Evelina Everest is a tween to teen fantasy author. Ever since she discovered the summer reading program, she's been unstoppable. After all, if books contain worlds, she's pretty much an intergalactic traveler, right?

Dear readers, We have some disappointing news to share. 😢 Amazon has canceled our release date for Of Storms and Stardust. We are absolutely devastated to lose 400+ preorders and nearly $3,000 for charity raised so far. Please know we are fighting to get this book reinstated on Amazon ASAP, and we will let you know as soon as we have a live link on their site! Unfortunately, we will not be able to get our original preorders back. We will be starting from scratch. If you'd like to order directly from us, you can do that here. (The cool thing about this is that we get paid immediately and can disburse to charity faster. Plus, Payhip only takes 5% versus Amazon's 30%.) You can also order on ALL of the other major retailers. Unfortunately, this is not the first time this has happened to indie authors, and it likely won't be the last time. Stay tuned. We appreciate you! ❤️
I've read many of these authors (see full list below), so I'll start with the 'Just Kisses' who are new to me.
*Of Soul Mates and Pendants by Jessica M. Butler Adventures are best shared I enjoyed how this fated-mates tale wasn’t quite the usual insta-love. No spoilers, so read it to find out why!
*Heir of Seas and Sorrows by Elayna R. Gallea ‘Commanded. To. Marry.’ What’s a gal to do when the High King sets a timeline for your life imprisonment? AND all contenders he selects are just awful? May we soon see the end of females being treated as mere heir-producing bubbleheads.
A standalone in the Four Kingdoms, before the events of ‘Tethered’ (The Binding Chronicles #1) and ‘Of Earth and Flame’ (The Ithenmyr Chronicles #1).
*Of Summer and Stormlarks by Constance Lopez (Kasmian Chronicles #0.1) Choosing a spouse is a huge decision… …but even more so when that consort is to help run the country. Falling in love with a person is one thing, having compatible life goals is quite another. Would you leave behind your duty for love?
*A Fairy Tale Rose by Eliza Tilton Short and sweet with elements that could *definitely* expand into a full-length retelling.
*Ruin by Rebecca L. Garcia (The Fate of Crowns #0) If left unchecked, we become how we’re treated. Don’t allow others to destroy your inherent goodness and drive you to become ugly inside.
*The Prince of Hearts by B. Luna Covello (Amore Faerie Chronicles #0.5) Princes can be palace pawns just as much as princesses can.
*To Thaw a Phoenix Heart by C.K. Beggan (Immortal Academia #0.5) The Bard in a post-apoc setting Fave line: ‘Humans […] hated what they didn't understand.’ Unfortunately, this attitude is all too true IRL. May we all learn to rise above that toxicity.
*Between Gods and Demigods by Nicki Chapelway [Rage like the Gods #0.5] Nothing lasts forever. May we all live in a world in which violence no longer finds us.
*Wicked Trials by Megan Montero [The Royals: Witch Court #0.5] ‘Life is about balance’ Royals may have all of their basics needs supplied as well as some luxuries, but the price due is multiple and even excruciating mandatory duties. Think I’ll take my current workload along with its relative freedom from my ‘power to choose’, thank you very much!
*Shadows of Fate by GK DeRosa [Courts of Aetheria] “Famous last words” might as well be set-in-stone prophecies… More about Aelia and her adventures in ‘Crown of Light and Shadows’.
*The Purrfect Boyfriend by H.L. Burke May we all find the purrfect significant other who tames our wild beast.
*Courtships & Court Intrigue by Jes Drew [Sunset at Dawn #0.5] I just LUV when the prince ‘swooned like a damsel’. Totally wanna continue this series…
*Court of Shadows and Games by Claudia Klein [The Karaphyllon Chronicles #0.5] Don’t ever disdain ‘whispers of scullery maids in the kitchens and stable hands in the yard’ as your life may depend upon their knowledge of dark things skulking about.
***When There's A Tomorrow by Karyne Norton [50 First Dates meets Princess Bride] The original “Groundhog’s Day”
*A Curse of Snow and Ash by Marie-Hélène Lebeault [Legends Reborn #1] Torn between two worlds, yet belonging to neither. The powers-that-be of the Ash and Snow Courts misunderstand the “balance” Valira brings as being a threat to their dominions. And they each want her powers for their own ends…but at what cost?
*The Lily Gate by Hanna Sandvig A nice “French Twist” I like the queen’s idea of themed dates. Which would you prefer: a light supper, lakeside picnic, or dining in Paris? I appreciate how the author changed up the competition for the Princess’s hand – the prize is a promise of engagement rather than of marriage. “The goal is not just to win at any cost. The competition is a way for us to get to know each other better.” Well done!
Some sage advice for single princesses: ‘It would be smart to not fall for the first handsome prince to wink in your direction.’
Time for me to look up easy recipes for beignets and croquembouche before starting in on ‘The Glass Gate’. Maybe some brambleberry turnovers, as well!
* Arranged to the Fae Warrior (The Dragons of Arcadia) by S. R. Breaker (FTB) ‘Hell hath no fury’ The secret to a successful marriage is partnership and respect – but only with two people rather than three! I’ve already enjoyed ‘Curse of the Dragon Heir’ (part of the Realm of Darkness boxset) and ‘Reign of the Dragon Heir’.
*Crown of Twelve Crown of Twelve (Crowns of the Fae) by R.L. Perez (MS) “The Twelve Dancing Princesses” is my favorite childhood fairytale The author changes up enough to make it her own, yet keeps the basics so that readers can relate to the “original”. The personalities are definitely waaay more fleshed out in this version – you’ve been forewarned! 😊
At some point in the tale, the author mentioned Dreamers versus Doubters. While negativity DOES adversely affect how and even if people pursue their goals, I think that dreaming and doubting don’t necessarily have to be mutually exclusive. A healthy dose of skepticism helps us to consider possible obstacles and put plans in place to mitigate or even avoid them. Be prepared!
Fave wingman: Prince Fenn
Gonna make me a cuppa vanilla tea as I await Fenn’s story in ‘Crown of Slumber’ then ‘Crown of Briars’.
I received a copy of this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review
Firstly, there is about 40 hours of reading in this collection, as such, I have not read the entirety of the book. It is a book of short stories written by a plethora of romantic fantasy authors. As of this review, I have read 10 of the short stories, though, due to the length of one, I think it might qualify as a novella.
Secondly, the speed in which the authors put this together in order to contribute to helping those affected by hurricane Helene is both astounding and touching. Money well spent, in any situation, is money given to those in need.
And on to the stories.
I started with LJ Andrews, as she is one of my favorite authors, and the reason I found out about this book in the first place. It is a short story she had already written a small portion of and that expanded greatly in this book. The characters are ones that you have read about in her books (The Broken Kingdoms and The Ever Seas- both amazing) and that you already love. Getting to see the background and little tidbits on these characters is something that she excels at as a writer. You end up feeling you know them. In general, she’s well known for doing little short stories and backgrounds on characters from suggestions that are given to her by us, the readers.
I also had the pleasure of reading books from new authors and now my TBR is just growing exponentially after receiving this book
Another standout was by Jessica M. Butler, it was very short in comparison to the other stories and not spicy, but I don’t think it could’ve been much more sweet! If she writes a whole book on these characters then I’ll be first in line to read it!
All in all you get way more bang for your book then you can even imagine with this book and knowing that your money is going to people who could really use it is even better
What a HUGE collection of amazing stories!! I love how it is sorted by spice level because I prefer to read mostly clean books. I loved so many of these stories, and love that each of these authors chose to donate their stories to such a good cause. There's truly something for everyone in this collection (likely several, at least, haha). Just an outstanding batch of stories and kind hearted authors!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This is a HUGE anthology of short stories, and it’s a GREAT cause. Support in other ways besides Amazon!
5/5 stars for quantity of content and charity
I’m still reading the stories right now. Currently, at 3.33/5 stars for 3 stories for quality! Plan on updating as I go.
This is an amazing collection that will have something for everyone. These are short stories filled with adventure, magic, and romance from sweet to spicy. I loved the range in this anthology from creative fairytale retellings, to fated mates, hidden powers, mermaids, royalty, and more. This is definitely a must read collection for fantasy romance lovers!
E.V. Everest - Of Storms and Stardust (ARC from the author)
Of Storms and Stardust is a fantastic anthology full of romantasy novellas. All in all there’s over 2000 pages of delicious fantasy romance from 39 authors. The anthology is sectioned into Just Kisses, Fade to Black, Mild Spice and Steamy so you’re sure to find a story you vibe with and that fits your spice level.
All the proceeds goes to help the victims of Hurricane Helene. It’s a great cause and I think all the contributing authors are incredbily kindhearted to have launched this book so fast. Unfortunately Amazon cancelled all the pre-orders so every contribution is highly appreciated ♥️
I haven’t had the time to read every novella yet, but the ones I’ve read to far I’ve enjoyed. There’s a wide variety of tropes so you’re guaranteed to find a story you’ll love. Two of my favorites so far are; Crown of Twelve by R.L. Perez and Heir of Seas and Sorrow by Elayna R. Gallea.
Crown of Twelve is a prequel to Crown of Slumber, which I read and enjoyed earlier this year. It’s a friends to lovers retelling of Twelve Dancing Princesses with fae, curses and family drama.
Heir of Seas and Sorrows is mermaid story with bodyguard x princess trope. I’ve been wanting to read a novel with merpeople for a long while and I felt this delivered. Though I was also left with a lot of questions about everyday routines when you have a tale…
I absolutely loved this anthology there are so many authors involved in this, some known to me and some not known. I loved every story, I loved how some were short and some were longer with more chapters. Each one left me wanting more though. I could be here all day writing a review for each one - there's loads. So I'll highlight a few... I plan on reviewing each on my social media ☺️
When A Reaper Falls - Jamie Dalton - This gave me Beauty and The Beast vibes, I loved the story. Reidan and Mortana were great characters, I loved how they played against each other. Everything about this story I loved.
Of lies and dreams - J. Ann Curtis - A frog prince retelling, this was so good. We got betrayals and deceit. I loved how this story played out, the characters really complemented each other and the twist made for a wild read.
Of soul mates and pendants - Jessica m butler - this one was so intriguing and I loved how different it was to what I've read before, I felt so sorry for Nadiya and I was intrigued by Calixto. This one was one of the shorter stories but I definitely could read more.
A fairytale Rose - Eliza Tilton -Rumpelstiltskin retelling. I really enjoyed this one, I loved Rose and Stenson, the way this short story played out. The Rumpelstiltskin take was interesting and who doesn't love a hero?!
I definitely recommend this anthology not only is it filled with wonderful stories but it's for a worthy cause too. As soon as this releases I'll be buying a copy to pledge my support.
✨𝑀𝒾𝓃𝒾 𝒜𝑅𝒞 𝑅𝑒𝓋𝒾𝑒𝓌 ✨ 📖: Of Storms and Stardust 💻: Out now!
This charity anthology is filled with incredible stories by some favorite romantasy authors! With over 30 short stories/novellas, you can find an array of romances with varying levels of heat. I’m looking forward to savoring all these stories and am sharing a review for Throne of Ice and Fury by @authorljandrews
This short story centers on Lilianna and Arvad and is connected to The Broken Kingdoms and Ever Seas series 🥰. Fans of these series will not want to miss it! 👀
Tropes/themes: 👀 Dual POV 🧚 Rival kingdoms 🏹 Huntress FMC 👑 Royal intrigue 🫥 Hidden identities 🗣️ Banter 🧑🧑🧒🧒 Found family 🌶️: moderate
Lilianna is a total bad@ass FMC who works to make a life for herself and is no damsel waiting for a man to save her. A chance encounter with a handsome stranger changes the course of her life.
Arvad is a hot MMC who falls first, sees Lilianna’s fierce spirit, and treats her as an equal. Can their relationship mend the longstanding strife between their lands?
In Throne of Ice and Fury, LJ brilliantly crafts an emotional and gritty story with deep betrayals, intrigue, and an epic romance!
Huge thanks to all the authors for the ARC opportunity. This is my honest and voluntary review
I didnt finished yet because its reaaaaallllllyyyyyyy chonky.
But as so far i love it. I read a few fairytale retellings and discovered new authors that i definitely need books from. Im at the little bit spicy and is just romance but i love it!!!
The short stories make it also easy to read it. They are enjoyable and i need more of rhe story.
What an awesome anthology! There are so many wonderful morsels of stories to enjoy here. There are lots of writers across the spectrum of spice and are grouped together, so if you only want clean you know where yo stop, or if you want just specific authors stories, those are listed as well. This book provided little glimpses of writing for new (to me) authors, and I found some amazing bonus stories of favorite characters to check out, too. This book is also benefiting a great cause!
What an amazing anthology! There are close to 40 stories over the more than 2000 pages in this book. Many by authors new to me, which makes for a very tantalising adventure. Then there’s the cause. I was on board as soon as I heard this anthology aims to aid victims of hurricane Helene. It just goes to show that we can do anything. All it takes is working together.
I like how the publisher separated this collection by spice level. It’s also worth noting that the overwhelming majority of stories in this anthology are no to low spice. There are only a handful of spicy stories included. For me, that’s little matter since I read everything. Another interesting trend I noticed so far is the overwhelming majority of stories featuring fae. If it weren’t for a few outliers, this could be a fae romantasy anthology. Just a fun fact.
As with most anthologies, there are some stories I absolutely adore and others that simply don’t work for me. I have tried to be as open minded as possible with each review, because I find it’s important to give each story a chance. I also understand that things I dislike might be someone else’s kryptonite.
Note: although most of the stories are well edited, many of the ones I didn’t like could have benefited from another round or two of editing to improve the flow of the story and make reading more enjoyable.
I’ve read about a quarter of the anthology. Below are my thoughts on the individual stories so far:
Heir of Seas and Sorrow by Elayna R. Galley - 3.5 An interesting story about a mer-princess whose evil father gives her an unreasonable ultimatum, that propels her out into the sea to find a better alternative. I enjoyed the he falls first trope used in this story, but felt the author glossed over the “impossible love” aspect which was built up as a solid wall for thee quarters of the story only to vanish at the end. I also felt the author could have done better exploring what life under water would really be like and adapting the culture accordingly.
When a Reaper Falls by Jamie Dalton - 3 Interesting concept of a reaper who doesn’t want to be that, and so goes off to do what she loves instead, which is baking. Kinda fun idea, but the author then segues into a Beauty and the Beast style story about a fae king who’s been cursed. And then there’s a random twist at the end. For me, although the idea was good and the characters somewhat interesting, the pacing was totally off, which made the story very disjointed to read.
Of Summer and Stormlarks - 5 Oh, the emotions! I was invested in this story from the opening line and could not put it down until the last word. What a brilliant, emotive friends-to-lovers after a long separation compounded with miscommunication. Add to it the fact this is a short prequel to Of Stormlarks and Silence, which is equally gripping and brilliant, by the way, I am absolutely delighted. Love this little gem within this marvellous collection.
Of Soul Mates and Pendants by Jessica M. Butler - 4 I love the world building this story sets up and would absolutely want to spend more time exploring it. The concept of the fated mates who receive a pendant in order to find each other made for a strong impulse for this story, and the twist was unexpected. I liked the glimpse we get of Nadiya as a character and would love to know what happens to her next.
The Witch of the Woods by Anthea Sharp - 5 Absolutely fabulous Hansel and Gretel retelling. I was immersed from the opening and absolutely loved each twist that somehow still remained true to the original fairytale, while at the same time, becoming something entirely its own thing. The magic is brilliant. The plot twists so well foreshadowed they’re familiar and yet simultaneously an absolute surprise. Hayden, Gracie and Nissa were all amazing characters. Once I figured out what was really going on, I was rooting for a happy outcome and the author so totally delivered. Wonderful story. Highly recommend.
Heart of the Forest by Anthea Sharp - 5 Such a beautiful antagonists-to-lovers fae romance. The prince rides into the forest to capture the White Hart and request that it grant him his heart’s desire, but nothing ever turns out quite like we plan it. He ends up in the fae realm on a whole new trajectory with an unexpected outcome. I really loved the folkloric tone of this story. Definitely one to remember.
Heir of Bitter Thorn by Kay L. Moody - 4 Stabby FMC is sent to the fae realm to rescue a fae prince from captivity in a rival queen’s court. It’s short, so there wasn’t much opportunity to get to know more about the fae realm, but the author does drop some hints for what I expect will be picked up in the main series. There were some parts of this story I didn’t like at all, and others, like the final twist I found absolutely brilliant.
A Fairy Tale Rose by Eliza Tilton - 3.5 This is a sweet and slightly twisted sequel/ new ending to the Rumpelstiltskin fairytale. The characters were well-rounded for such a short tale and I liked the impossible love trope worked into this story. The plot was a little simplistic with few real moments of adversity, so I never truly believed that failure might be possible.
Ruin by Rebecca L. Garcia - 3 Good idea. Poor execution. Not my cup of tea, although I can say that it could be if the author reworks it. My main issue was with the pacing and the “mystery” that’s resolved based on a correct supposition about who is to blame for the curse. A couple of red herrings or at least a more methodical deduction would have been necessary for me to buy it. Also, the transition of the MC from an unsympathetic to sympathetic character was rushed and hence felt forced. I think a longer story, with more time to develop important points would make this story brilliant.
The Lily Gate by Hanna Sandvig - 4 What a cute Frog Prince retelling with “groom” trials (as opposed to bride trials). I also liked how the author managed to work in my favourite romance trope (no, I can’t say what it is without revealing the plot twist). Great fun and very sweet.
The Prince of Hearts by B. Luna Covello - 3.5 This is a prequel to the author’s main series and reads very much as that. Although there is a lot for the prince to overcome and betrayal from his childhood friend and love interest, I didn’t get the impression of any real resolution from this snippet. His final decision to take a specific action was very remote, not as if his life or his kingdom are on the line. Without the emotive connection, it just feels like a set up for what is to come.
Faery Magic by Merrie Destefano - 4 This is a lovely story, reminiscent of Sleeping Beauty but with a fae twist that makes it wholly unique. I loved the magic in this story, both harsh and gentle, terrifying and protective. It’s different and made for an interesting element in the worldbuilding.
A Lady’s Wolf by Nicole Zoltack - 3.5 Great concept, blending the vibes of Bridgerton with werewolves and a murder investigation. The general idea and the twist at the end were pretty good, unfortunately the execution was lacking, especially because the locations were all over the place and the MC was moving around to multiple places in almost every chapter. I think it would have been tighter and more enjoyable if there had been less back and forth.
Caliste and Gerard by R.L. Medina - 4 I absolutely adore the worldbuilding! The setting and magic, not to mention the cultural situation leading to a forbidden love situation for Caliste and Gerard was brilliant. Absolutely want more like this with a unique world that captures the imagination. The story itself was good, but I think the author wanted to do too much within the scope of a short story, so it could have been better if things were either tightened up for the short story format, or expanded into a novella to give those detailed aspects more space.
I Kissed the Fae I Found in My Pool by K.R.S McEntire - 3.5 Started out with a great hook and intriguing first half. It’s humorous and sweet, but the final third of the story was so rushed and left several loose ends that the ending fell flat.
Titania Rises by Tricia Copeland - 3.5 This one had great moments and others that didn’t work for me. The pacing was off and this story definitely needed a proofread.
To Thaw a Phoenix Heart by C.K. Beggan - 4.5 Interesting story set in a post-apocalyptic future Earth where humans are struggling to survive, especially when a harsh winter hits in the wake of other tragedies. The magical element for this dystopian fantasy comes in the form of two phoenixes on a mission. I really liked Devlin’s character and the way the author brings in Romeo and Juliet to work through some of the thematic elements of this story. However, I do wish Era’s character had been fleshed out a bit more and her disability included as an integral part of the story, rather than as an afterthought.
Between Gods and Demigods by Nicki Chapelway - 4 Fascinating world and interesting cast of characters. I enjoyed the cultural differences and the few explorations of Azern’s culture shock. It took me a little while to connect with the character and to care about her journey, but once she got out of the temple and started her adventure, it became very intriguing.
I cannot review every single story, there are too many to do so BUT good golly are they all FANTASTIC!!!! Here are the first few I reviewed in this very worthy cause, each and every story delighted me! Some of the authors were very familiar and much loved by me and some completely new to me, which was really cool!
Heir of Seas and Sorrows - Elayna R Gallea: Mareena has her work cut out for her, she needs to find a husband in 7 days, a task nigh impossible, men are rather scarce.. I loved this one, I loved Mareena's resolve to choose her own husband, even though she didn't want or need a husband and I adored Calix. His secret love for Mareena is so sweet, his protectiveness and desire to help her just lovely, but they can never be, he's her guard and a bastard to boot, she's a Princess and heir to the throne. I loved this cool story of forbidden love and I definitely want more of this! WHEN A REAPER FALLS - JAMIE DALTON: This is a really cute story, a king who's been cursed and a Reaper meet in the most unusual of circumstances. Mortana is the daughter of death, she's a Reaper a duty that fills her with sadness, so she bakes to counter this fate of hers. Except, on her way to a baking competition, things go arry and she ends up in a desolate palace with a grumpy King. I'd be grumpy too if my request for aid ended up being shrouded in invisibility, unable to be seen or leave. He NEEDS the spell to be broken, he needs the magic back for the sake of his kingdom. Mortana, rightfully, is devastated that she's stuck with no means of leaving, well, until the curse is broken. I enjoyed this cute story immensely, the to and fro between Mortana and Reidan was adorable and I got rather hungry reading this story. Hehehe, you'll have to read it to see why...A lovely conclusion to a lovely tale. OF SUMMER AND STORMLARKS- CONSTANCE LOPEZ: I loved loved LOVED this short story! Having read all of Ms Lopez's book, this in a world I was familiar with. I'm always astonished at how much depth and insight she gives her characters and story. This short story of second chances is a beautiful testament to her writing skills. OF SOULMATES AND PENDANTS - Jessica M Butler: For 10 long years Nadiya searched for her soulmate, and despair had settled in at ever finding them. At 18, the magical pendant should have led her to her soulmate but, alas, her's did not. Until, suddenly, unexpectedly, the pendant started to glow, only to disappear once more and her search takes a different route, she now knows who she's needs to find, Calixto, but where he is, now that's a mystery. With only his journal to go by, months turn into years and she's no closer. A gorgeous fated mates story that not even a curse can sever. I'd love to read more of the adventures Calixto and Nadiya have, travelling through different worlds. THE WITCH OF THE WOODS - ANDREA SHARP: My first time reading an Andrea book and gosh did I enjoy it! A Hansel and Gretel retelling, an evil stepmom, a father abandoning his children. Hayden and Gracie have only each other and with their sibling love, they find strength. They stumble onto the Witch of the woods but she's not the evil all made her out to be. Although she does "enlist" both siblings for a year and a day before she lets them go, her loneliness is palpable. I loved how the siblings, especially the exuberant Gracie cracked her facade. But an ominous stone holds power but what is quite startling, is what it wants. Really great twists and a sweet HEA. HEART OF THE FOREST - ANDREA SHARP: Geez, Kent is so smitten by his brother's bride to be he undertakes a dangerous quest to have his wish granted, but to do so he has to capture the White Hart. He ends up in a strange place facing a strange woman who he mistakenly assumes is the White Hart. He's self serving, self centred and a tad unreasonable. I got a giggle or two from how Fayna ran circles around him. Spending time with Fayna melted the arrogance from Kent, fighting a drake, concern for Fayna, changes him forever. What a sweet story! HEIR OF BITTER THORN - KAY L MOODY: Kay is one of my favourite authors and I adore every book she writes. She draws me in every single time, I'm always enchanted by her stories. This is a lovely novella. A great prequel which sets the tone for the series. We get to meet a lovely young girl, whose only wish is to be able to participate in sword fighting tournaments. Elora is loathe to accept that as a woman, she cannot be a warrior. When she is tricked into saving a prince in the Faerie realm, she is in her element and dreams of the adventures she will have. The reality is very different but somehow, it still leaves her energised. We get to see what a strong character Elora is and have no doubt of her will and stubborn nature. The Faerie realm is magnificently depicted, where she uses all her wits to survive, even fighting a troll. A fun book with fun characters, leading to a great series! A FAIRY TALE ROSE - ELIZA TILTON: Another author I've heard great things about and none were lies. A delightful story of forbidden love, a stablehand and a Princess are a no no union but their feelings are a yes yes. See, Autumn doesn't like the pomp and ceremony, she DOES like Stenson, which she publicly announces and then things go belly up, fast! What a lot of twists this story has, starting with Stenson's identity, all the way through to the end. An adorable Rumpelstiltskin retelling and a cute HEA. I really enjoyed this one! RUIN - REBECCA L GARCIA: Oh my! This story started off very intense dramatic. This story was a lot darker than the previous ones but seeing as, the darker a book, the more my enjoyment. And THIS I thoroughly enjoyed! Blood magic, violence and gore, magical objects, a sorrowful, tortured soul of a character, with a touch of spice, oh yes baby, just my thing! And did my heart cry out for Evangeline! What a dreadful life she endures! What dreadful siblings she has! She "listens" to voice in her head, a dark voice, her master, and performs spells of darkest nature. And yet I still felt only sympathy for her. Gosh the intrigue! A curse! A scheming plot! Caspian! A bittersweet story, THIS was a story I'd love to read more of.
If you love fantasy stories and want to try out a bunch of different authors, this is a good book for that. It's a little mis-marketed, though, because a lot of the stories are not romances at all (and there's even one that I don't think is fantasy). You should go into it expecting a lot of prequels and story starters, many of which will make you want to read more books, and a good mix of genres including urban fantasy, romantasy, high fantasy, and fairy tale retellings.
The stories are organized by steam level, which I appreciated. I read all except the four labeled "steamy" (the highest steam rating in this collection). Here are all my reviews:
Heir of Seas and Sorrows by Elayna R. Gallea I enjoyed reading this short book, but I wish it was longer to include some more character development. It was cool to have everything take place underwater and think about how that would affect the way characters live and think (I especially appreciated "guppies" instead of "butterflies in my stomach" to describe nervousness).
When A Reaper Falls by Jamie Dalton I would have really liked this book if it was a little longer. The plot hook, characters, and setting are great, but I just don't think the two main characters had enough scenes together for them to connect well enough for me to buy in to their romance.
Of Summer and Stormlarks by Constance Lopez This is another story that I wish was longer to give the characters more time together before they decide to get married. Maybe I'm just getting too old for the stories where you haven't seen each other in 9 years and are still in love (my inner mom is screaming, "you were 10 years old, you can't know that you love him!). It's well-written, though, and the world intrigues me. I might try the first book in the series.
Of Soul Mates and Pendants by Jessica M. Butler Cute soul mate romance that's short enough I read it during breakfast one day. I really enjoyed this one!
The Witch of the Woods by Anthea Sharpe This is one of my favorites in this collection! It's an imaginative retelling of Hansel and Gretel with great characters and an interesting magical aspect to the story. I don't think it's available anywhere else, so you'll have to get this anthology to read it.
Heart of the Forest by Anthea Sharpe I'm going to have to read more Anthea Sharpe, because I loved this story too.
Heir of Bitter Thorn by Kay L. Moody This short story prequel is well-written and entertaining. It just contained a few tropes that tend to irritate me so I didn’t enjoy it as well as I suspect others might.
A Fairy Tale Rose by Eliza Tilton A unique Rumplestiltskin retelling and a great short story!
Ruin by Rebecca L. Garcia I don't usually read dark fantasy but I gave this one a try because it's in this anthology. It was a bit too dark for me but so well written I didn't want to put it down!
The Lily Gate by Hanna Sandvig I often feel like novella-length ebooks are too rushed, but this one is perfect. I love the characters, pacing, and plot. It's such a lovely fairy tale retelling
The Prince of Hearts by B. Luna Covello Interesting fae world with Alice in wonderland vibes. I loved this story, but it's a prequel that ends on a cliffhanger and the next book isn't available yet. Really hope it comes out soon so I can keep reading!
Faery Magic by Merrie Destefano This is another of my favorites from this collection. It's a sweeping story with epic proportions packed neatly into a short novella. I loved the writing style, characters, centuries-spanning plot, and deep Celtic lore.
The Destitute Countess by Astrid V.J. I haven't read any of the other Wordmage's Tales yet (this is #6), but I have read some of the other stories from set in this same world. I enjoyed this story, and it definitely feels like it's part of a larger world, which makes me want to keep reading to discover more of the worldbuilding. For some reason, I kept expecting there to be a mystery component and I second-guessed what was going on, but the story turned out to be straight-forward.
A Lady's Wolf by Nicole Zoltack I typically enjoy the "fantasy of manners" subgenre, but this one didn't quite work for me. I felt a little confused with the werewolf pack dynamics, withheld information, and some choices the main character made.
Caliste & Gerard by R. L. Medina I don't read "witchy" books, but I decided to give this one a try since I was already reading the collection. I can't say that I liked it (though I did like the vampire guy), but it's well-written. I think you would enjoy it if this is typically the type of story you enjoy.
I Kissed the Fae I Found in My Pool by K. R. S. McEntire Fun, short story that feels like an introduction to a series, or maybe to a world that other books will be set in. I enjoyed it, and I'd like to read more.
Titania Rises by Tricia Copeland I worry that I'm getting a little too old for "teenager saves the world stories" now that I'm a mother. I read them, and I identify more with the parents who don't want their baby girl running off into danger than the main character. Despite this, I did enjoy "Titania Rises."
To Thaw A Phoenix Heart by C.K. Beggan I can't remember reading a story about a phoenix shifter before, but I loved the idea! It's an interesting post-apocalyptic type setting with human colonies living in abandoned zoos. I'd like to read more in this world.
Between Gods and Demigods by Nicki Chapelway It's a well-written story with interesting world and premise. I liked the idea of a character who has magic from a misunderstood goddess trying to do good in a world that mistrusts her, but I struggled connecting with the characters.
Wicked Trials by Megan Montero This one gave me hunger games vibes. Strangely, it's not actually a romance. I assume it's a prequel short story for a YA romantasy series, but it doesn't really feel like it fits in this anthology.
Shadows of Fate by G.K. DeRosa Another one that's not actually a romance, though it's very definitely setting the stage for a romantasy series purported to have Fourth Wing vibes. It made me want to read more.
The Purrfect Boyfriend by H. L. Burke Depending on what you want from your shifter romance, you might find this a fun and amusing story. I found it weirdly uncomfortable with the (deliberately) over-the-top language and the human being just a little too into the animal side of her shifter boyfriend.
Courtships and Court Intrigue by Jex Drew I wanted to read more of this one soooo much. Interesting hook for a story, world, and characters. It feels like the first couple chapters of a novel more than a stand alone short story, and definitely ends on a cliff hanger. I couldn't find a follow-up to the book on the author's Goodreads page, though, which was dissapointing.
Court of Shadows and Games by Claudia Klein This one also isn't actually a romance but it's an enjoyable little fantasy story that sets up for a series (I've read the first book of the series already, and it was nice to get this backstory). It's an interesting world where elves are the default race and there are very ridged gender roles that the main characters are trying to work around.
A Curse of Snow and Ash by Marie-Hélène Lebeault The blurb for this one sounded amazing, but it just it didn't deliver on its promises for me. I had a lot of confusion about what was actually going on (does she have amnesia or not? how does magic work in this world?). It's also another one that's not actually a romance: even though there are two main characters who have the perfect setup to be a couple, there's no spark between them.
When There's A Tomorrow by Karyne Norton I love, love, love this story. It's a stand-alone short romantasy that's beautifully written and heartwarming. It's described as 50 First Dates meets Princess Bride, which is pretty accurate and makes for a great story.
The Barricades by Cate Dean This is another excellent stand-alone romantasy. I like the worldbuilding and characters, and it's perfectly paced for a shorty story. I'd love to read more in this world.
Path of the Warrior by Azalea Dabill This is supposed to be historical Christian fantasy, but if there are fantasy elements they are so subtle I didn't catch them. It was an interesting story, though. I've never read anything from this time period in Korea before. I did find a couple scenes really confusing, though, and wasn't sure why one of the characters attacked another.
Ink by Melanie Karsak We're in the "fade to black" section of this collection now. This is a beautifully written, original, stand-alone novella. I love mermaid stories.
Kissed by Thorns and Fate by E. V. Everest This is a lovely little Beauty and the Beast inspired story. I have a soft spot for Beauty and the Beast retellings, and I really enjoyed this one!
Arranged to the Fae Warrior by S. R. Breaker I don't really like the trope of "I hate you because I assume (incorrectly) that you're judging me" and that's a big part of this story. But it's a pretty fun read, with a crazy over-the-top fight scene at the end that seemed to come out of nowhere and made me think of the movie Argylle.
Happy Anniversary by Vasilia Drake Hades-and-Persephone vibes in a cozy sort of little vignette. This is a companion short story to a larger series, but it works okay as a stand-alone.
Crown of Twelve by R. L. Perez This is the first of the "mild spice" stories in this collection. I love fairy tale retellings, and this was a really good one of Twelve Dancing Princesses. There were enough differences to make it original and enough like the original to make it a "retelling" more than a "reimagining."
A Fate of Wolves This one ends in a cliffhanger and it's very definitely a prequel for a full length book. I probably won't read the book, though, because reincarnation romance isn't my thing and it was a little on the too spicy side for me.
Of Lies and Dreams by J. Ann Curtis Another really good fairy tale retelling/reimagining, this one of the Frog Prince. It turns the villainess into the love interest in a believable way. I really enjoyed this one, and I'd love to read more from this author.
This book was given to me as an ARC; all thoughts and opinions are my own.
Heir of Seas and Sorrows (Elayna R. Gallea) When a Reaper Falls (Jamie Dalton) Of Summer and Stormlarks (Constance Lopez) Crown of Twelve (R.L. Perez) The Barricades (Cate Dean) Throne of Ice and Fury (LJ Andrews)
This is truly a veritable treasure trove of romantasy short stories and novellas written by an amazing roster of authors we know and love. As I write this review, I've already read six stories and I have been enchanted by them all so far. They are stories involving mermaids, reapers and sky fae, princesses and warriors, night fae and huntresses. Some are quick stories that give us a peek into the lives of our characters at that point in time that they find their better halves. They all end in a happy ever after, but you also end up wishing the stories were longer so you could spend more time with the characters and see more of their lives.
Some stories are longer novellas that serve as prequels to a whole bigger series of books, and reading them really entices you to check out those series, and you end up getting hooked!
This book is really a great way to sample the works of a powerhouse group of romantasy authors. It's also a perfect book to read if you want to take a quick break in your busy day to indulge in heartwarming fantasy romance, or for passing idle time while you're in a line at the clinic, bank, or waiting for your little one to get off from school! The stories and characters are sure to keep you in great company that you would not notice the passing of time.
I loved the stories and will continue reading till I've consumed them all!
I love that all of these authors came together to donate their stories to a great cause. There are 30+ stories and novellas in this charity anthology and they’re sorted by spice level! Given the sheer amount of stories in this anthology (over 2,000 pages of Romantasy!) I have only read three so far but I loved them all. ONE HUNDRED percent of the proceeds will go to those impacted by hurricane Helene.
HEART’S MISSION by Meredith Hart ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Well, this novella added another series to my TBR 😅 i got to the last 10 minutes and just knew this wasn’t a one-and-done story. I liked the magic system in this book and the way the romance developed was perfect, I can’t wait to see how the two of them can fix their world together!
WINGS OF CHANGE by Stephany Wallace ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I loved this one! I was hooked from the jump, this novella had a mysterious stranger turned enemy-ish turned lover, and I did NOT see that revelation coming at the end. I knew she’d be powerful but dang! A great amount of spice for such a short story too.
CROWN OF TWELVE by RL Perez ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Fun fact: Crown of Slumber was the first ever ARC I was gifted to review, so RL Perez has a special place in my heart. I loved seeing another side to this world and honestly I think this might be the very first friends to lovers story I’ve EVER read and that’s wild?? This story was mysterious, heartwarming, and had a great coming-to-power moment. TONs of tension that made the eventual spicy scene that much better!
Received this as an ARC for an honest review. Let me tell you this has something for everyone. I loved how it was organized by the spice level! It will make it so much easier for everyone to go to what they like. I have not finished it yet but have read quite a few of them. I originally found out about this form LJ Andrews! She is one of my favorite authors so of course I had to start with Throne of Ice and Fury! I loved that we got to see a bit into Valens parent! It was something I didn't know that I needed in my life. If you are a Valen girlie then you have to read this. Lilianna and Arvada's story was so good! I loved them in the broken kingdom series and getting more to them makes me so happy! 10/10!
Another one I would like to mention is Sunset Stakes by Sophia Davis. I really loved the vampire diaries mentions! Had me giggling and kicking my feet! I really enjoyed reading about Ophelia and Adrian's story! The date was the absolutely sweetest thing he could have planned! I will definitely have to check out the Eternalverse!
I also really enjoyed reading a lot of these stories. I got to meet a lot of new authors I have not heard of before, and now my TBR list is even longer! This was such an amazing thing all of these authors did and I can't wait to keep reading and support more of you!
"Of Storms and Stardust" is a captivating fantasy romance anthology featuring over 30 short stories and novellas that transport readers into magical worlds filled with love, destiny, and enchantment. With a wide range of beloved tropes—from enemies-to-lovers and second chances to cozy fairy tale retellings—the collection delivers something for every romance and fantasy fan.
While it's impossible to review each story individually due to the sheer number, every single one is truly fantastic. The variety of storytelling and imagination from both familiar and new-to-me authors made for a delightful reading experience. Each tale offers its own spark of magic and hope, creating an anthology that feels fresh and exciting from start to finish. Whether you're drawn to forbidden love, slow-burn romance, or trials of fate, "Of Storms and Stardust" is a must-read for fans of fantasy romance and a great contribution to a worthy cause.
I couldn’t be more thrilled with this collection and found every story a delight!
I really liked this collection. It had a nice variety of stories, was organized by spice level, and featured plenty of authors that I enjoyed. And at 2000+ pages, it was a great deal especially if you are looking for introductions to new authors.
A few standout stories for me included The Lily Gate by Hanna Sandvig, The Prince of Hearts by B. Luna Covello, To Thaw a Phoenix Heart by C.K. Began, Courtship and Court Intrigue by Jes Drew, Court of Shadows and Games by Claudia Klein, and When There's A Tomorrow by Karyne Norton. I could rave about all of the stories in this collection, so that doesn't mean that I didn't enjoy the others. These were just the standouts.
I definitely have plenty more reading to do because of this collection as it has inspired me to pick up stories that I have been putting off. Even if you were looking for stories that were low to no spice, this collection is about half those stories.
Strongly recommend especially since the money is going to help those affected by Hurricane Helene.
Seriously. My love for this has so many facets. It’s a charity anthology, so I love that all these authors got together to support a great cause. It’s almost forty stories and over 2,000 pages…I feel certain that absolutely everyone will be able to find something that resonates with them in here. So many worlds and stories. And most fun perhaps, I hadn’t read things by some of these authors before, so it’s also a great way to dip into finding new favorites!
Elayna R Gallea starts the collection off strong with Heir of Seas and Sorrows. I’ve loved everything I’ve read from her and this was no exception. I adored Calix, and most notably for a story heading the direction this was, Byron too. It was a beautiful turnabout and what a family those two are! Kissed by Thorns from EV Everest is a delightful Beauty and the Beast spin and one of my faves. And HL Burke absolutely cracked me up with the Purrfect Boyfriend. Short and wild. And those are just the three that jumped out at me again as I thought back. So many amazing options in here!
What a delightful collection of romantasy stories from amazing authors, all to support those affected by Hurricane Helene! I thoroughly enjoyed reading the short stories from some of my favorite writers while also discovering new voices and their unique styles. This compilation boasts over 600,000 words!
Not only is it for a great cause, but the cover is absolutely stunning! I love reading compilations like this because they often introduce me to new authors whose stories captivate me, leading me to add even more books to my reading list.
The book features a wide range of spice, from mild (kissing) to more explicit (open-door scenes), with clear labels so you can easily find what you want. If you prefer something mild, check out @constancelopezauthor ; for higher spice levels, @authorljandrews is a must-read!
This is a fantastic opportunity to support hurricane relief, and I’m grateful to all the authors for donating their time and stories!
An excellent romantasy anthology with a little something for everyone, you don't want to miss this while it's still available. The proceeds going to charity is just the cherry on top! This is a very big collection, and took me awhile to get through, but I enjoyed every moment of it! I like that it was organized by spice level, from clean to spicy, making it easier to choose what you'd like to read. The stories and characters represented in them are diverse, and while some stories might not be your cup of tea, I wasn't joking when I said there's pretty much something for everyone! I discovered some new authors whose other books I'll absolutely be checking out, and while I'd love to do a break-down story-by-story, that would turn this review into an essay. I will say that all the stories were minimum four stars from me, with most being five stars. I can't recommend this enough!
So great that all these authors came together for charity! Some new to me authors and some favorites! Looking forward to reading these stories! Love some romance and fantasy worlds! Will update as I read.
Crown of Twelve - RL Perez - Interesting ideas with dark fae causing problems, missing sisters, and loving someone you think you can’t/shouldn’t have. Touching dynamic between Adira and Marek; they are really sweet with each other. I do get frustrated with friends to more, but since this is a quick read, the frustration is a quick thing. I don’t know the source tale for this story, so I can’t compare, but this was an enjoyable read! Looking forward to this series! Love when fairy tales are reimagined!
**A fantasy romance charity anthology** I read Throne of Ice and Fury by LJ Andrews. This short story was how Liliana and Arvad had come to meet. Unfortunately Prince Eli is in this story too. The story was spicy scene. It was entertaining to read their story and how it ties into the series Curse of Shadows and Thorns series.
Sunset stakes by Sophie Davis
Boy was this story was super spicy from the first. The chemistry between Ophelia and Adrain was off the charts. I truly enjoyed the story and I hope their story continues into a book because I need more.
Wings of Change by Stephanie Wallace
The FMC was a fierce warrior and her BFM was also. There was magic, monsters and plenty of adventures to keep you glued to the story. When the FMC meets her true mate the action really picks up and so does the steam. Great book.
I received an ARC in exchange for a review 🫶🏻 All thoughts are my own.
Similarly to other people, I wasn’t able to get through all 600K words and 2000 pages before release date (I don’t know if I’ll ever finish every story!)
But let me say, the 🌶️ STEAMY 🌶️ ones I did read, they were so good! When “Sunset Stakes” ended I let out an audible “NOooooooOooo” 🥲
There’s something for everyone, from 💋 Just Kisses to 🖤 Fade to Black all the way to 🌶️ Mild Spice to 🔥 Steamy. AND I’m getting introduced to some new authors 🫶🏻
✨ 100% of proceeds will support those impacted by Hurricane Helene so your reading supports an awesome cause!
This is the culmination of dozens of authors wielding their romantasy craft to help hurricane victims with longer term recovery. There are over 600,000 words here! What?!
I was honored to read these amazing stories-great palette cleansers and the spice ratings? *chef’s kiss* Each story has a spice level rating, ranging from just kisses to kiss AND tell MUCH more if you feel what I’m laying down! They are organized so you can find what you want to read. There’s truly something for everyone.
ALSO- Every bit of the money they make will be sent to help through reputable organizations. I’m blown away. Don’t wait, be a great human and read that romantasy!!
Going to try and update this as I read more of the short stories and novellas! I received a copy of an ARC copy of this book in exchange for honest reviews by the way. Really like and appreciate how the book is separated by 🌶️ levels and how before each new story there’s a little blurb about it so you can decide if you want to read the next or not without having to leave the book. Most of the stories are low 🌶️/ closed door
Ink: by Melanie Karsak ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Really fun quick and easy read! Only complaint is that I wish the story was longer or there were other books in the world! Wasn’t ready to leave this world or characters at the end
I received this book as an ARC. It's an incredibly thick anthology e-book that has over 2000 pages. I haven't finished it as it's very hefty, but I've enjoyed the few stories I've read. They're all short romantasy stories with varying levels of spice.
The anthology was put together by several authors with 100% of the proceeds going toward the Hurricane Helene relief. If they ever somehow release a physical copy, I'll purchase it, no questions asked. The ebook is currently on Amazon for $10, which is a steal for the amount of content you get.
I highly recommend this giant book, and thank E.V. Everest so much for sending it to me.
Valira possesses the power of fire and the power of ice, gaining the focus of both kingdoms - either to kill her or to use her. Can she learn to control both powers or will they destroy her?
Caelan is on a mission to exterminate the danger posed to the Kingdom of Ash, but the young woman he confronts does not seem like the threat he was sent to kill.
I am curious to see where this series goes. It has good potential. I received a free copy but my review is honest and voluntary.
