Foundations of the World is the latest book in the Awakened series by Jason Tesar. I have been waiting for this book since I read book five a few months ago. At this point in the series there are plenty of fully developed characters and I highly recommend reading the synopsis of book five. I didn’t and even though it has only been a few months since reading book five, it took me a few chapters to remember all of the characters.
As with all of the previous book, Foundations is packed full of action. I was hoping for a bigger battle between Armaros and Kael. There was some confusion for me as to what body Armaros was inhabiting at the time. Both are minor issues and didn’t detract from the overall experience.
I was very thrilled to see that this shouldn’t be the last book of the series as I had feared. Jason has done such a good job in previous books in developing the characters to the point that you want to know more about them, and want to see them succeed. He has taken it a step farther in Foundations. He goes into the family life of the surviving members of NULL. The last third of the book was developing that side of the characters and setting up the next book.
Another plot line that we finally got to witness is the reuniting of Kael’s parents. Adair and Mayern are back together, something that I have been waiting for since book one. Adair is also introduced to his daughter.
There was more development of Saba as well. He finally became a character that I liked. He seemed week and over passive in previous books, which for me was difficult to take, since he is one of the Myndarym.
I really love this book and as in the past I can’t wait for the next work from Jason Tesar.
