Kyle Walsh is no stranger to bad luck. On administrative leave from the Boston PD, for an incident surrounding the unauthorized use of his weapon, he witnesses Maeve’s accident and instinct kicks in; he runs to the scene to try and help her. But what he finds just doesn’t add up and he becomes obsessed with figuring out just who this woman is and the story behind why she’s in Boston. As she loses consciousness, she asks him to save her baby, and he hears her distinctive British accent. Kyle is intrigued by this beautiful stranger and is determined to unravel her secrets.
One big problem? Maeve doesn’t remember anything from before the accident; not where she came from, not why she was driving the car or even her name. As she begins to question everything around her, he begins to question whether she’s telling him the truth about any of it.
The other dilemma? He falls in love with her. And once he loses his heart, he wonders if he’s losing his mind, as well…
Hilari Cohen has spent her lifetime surrounded by books. I like the story and the concept, but I found the writing to be very juvenile and cheesy. I listened to the audiobook through Audible and I think that made it worse for me.
The story was good, but several issues with editing. This usually doesn't bother me, I can overlook it, but there were so many that it really stood out and took away from me enjoying the story. It wasn't just words repeating, names spelled wrong, but also things changed like names and events that took place. It was like the author had wrote part of the book and then forgot what she wrote and so it changed as the book went on. The sister's husband's name is one thing at the beginning, and then several chapters later, it changes to another name. Then later in the book, one character talks about only picking up his gun once since a certain event when such and such happened, but a couple chapters before that he had his gun when checking the backyard. It just doesn't all add up. I think with a good edit, this book could be a 4 star read for me.
This is a good story about a woman on the run with her daughter. After fleeing Great Britain for the USA she is driving a rental car when she discovers she is being followed. She has an accident and loses her memory. She is found by a police officer who takes her to the hospital. Feeling responsible for her he takes her home with him to live until her memory is restored. But someone is still following her. Very realistic characters and story. It kept me on the edge of my seat.
I loved this book. I love the characters in all Ms. Cohen's books and this one is no different. Mystery and romance make a wonderful combination. Was the storyline a little out there? Yes but that's what makes it a good mystery! I'm hoping for a sequel to "Question Everything".
