Dr Paul Campbell has it all - a prestigious career as a plastic surgeon, a beautiful home with his loving wife Lisa, and the admiration of his affluent London community. But beneath this idyllic facade, a dark and calculating mind lurks, harbouring obsessions no one can even imagine.
Lisa Campbell's perfect life shatters when a mysterious new neighbour moves in next door. Alexis Johnson seems friendly at first, but her probing questions about Lisa's husband Paul unravel a web of lies and deadly secrets.
But Alexis has her own painful reasons for pursuing the truth, haunted by demons she can never unravel. Is her distrust merely projecting past traumas, or are her gut instincts correct about the depths of Paul's depravity?
Lisa thought she knew everything about Paul. But as Alexis delves into Paul's past, Lisa is forced to confront the possibility that the man she married may not be who he claims to be. Could Paul's genteel exterior be concealing something far more depraved?
With each new revelation, Lisa's world tilts further off its axis.
As Lisa and Alexis form an uneasy alliance to uncover the truth, they find themselves trapped in an intricate game of cat and mouse. But who is the predator, and who is the prey?
From Aaron Quinn comes a twisting psychological thriller that will leave you questioning the depth of your understanding of the people closest to you. With masterfully drawn characters and a gripping premise, The Surgeon’s Secret is a disturbing page-turner with shocking twists you won't be able to put down.
Don't miss this intricately plotted descent into obsession, deception, and the terrifying lengths one man will go to construct his delusional vision of the "perfect" romance.
The Surgeon’s Secret will make you question how well you really know those closest to you.
The brilliant new domestic psychological thriller from Aaron Quinn. Perfect for fans of Daniel Hurst, A J Carter, B.A. Paris, Nicole Trope, and K.L. Slater.
I couldn't put it away even though the constant repetitions were at times very annoying. I wasn't crazy about the way characters behaved - too naive and careless, not realistic. I will not seek other books by the author. I was rather disappointed since I read many good reviews and expected more ...
Repetitive and juvenile style writing. Plot was anticlimactic and predictable. The constant internal monologue and questions were so annoying. Would not recommend this book.
Another fabulous psychological thriller from this author. When the opening prologue is no holds barred, straight in & no messing, you know you’re in for a bumpy ride. This is told in fairly short chapters from varying POVs.
Lisa & Paul Campbell appear to have it all. They met in their 30s & have been married a number of years. Lisa is a successful interior designer & Paul a surgeon, working for the NHS & in Harley Street. Their home is gorgeous & they surround themselves with beautiful things; as they say, they can afford it, so why not? Paul has a best friend, Charles, who he has known since university but Lisa doesn’t really have anyone since her close friend died some months ago. Then Alexis moves in next door, the top floor flat overlooking the Campbell’s immaculate back garden & Paul’s garden office. Alexis calls on her new neighbours to introduce herself & Lisa swiftly views her as a potential friend. Paul is not so keen. Who is this insistent flame-haired incomer & why does Paul react the way he does?
An enjoyable short & pacy read. Trust is such a major part of this story & it is stretched to almost breaking point. Lisa’s world is turned upside down & her story didn’t end how I thought it would. Read it & be entertained.
I kept feeling like I had read this book before. Things were so very similar. Oddly enough it turned. The story took an unexpected turn. There is great character building, incredible plot twists. I enjoyed it.
Boy does this book grab you by the shrt tails and like a dog with a bone, it doesn't let go! A fantastic masterpiece of psychological intrigue. In their 30's Paul and Lisa Campbell seem to have everything that they desire. Both have great careers, Lisa is an interior designer and Paul has is own private practice as a surgeon in Harley Street London. When a new neighbour moves in across the street, Lisa immediately warms to Alexis but Paul isn't that keen on her and how does she know so much about Paul's bestfriend Charles? There are so many twists and secrets to unravel that it will keep you glued to every single page.
Lisa is married to Paul, a successful surgeon and they seem to have the perfect life together. Lisa has noticed a dark side to Paul, but she has ignored it. Paul is very secretive about his growing up, his past life and he has no family. Alexis, a photographer, moves in next to them and becomes friends with Lisa. Little does Lisa know that Alexis has her own agenda and her own secrets. This is a good read but the characters are pretty much all unlikeable and I did not like the ending.
Once again an absolutely stunning read from this author! I found this book very difficult to put down, it is very readable with short, to the point chapters. The fact that the chapters are written from different POV's also keeps you on your toes and ensures that you want to keep on reading to find out what happens and as to who (if anyone) is telling the truth. A great read with a few twists which I did not see coming - recommended!
This was a really good psychological thriller! Just when you think you have it all figured out, bam, a new twist happens! Lisa and Paul have the perfect life. He's a successful surgeon and she is a high end interior decorator. Alexis, a new neighbor moves in and everything changes for Lisa and Paul.
This book had a good juicy story, BUT I give it 3 stars because I figured out the ending about halfway through the book, it was slightly obvious to me what the ending was going to be. I did like the book, the last page of the book had a JUICY twist, so if there is a second book I'll be reading it for that reason.
Aaron Quinn, The Surgeons Secret. This book will hook you from page one it will have you thinking one thing then lead you in a completely different direction only to find yourself back where you were then at the end throw you a real curve ball of a finish what a great read.
I enjoyed this one - definitely kept me guessing. Ends with a lot of questions up in the air that I'm not sure I love. I was a little confused during the last several chapters. Overall an enjoyable read!
What a brilliantly written book, i read it in less than a week, could not put it down, the plot just seemed to go on and on and all of those twists and turns, thoroughly enjoyed it i would recommend it to anyone.
If you want to read a book, where you figure out what's happening pretty much from the start, this is the book for you. No real surprises here, and the end was blah
The book was good from the beginning. However, as the story unfolded I did guess the outcome. Then a further twist at the end. Didn’t hold me like others.
I found this really easy to read but very predictable. If you’re looking for a short, easy to follow thriller then check this out but if you’re wanting something with a shock factor this is not it.
Good story. Kept me engaged. But predictable from nearly the beginning. The ending also seemed a little odd - just the last chapter? Set up for book 2??
