Is it reckless for a master’s student to blur the lines with her hot, older professor—a legendary storm chaser?
Without a doubt.
But when a tornado strikes during Finley and Professor West’s first chase together, something far more dangerous than the storm pulls them in. Boundaries shatter, and so do their reservations.
Now, as they tear across Oklahoma with his famous storm chasing team, he’s they crossed a line that should never have been crossed. He’s her professor, and she’s his student—nothing more.
But with every storm they face, they’re drawn deeper into a whirlwind that threatens to consume them both.
we were doing okay until she let him shove his dirty fingers up her vagina. you're thinking, well, it can't be that bad? uhm, said fingers were holding onto a ditch some minutes before 😖 they were heavily making out, she touched him, he touched her, and they had sex right after surviving being in basically the eye of a tornado by hiding in that ditch ―meaning they were dirty, stained with muddy water, sweaty, wet, still surrounded by dust-filled air, and with debris not that far away. i can understand the adrenaline of the moment but babes, a hug and/or kiss after getting up and moving farther away (than just to the grassy bank next to it) from the scene would've sufficed.
though the descriptions of the storms were super cool, i can't let go of that first sex scene and no longer feel like reading this 🤸♀️
feels like its well researched (says the non-weather girlie)
Joey - my love, my sweet baby, the best side character around- steals the f-ing show (in the best way possible)
Not that spicy (4 scenes-ish) - but the ditch banging was so freaking hot 🥵
Audio narration was fantastic but I had a small issue (that is totally a me problem) with the sound effects. Since I live in N. Texas my pups are trained to retreat to the bathroom when the weather alert goes off - this made for a couple stressful moments today while listening on speaker. Again totally a me problem but something to note (and the authors note in the beginning does discuss sound effects).
I was absolutely engulfed in this narrative for the first 80% - on par to be a 5⭐️ but it did lose me a little in the last 20% as the MCs struggled with the logistics of it all.
highly recommend if you want something fun, short and sweet, with a little spice!
Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Select/Fat Babe Publishing for sending this book (ALC) for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

Did you watch the new Twisters and think "damn I love all this tension, but I'm dying for some spice." THIS IS THE BOOK FOR YOU!! The people, the spice, and the amount of research Kayla did for this book is so so good. And the fact that this is an age-gap PROFESSOR romance ugh chefs kiss.
As always, the plus-size representation is wonderful. The way Kayla always describes these beautiful bodies and beautiful characters is like a warm hug to the heart.
Kayla also does an awesome job of making you fall in love with the side characters! I was dying for more Joey! And I'm crossing all my fingers and toes he will get his own book 🥹 pretty please!
This was such a fun book to read. The characters, all of them, were hilarious and just so easy to escape within. It was a very quick read for me and was a great palate cleanser when I needed it.
Have an ever thought of reading a book about storm chasing?? No, but Kayla did an amazing job of explaining things and the visuals made it feel like I was in movie and experiencing this all with the team.
Ryder and Finley were both so in love with the same thing, storms, that you can tell that were just got each other. And the whole student teacher taboo aspect made it so much better. Suuuure they had their little tension moments cause Professor west needed to pull his head out of his aas, but that gave you feeling for the story.
The side characters, especially Joey, made me laugh so hard cause you could feel the friendship within this group. The giddiness of their excitement for what they were doing and experiencing.
This author’s books just work for me, I always know what they’re going to deliver on and I’m here for it. Fun, steamy, emotional connection, plus size characters.
Whirlwind is exactly what you expect from the cover! An action adventure romance involving stormchasing! Twisters who? If you enjoyed that movie franchise and was like yeah I wish it was steamier, well here ya go. This has a forbidden element to it (professor x student) and an age gap (he’s 42, she’s 25). We drop in to the story realizing that the characters have a bit of a connection already. Sure it could have been nice to see a little bit more of that on page, but I think this worked for me at the same time cause of the length of the book, it’s just under 250 pages and I feel like that was just the right amount!
I received an audio ALC, all thoughts in this review are my own.
I picked this up because it was short, and I was in a bit of a funk. In hindsight, though, I think this story needed more pages to build depth within the plot. It felt very surface level. A lot of the relationship development happened off page, so I didn’t really connect with either main character or feel invested in their relationship. It came across as more of an insta-love situation, since we didn’t actually get to see the year they supposedly spent getting to know each other. That made it hard to buy into the romance. I did enjoy the storm chasing element, though. It was something completely new to me and added a unique angle to the story.
Normalizing interactions in fiction that are incredibly dangerous in real life isn't sexy or cute. I really want the age gap romance to die in a fire already. He could drive a car when she was born. What well adjusted 42 year old *adult* is pursuing a girl who could literally be his daughter, instead of a woman his own age?? You could get forbidden fruit tingles with a young PhD (like ..a 29 year old one) and his grad student in the same scenario without continuing to normalize age gaps that are just plain predatory.
Thanks to Kayla, her publisher, and NetGalley for providing me with an ALC of her latest book!
4/5 ⭐️ 2.5/5 🌶️
I absolutely love me so mme Kayla Grosse and have had this book on my radar for a minute (Do you see what I did there?) This book was just so fun! Twisters with a smutty twist! I have been a storm spotter for my state for about a decade and have always had a fascination with storms so I knew this book would be right up my alley. It doesn’t dive into the *science* but just packs action, fun characters, and some sizzling chemistry.
If you love Kayla’s books make sure to give this one a shot when it publishes. If you have yet to read anything from her, what are you waiting for?
So I think Grosse published around this fascination of storm daddy in Twisters coming out- and all for it! This actually pulled me in and was more than chasing but did have science to it but not overwhelming. Made for a good story with PLENTY of tropes- age gap, professor so of course forbidden, breeding kink (tell me I’m wrong…) and just spicy! Loved!
KU Read - 230 Pages Small Town vibes Storm Chasers Forbidden Love Professor x Student Age Gap
It's nothing like the movie Twister but I got the exciting vibes when they were out storm chasing. Ryker is Finlays Professor and also an internet famous storm chaser. He's been obsessed with her for over a year but never acted on his feelings until they share a neat death experience while chasing a tornado. Finlay has had a crush on her idol and professor for a long time but doesn't want home to new product his career for her even though she is falling hard. If they decide to chose each other something has to give.
If you liked the 2024 Twister film and said “hey this would be great if there was more spice” then you'll probably love this! I did! Firstly, the characters are great, especially the side characters (Joey my beloved I would die for you) and a well written and driven FMC that has personality and passion! We love to see it 🫶
It had a good balance of storm chasing plot to romance and the dialogue mostly felt natural. You could tell the MMC, Ryker, really cared about and appreciated Finley (our FMC) and that this wasn't just another lusty male character who only cared about the FMCs physical attributes but saw her for who she was and loved her for her passion, interests, and quirks.
While the ending was a little dry near the end and difficult for me to focus on it was still a fun read and the spice was spicy 👌
Notable features: 🌪️Forbidden romance (professor/student) 🌪️Age gap 🌪️Whatever the opposite of a slow burn is 🌪️Open door, descriptive on page spice 🌪️Plus size FMC 🌪️He falls first and harder
way way WAY too fast & im sorry but girl why u going to quit your masters degree over a professor/ storm chaser that you practically don’t know?? like okay he might be sexy looking and good in bed, BUT USE YOUR BRAIN OHMY GOD
Twister is one of my all-time favorite movies, and honestly, there’s nothing more perfect than that concept reimagined as a traditional rom-com. Kayla Grosse’s writing is witty, addictive, and impossible to put down. It’s a sweet, easy read made even better by the obvious care and research she put into capturing the world of tornado chasing in an accessible and engaging way.
That said, Ryker and Finley’s grievances do get a bit repetitive. Once their issues are established, they’re easy to grasp, but the constant reminders start to feel like overkill. As much as I enjoyed their dynamic, it’s side character Joey Jensen who completely steals the show. I would love a standalone novel just about him. Still, Ryker and Finley had me hooked—and when Ryker isn’t being whiny, he’s actually pretty hot.
Minor critiques aside, I had a fantastic time with this book and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun, easy read or a great romantic palate cleanser.
I absolutely ate this book up. I love Kayla’s writing and Whirlwind hit all my favorite spots. Age Gap, Student/Professor, close proximity. Spicy scenes were 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I loved Joey the most. The best voice of reason. 😂 I aspire to be just like Joey! It’s nice to have great side characters as well. Though Finley and Ryker on their own is enough. The whole group is top tier.
“If you don’t chase the storm, you never know if you’re going to catch it.”
What a fun tornado chasing adventure romance! This was such a quick, no BS, straight to the point romance and my first by Kayla Grosse!
After watching Twisters, I knew I needed to find a nice and spicy romance as a follow-up! The whole time I read, I had the soundtrack from the movie playing in my head. I mean, how could I not? So fun!
I really enjoyed the cast of side characters and how Finley fit right in with them. It was heartwarming to see. I also enjoyed seeing Fin and Ryker dance around their feelings for one another. Forbidden relationships really do get your heart pumping!
I enjoyed this one and am looking forward to reading more fun and spicy romances from Kayla in the future!
I love me some Grayson Owens & Victoria Connolly, but you put them in duet & in a Kayla Grosse story?! FRIKKIN FANTASTIC! They’re perfect as Ryker & Finley, & I absolutely loved this performance! The little sound effects throughout were also a great detail. They weren’t overwhelming & didn’t overshadow the audio at all, I thought they were great touches & made it an even more immersive reading experience!
PS: Rob Moreira is also great in this one!!
Story review below:
Kayla Grosse doesn’t miss! I enjoyed this one so much!
“Professor West” “Ms. Buckley” LAWWWWD🥵
We all know Kayla is queen when it comes to plus size FMCs, men who are obsessed with them, & spicy spice, but I was blown away (no pun intended 😂) by this one & the action! The storm & chase scenes were so good! I also learned a lot about storms through this one lol!
Finley was such a badass! I loved that she had multiple talents & was confident to pursue them. And storm chasing solo? You go girl! The dynamic between her & Ryker is delish, being forbidden & a nice age gap too😮💨 They are pretty angsty as well, with the back & forth on if they should pursue each other or not, & the pining on both parts.
They are hot hot hot when they do come together (maybe a little pun intended there 🙃), my kindle & AirPods were melting 🥵
PS: Joey is hilarious, I love him, & I need a novella/novel of him & Hawke PLEASE & THANK YOU! Ezra is also intriguing with his quiet self, so I just know he would be delish as well if there are future books with these characters 😉
“Whirlwind” was very hot! 🔥 The chemistry was off the charts, and the banter had me laughing out loud 😂. Totally entertaining from start to finish 👌. My first spicy storm chaser romance, and I’m seriously hoping it won’t be my last 🤞. A wild, fun ride you won’t want to put down! ⛈️❤️🌪️
