CW: on page SA, self harm for magical purposes, violence, gore, murder
Yu-Jin, who has been being abused by his stepfather and his son for the last five years, secrets away some money to purchase a demon summoning kit in the hopes that he will be able to exact his revenge and be free of them once and for all. Only Yu-Jin doesn’t expect the instant connection he has with the demon he summoned.
Once free and able to attend the prestigious Lockwood Academy, Yu-Jin is excited for his second chance at life with Lucian at his side. Of course it’s not that easy for our darling boy and his demon. With his new powers unleashed, everyone wants a piece of Yu-Jin, but luckily he has his mate with him to save him from their nefarious plans.
As Yu-Jin comes into his powers and his relationship with Lucian strengthens, a little murder has Lucian ready to lock shit down and live happily ever after with his little witch. Of course nothing is easy for these two, and a blast from Lucian’s past is ready to tear them apart.
Don’t worry friends, Yu-Jin and Lucian live happily ever after, but lord have mercy do these two go through it to get there!
I’ll be honest, I’m not usually a fan of insta-love, but I didn’t hate it here. My Demon Charming was fast paced, chock full of action, drama, and interesting magic, with lots of monstrous sexy times to boot, so I didn’t care too much about the insta-love aspect.
I did love My Devil Wish and seeing Jace grow into himself and get his happy ever after too!
I said it on the individual books but it bears repeating: for a book series with a premise of summoning a demon to take revenge on abusers, it is very sweet. It has a wonderful sweet and sour balance between the violence and gore and the sweet romantic moments that make me really like it. And I'm glad we got the short about Jace in the end, it ties up all the ends of the story and make it feel very nicely concluded. I really enjoyed all of the stories, even more than I expected to
This is an enjoyable combined set of the My Demon Charming Trilogy, plus an additional novella about Yu-Jin's friend Jace. CW for sexual assault/abuse/forced sex, violence and murder. Don't be fooled by the lovely covers, there are some dark themes here.
My Demon Charming I quite enjoyed this darker endeavor from Rhys Lawless. Pay attention to the TW/CW, as this one has sexual assault/forced sex acts, stolen magic, and some violence/murder (although that was totally merited). There is a bit of dark humor as regards humans buying demon summoning kits and there not being sufficient disclosure, but mostly it's a pretty serious story about a young man (maybe witch) sexually abused by his stepfather and stepbrother. He summons a demon to free him, not really realizing this will tie the demon to him. Stepfather gets the upper hand, but justice eventually prevails when a witch finds his power. It's a unique story, with some elements of a dark Cinderella retelling with gender roles reversed (males in the fairytale female roles).
My Demon Teacher This second book in the series begins right where the first ended, so you really need to read that book (My Demon Charming) first. Otherwise you'll miss the history and set-up to this story. Yu-Jin escaped his horrible family and is now attending Lockwood Academy, and who shows up as his teacher...none other then the demon he conjured and loves who has sworn to protect him. Cue the swooning over the sexy demon. Who wouldn't fall in love with a man (demon) whose tail can do THAT? It's not all happily ever after for Yu-Jin, though. There are still people who want his power. College isn't for the weak or unsuspecting. Will Lucian be able to protect him?
My Demon Husband It's finally happening...all Yu-Jin's dreams coming true. Magic obtained and perfected...check; enrolled in Lockwood Academy for young witches and Nightcrawlers...check; wicked stepfamily and other power-stealers vanquished...check; falling in reciprocated lover with a sexy demon...check. Marry said demon and live HEA...not so fast. Yu-Jin's fairytale comes to a screeching halt when Lucien's wife (?) shows up. But Yu-Jin isn't a pushover anymore and he's not about to let a demoness derail his and Lucien's nuptials. Enjoyable, short read.
My Devil Wish I loved this short novella about Yu-Jin's friend Jace, his struggle to master necromancy, and his deal with a Wish (?) Demon. Lesson: Make sure you say those invocation words just right...or else. Fun story with less darkness and angst than the Demon Charming Trilogy. Sexy, hot fun, with no murder, though I did want to know more about the curse, and why it was cast.
This is an enjoyable set. It might have been five stars, if there were fewer typos and other editing errors, but there were enough errors to distract from my reading.
I received a free copy, and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.
“My darling boy, we may have just met, but our souls? They’ve known each other for millennia.”
This is the complete collection from how they met to how they got their happily ever after Lots of hades level smexy with these two - Tentacles and Tails!!!!! Triggers galore This was a quick read. Not a lot of depth IMO as it moves pretty quickly but it was still pretty entertaining
How Yu-Jin and Lucian meet is the cutest "whoops did I do it right" fated mates encounter. Poor Yu-Jin was a literal slave to his step-family. Pretty disgusting people all around. Thank goodness Lucian came to save the day. We can't forget his fury side kick :)
We move into book two where our quite innocent Yu-Jin begins his term at the academy. Lucian has a surprise for the love of his life as well as a way to keep constant vigilance of his sweetie. And thank goodness Lucian doesn't like to be separated from his heart. I swear that little innocent morsel gets himself into more predicaments. Yu-Jin learns the hard way that his powers are coveted and that he constantly needs to be on alert Our little sweetie gains a little more protection from the monstrous variety
As things progress between our couple they decide to take the next step in their relationship. Only things get a bit complicated as Lucian's past comes knocking and death seems to be the theme of the day
Overall this was a fun read. Again not a whole lot of depth but they were still fun to hang out with. Lots of "Oh chit" moments. A couple of little surprises here and there. Mounds of high heat smexy times and some pretty sweet insight moments
My Demon Charming is a collection of stories based around witch Yu-Jin and the demon he summons to help him escape his abusive family. This story is giving Cinderella Story meets Demon insta-love with a side of murder.
This collection includes Demon Charming, Demon Teacher, Demon Husband, and Devil Wish. Devil Wish is the only story that does not contain Yu-Jin and Lucian as the main characters.
We meet Yu-Jin and immediately are able to see what a depressing life he is living. He is being sexually assaulted by his dead mother’s husband and son. He purchases a demon summoning kit which brings him Lucian who quickly becomes his shield and savior. The second story lets us see Yu-Jin acclimating to his new life at the Lockwood Academy for witches with a new teacher, Lucian. And finally, we see Lucian and Yu-Jin dealing with Lucian’s ex-wife in their final story. The fourth story lets us see Jace, Yu-Jin’s friend, use a summoning demon kit to find his own happily ever after. I would have loved to have had more of them since we got so much of our main couple. This collection was very fun to read because we got to experience little episodes for our main couple. None of the stories felt rushed to me and all of them felt like the meshed well together. While the story was fun it did feel a little juvenile in the writing, however this did not stop me from enjoying the world the author was building.
A fast paced book with intriguing MC'S who's love story is unique, filled with plenty of bad people as well as other beings that want Yu-jin's power for themselves, or want his demon Lucian. This story has battles and violence that is nicely tempered by the insta-love/lust that turns into the sweetest romance between our MC'S, and sprinkled with plenty of sexy times that sometimes involve some unique monster kinkiness. I loved how Yu-jin evolved into a powerful witch and gained much needed confidence in himself, and seeing the love grow into a deep, everlasting bond between him and Lucian. Their journey to HEA is filled with one predicament after another, it is hard earned, but much deserved. The final section in this book focuses on Yu-jin's best and only friend Jace, the only one who was there through everything from the beginning and tried to help however he could. Now it's Jace's turn for things to work out for him, and for him to get his HEA. Overall, this trilogy is highly entertaining and worth reading if this style is to your taste. Be aware of possible triggers in this book such as SA, cutting to gain powers, and violence.
I received an ARC from GRR, this is my unbiased, honest opinion.
I’m not really sure what to think of this series overall. It was very fast paced, and I do realize that they were novellas. However, as I was reading I wanted more. I wanted more in depth character development, more story, more background information, and just more in general. Now do not get me wrong I liked the characters for what they were.
This Story follows Yu-Jin. He has been abused by his ‘so called family’ for years. Yu-Jin finally found a way to escape his ‘family’s’ hold by summoning a demon. Enter Lucian. This triggers events that will lead Yu-Jin on adventures to happiness and a better life. In the last, story in the collection we take a better look at Jace.
There are trigger warnings in the beginning of the book. I highly recommend you read those before reading this collection. Overall, I’m giving it 3 stars because I wanted more from the story and the author’s characters.
Please heed the trigger warnings because Yu-jin's life is pretty horrific from the start, and there is a fair amount of blood and guts in his novellas. I loved sweet Yu-jin and the fierce and loving demon he summons. They were so well-suited and Yu-jin deserved to be happy after all he's endured. Their three novellas definitely put them through the wringer to get to their HEA and it was so easy to get caught up in their story and to cheer loudly whenever a baddie got their just deserts. The final novella stars Yu-jin's best friend, Jace, who also deserved happiness. His story was much sweeter and without all the gore, but I enjoyed it just as much, and loved his HEA too.
I hadn’t read any of these stories as they came out, but I’m glad that I found them now they are out in one volume. Rhys Lawless does a great job making this well known idea of summoning a supernatural creature interesting and engaging. Yu-jin summons Lucien to get him out of a very bad situation in the beginning and you really need to look at trigger warnings for this book if you have any. They are short stories and I am again glad that I’m reading them when they are all written and in one volume. I enjoyed both of these characters and their journey was fun to read, but then I like a bit of twist in my reading. The last book which shows what happens to Yu-jin’s friend Jace is also included in this book.
Yu-jin hasn’t had a good life since his mother married his step father who then killed her for her magic. Since then he’s been abused as they slowly drain his magic but now he’s had enough and he’s taking his life back. He saved to buy a demon summoning kit and summons a protection demon and when Lucian appears Yu-jin tells him he wants him to kill his step father and step brother. They don’t seem to get a break they attract all the crazies trying to steal Yu-jins magic or take Lucian from him. Jace his bff has stood by him through it all and in the final book we get Jace and Alphas story.
Book one review: I absofreakinglutely loved it. Even the cringey parts. Not quite sure what that says about me… 🤔
Book two review: I loved it. Of course I did.
I may have been yelling at the characters in my head for some of the stuff that goes on… but that just means it’s a good story, right?
Book three review: So… that happened… I loved it even though I was still yelling at the characters in my head while also rolling my eyes because, seriously? 😒 saw that coming a mile away… although, I’d probably be that unsmart too.
Highly recommend, definitely must read in order.
“Book four” spin-off review: I liked this one too. I was very intrigued by Jace in the other books. I’m glad he got his own story. It felt slightly rushed but at the same time perfectly straight to the point because I’m not sure what else could have been added.
Definitely best read after the other books.
I received a free copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a great group of dark novellas about the same couple. An abused witch and a demon he summons to help him. Yu-Jin is being abused by his step-father & step-brother. He is desperate and summons a demon to rescue him and in steps Lucian. If you don’t like a bit of violence and non-consent (by Yu-Jin’s awful family) then these books may be too dark for you. I enjoyed all the books and the bond that forms between our two MC’s. Each novella shows a growth in their relationship and the challenges they have to overcome to be together. I highly recommend this book. Enjoy!
Overall, this was a really good collection. I enjoyed the connection and chemistry between Yu-jin and Lucian. These two are drawn to each other and thankfully neither fight their feelings. I love that Lucian was there to protect Yu-jin and showed him what love was. I enjoyed this collection and I will be re-reading it soon.
I received an e-book copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
What a neat set of stories to read at this time of year. There is an interesting mix of things going on that makes this collection both tough in some places to read - one of the characters suffers abuse - and sweet in its own way. I was not expecting that. I especially liked the relationship between Yu-jin and Lucian. It was good that Yu-jin got someone who showed him some care. I enjoyed this set as a tasty treat for the season. I received an ARC from GRR and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Firstly, let me say I got this book from gay romance reviews, and this is me leaving my honest reviews. I’ve got to say this is a new author to me and I jumped at the chance of reading this connection about Demons. And I’ve got to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. Each book has its own dark and twisted tale With some gruesome results. But let me tell you these people are beyond evil and get what they deserve. I’m really excited to read more from this author.
This was a really fun read. I have really enjoyed the author's paranormal books. I love that this one takes place in the same world, but has totally new characters. I do love when series have a few overlaps, but it's fun to see another aspect of the same world. I enjoyed seeing Yu-jin and Lucian form their bond. I'm also super happy we got to have Jace and Alpha's story as well. I own the individual stories, but I admit to liking them all being together in one book.
This collection of novellas was perfect for the Spooky season! The romances are pretty insta love given the length, but I also enjoyed the monster aspect. Although there is some violence and gore in the plot, I appreciated that the love connections were still sweet. We get monster intimate times along with some suspense and magic.
This was quite a collection and the perfect time of year to read! You get it all in here…sweetness and violence! Definitely read the triggers before you start this! It was a very interesting and enjoyable read that kept me engaged. The characters were awesome and I loved the storyline! I definitely recommend checking it out! This is my honest opinion of this complimentary copy of this book
This was an absolutely fantastic collection of stories following Yu-Jin and Lucien. I really enjoyed the twist on the classic Cinderella tale. I loved watching Yu-Jin and Lucien together, they were wonderfully well-written characters and their journey kept me glued to my tablet. A highly engaging read.
This book was pretty good, some parts were disturbing so do read the trigger warnings! Lucien was a sweetheart, and Yu-Jin is an undercover badass! Wow crazy bad luck with people messing with them though! It was also cool to get Jace’s HEA.
This is a great series of short stories that make the series, liked the idea of demons as saviours rather than villians and the ruthlessness of humans when facing danger was realistic. The two couples were cute and it was a great shorter read.

These stories were really good. If you’re looking for quick paranormal reads then this is a great choice. The first 3 books follow Yu-Jin who summons a demon from a kit he purchased online. Lucian is the demon who is summoned and knows right away they’re soul mates. These stories are fast paced and steamy. These two MCs have soooo much working against them but they find their HEA in the end. The last story in the book is about Jace and his demon summoning gone wrong.
I enjoy this series. Though it was fast paced, it worked. 🤔
My poor Yu-jin. This boy has been through it. It was literally none stop. One thing after another. Someone needs to take him from this story line and keep him protected.
Wow what a wonderful collection of stories which will get you hooked from the first few pages. You will lose track of time as you carry onto the next book, then the next until you reach the end of the book. A brilliant collection
I hadn’t read any of this series before but it was good to get it all together, this is a dark urban fantasy collection and I really liked Yu-Jin and Lucien as characters, I also liked the novella were Yu-Jin’s friend Jace gets his hea as well. Good series.
A group of stories I enjoyed reading, I really liked the characters, each novella shows a growth in their relationship and the challenges they have to overcome to be together. But there are some triggers so make sure you heed the warnings.
This sure is a rather dark one, but still enjoyable. Sometimes karma just needs a bit of help, right? It has a very satisfying end to all villains for sure. Not sure I really ship the main characters, but I guess they are good together some ways. I still enjoyed their story.
