Question Everything: A romantic suspense thriller

Rate this book
A gripping romantic suspense about a hunted mother with no memory, a Boston detective determined to protect her, and the dangerous truth behind her child.

Maeve Byrne is on the run with her baby, and someone wants them both dead.

She’s a hunted woman and will do anything to protect her baby daughter. When Maeve realizes the people who want her dead have found her again, she jumps in her car and drives into the night. But one unexpected curve in the road sends her life spinning out of control.

Kyle Walsh is no stranger to bad luck. On administrative leave from the Boston PD after an incident involving the unauthorized use of his weapon, he witnesses Maeve’s accident and instinct takes over. He pulls the injured woman and her baby from the wreckage as she begs him to save her child before losing consciousness.

When Maeve wakes in the hospital, she remembers nothing. She does not know her name, her past, or why she was driving through the night with a baby in the car.

The story does not add up.

As Kyle searches for answers, the mystery deepens and it becomes harder for him to ignore that he is falling in love with the woman he may not be able to save.

Question Everything is a gripping romantic suspense perfect for readers who love protective heroes, forced proximity, hidden identities, and emotional love stories set against high-stakes danger. Ideal for fans of bestselling authors Sandra Brown, Karen Rose, and Tami Hoag.

I like the story and the concept, but I found the writing to be very juvenile and cheesy. I listened to the audiobook through Audible and I think that made it worse for me.

The story was good, but several issues with editing. This usually doesn't bother me, I can overlook it, but there were so many that it really stood out and took away from me enjoying the story. It wasn't just words repeating, names spelled wrong, but also things changed like names and events that took place. It was like the author had wrote part of the book and then forgot what she wrote and so it changed as the book went on. The sister's husband's name is one thing at the beginning, and then several chapters later, it changes to another name. Then later in the book, one character talks about only picking up his gun once since a certain event when such and such happened, but a couple chapters before that he had his gun when checking the backyard. It just doesn't all add up. I think with a good edit, this book could be a 4 star read for me.

Question Everything is a fast moving romantic suspense that blends high stakes danger with an emotionally driven mystery. Hilari T. Cohen builds strong tension around Maeve’s memory loss and the immediate threat to her and her child, creating a narrative that unfolds through both urgency and uncertainty. The amnesia element works effectively alongside the investigative arc, allowing the mystery to deepen as new pieces of information come to light. The developing relationship between Maeve and Kyle adds an emotional counterbalance to the suspense, with the protective dynamic reinforcing both the stakes and the pacing. This is a strong fit for readers who enjoy romantic suspense with forced proximity, hidden identities, and emotionally grounded relationships set against a backdrop of danger and intrigue.

Good

This is a good story about a woman on the run with her daughter. After fleeing Great Britain for the USA she is driving a rental car when she discovers she is being followed. She has an accident and loses her memory. She is found by a police officer who takes her to the hospital. Feeling responsible for her he takes her home with him to live until her memory is restored. But someone is still following her. Very realistic characters and story. It kept me on the edge of my seat.

I loved this book. I love the characters in all Ms. Cohen's books and this one is no different. Mystery and romance make a wonderful combination. Was the storyline a little out there? Yes but that's what makes it a good mystery! I'm hoping for a sequel to "Question Everything".

Not Hilari's usual genre but a good read. Mystery and romance combined. Don't "question" it. Just read and enjoy.

fabulously sweet

A fun suspenseful romance. Characters I want to know more about, towns that are interesting and a child with books of her own, I hope!

Good storytelling

I enjoyed this book and the characters in it. I definitely would recommend the read BUT there were so many typos/missing words in sentences, it drove me crazy.
