“I give into his devastating control as I forget who I am – or who I thought I was. Because right now, it feels like all I’m supposed to be is his.”
EMMA Confessing my dark desires to my boyfriend might be the worst mistake I’ve ever made. Not because of his ridicule, but because of the man who overhears.
Before the night is over, I’m kidnapped and locked in a cell as a gift for a ruthless man named Dax, who promises to make me into the finest submissive anyone has ever seen.
But what terrifies me most isn’t his brute strength, the snake tattoo curling down his arm, or the way his gaze strips me bare. It’s the way his dominance sparks something dark inside me—a desperate need to obey, no matter how depraved his demands.
As resistance and desire blur, I’m forced to confront a horrifying truth: Dax isn’t just breaking me—he’s awakening a part of me I swore I’d never become. Soon, my worst nightmare is not the one I’m living but the idea of leaving it.
DAX I thought I wanted to train a natural submissive, but when Mikhail brings me one, I’m skeptical. Not only am I not convinced of her submission, but I’m stuck in my ways—comfortable in my cold, detached routines.
But I decide to give it a shot. A grave mistake that throws my whole damn life into chaos.
Carefully and methodically, I break down her barriers and coax out her submission. But to do so, I have to open up and give a piece of myself. And the little sub sneaks in and takes as she sweetly gives in. Not only does she stir my protectiveness and obsession, but also my insomnia and PTSD.
Now I have to figure out if she’s destroying or mending me.
This is a pitch black short novel that can be read as a standalone. It has a lot of dark, extreme, and explicit content.
Ella Jacobs writes dark and kinky romance. Her books all center around Dom/sub dynamics, ranging from BDSM relationships with light dub con to pitch-black captor/captive stories with Stockholm syndrome and heavy non con.
What all her stories have in common is the emotional depth that makes them feel very raw and real. They will pull at all your heartstrings, maybe gut you and shock you, and take you through the emotional wringer.
Ella lives in Northern Europe, where she has been part of the BDSM community for many years. She lives her own age-gap romance with a stern, loving Dominant, who is always ready for some character analysis and rarely gets jealous when she falls in love with her fictional men.
Besides writing, Ella loves to play music and travel.
Still trying to get this one from knocking around in my head 🤭 Honestly, I’m not sure if this one was en par with Take Me, better, worse or the same…it is a series so they are interconnected and set in the same place (I’m still waiting for an invite 😬🫣) I do not mean that in a bad way, as each had the pitch 5 & M elements just different approaches in their depravity.
I won’t go into great detail or give spoilers as you know if you follow me 😊 A quick rundown, Emma wants to try a little BD5M, her b/f makes her feel ‘dirty’ for even broaching the subject 🤷🏻♀️ ifykyk. Ears were listening, she is kidnapped and taken, awakening in a cell. Her life as she knows it changes, is it for the better? Is it worse than what she knew? No-one but Emma can answer that question and here as a reader, you will struggle with what you’re taught and what your brain interprets, this is how well Ella gets your head in the game and comes from her knowledge of that headspace/submission/subspace 🤭
To summarise; I devoured this book in one go, just couldn’t put it down, it hangs, draws and quarters you! It does put you back together again however, your brain will still process it long after you’ve finished. Where’s your head at 🤯⛓️🖤
2,5⭐️ Never checking trigger warnings? Yeah, I knew that was gonna bite me in the ass eventually.
I can’t say the book is bad, it’s just not for me. I’ve read some pretty messed-up stuff, but this was on another level. Every time I found myself enjoying a scene or feeling... something, I immediately felt manipulated, just like Emma was throughout the entire story.
I can’t label sex trafficking as romance. This was Stockholm syndrome and psychological manipulation at its finest. And honestly? I hated myself for rooting for them. For feeling happy about their HEA. It did exactly what it set out to do, I just wish I hadn’t followed it there.
I’m so captivated by Ella’s writing. The way she writes subspace is so euphoric and otherworldly. I loved Dax and Emma’s story so much. For a minute there I didn’t know who was the sub me or Emma. I was fully captivated by him. I loved Emma’s character. She wasn’t the average sub but also was never a brat. She has been my favorite sub to read and be inside her head. I’m loving this series and can’t wait for more. I’m ready for Dorin and Mikhail’s stories.
Where Take Me captivated me,Break Me held me prisoner from start to finish. And the Enslaved world Ella Jacobs introduced me to still has a hold on me…..i still want to hear more,a lot more! It shows me how much she’s grown as an author from the first book she so generously shared with me,Not Yours to Keep, and i’m sure she’s going to get even better. So,if you like this genre,i suggest you keep a close eye on her,i know i do!
Emma is on holiday with her boyfriend when she finally has the courage to ask him to try something new. But while he crushes her with his reaction, someone else is véry interested….. And after her reaction to the test he does to see if she’s serious, she finds herself abducted. Taken without any hope of being saved,to a place where women are prepared to be sold as slaves. Delivered to a cruel man who’s been searching for a natural submissive, even if he won’t admit it. And against all odds, this man becomes her world…..
After training Julie,Nikolai’s sub, with Mikhail,Dax was left with a need for a sub of his own. At the same time,he knew the world he lived in wasn’t a good place to have one. The women were merchandice, and caring about them was not something he did…. So,how would he be able to for a sub, even if she was his? Until Mikhail brought Emma…..there was something about this girl that drew him in from the start. She made him be gentle with her,and that alone was a first….
Everything Dax did to Emma made her sink deeper into her submission to him. And Emma’s submission in turn made Dax want her for himself more each day. Until the day where she was badly hurt……and all hope of a happy after seemed lost.
Emma’s surrender to Dax,the way he coaxed out her submissive side was so beautiful. How she in turn found his heart, and made him care, was just as wonderful to see. And their story,in a place where you’d least expect it,shone a light into the dark that gives hope for others. Like Dorin maybe? Or Mikhail? I really hope Ella will return, and share their stories with us……
Somehow, Jacobs managed to make the series even darker in book two. And I am totally here for it! At this point, I'm running out of ways to praise Jacobs' writing, but I'll try anyways.
For me, this book was definitely more psychologically dark than the first one and it made you question so many things about the characters (and yourself a little bit). The writing grabs you and just carries you along for a wild ride.
Dax is one of the darkest MMCs I've ever read, and there were so many times he made me mad and horrified with his actions. And yet, I fell in love with him.
Emma is such a sweet, gentle soul looking for something, which she eventually finds in Dax and their relationship. I connected with Emma immediately and absolutely love her character.
Please for the love of all things romance, read every trigger warning for this book because it is pitch black. If you can manage, I really cannot recommend Jacobs' books enough.
Read ALLLLL of the trigger warnings. Not cool with that list? Don’t read it. Was I horrified at parts? Absolutely. Did I have to breathe through some triggers? Sure. I knew what I was getting into when I read it. So, I’m rating the stars based on how quick I read through this book and how I was pulled into the story. This isn’t a soft romance or just any regular spicy book. Those that read and enjoyed the book don’t have something wrong with them or wish for things to happen in real life (I mean, ok trauma…but hey). So, this isn’t for the judgemental.
Still with me? OMG!! This dark, erotic, twisted book will make your jaw drop and have you staying up to finish it. Dax is dark, powerful, and ruthless. He’s been wanting to train a natural sub instead of forcing it. Emma wants someone to take control, but she did not expect what happens after meeting a mystery man in a bar. Kidnapped and locked in a cell. Treated as property.
So many conflicting emotions you might have as a reader right alongside of Emma. Ella did an amazing job evoking emotion and building the desire and spice.
Thank you to Ella for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book was intense, depraved and extremely DARK but oh so good. I finished this book over a week ago but it still lives in my head rent free. I cried, I cringed, I thought my heart skipped town, but overall it was really good and I can’t wait to read more from other side characters.
Break Me by Ella Jacobs Dark captive romance (Enslaved Series Book 2) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️~Stars 🥵🥵~Spice
Tropes: • Abduction • Captor/Captive • Dub Con / Non Con • Submissive Training • Stockholm Syndrome • Possessive MMC
🖇️ “You’re mine now. In every sense of the word. Mine to use, mine to control, and mine to keep safe. I promise I will do all of those.”
▪️ HOLY SMOKE! Ella Jacobs what did you put in this book!?!? I devoured this book as if my life depended on it. Dax & Emma stole my heart and I really don't want their story to end now that everything just got so🤌🏼 But that's the way it always is, all good things must come to an end! Now I look forward to getting the next book because I just know it will be just as phenomenal as this one if not EVEN better🖤
This is a dark read that includes many triggers (so please heed the warnings.) These include, but not limited to, kidnapping, dub consent, mind and body manipulation amongst other things. Its the second book in the series, but can be read as a stand alone. Each features a different couple, but the past, and possibly the future, characters are mentioned and may make appearances. Emma was approached by a stranger while in a bar with her boyfriend. She was unhappy with the way her boyfriend treated her (or her opinions.) Mikhail, owner/operator of a slave/sex trafficking enterprise, notices her and knows she's the right girl for Dax, one of his trainers. Just what he's been looking for... a natural submissive. Dax has a need to give pain, but with Emma, he just can't bring himself to go full throttle with her. He finds himself going soft with her, even as he trains her to be sold to another. Obviously this is intended for mature readers. There are definitely moments that may make you squirm. It's well written and a good, even if a little heartening to know things like this actually happen in real life, dark story.
Oh my god! This was a spectacular ride. These books captivated me. I loved the Dax and Emma book. Emma One night she dares to confess to her boyfriend that she wants to try bdsm, but she doesn't know that a stranger heard those desires and that night she would be kidnapped. This is a slow burn where these two are slowly falling for each other, Everything Dax did to Emma made her sink deeper into her submission to him. Here we see a little more about the kidnappings of the other women, the whole Mikhail business. I also liked the new friendship Emma made with Dorin's new girl,
This book is dark very dark please check the warning ⚠️
DNNFFFFFFFF, ABSOLUTELLLLLLLLLYYYYY NOT, ABSOLUTELY NOT. tremendously HORRID mistake for not reading the trigger warning in DEPTH, yeah just thought I'd be reading some slightly DARKER book but I can't even bring myself to call it a book because it's like unreadable, someone getting their teeth PLIED out, Emma forced to eat her food like a DOG, someone "messing up" with a girls arm like what? I only read about 12 chapters before stopping, the way SO many people rated this 5 and said "had me hooked" is GOBBBSMACKING.
DNF. Complete rubbish. Despite the trigger warnings, this book isn’t dark romance it’s trashy romance. Gross. For the idiots that gave this book a 5 star, please get a grip, go outside, and touch some fucking grass.
Once again, five stars for intended effect. This is a pitch black dark romance. Mind your TWs. I have none, so I continue to read this series, but I do require an immediate palate cleanser because GD are these dark. Take Me was hard to read for a slew of reasons, but Break Me was equally hard to read for a different slew of reasons. Take Me was more of a look at the physical experience whereas Break Me is definitely more of a mental experience.
Mental mind fucks are a unique, complex, damning thing. They make you feel things, realize things, and accept things. It's a terrifying concept. That your psyche may be fragile or strong and yet still succumb. The writing is so real, so raw, you'll feel like you're actively living the experience. Do with that what you will.
The dedication: “A submissive is someone who enjoys giving up control. No, needs to give up control. She might not realize it at first—like you—until someone or something sparks it in her. But she won’t be truly happy until she finds it and embraces it. When she does, she’ll find peace in letting go—giving up control and being led by a firm hand. But true submission can’t be forced. It requires trust and a dominant strong enough to carry the responsibility of her surrender.” - Dax
Ooh Ella, what an amazing book! It starts with Emma and her boyfriend on vacation in a different country and Emma finally gets the courage to ask him to add a little BDSM into their relationship. He then turns her down and makes her feel “gross” and completely denies her saying there’s something wrong with her wanting that. During that moment, Emma disassociates and notices another man in the bar staring at her and hearing this conversation. This man ends up kidnapping her and taking her to meet Dax.
Dax is ordered to train Emma and make her his sub. He ends up becoming obsessed with her and she obsessed with him. Her submission means wanting and craving Dax in a way she never saw coming. “I want him. I want all that intense energy directed at me. I want to be the center of his attention. The center around which the storm orbits. I don’t care if it rips me apart or tears me to pieces; I just want it to consume me.” I loved the underlining connection between Emma and Dax versus the first book in this series as well.
While Take Me had more of a strict training theme to it and not a whole lot of actual relationship connection outside of training; Break Me was so much more! Ella’s writing just gets better and better with each book! I can’t wait to read more in this series!
Quick Summary: Emma gets kidnapped, taken to a dungeon and is introduced to a whole new world and lifestyle (this is the clean version of what the book really is)
Like always with these books, please check the trigger warnings as this is a pitch black book with the MC having questionable morals.
I LOVED this book so much! I haven't read a book that was as complete as this one. Ella mentioned that this book is going to be different then the previous book due to it having more plot. She was absolutely right! The spice to plot ratio was perfection. I am in such a huge book slump after reading it. Ella does such a good job with getting you to feel the emotions of both of the characters and pull for them even though you know their motivations are out of this world!
Dax and Emma will most likely be my favorite book couple (if you can call them that) for a long time. Both characters are so incredibly complex and deep and the development they have over the course of the book was phenomenal. Dax is a DARK character, he enjoys doing what he does and he does very questionable things throughout the book. Emma is the complete opposite of Dax, but some of her actions also make you think about her morals. Together, I couldn't get enough of them.
I highly recommend this book if you are a fan of pitch dark books, smutt and are okay with a book that has a lot of triggers (kidnapping, sexual scenes, sexual abuse, physical abuse, etc).
Thank you so much to Ella Jacobs for provided me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review. This will most likely be one of my favorite books of the year and it's only January :D.
I received this book as an ARC and I am leaving this review voluntarily!
We follow the FMC Emma as she navigates the difficult emotions she faces while undergoing training, and how conflicted she is about her new position in life.
We also get to experience the MMC Dax as he comes alive once again, and the protectiveness that awakens as he gets closer to Emma.
This book focuses more on the psychological aspects of dark romance. Don’t expect a lot of spice going into this. However you need to be prepared for the emotional journey this takes you on! Don’t make the assumption that this book is a light version of a dark romance, because this is still DARK just not in the physical sense! I would advise you to check your triggers before going into this book! I would definitely recommend reading this!
This was really, really good. And so well written. I actually loved this one more than book one. Maybe because I knew what to expect, or maybe because I liked Emma and Dax more? Not sure, but this was my favorite and easier to handle and read. Emma is traveling through Europe with her jerk of a boyfriend when she catches the eye of a man. He sees her natural submissive tendencies and kidnaps her. She is sent to a dungeon to train to be the perfect little submissive. We met Dax in book one, and if you remember, he was very cold, detached and clinical. However, he starts to take an appreciation towards her.
These two books are not for the faint of heart. It can be difficult to read for some. The author is an expert in getting you experience the emotions the characters are going through. It’s like you are experiencing these things. So you feel compassion, sadness, frustration, etc as they do. These are definitely different than anything you’ve read but written so well.
Read your trigger warnings!!! Ella does not hold back
If you thought Take Me was intense, buckle up, because Break Me takes it up a notch. Ella Jacob’s delves a little deeper into a different aspect of a D/s relationship. There’s so much out there about sub drop but “Break Me” addresses Top Drop that I felt like was really important to introduce into this series. It’s such a dark series that understanding the other side of the dynamic humanized the MMC. Dax was such a brute force in the first book ( and he still is ) but Emma made him feel again all while he brought out her true submissive side. The series continues to dig deeper into its characters, the complexities of BDSM relationships, their interests, and how vast the BDSM culture is. Dark and intense—this book proves the series is just getting better with every installment.
Ella always captures the internal struggles of the characters so perfectly.
In this second installation of the Enslaved series, Dax has not been the same since training Nikolai’s girl in Take Me (Book 1). Emma is in a relationship with a complete not nice boy. Mikhail inserts himself and gifts Emma to Dax, and then our story unfolds.
The thing I love most about this book, and really anything by Ella Jacobs, is how much she gets me to feel and emote when reading these stories. You want to be shocked? You want to be sad? You want to feel like a “precious little submissive who is making her trainer proud”? THIS. BOOK.
I am always stunned at the actions in these books, but somehow the feelings and relationship between the two makes it all okay. Thank you for another amazing read!
PS: Always check out Ella’s website for content specifics before reading. ;)
I really love this writer. The style is so raw and immersive. At this point this is horror erotica from my opinion, but there is so much more than that. I feel we read about the psychological details behind dom/sub and the author does a great job doing it because I would never see myself in those role. And yet, I really connected with the two female characters. We could really see that Emma has a dependent personnality disorder and kind of understanding it even if I cant relate. This add a lot of Logic in all this depraved world. The details of the training in their organisation was soooo horrific to Read about I was shook multiple Times during my reading. Great pitch black book. Perfect for the AA Dark fans !
Dnf not even half way through. My fault for not reading the trigger warnings first I guess. Absolutely horrid. This is not dark romance and will never be. You cannot label some sex trackficking book as dr. Not only will she be falling in love with a sex trackficker. Theyve did fgm absolutely ruined her only to make her go through it with pleasure. The girl and her teeth removed was my breaking point. I’m genuinely concerned for those who gave this 5 stars. And myself was absolutely horrified for what was going to happen next. I could skin past her eating like a fricking dog but destroying the girl and to Stockholm syndrome. I really can’t believe people find pleasure in a woman with a name. EMMA. being degraded into a number and an object. This is sex trackficking. This should have been the breaking point for everyone from the beginning.
I am truly at a loss for words to express just how incredible this book is! Oh my gosh, Ella! 😱 This story dives into some dark themes, so I urge everyone to read the trigger warnings beforehand, as it can be quite intense.
Dax is unapologetically ruthless, and Emma craves the control he offers. However, once she finds herself in his grasp, he pushes her to her limits in ways that will make your heart race. The relentless tension and emotional turmoil keep you on the edge of your seat. Get ready for a ride that’s as exhilarating as it is unsettling!
Before I start, READ THE TRIGGER WARNINGS!!!! This isn’t some lightly dark romance…it is a PITCH BLACK story full of trauma. So be sure you are prepared.
This is one of those books that will have you still thinking about it days later. Ella has a way of writing that pulls you in and almost makes you feel like you are experiencing things along with the FMC. Dax had intrigued me in the first book, so I was glad that he got his own book. Seeing the dynamic between him and Emma sent me through such a range of emotions. There were definitely things that were hard to read in this book also. I’m curious to see who we get to read about next from this world.
One night, Emma pours her deepest desires to her boyfriend who his overtly disgusted by them. Ashamed, she returns to her hotel alone and gets kidnapped by a stranger who overheard her darkest desires. She is now to become a submissive, enslaved in a human traff1ck1ng organization.
This is definitely the best book I’ve read from Ella Jacobs so far. I loved Dax and Emma’s dynamic so much. The context we are in and the actions done are irrevocably black, but I cannot help but root for them. The fact that the characters from book 1 are the same, we just follow a different couple, was very entertaining as I love them all. Except Dorin, but I will maybe change my mind with the upcoming book (👀)… As for Mikhail, I cannot wait.
This is purely a d0m/sub dynamic in a human traff1ck1ng cell, st0ckh0lm syndrome involved. If that’s not what you’re looking for, I suggest you don’t read this book as it’s dark and the mental rewiring is strong.
Whilst this book was definitely darker then the first in the way the girls were trained and treated, it didn't feel like it tho with how soft the Doms were and because of that it took away from the darkness. Emma and Dax story delves more into the romance aspect then the first book. Where the first book was cold and detached, this book was more softer and romantic (as much as can be in a sex dungeon) and because of this I didn't enjoy this book as much. With such a harsh storyline (brutally training girls to become subs) I don't want romance. It takes away from the darkness of the story.
Will be reading Dori and Lavianas book. Our poor opera singer 😭 I'm dreading reading about what happened #iykyk
The way I fell for Dax is scary😅 never before have I read such a pitch black romance while screaming at the fmc to just give in! Did I feel bad for her? Yes. Did it change my mind? Nope.
Going in I thought this book was going to break me but the way Dax was to Emma the nurturing and affection, besides the whole piercing her 🫢 no spoilers… he was very soft and loving to her.
The ending almost had me throwing my kindle and if Ella didn’t give us the ending she did I was prepared to riot!
As always CHECK TRIGGER WARNINGS!! Ella pushes limits and you do not want to go into her books blind!
This was a very well written, engaging, very dark romance with some themes that should be taken seriously by readers. This book captivated me and made me feel a lot of different emotions. Fast paced, raw and thought provoking. You really connect with Emma, and everything that she’s going through, and DAX is a perfect Dom. The build up to the end was fantastic, with a fantastic ending that had left me satisfied and made the dark themes all that much more worth it!
I loved it! This was my first book to read by the author and I love the story. Emma out of the country with her trashy boyfriend and she ends up getting kidnapped and taken to get sold. She is presented to Dax. And his job is to make her into a perfect Submissive before she gets sold to her new Master. He makes her do humiliating things. She goes through Hell. It has a really good plot in this book, and I’d recommend reading the TWs before you do. I rated it a 4 star because I felt like it should have gotten a few more spicy scenes.
