When a twist of fate blurs the line between friends and lovers, Solomon and Renee discover a passion they never expected, that neither one can live without.
Welcome one, welcome all, to the nine hundred thirteenth annual tournament! Join the gang from Myths and Legends as they travel to Supernova for a week-long supernatural sporting event. Master swordsmen, elite marksmen, and magical mazes are just a few of the things friends and foes will face as they battle for glory in the arena.
Solomon Reynard is the man behind the magic at the Myths and Legends Casino Resort. As one of the top five sorcerers to ever live, he’s well known for his extraordinary stage shows, and nearly impenetrable security wards, but his legendary sexual antics are perhaps his real claim to fame. Which served him well, until the recent discovery of his mate.
As his personal assistant and closest friend, Renee Jacobs swore long ago that she would never fall prey to Solomon's seductive charms. She knows he will never be happy with one woman, and she isn’t willing to settle for anything less than monogamy.
When forces beyond Solomon and Renee’s control threaten to force their hands, Renee makes a desperate decision that will change their lives forever.
Stacie Simpson writes erotic romance with a paranormal twist. When she’s not writing, she is most likely reading. Stacie lives in Florida where she enjoys the love and support of her wonderful family.
After being annoyed and disappointed with the first two books in this series, I still felt enough for a few of the characters to attempt this one, and I'm glad I did.
Sadly, Simpson still makes frequent, egregious grammar, punctuation, and word choice errors, but her dialogue is much improved and she's "showing not telling" more. The world she describes is building in complexity and providing good conflict for the characters. Renee and Solomon were well-drawn and their love story was the best one to date in the series, largely due to their believable history as friends for decades.
While I applaud Simpson for finally managing to write a book in which the reader does not have to see someone raped, she still defies accepted romance parameters, the chief one being sex outside of a mating pair. Solomon and Renee know they are mates but each have sex with someone else in the beginning of the book - for him, a case of mistaken identity and for her, in the belief that she has been physically rejected as a mate. Those scenes would have been just as effective without having been fully consummated and it would have avoided the feeling of reader betrayal. Character inconsistencies (Renee balks at having sex in the open with her mate but that's what she's doing when Solomon finds her with the fire demon) demonstrate Simpson's ongoing need for a good editor, but significant improvement has at least been made.
The potential of the author, partially realized in this book, only further reinforces the dangers of self-publishing. It's wonderful to have the power to control one's work with the financial responsibility and benefits that come with it, but there is a reason some people aren't published - their work isn't ready to see the light of day. I wish that Simpson had written these books but known that they weren't polished enough to demonstrate her best work, and continued to write and develop her skills before partnering with an editor to develop her ideas. I have a feeling that in a few years she will be quite a good writer (particularly if she can finally master rules of punctuation in fiction) but she's not quite there. I think a time will come when she's embarrassed to have these books out on the market (it's like having published photos of your bad fashion choices when you were a teen) because they will be in marked contrast to her better written work.
(I received this book for free as part of Goodreads First Reads giveaways).

This book was quite an easy read, even though it was the third book in the series. I could understand the plot and the characters really well, with very little confusion.
I felt the author did a really good job of showing how different Solomon's and Renee's world was to the one normal humans inhabited. Although their lifestyle isn't one that would naturally appeal to me, I could understand why the other characters found it so appealing.
The politics involved with the mating added a whole new dimension to the storyline, in my opinion. It was interesting to see how the mates had to deal with the challenges from those who wouldn't accept the mating bond.
It was interesting how the vampire virus worked. I really have gone off most vampire romance fiction, but I felt that this was a fairly unique twist. It was also really cool that the main characters were foxes. I don't think I've seen too many books with fox shifters as one or both of the main characters... though I wouldn't have thought possessiveness was a trait foxes have.
I found the other characters fairly interesting as well, though Rachel really annoyed me through the book. I would be interested to see how her storyline is resolved, though.
I still didn't like the dual first person POV, but the voices of the characters were different enough that it wasn't completely irritating.
The mating marks idea was quite interesting as well. I felt that the author did a good job of allowing the relationship to develop easily and naturally. It was nice to see that Solomon wasn't prepared to force Renee into something she wasn't ready for.
I found this book to be really well-written with good world-building. There were some errors in the writing, but not enough to detract from my enjoyment of the book. I would definitely be interested in reading the other books in this series at some point in the future.
Another spectacular tale of fated mates and troublesome traitors!
Wow! What a roller coaster ride. This is Solomon and Renee's book. He's a fox night shifter/sorcerer who handles the magical protections and displays at the resort. Renee has been his right hand for 30 years, even allowing Solomon to change her to a night shifter. When Serafina broke the spell on Dragon in book one, all the night shifters, even those turned after the spell was cast, felt their animals awake. For Renee, it was a revelation of another kind, realizing the womanizing Solomon was her mate. Months have passed since she left to fill in at another of the United Clans clubs in an alternate universe and Solomon has finally realized the truth but something isn't right. The majority of the book is about the two star crossed mates finally coming to terms and getting a HEA. But we also continue to see the others from the first two books as the overall story arc evolves. Secrets are revealed, lives are forever altered, death occurs, alliances are formed, new enemies are uncovered. I loved every minute! This has become one of my favorite paranormal series along with the Dragon Kin by G. A. Aiken, the Southern Arcana series by Moira Rogers, and the Gray Court series by Dana Marie Bell. Now I must find something else to read while I wait for book 4 of this series...
After rating books 1 and 2 in this series 5 stars, the bar was set pretty high for Tempting Magic (book 3). While I still enjoyed the overall story, I only gave this book 4 stars because of one main issue I had. We were introduced to Solomon Reynard, one of the best sorcerers in the world, in the beginning of this series and throughout the first two books, he is known for his legendary sexual antics. In this book, his shapshifter side (fox) has found it's mate and isn't letting him have sex with other females but is making him seek out his true mate. That's what bothered me about this book. I don't like when the male lead is so promiscuous throughout the book or series and then all of a sudden wants to change his ways and the love interest is supposed to just accept it. Although Solomon does want to find and love his mate, is it really fair to her that she had to watch him having sex with other women for years and then just accept him as her mate. Overall, I still did enjoy this book and will continue to read the series (as they come out) I just wish Solomon's storyline had been a little different.
Solomon, oh Solomon. Such a great magician and has an even greater libido.... I really love his character. The change in him after finally realizing who his mate was, was so sweet. He was almost scared everytime he got hit on by a female. So cute. Anyway, there were parts in the book that really reminded me of Harry Porter. The funny announcer during the games, the maze with the traps, characters changing appearances... but this was a story on its own and in my opinion, better. Yeah, the sex was hot but even taking that out of consideration the story plot is outstanding. I like the fact that they are fighting this Vampire group. But each book hero has his own villain to fight, yet it's a group effort and all other book heroes support each other. Thank you Ms. Simpson for this world you created and for this series being so entertaining. When is the next book coming out? ... and uh what?! Danarius? Villain Danarius and kick-ass Katarina???? What an awesome pairing!
Ok, think I might have hyped myself up too much when I figured out what the big twist was gunna be... so it was all a bit anti climactic. I still liked it, but the 'hint, hint, hint' just seemed to lead to a 'there-ya-go...and movin right along' (1). And then there was another story line - well a few really, but two were handled great and now we just have to politely bitch about how long till the next book (2 & 3) - that was a bit of a fizzer too (4). It will obviously be explored in the next book, but it was almost like an after thought snuck in to line up for the next book.
Just read the above and not sure it's really going to make sense to anyone. As a short clarification for people who have already read the book and am wondering what I'm bitching about, see below.
After reading the first two and now Solomon's story, book one is still my favorite. I wanted to love this story because Solomon was such a womanizer that I really wanted to see him submit but... Renee was so unlikable in the beginning. All the running, pushing him away, public intimacy she shared with another out of spite and also blocking their bond. I stopped and started this book many many times in frustration. However, I stuck it out and although I am pleased that I did, I wouldn't read this one again. Four stars for the authors writing style and including all the characters from previous books so flawlessly. I really do like the series. Recommended but start with Dragon's story, it is still the best.
Solomon and Renee, are by far the best story thus far. I enjoyed how he wanted to protect her, and seduce her. She on the other hand, had other ideas, such as keeping him away from her by magic. But nothing was going to keep Solomon from seeking her out even if he had to go through the back door.
It is intense, romantic, very sexy, with a lot of trust issues, sometimes funny, a lot of sexual innuendos and then some.
I truly enjoyed this story and hope Stacie doesn't wait too long for the next one. It is well written with the right amount of suspense.
First I would like to say I received this book through the goodreads giveaway. I was so glad that I was able to receive this book and be able to read it. The writing is exceptional and the storytelling is enthralling. This is such a great book with a lot of suspense and a touch of love and sex. I have never read any of the books in this series before this one but I sure will now. I will be looking for more by this author. I would suggest this book to anyone. I was a wonderful read.
I adore this series so much. Its been a while since ive read Solomon and Renee's book. I loved Solomon since we first met him back in book 1 but we never really got to know Renee until now. But i love her too lol. I also forgot about a certain couple in the epilogue... please, please, please I need more D and K lol
I just love these books. I am so excited for the next one. this one way great. I loved how Renee tried to fight the mating with everything she had not because she didn't want Soloman. but because she wanted him to want her more then anything. deep down she still had human feelings. and he needed to reach those. great book!
I can't wait for the next book! I am so sad I finished as quickly as I did. I am completely in love with this series. Ms. Simpson had me hooked from book one and I will continue being a fan of this series forever. The writing is exceptional and the storytelling enthralling.
This is a great book with a lot of suspense and wonderful love and sex. I have enjoyed each of the books in this series and will be yours for the next one. Also will be looking for more by this author.
A brilliant third book, the genius is not letting up. I got this read in under a day, I just couldn't let it go before I knew everything was going to work out OK.
The forth book is now required urgently, so please Stacie write really quickly.
Wow! Another great read. This book, actually this series keeps you on the edge ofyour seat. I can't wait to read who finds their mate next and what tries to come between them. I love all the magic and romance.
This story was fun but more predictable than the prior two. BUT I love the potential future story lines set up in this story. I look forward to Doyle, Katherine, and Sergio's stories.
I’m loving this series, and with each relationship that forms more danger lurks around the corner of Myths & Legends ready to attack. This read was no exception, but it does centre around Solomon and Renee. Although they’ve never been together while Renee worked as Solomon’s assistant he always knew that he loved her but was reluctant to move forward until his Fox woke up and realised the truth, but will he be able to prove his love or will Renee just see his past? Again another amazing read, writing, plot and characters are great. New friendships and bonds form in this book as well as old alliances. We get to see more of the supernatural world in this book, exploring different places and species. Lots of romance, hot sex, and love, but also lots of blood and gore. Some high angst moments and some twists and turns. Highly recommend to supernatural lovers.
Solomon Reynard is the man behind the magic at the Myths and Legends Casino Resort and a womenizer with a long list of sexual escapades. When Solomon realise that Renee Jacobs, his assistant and probably the only woman who refuses to give in into his charm, is his mate he is willing to do everything to show her how much she means to him.
If you like a good fantasy the Myths and Legends series are exactly what you are looking for. You will get a well written stroy, adorable characters, many paranormal creatures and a good love story.
Oh Solomon you sexual beast you, definitely no issues with stamina for this sexy Curt Cobaine lookalike with a swimmers body. He may have been old in years but his behavior was more like a young adults, dressing like a rocker with black cargo pants with chains hanging from it and t-shirts. He was a total exhibitionist preferring to have sex in public wherever whenever and a womanizer too having sex with as many women as he could every night and every day. But deep down inside he was hopelessly in love with his assistant Renee whom he constantly asked out and was turned down every time. On the day the curse was broken his fox was awakened once again informing him that it sensed it's mate and that they should go get her. He doesn't realize who she is at first because he only sees glimpses of her in his dreams and spends months trying to discover who she is. Renee is madly in love with Solomon has been since the very beginning but love and sex go hand in hand with her. After watching his behavior towards women his 'love'em and leave'em' philosophy has proven to her that he is incapable of a monogamous or meaningful relationship. She currently works at Supernova where the annual shifter tournament is held, she knows it will only be a matter of time before Solomon catches up to her and forces them to bond just because he is being compelled to do so. Even though she feels it would be a terrible mistake on his part as being mated for life would be like a prison sentence for him as he's always treated her like a friend and not shown any hint of attraction towards her. The story was very entertaining with all the games going on and we get to see all our favorite characters and new ones compete in the different events at the same time that Solomon and Renee's relationship plays out. I have to admit though I found at times that the games dragged on a bit and would speed read through them just to get more of the couple at hand as I just couldn't get enough and wanted more of them. Their passion may have exploded initially but it then turned into a slow simmer that took a while to burn but once it did it SCORCHED!!! The intimate scenes between them were INTENSE leaving you panting and needing a cold shower damn were they HOT! On a different note, I felt that Dimitri Renee's friend was played out as a villain and I just couldn't understand why. He did exactly as she asked trying to protect her and didn't really do anything to either of them just seemed to dislike Solomon after being told by her that she didn't want to mate him. At the match between him and Solomon it's he who antagonizes Dimitri making him lash out but overall doesn't try to come between him and Renee leaving them alone the entire time. Their seemed to be a connection between Dimitri and the Sorcerer Sergio but we don't know what it is as it isn't explained which annoyed me and his only crime seemed to be loving Renee. She was a very likable character, honest and direct, brave, caring, kind and loving, the fact that she took part in the hand to hand combat challenge shows you what a strong and ballsy woman she really is. I just wished she'd made Solomon work for it a bit more even with the mating frenzy causing the problems it was. I think she should have made him suffer a bit and not just immediately agreed to the bases deal which prolonged it too much for my sanity lol. We are also introduced to new couples and given clues about others like Scarlet/Noah, Liliana/Lucien, Rachel/Jasper/Grayson, Kira/Doyle and Katerina/Danarius. All I can say is OMG I can't wait for those books to be released especially the one on Katerina that's the one I'd like to sink my teeth into lol. Overall this is an enjoyable book full of love, angst, hurt and misunderstandings, action, drama and magic aplenty.
OmyOmyOmy. What an awesome story - a very little out of the ordinary with the whole shapeshifter and vampire world mixed together but this third book does hold what the previous books already promised. Absolutely worth reading.
