with the world building in this book was top notch. One of the best out there. The action sequences were so good and yk the feeling of dread when you feel that something might happen to a character you love? Yeah that happened alot here. Despite having alot if action sequences and stunts my favourite would be Tristan meeting Morana inside her house from the predator. The last half of this book was dropping twists after twists. My jaw was on the floor, and it refused to go back up. The end hurt me so much but overall it was amazing!!

"I'm so in love with you, caveman."
"You can't take that back."

Finally, Dante and Amara the side characters were as always so much fun to read about and Im loving their book even more. The only thing I wanted in this book were povs from Tristan's side like got from Dantes in the emperor.
_
cant believe this is the only TristanMorana book until the last one 🥺 Idk whether to savor or devour this (devour 🙂‍↕️) Reread#2 😝

”you’re the girl I killed for and you’re the woman I’d die for.”

there are times when you aren’t prepared for a book. not prepared enough for an agonizing read that wrecks your soul in tatters and then stitches the fragments back together. not prepared to fall for morally questionable but attaching characters, questing for the forgiveness drown in their past and present mistakes. not enough prepared to be captured between the pages of a new world ruled by a gripping and masterminding plot, seeking for answers by eroding the blurred barrier between the past and present lies. I was taken aback by Morana and Tristan's story. the two books dedicated to their epic telling exceeded my expectations in terms of depth, scheming, and brain.

His demons dance with mine,” she murmured softly, the truth of that statement seeping into her pores.”

I can be easily seduced by well-written books and bewitched under the spell of their writing. & it’s precisely what occurred with this book and the previous one. i was enchanted by RuNyx’s melodic and poignant plume from the very first words of 'The Predator'. it has such an eloquent voice that melancholically and ironically sang with the ruthless universe the author moulded in the vicinity of 'The Dark Verse Series'. every word had a herd of stumbling meanings behind it. every cryptic quote and phrasing mirrored one too many poetic significances.

” And he had. Even before she had asked him to make a choice, he already had. Even before he knew that she knew, he had wanted to protect her. Even before she had exposed herself to him the way she had, he had wanted her.”

Tristan and Morana. Morana and Tristan. both of them were wounded souls whose pasts and fates were strangely and cruelly entangled. every tiny, twisted, and dark parcel of one of them was in symbiosis with the second one. while the dynamic between them was not typical, it was a masterpiece of enemies to lovers’ arc. it started with them as morbid rivals; their animosity and hatred suffocatingly intense. their pursuit to harm or kill each other untempered.

”Some days, he felt like he would
explode with the emotions she pulled from his once-dead heart.”

but it eventually converged with them being an entity; their empathy and hurt for each other, their love and devotion, their acceptance and approval of one another. In every sense of the word, they perfectly completed each other. ❤️‍🩹

”Morana held him through the pain, her own eyes tearing up as he cried in her arms.”
this scene broke me.

Wayyyy better than the first book. I swear I had the time of my life with this one.

My issues with the first book was that the second half was super underwhelming and this one was the exact opposite. The second half here was so action packed, chemistry packed and the plot twist towards the end took it all up a notch. There was still a lot of repetition when it came to "whiskey and sin voice" but having an idea about it beforehand helped. The book had me so immersed that am willing to ignore it this time around... and that's saying something👀

Tristan and Morana have my heart. These two are so perfect for each other, especially Morana who is so patient with him. She gives him space, she lets him be vulnerable and open, never forcing, never controlling and it's so admirable to me. Tristan... My man truly is whiskey and sin (yeah yeah, I know I caved in.. Besides I read it so many times, am used to it now.) I absolutely LOVED him in this one. An underrated thing about him? He doesn't talk rubbish. He doesn't babble. He just talks enough, and it's so meaningful. Basically, he's not one to eat your head. He was so much more in this one. The man radiates power, charm and sex.. and he knows it 👀 *sigh* Why is he fictional 😭

Their relationship had so much depth in this one. They're so much more than just spice tbh. The way they're loyal to each other and the way they understand each other is EVERYTHING!! I love a relationship without any toxicity, there was no miscommunication, just open, honest talks and a whole lotta trust. The way they can just communicate with each other by their expressions and body language 🤌🤌

Am definitely intrigued by the world created by RuNyx and what role the Syndicate has to play in the future. The ending was perfect imo and especially that epilogue 🥺🥺 Also, Dante baby am coming for you and Amara soon. I really hope he doesn't talk in whiskey and sin tho.

Whiskey and sin voice count- Innumerable.

again suggesting y'all to reread this duet as much as possible and fall in love w them again.

Tristan & Morana's love story is a whirlwind of sweetness and intensity, and it’s impossible not to swoon over them. they're the definition of chaotic love! they prove that sometimes love is all about the little moments that make your heart race.

“You think it will ever go away?”

never. i'm so damn obsessed with them, it's insane now. i've memorized all of his lines, but I still scream whenever I read them. I've highlighted them so many times 😭 this book has such domestic, possessive, and intense scenes, and every single one is so amazing that I practically go crazy over it. the amount of loneliness i feel after reading it is also something else.

tristan got this fierce protective instinct that totally makes my heart melt. he knew that bringing Morana to Tenebrae with him wouldn't be the best option, but he did what was right for both of them. he's so possessive of her, and to be honest, it's addictive. idk what i would've done had we read his pov. dante told him NOT to bring her, but he was all 'she comes with me,' and i just melted.

his love language is small acts of affection and physical touch. he pours every bit of love he has into her because he’s never had anyone do that for him. it hurts yet makes me feel warm. they both deserve the best 😭💗

tristan's 'don't invade my territory' line in book one makes his whole telling morana to move in with him much more beautiful because HE'S LETTING HER IN. that was the last thread stopping both of them from giving their ALL to each other, and he broke that too 🥺

“Morana looked at the bar of chocolate, her eyes flying towards the man extending it towards her, stunned. He was giving her chocolate.”

he could've let things go after helping her with the panic attack, but this was just so thoughtful of him. these little things might be normal, but they sure as heck aren't for them 🥺

⌞ Mr. caveman⌝

possessive/jealous tristan caine is something you shouldn't miss out on. it's seriously not for the faint-hearted skshjss i literally send screenshots to every friend and keep on crying because damn, if i'm not jealous.

literally what they say about quiet men is so true. they're legit so freaky when they start speaking 🤭

“Touch her without permission again, and I will break you.”

“What I feel isn’t jealousy, wildcat. It’s knowing you’re mine and knowing I still have to share you with people. It’s a burn in my chest. It makes me want to put you over my shoulder, take you to a cave, and love you until you forget everything but how I feel inside you.”

description

“She almost dropped her spoon when a hand went under the slit of her dress, holding her inner thigh like it had every right to. She knew what he was doing. He was testing her.”

description

“Call her a whore one more time,” Tristan continued, “and what I did to my father will look like a child’s play compared to what I’ll do to you.”

“And anytime you forget that, just remember how I killed my father when I was a boy for her. And think of the people I can kill now that I am a man to keep her safe.”

description

AHHHHH 📈📉📈📉

these scenes are literally so close to my heart, and i'm so down bad for him! he cares for her so much. she's always on his mind. i saw a post about how he hated her for years, yet he never did anything to hurt her physically or emotionally, and if that isn’t the truest thing ever. he had every chance to do exactly that YET he never did. he's the purest person ever 😭

⌞ his wildcat⌝

i love Morana! she's the most mature and amazing character ever written. she doesn't even whine or have many expectations and is just so simple with everything. she understands him so well and is always making efforts for him too. her trauma is so overlooked, but my heart hurts for how she was treated throughout her life and doesn’t even know her real name 💔 it was just so sad.

also her interactions with Lorenzo & Chiara were so damn funny wkshwjjs the way she roasted the shit out of them 💀 like bitches? she's not a meek doormat ajshjs BESIDES she also calls chiara 'lizard' in Amara's book and Tristan is ALL SUPPORTING HER 😭

description

cutest stuff
their whole morning routine with tristan cooking food for her, her helping him out. with tristan also making the bed sometimes and him loving Morana's whole skincare routine. these little things make everything so adorable. each scene of them makes so much sense, as if words aren't even needed.

chapter 15 - morana: “I want to be able to walk into a room and know, without an iota of doubt, that the man I have claimed is only mine.”

epilogue - tristan: “But I never, ever want you to not walk into a room and know that every part of me, fucked-up man and the lost boy, belongs to you.”

he gets her name tattooed on his ring finger, and the fact that he remembered her exact words… isn’t he so sweet 😔

- “his body encased in a black suit, black shirt, and no tie. Everyone was wearing a tie.”

from runyx's story - so basically he doesn't know how to tie a tie because no one ever taught him how to. BUT Morana sometimes does it for him 🥺
description

the whole scene when she was attacked and cried on tristan's chest was just so damn sweet. she was hurt, he was there, and how he calmed her and took care of her AAAHH 😩

they're intense but never toxic, broken but not irreparable, and they're so wholly pure and obsessive for each other. they're love. i'm just so ready for the last book and looking forward to their wedding 🥺

“She was his gravity, his fucking planet, and he was lost without her.”

Tristan and Morana will never be out of my system. The Reaper is a masterpiece and one of the best books I have ever read in my life. I felt an undeniable connection to this book, its characters, and their love story, and my love for Tristan and Morana has only ignited into a fiery blaze after reading the next part of their journey. This is, without a doubt, RuNyx’s best work, and I will never deny this fact in the future.

“They were similar - she and him. Two sides of the same coin, two ends of the same string.”

The Reaper follows the epic and unforgettable love story of Tristan and Morana, continuing the mind-blowing, interconnected plotline of the Dark Verse series after the cliffhanger at the end of the previous book. It picks up right where The Predator ended, but this time, it’s more thrilling, more gory, more mysterious, more dark—more EPIC. The past and present unravel alongside secrets and lies that have been blurred and buried for decades by The Syndicate, and RuNyx masterfully handles every arc of the story.

Morana Vitalio is a force to be reckoned with. She’s fire—untamed and fierce. Her perseverance, boldness, protectiveness, and patience speak volumes about what an incredible and exceptional woman she is. Morana is perfection in every sense. I admire her bravery and inner strength—the way she fights for and protects the people she loves, how she’s always the first to step forward, ready to be helpful and resourceful when needed. She is THE woman. A formidable force. An unapologetic queen with the intelligence to destroy everything in her path. A courageous and brave woman who can crumble even the strongest, most impenetrable walls built around the most dangerous man in their world. I love how she never stopped loving Tristan—how, despite her trauma and heartache, she still finds joy in the little things, how she consistently pours her love, care, and patience into building a relationship with a man who once swore to kill her. That kind of love is rare.

“I’m not a victim. I’m vengeance, Mark my words, Mr. Maroni. I am going to make you pay - for every single scar you’ve put on Tristan; for every little hurt you inflicted on Dante; for banishing Amara from her home. And for all the girls who went missing.”

Tristan Caine is a man who needs to be protected at all costs. A boy who was broken beyond repair by the very people who were supposed to protect and love him. A weapon trained to kill. A man with a singular purpose—to end the girl who unknowingly set his life on its dark trajectory. Tristan in The Predator was dangerous and cruel, but Tristan in The Reaper is a man who is learning and trying. Learning to show emotions. Learning to be vulnerable. Learning what it means to have someone see him—not as the monster the world believes him to be, but as the man Morana knows he is. It was deeply emotional to witness him unveiling his feelings, lowering his defenses, and letting Morana in. He was so soft in this book. So thoughtful. Letting Morana take care of him, letting himself feel everything he tried to bury for years—his obsession, his protectiveness, his love for her. I love how he is trying. His character development is phenomenal. He is sharing everything with her—his space, his thoughts, his vulnerability, his emotions, his past, and his future.

“They will die a thousand deaths,” he murmured, “before they ever touch a single hair on your head again.”

Tristan and Morana are intrinsically tied to each other—two souls forged in darkness yet drawn together by something deeper than fate. She is his reason to live and breathe—his kryptonite, his weakness, his strength, his everything. Witnessing their love blossom into something more than just friendship, more than just healing, was an honor, to be honest. Their relationship development in this book was perfectly executed. They let each other in—not just into their lives but into their pasts, offering one another their rawest truths and deepest vulnerabilities. Together, they peeled back the carefully guarded layers around their hearts, healing each other in ways neither of them thought possible.

“You, Tristan Caine, are a beautiful, beautiful man. And my heart beats for you.”

Their love story is a testament to the transformative power of trust and honesty. They built something real—a bond that transcended pain and tragedy, a semblance of happiness in a world steeped in darkness. Tristan and Morana built their relationship on a foundation of trust and honesty, allowing them to break free from the walls they had spent years constructing. Watching Tristan open up to Morana, allowing her to understand him, to hold him, to heal him, to love him unconditionally, was both emotionally profound and utterly captivating.

“You might have been born with another name but you are Morana. My Morana. You’re the girl I killed for and you’re the woman I’d die for. You are mine and you are exactly where you’re supposed to be. Don’t ever question that again, do you understand?”

There’s no denying how gorgeous and magnificent RuNyx’s writing and prose are. I get lost in her stories every time, and this one is no different. The way she weaves a storyline filled with allegorical metaphors, vivid imagery, deeply complex and well-developed characters, and love stories that make you feel an entire spectrum of emotions is breathtaking. This book masterfully showcased the soft, wholesome, fierce, and vulnerable sides of both Tristan and Morana, interwoven with the broken pieces of their pasts. Every moment, every stolen glance, every whispered confession built a love story that was as hauntingly real as it was breathtakingly beautiful.

This series has consumed my thoughts and my life. Tristan and Morana have touched my heart, my soul, in an irrevocable way, and I will always carry them with me.

Is it too early to say I’m obsessed? might’ve just been the thrill of it all, but ya'll, I had an amazing time with this. This book solidified my love for these two 🥹

Burn the world down by Chris grey. thats it. go listen. It’s all i listened to besides a few other songs to match the vibes

tristan and morana were such a powerhouse to read about here. their chemistry and intimacy so much more palpable and I swooned and was so immersed in every one of their moments. The build up to them being enemies initially to full on lovers here was DONE WELL and beautifully captured. both of them were left to explore their new dynamic in this book aside from also being met with this intricate plot where little to everything was happening. to me it was fairly more character driven which was ok as there was more; depth, vulnerability, softer moments, growth, some answers, higher stakes?, and the tension soo much more satisfying

"He wanted to tell her that love was too tame a word for everything that happened inside him where she was concerned…She was his gravity, his fucking planet, and he was lost without her.”

tbh, the less talkative a man is, the better, and Tristan.. the man that he is left me swooning 🫠 I love how the men in this series, so far as I’m reading the emperor, love so similarly intense yet distinctively in their way. the way he loves isn’t loud but felt all the same through his silence, his words, EVERY ACTION and through his touch. their silent conversations held such meaning. i believe their connection was strongly felt through them (they say the eyes are the window to our soul—cliche but true). his protectiveness over Morana even while she could stand on her own, the way he anchored her, her mere existence forcing him to confront parts of himself that allowed him to correspond to her form of love bit by bit, aside from his unwavering loyalty—I loved it all. I LOVE HIM & THEM. How he opened up from the past that continues to haunt him but made room in his heart for her?! 😩 his POV fed me so well. I can’t wait for more

"His demons dance with mine,” she murmured softly, the truth of that statement seeping into her pores.”

Morana’s perseverance, fierceness, patience, perceptiveness, and just the way she feels so much—all spoke to me on the intricacies of her character. I adore her for all that she is. She’s both beauty and brains and while we didn’t get too much of that I know it’ll be taken into account as the plot develops. Seeing her trying to open up some level of communication between her and Tristan was nice to see, considering their traumas, as it was paramount to building trust and safety between them. All that made me realize how everything happening between them was new to explore for not only Tristan but her as well so I met that with a better understanding. other than, wanting to know what went on in his mind, yet not pressuring him to speak, since she knew his emotional processing was dissimilar to hers and it was appreciated. I just wanted to give them both the biggest hug and loved how they knew how to anchor each other. I also enjoyed when she spoke her mind as it made for some funny moments when challenging each other 😂

The tension during the weapons scene, mirror scene, the hotel, his home, calming her down and that tattoo?! I have no words except I devoured them all and am down bad I fear

I’m sad we won’t be getting their pov again until the finale. But I can’t wait to know more about the grander things at play!! the turn out here was WILD and left me with some questions, even with Dante and Amara as things seemed off. I had a feeling something was up with that particular person. And I just know that reunion is gonna hit hard.

the predator

Some quotes

“You are exactly where you were supposed to be,” he told her, his voice leaving no room for doubts. “I know exactly who you are.” “Who am I?” “Mine.” You’re the girl I killed for and you’re the woman I’d die for. You are mine and you are exactly where you’re supposed to be.“ 🥹 I’d also love to be his

His hand flexed on her throat. "Do you know why I enjoy holding you like this?" “I can feel your life under my hand," he stated, his eyes burning on hers, his fingers locking her life to him. "Your body, your life, your heart - they're all mine now. Trust me to keep all of them safe." ❤️‍🔥 these words AND how he always did this did something to me 😭

“From what I know, you don’t have a lot of experience in relationships,” he said. “In fact, your one ex was a thief who sold you out.” “And I let him die, didn’t I?” Point made. Lmao i died bc they’re both right

“You Tristan Caine, are a beautiful, beautiful man. My heart beats for you”

“Don’t play these juvenile games with me, Tristan. I will cut you open and eat you alive.” He looked down at her, his eyes searching hers, a softness in his gaze. “There she is.” “I just wanted to see something,” “If you burned as I burn with the need to claim you. That I wasn’t alone in the fire.”

“The man holding her was darkness. He was comfortable in the dark. One with the dark, owned the dark. And as long as he held her the way he did, safe in his arms, that dark was hers.”

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
Sigh ok im fine now.
….
Ok I lied, AAAAAAAAAAAAA!!
OK NOW IM OK.

Once again I have to start this review by saying that I'm not a romance girly and even less a dark romance girly, so I don't know if this is the standard dark romance, if it is more or less dark than normal, etc.

Before delving further into my opinion of the book, I have to say that this is a 4.5✰ star rounded up. The main reason for the rounding was that the plot twist caught me. I was basically left bald and staring at the horizon for 5 long minutes. And only for that, and for how good the plot and the characters are, it deserves 5✰ stars.

'Yes, Mr. Caine. Of course, Mr. Caine. Anything else, Mr. Caine?’

╔═.⍴ᥣ᥆𝗍. ════╗

A+ 10/10 would bang. I can't talk about the plot since it continues exactly where The Predator ends, I will only say that we still don't know who has stolen the codes, that the story gets more complicated due to the latest events and that a new mystery opens up, who is The Reaper?

I swear, even if you don't like dark romance, please give these books a chance just because of how good the plot is!!

'She had found something immensely precious in their world, a diamond in the coals, a lotus in the mud. And she vowed to cherish it, cherish him, as he deserved.'

╔═.⍴ᥲᥴᥱ ᥲᥒძ ᥕrі𝗍іᥒg. ════╗

The writing is fast, still a little erratic, but the pacing of the story is excellent in my opinion, there was always something going on, and when the plot slowed down a little, the romance came to the fore and kept the pace going.

I'm going to dedicate a short paragraph to the smut, so if you're not comfortable with that, skip to the character part:

Once again I found it weirdly hot, although it is true that some scenes did give me some cringe. What I did not like is how in moments that were so important in the plot or that were not necessary, the scenes had a sexual touch, and I was like: EHEM, PEOPLE ARE DYING BRO, CAN WE FOCUS?

╔═.ᥴһᥲrᥲᥴ𝗍ᥱrs. ════╗

⌖ 𝕸᥆rᥲᥒᥲ ᥲᥒძ 𝕿rіs𝗍ᥲᥒ⌖: I have already talked about them individually in my previous review, so now I will only talk about their relationship. CHASE ATLANTIC CODED COUPLE, IF THIS DOESNT CONVINCE YOU, I DONT KNOW WHAT WILL. In this book the romance convinced me much more, I saw much more depth in their relationship, especially on Tristan's part, his story is really painful and every small gesture of love he had for Morana warmed my heart. This time his dialogues were much greater so the health of his eyes no longer worries me as much.(I seriously should stop bullying him). Their connection is very deep and even painful due to both of their pasts. I don't want to say much more about them, except that they have made a place in my heart and I know that I will not stop thinking about them.

'he had offered her a place behind those walls that sheltered him'

'And now that he was denying her those magnificent eyes of his, she realized how much she had come to rely upon them to read him.'

'His demons dance with mine,' she murmured softly, the truth of that statement seeing into her pores. 'That's all I can give you.'

'In the arms of the most dangerous man she knew, she felt the safest she had ever been.'

‘I don’t just burn with you, Tristan,’ she said, her voice shaking. 'I burn for you. And I don't know what I have to do to prove it.'

⌖𝕯ᥲᥒ𝗍ᥱ 𝕸ᥲr᥆ᥒі⌖: I FELL FOR HIM. I am a weak bitch for this man, im sorry. I really liked that in this book he had much more prominence, both his relationship with Morana and Tristan are very strong, each in their own way. I'm really excited to think that the next book is about him and Amara. ANYWAYS DANTE MY KING.

‘She had found a true friend in Amara and a protector in Dante. And she had found, under all the madness and chaos, Tristan. Tristan. Just Tristan.’

╔═.𝗊ᥙ᥆𝗍ᥱs ᥲᥒძ m᥆mᥱᥒ𝗍s. ════╗

Some quotes and moments i enjoyed, this could contain spoilers, so be careful when reading:

‘the sound of her laughter, unfamiliar even to her, ringing out in the large space, making her cheeks hurt, her stomach hurt, making her hurt. Laughing shouldn’t hurt. But it did. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d laughed. She couldn’t remember what she even sounded like then.’

‘The cool blade pressed against her skin in a way that reassured her. She wondered what it said about her, the fact that she found the lethal weapon comforting.’

‘And for the first time since she had known him, she saw a smile crack his face. It was small, just a little curve of lips, but it was genuine and it was there. And it tilted her world on its axis because he had a dimple. He. Had. A. Fucking. Dimple. She stared at it in surprise, somehow thrown by such a simple thing, wondering who had been the last person to see that dimple.’

‘You assume, with your limited mind women only make two good things—wives and whores. I’m neither. What I am is a woman who has been freed from the shackles men like you had bound me to. What I am is a woman who knows that freedom thanks to two good men who've made me believe again.’

‘She’s under my protection. Mine. Nobody hurts her. Nobody talks shit about her. Not me, not you, not anyone. Next time I hear you call her anything less than the woman she is, I will cut your tongue out and feed it to your dogs. Next time I see you anywhere close to her, I will kill you. Stay. The. Fuck. Away. From. Her. Do you understand?’

‘Never again’, he whispered, his voice rough with an edge of the wildness she’d seen in his eyes. It sent a delicious shiver down her spine. ‘They will die a thousand deaths,’ he murmured, almost gently as his thumb traced the line of her jaw, ‘before they ever touch a single hair on your head again.’ And then, with that deathly vow still echoing in her heart, he pressed his lips to her fluttering pulse. ‘I promise,’ his lips wrote against her skin.

‘Tell me again,’ he demanded, jerking her again. Morana looked into his gaze, seeing the lost boy and the lovable man, both of whom he kept hidden from the world, and told him. ‘I’m in love with you, Tristan Caine. I don’t expect you to say it back. I don’t need you to. I just need you to keep on loving me.’

‘You might have been born with another name but you are Morana. My Morana. You’re the girl I killed for and you’re the woman I’d die for. You are mine and you are exactly where you’re supposed to be. Don’t ever question that again, do you understand?’

╔═.s⍴᥆іᥣᥱrs. ════╗

Holy shit ok, so the reaper Morana REAL father I really did not expect that. I was texting siff and I literally lost it when this was revealed.

I’m really intrigued of how the three of them will work now that both Lorenzo and Gabriel are dead, and I fucking need Dante’s book!! I hope to read it very soon.

Re-read #2 (9/7/2024) 5 Stars.

I’m obsessed with them. The romance. The suspense. The twists. Their interactions and chemistry. It was all so good!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
4.5 stars
”You,” she whispered to the space between them, “Tristan Caine, are a beautiful, beautiful man. And my heart beats for you.”
My initial rating was going to be 4.5 rounded down, but while I’m writing this, I’ve already finished the third book as well (I still need to gather my thoughts for that one) and I’ve realised that I’ve grown really attached to those characters and this world with all it’s action and reveals. So you know what? I’m rounding up! I had the best time reading these books! The plot is just amazing. This series has definitely become one of my all time favourite mafia romances and it needs more love!!
“I know exactly who you are.”
“Who am I?”
“Mine.”
This book starts off where the previous one ended. after that long awaited epic kiss! Tristan ana Morana are amazing! I loved them together and loved seeing them navigate this relationship thing. Tristan is just so freakin mute and at times I was begging him to speak more, but when he opens his mouth?? Ahh he got me swooning so hard! And I love how Morana was patient with him. I just love that blue eyed boy and his nerd so much and I freakin loved their baby steps development.
”I’m in so love with you, caveman.”
She saw his eyes flare slightly, his hand coming to rest around her neck, gripping her firmly. “You can’t take that back,” he warned her fiercely.
This series surprised me in the best way. The plot is just amazing and got me so invested with its many reveals and all those answers I still need. The characters are so easy to love. I’ve got tiny little issues with this book that I completely forgot about after finishing this. I just had the greatest time reading this and I guess that means it deserve a round up.
#1 The predator - 4.5 stars
#2 The Reaper - 5 stars
#3 The Emperor - 5 stars
I'm undecided on my rating... 3.5 Stars but I'm just not sure I want to round up. No doubt, I enjoyed this one much more than the first one, however I'm so sick of the repetitive prose.
No one can tell me that RuNyx doesn't have an obsession with EYES. FRTC soon for book 1 and 2. I promise 😅
Is she your weakness, Predator?
🐚𓆉︎ 𝐓𝗋𝗂𝗌𝗍αn
Watching him go from an emotionally held back person to someone professing their vulnerability was literary enchantment at it's finest. I remember tearing up at his past in book 1 and it was equally heartbreaking to get a slightly deeper glimpse into it. I still stand by the fact that he is one of the finest men in the DR genre, always respecting his partner and protecting her in a healthy way without belittling her feelings. My most favorite instances being his admiration for Morana's smartness, no male ego shattered whatsoever. He actually admitted to feeling like an idiot in front of her which was so adorable and I actually respect this particular view towards her.
But I never, ever want you to not walk into a room and know that every part of me, fucked up man and the lost boy, belong to you.
🐚𓆉︎ 𝐌ⱺ𝗋αnα
I might as well run out of adjectives to describe her. She is a perfect package of brains combined with lethal femininity. I liked the advancement of her character esp. in taking the lead when it comes to moving forward in their relationship, it was extremely courageous and soothing. Courageous because she had her own baggage but she never gave up on Tristan and herself. We are not at all new to third act breakups, staying away from their partner because staying together is dangerous and what not and Morana mostly being the one on the receiving end never fell prey to any of these.
Morana growled, pushing him into the wall, glaring at him. “Don’t play these juvenile games with me, Tristan. I will cut you open and eat you alive.”
He looked down at her, his eyes searching hers, a softness in his gaze. “There she is.”
🐚𓆉︎ 𝐓𝗋𝗂𝗌𝗍αn & 𝐌ⱺ𝗋αnα
The furtherance of their relationship was done immaculately. I nearly lost my breath when they hugged each other for the first time, we all really made it so far! The trope where two damaged people are each other's pillars of strength hits you in the fucking sternum every time. There was an instance where Morana urged him to open up and he said "later" and this is so important rather than ridiculing the emotional intention of the other person. I admire this healthy depiction of relationships and that too in a dark romance .👏🏻👏🏻 Book couples really need to take notes from them.
It was a blaze now, a blaze which wanted to destroy. Him. She would destroy him for anyone else.
ʀᴇᴀꜱᴏɴ ʙᴇʜɪɴᴅ ᴍʏ ʀᴀᴛɪɴɢ
I am usually not a fan of reading different books about the same couple and I get it that the 1st book didn't really shed any light onto their relationship so, this book was a necessary addition. But, it felt unnecessarily long to me. When I started this book and got to a good chunk of 30%, the slump got to me and I stopped reading for nearly 17 days even after being done with my exams. There were some paras describing Tristan's house by the lake a handful times which really felt like a drag on. Another being the constant repetition of phrases like "whiskey and sin spoke", "whiskey and sin entered the room", "the predator did so and so". There wasn't really anything concrete happening for a good part of the book.
Coming to the twist, I guessed it way before I began this book. It felt stupid and was just added to preserve the 'shock' value and failed for me. And the foremost issue being the time limit dedicated to the mystery, how come you concluded it and few deaths in 2 fucking pages? When the mystery was the focal point of the book aside from their relationship. I was close to dropping this book many times but I didn't want to betray my babies.
This was overall a 3.5 read, had to increase the rating because-
➞ Men crying does it for me.
➞ I liked the way Runyx orchestrated the ending by relating things to how they began in book 1.
➞ Tristan and Morana because there's nothing wrong with them.
I'm looking forward to DanteAmara and I'm already so fiercely protective of Amara. I will def be needing a break from the series for a while, might as well switch genres for the time being.
2.5★'s
From how the last book ended and this book started, my hopes were up.
And whilst there were parts of the book I definitely did enjoy, ultimately this was a disappointment.
This might be a bit ranty here on out. I had more to say than I thought I did lol 😅
For me that disappointment mainly falls down to the romance. I have devoured their tension and enjoyed how they've cared for one another, but in this book I wanted more.
The "romance" is basically just Morona making assumptions. He doesn't want her dead, so now they're suddenly boyfriend and girlfriend. Bestie, don't you think that one requires a conversation? And it all felt so awkward with her apparently being the queen of relationships and going off about "you know we're in a committed relationship right?".
Well this is the first I am hearing about it.
I know her making assumptions is supposed to be seen as caring, a "she knows him better than anybody else"-type thing, but the fact is it just reads very condescending.
"Expecting him to understand emotional nuances and express them would be wrong"
"She doubted he even realized that he loved her"
He is his own person. Not giving him space to communicate and instead making assumptions is wrong.
And him testing her? It gave me the biggest ick and I couldn't get into it at all after that.
I stand by Morona being an unlikeable character, and not in a good way. No wonder she never had any friends(sorry too far?) She is so full of herself. Why is she stating she is a genius every five seconds, but does nothing to actually live up to that. If you're gonna build a character that is very proud of her intellect, I expect her intelligence be a key part to solve the mystery and her being knee deep in the investigation. Instead she was just a pawn for everybody else.
I did like her in her battles with Mr. Maroni, but then when she didn't do any of the revenge she promised even that just feels phoney and like she's boosting her own skills(but having none).
Although it's lighthearted, her username being "Nerdy Tech Goddess" tells me everything I need to know about her. She has so many cringe moments that made me want to drop this book in the nearest ocean.
"Morana mentally patted herself on the back for a blowjob well done. The gods of oral would be proud" I nearly cried reading that. And idk about you, but personally I won't forgive her for being a bad friend to Amara.
Even though I was disappointed with how it developed I did enjoy myself a lot for the first half.
I enjoyed Tristans protectiveness, how the plot deepened, Dante and Moranas kinship, Zia.
The writing didn't seem as painful as well - however, there were definitely moments where the writing did take me out of the story. Like a "Whiskey and Sin" one or ten times too much.
I know I will enjoy Amara & Dantes story more, but right now I desperately need a break from this writing or I will actually go insane.
sorry for the messy and ranty review, it was cathartic getting all of this out though ngl
“You,Tristan Caine, are a beautiful, beautiful man. And my heart beats for you.”
I feel this quote sums up how I feel. I absolutely love Tristan Caine and the man that he is! This man will kill for her, make her breakfast, give her chocolate, wash her hair, and die for her. PLEASE GIVE ME THIS MAN! I feel he has ruined me but in such a good way because I don't know if any other book boyfriend can match up to him, even though I am really hoping Dante does the same.
"He would be her ruin. And she would ruin him right back."
This book starts off right where the first one left off. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book but when I say I loved this one, I mean I LOVED this one. The little things that fell short for me in the first book, the author came back and hit it out of the park with this one. The chapters were shorter and this one I felt was a lot more plot driven. You think you are addicted to a book until you read the next one and it is even more addicting!🤣 I wanted more of Amara but I know she has her own books coming up so it didn't take away from this one at all. By the end of it I felt so many emotions and was so in love with it I just wanted to scream!!!
જ⁀➴TRISTAN & MORANA
These two are literally perfect for each other. Nobody else could handle Tristan Caine. Morana is intelligent yet she spits fire and that is just what he needs. Tristan is a deadly predator that protects her to the end of the world and thats what she needs. They are two halfs that make each other whole and watching their development is the intoxicating ride that it was. Runyx did an amazing job at staying true to Tristan's character. For a man of very few words she found ways to show how he cares through his actions. Morana has all the patience in the world for this man and that is what makes them so special. She doesn't try to "fix" him, she just loves him for who he is. Her heart breaks for him and yet she is strong for him, she loves him and gives him the space he needs. They are each other's oxygen in a world of suffocation. Omg i could go on forever and I would never do them justice. I can't not think of a single fictional couple that has had me in such a chokehold as these two.
“I will tell you this—I don’t want to fix him. I want to fix me. And he’s the only thing that seems to be working. His demons dance with mine”
જ⁀➴DANTE
Dante is the cool and collected opposite of Tristan. He is the brother and friend that Tristan and Morana need. He makes me laugh and he is always there to defend and protect those he love. I can't wait to read his story and learn more about him and the way his mind works. Dante I beg that you ruin me the way that Tristan has!
જ⁀➴FAVORITE QUOTES
"The man holding her was darkness. He was comfortable in the dark, one with the dark, owned the dark. And as long as he held her the way he did, safe in his arms, that dark was hers. It belonged to her. She was comfortable in it, safe in it, one with it."
“If you burned as I burn with the need to claim you. That I wasn’t alone in the fire.”
"You’re the girl I killed for and you’re the woman I’d die for. You are mine and you are exactly where you’re supposed to be. Don’t ever question that again, do you understand?”
"She had shifted him, realigned him from the inside out. Like a planet that suddenly pulls a moon into its orbit, she had bound him to her, given him direction for longer than she knew, gave him purpose to exist. She was his gravity, his fucking planet, and he was lost without her."
REDEMPTION!!!!! I am so glad I listened to all my besties that told me to hang in there bc this book was FIRE!
The follow-up to The Predator starts right where we left Morana and Tristan. Now they are on a mission to find out what happened to the codes and the mystery surrounding the missing girls while surrounded by enemies and figuring out how their relationship will work in this volatile world of crime.
I loved how we got so much more information about Tristan in this book, he became a real person instead of just an idea and it was really well done. His relationship with Morana was so sweet and so many times I was saying awwww out loud! The way Morana just knows what he can and can't give and accepts him completely was really beautiful.
I also really, really love Dante and the friendship he has with Morana. I am so curious about his story and am really looking forward to reading it.
That last 20 percent though!!!! 🤯🤯🤯 Blew my mind, never saw that coming and the way everything played out was AMAZING!! Morana is a QUEEN!
The writing is still a little goofy sometimes with all the stream of consciousness monologuing but since I had managed my expectations for this from the previous book I didn't mind it so much. So thks again to my besties who encouraged to me to hang in there bc it was totally worth it and YOU WERE ALL RIGHT!!!
