The title of this book says it all. It is a very peaceful book. A cozy cottage in a beautiful wooded area. It made me long to be there curled up with a book and a cup of coffee.

When the story opens we learn that Lucy Cook has lost her husband. Due to the circumstances surrounding his death, she and her two teenage daughters have been ostracized by their family, friends, church and the entire community. Lucy and the girls make the decision to sell their home and move .... although they have no specific place in mind when they start their journey, they find the perfect spot.

This entire book is about a journey. A journey of healing, a journey of making a home with memories and mementos from their past life, a journey of acceptance, a journey of second chances and starting over.

We get to know Lucy and her daughters, Saffy and Delia, and see them blossom in their new home and new adventure. We witness them finally accepting the death of Lucy's husband and their father and just by being a part of their lives, we watch their mysterious landlord help them heal both physically and emotionally.

I enjoyed this peaceful book and the strength it portrayed.

Adorable, enchanting, poetically imaged--a sheer delight and glory to read. Couched in concentric circles of mysteries, readers will yearn to unfold the characters, each one a delight in her or his own right. Even the setting--quaint, homey, very-small-town East Winsett, Maine--is a Character not to be missed.

Race to read PEACE COTTAGE; then anticipate with joy the author's next.

Posted this review on my blog Little Calico's Journal

It’s been a long time since I’ve read a book that’s really quaint and peaceful, just like the title suggested. Peace Cottage is the perfect book if you want to read something warm, cozy and touching.

The book is about Lucy, a mother of two teenage daughters having to face life after she lost her husband to a tragic illness. Broken in her life and shunned by the community of her hometown after a decision she and her family made, Lucy decided to move out with her daughters Delia and Saffy in search for a new place to stay and start anew.

She found a place in East Winsett, Maine and rented a cottage in the woods. The cottage was beyond filthy when they started out but after some cleaning effort they began to appreciate its charm. But the previous condition of the cottage and its mysterious and reserved owner kept Lucy wondering the history of the cottage.

Lisa Kent’s writing is exquisite. Her writing stirred the emotions of facing the loss of a partner and home, coping with the absence of happiness, parenting two teenage daughters about to step into adulthood, healing and addressing the pain and the greatest of all the hope to find love again.

There’s a spark of hope in me too as I followed Lucy’s journey, with the help of her daughters and the landlord, together they transformed the cottage into a real home. And along this their family learned more about the landlord. I read with amusement the little things about raising daughters, like the excerpt below, it reminds me so much about my mom.
"Delia smiled with pleasure and satisfaction. That’s what I had been waiting for, the smile when she finished. I knew then she would be fine. I didn’t bother telling her that her hair looked soft and pretty, and her yellow-checkered apron looked sweet on her. She wouldn’t have listened anyway. But I was happy for her."

The description of the cottage and its surrounding woods, the shoreline and nearby beach are also a joy to read, I could really imagine the hidden gem nestled in a picturesque location.

Before I conclude, there’s a little twist at the end of the book, a one that I didn’t expect which left me to ponder on deeper things in life. I would highly recommend to pick up this book which conveyed close to heart themes in daily life and I would love to read the sequel to this book.

This is the first novel I've read by Lisa Kent and I would not hesitate to read anything else written by her. PEACE COTTAGE is a novel of hope, redemption and of course peace. The setting takes place in a small, quaint town in Maine. The characters are well developed her writing is almost poetic. I was given this ARC by the publisher in return for an honest review. No compensation was received. A delightful read! Did I say mystery surrounds this read as well..,

Peace Cottage

This was,an unusual story. Lucy and the girls were recovering from the loss of their father who had been a great man. Moving into the cottage gave them a place,to heal. Jack was a
Most unusual landlord as well as a talented builder. Their connection was unusual luckily Lucy and the girls, were able to reconnect to the family they had left behind. Gave it 5 stars

Lovely Gentle Book

I loved the book..with it's purity and fresh perspective. I thought there could have been more development in certain areas but I was still left with a sense of the place, the characters, and their growth. It was an enriching read.

Very lovely story

What a wonderful story of a woman and her daughters after the passing of their husband and father. The tale tells how they moved to a remote town in the northeast to create a new life. The characters are very real and interesting. Read it--you'll love it.

Peace Cottage by Lisa Kent
This book starts out with a mother who's lost her spouse and with her two teen daughters they travel from VT to Maine to find themselves. The come across a store that leads them to a cottage that is deplorable but
Lucy is able to clean it up and the family is happy to have found the place. Girls are wrapped up in their life studies and work that gives time to Lucy to find her new self again. With her 51st birthday she is once again able to knit. She hates how they just walked away from everything in VT and reaches out to her family and parents and the sisters visit one Thanksgiving.
Some days are harder than others and she fears the time that both girls will be away at college-just next year. The landlord gave them a break on the rent after she cleaned the place spotless and they don't know much about Jack. Love the travel excursions they go on and the treasures they find that make their home complete.
Teared up a few times reading the words and thinking of myself in her position and that they are in such a healing place.
Love that they have found a church as it's Christmas time and we always grew up with the Advent calendars.
As the story goes on you find out the details of why they had to leave the town in VT and what Jack is hiding from them. Didn't see the ending as written and loved it as is.
Such memories and treasures. beautiful story.

I met the author a couple years ago at our local library .
I also follow her blog . Since then I have been wanting to start her novels . I am happy I have started them .
Peace Cottage is a great name for this novella.
The story reads very quickly and peacefully almost to a fault .
It gives the hope in life that we all want. The part I struggled with is that Jacks son died of cocaine OD . I am not so sure that is very likely . Heroin OD would of been a more realistic choice . Although Using cocaine probably fits this story as main stream world views heroin as “ the dirty drug “ and this story had fine colleges , money was not an issue , and the main character did not have to work.
so using the” rich mains high “ fits but dying of cocaine OD?
Not as realistic and common as herion which is what plagues are country and it was when this book was published . I am starting the sequel .

Peace Cottage

What a lovely read! It starts sightedness and uncertainties, but developers into a story of forgiveness, love, and self realization. It makes relationships and family take the front seat. Great characters and a joy to read. Thank you.

Finding Hope And Peace After Great Loss

This series must be read in order. This is the first book. I can't wait to read Raising Evangeline!

Lucy and her girls have experienced great loss. The betrayal and shunning by their family, church, community and friends led them to sell everything (just about) so they could find a new start somewhere else. Somewhere healthier for them. Finding Jack and the cottage seemed too good to be true... Even if it was a disgusting mess they would be hard pressed to resolve! Will they learn to live again? Will they heal from their devastating loss? Will the cottage in the woods become their new home?

***This series is suitable for mature young adult through adult readers who enjoy sentimental journeys of hope breaking through the pain of loss and poignant second chance romances :)

What a wonderfully written story. It's fairly short for a novel but packs a punch. This is a book about how a woman of 50 years old loses her husband and the journey she makes with her two daughters into accepting people are flawed and forgiveness is a big part of life. Never preachy, Lucy must accept that her friends and neighbors in Vermont loved her husband too and hold her responsible for his early death. Lucy and her daughters find refuge and a new life in an abandoned home and a landlord, Jack, who has secrets of his own. Can't wait to read book two. Such an unexpected love story that will have you wishing the book was much longer. Enjoy this great story.

Thanks Netgalley and the publisher Curiosity Quills Press for the ARC for an honest review.

I found the writing lacked emotion, and the story line thin, and unevolved. It was not engaging.
