Walk Through the Valley

Rate this book
Cindy has waited a long time for Jeremiah to share the secrets of his past with her and she’s not going to let the murder of a young woman at a political rally at the church keep her from finding out exactly what the rabbi has been hiding. Just when she’s beginning to get answers, though, an emergency phone call sends her off to Las Vegas to the bedside of her injured brother and leaves Jeremiah to solve the mystery himself. Before she knows what’s hit her Cindy finds herself at the center of a much more personal investigation and the target of an unseen stalker who wants to know everything he can about her.

Once again Cindy stumbles onto a murder at her church. Before she can become involved in solving the crime though she is off to Las Vegas to be by the side of her brother who is in a coma after an accident.

Jeremiah is left behind though to help solve the mystery. Jeremiah telling Cindy a part of his past didn't go over too well before Cindy left. Jeremiah has tried to leave before his past catches up with him, but Cindy has a hold of his heart and he is reluctant to put their relationship behind. Besides, who would protect Cindy if he isn't around?

Mark and Traci are on vacation and Mark is determined to relax and put all thoughts of murder behind him for two weeks. Unfortunately murder has a way of following Mark, Cindy and Jeremiah even when they aren't in the same place at the same time!

There seemed to be a lot going on in this installment of the Psalm 23 Mysteries. I think I would have preferred all of the main characters to be together rather than working apart. Eventually Jeremiah and Cindy do end up working on the same mystery together, so that was good. As far as the 3 separate mysteries go, I thought they were all good and maybe could have been developed into their own stories. I'm still a fan of the series and am once again looking forward to the next installment where I hope all of the friends will once again be together. Oh, and Jeremiah and Cindy's relationship heated up a bit in this one! Can't wait to see where that goes.

As with all the psalm23 mysteries, I couldn't stop reading, couldn't get enough of Cindy and Jeremiah. I was on the edge of my seat with tense shoulders and clenched teeth.

And even though the secretary and the rabbi are the best of friends, they only barely reveal any of their true feelings for each other. *dreamy sigh*
Oh July 2014, do come soon. I need to read #9.

So here we are again with Cindy, Jeremiah, and Mark. Only this time, Mark and Traci are headed to Tahiti for a much-needed vacation, and Jeremiah has started telling Cindy some about his past. So, things should be relatively calm, right? Not even close.
Jeremiah tells Cindy he thinks it's time for him to leave because it's too dangerous to her for him to stick around. Cindy not only doesn't take this well, she accuses him of being a coward. Jeremiah gets angry and storms out of the house and Cindy, guessing he's gone to the synagogue, follows him. When she gets close there's a lot of traffic because Henry White, a candidate for governor is holding a press conference at Cindy's church, which is right next door. Cindy decides to duck into the ladies' room at the church to wash her face because she had been crying. She walks into the ladies' room and finds a dead woman...with the gubernatorial candidate bending over her covered in blood. Jeremiah comes to the church when he sees Cindy's car in the parking lot and gets pulled into the action as well. As noted earlier, Mark is on vacation and Liam, a new detective is on the case and knowing Cindy and Jeremiah have helped Mark in the past, Liam asks for their help with this one. Jeremiah refuses because he doesn't want to get involved with a case with a prominent politician because he doesn't want any press coverage focused on him. Just as he's saying no Cindy gets a call from her father. Her brother Kyle has been involved in a bad accident and it's not certain that he will live.
Cindy goes to be with her family and Jeremiah, against his will, gets pulled into the case.
And if you're thinking Mark and Traci are just lolling on the beach during all this, the first morning they're in their island paradise, a man is found in his room, dead under suspicious circumstances.
Mark says not his problem, not his jurisdiction, and besides, he's on vacation. Traci persuades him to help out.
Meanwhile, in Las Vegas, it comes to light that the car accident wasn't exactly an accident, so Cindy gets involved in trying to sort this out. So here we have our three favorite crime solvers but they're all in different places working on different cases. Quite an adventure!! Jeremiah comes to help Cindy out and things start heating up between them. Can't wait to get to the next installment!!

I had trouble seeing how the title of this had anything to do with the storyline. Most of the others in this series, the title's relationship to the story was more apparent.

In this book, the main characters are split apart into three separate geographies, each solving their own murder mystery instead of working together to solve one. It felt odd that they would all three stumble across mysteries wherever they were and that the timing could be so coincidental. I kept expecting the three mysteries to have some common, unifying factor, perhaps due to Jeremiah's past ... SPOILER ... but nope, they were just three separate mini-mysteries, with separate motives, people, etc.

Because there were three mini-mysteries instead of one, less time was devoted to each one and the suspects were less well-defined or well-described. There were fewer suspects for each, too, which made them easier to solve.

I found Kyle's decision with Lisa troubling. There's nothing wrong with what he ultimately decided to do, but his reasons for going about it seemed off and not at peace.

If Cindy really thought that Jeremiah would kill Christopher for just being helpful to her, then that poses obvious red flags in their relationship, and she should distance herself from him and let him go. She seems too far into the relationship to even consider that, however.

Cindy finally discovers Jeremiahs secret, and after an argument he leaves. After a few minutes she goes after him, trying to make things right, and instead comes across a body with a governor hopeful standing over the body. Normally she would call Mark but he's in Tahiti on a well earned vacation so his partner Liam it is. During the interviews Cindy receives a phone call saying her brother was in a car accident and was in icu. She flies to Las Vegas to be with her family and discovers that the accident wasn't actually an accident after all, somebody actually tried to kill her brother and new fiancée. With Jeremiah still in California solving one murder, and Mark in Tahiti stumbling across his own victim, can the 3 of them solve their cases alone?
This was probably one of the slower books of the series. While it was a relief to get some answers on jeremiahs past, splitting the story between 3 different cases meant that all of them seem to be only half covered but all were still met with a satisfying conclusion

A new threat to Cindy Preston makes Rabbi Jeremiah Silverman tell her some of his past and decide to leave. Cindy follows him and discovers a dead woman's body in the church restroom with a popular politician kneeling over it. Cindy wants to discover the murderer but receives a call telling her that her brother Kyle and his fiancée have been in a terrible accident in Vegas. Cindy discovers that it wasn't an accident, that someone tried to kill Kyle and Lisa.

Meanwhile, Jeremiah tries to track down the murderer of the girl. He doesn't believe it was the politician, but he feels tense over not being with Cindy.

Exceptional story... with the main (and even some secondary) characters' relationships developing to grip the reader even further. I'm beginning the 9th book in the series immediately! Addicting -- in the most positive way!

One of Debbie Viguie's characters refer to the architecture of Las Vegas as being mind-boggling. I would like to suggest that actually, what Viguie has done with her characters and the development of Cindy and Jeremiah's relationship is mind-boggling. After so many books, you would think the whole premise of the books would be old. No! You feel like you're on a wild journey on the back roads in southern Ohio or northern Kentucky. The car of your mind is whizzing along fast in one direction, when, you round the curve and there's a steep cliff on one side and a drop off on the other. So many circumstances for Cindy, Jeremiah, Mark, Tracy, Kyle, and a few others to get into and to need to escape. Just when you think you see the way out, Viguie' deftly steers the story wheel the opposite direction, leaving you reeling and hitting the reading accelerator to learn more as quickly as possible. We learn a secret or two, FINALLY! The next book cannot come soon enough!

My husband and I absolutely love this series, and we thoroughly enjoyed this book, especially because of all the great character development and the way the characters grew deeper in their relationships. Especially Cindy and Jeremiah, yay!

I gave it only four stars because I thought the mysteries were a little weaker than in the other books. There are actually three mini-mysteries in this book since the characters are in different places than each other for much of the book. I kept expecting them to somehow connect into one big mystery but they don't. I think because of the three mysteries in this one, they come across more as novella or short-story quality mysteries simply because there are so many of them.

There was a lot in this book. A politician is walking the state of California, to get in touch with his possibly future constituents, and is found by none other than Cindy Preston... standing over a dead body in the ladies' bathroom at Good Shepherd. Mark and his wife are vacationing on a beautiful island... where they solve another murder with Elisa, a writer with a penchant for coming across dead bodies like their favorite church secretary back home. Cindy has a family emergency which takes her to her knees. And we see another peek at Jeremiah's past. My favorite scene is a prayer in a hospital. There are miracles where people of faith join together.

In this action packed installment of the Psalm 23 Mysteries series, we get three exciting mysteries! Cindy stumbles upon another dead body at her church. Before she can start investigating, she gets a call that her brother was in a serious car accident in Las Vegas. She rushes to his bedside and discovers that it wasn't an accident after all. Meanwhile, Jeremiah continues investigating the murder in California. Detective Mark and his wife Tracy are enjoying their relaxing vacation in Tahiti when Mark stumbles upon a murder there. Debbie Viguié has written another exciting page turner!

Like a letter from an old friend....

Like a letter from an old friend....

I have to say my major disappointment was the length of the book, too short. I wanted to keep reading but the book was over. My reaction to a new psalm 23 book is the same reaction one would have to a letter from an old friend, heartfelt and welcome. Almost the entire cast of characters were on deck for this book, just all in different locations. It was very enjoyable and I don't quite know how I will survive until July. Well done D.V. keep up the good work.

This series is one of my all time favorites! I lose myself in the story and the characters are my friends. I know I have a hope for love to bloom. For a chance at life to be born from the ashes of the past. I love the friendship that has grown. The trust and help that comes natural. Now that is a gift from God! Trials that could tear people apart and break them is making them stronger and closer! That is the difference when God is part of the plan!

I look forward to the next books...

I am a little depressed that I have caught up with the author on this series. I want the next one out NOW! This one actually had 3 separate mysteries going on as all the normal players were in different places on this. And the story of Cindy and Jeremiah just gets more fascinating the deeper it goes.

I loved this part of the story, at first you think that Kyle is the one being targeted because of his reckless ways in the past, but a twist comes and shows you the truth. In the end, the siblings could not be more different, Cindy for her part is coming out of her shell of safety and it seems that for once Kyle might be retreating into one...

I really love this series and I was VERY sad to see our library did not bother to order the rest of them. It looks like I'll have to buy them from Amazon then donate them to our collection. I've turned a few of our Outreach patrons on to this and I don't want to disappoint them!

Interesting twists

Instead of the usual group investigation, the group is split up and faced with three different mysteries. A serious situation arises that's gonna' take a miracle to resolve, but having Cindy and Jeremiah in your corner could do it.

Always a fun read, although I had to get this one from Interlibrary Loan. For some reason, my public library has the whole series (so far) except for this one volume. ??
