The Book of Hormones: Ultimate Playbook for Women's Health And Hormonal Balance Through Every Stage of Life by Dr. Shweta Patel, MD, FACOG, explores parameters of health in connection with hormones (not only beholding of women). Engaging my interests in healthful progressions of life as well as of being a more mindful romantic/life partner, I decide to buy then read the text to further broaden and deepen my healthfully progressing understanding of healthfully progressing parameters of life. Here are a few of my ponderings when reading the text: might calcium rich foods and/or coffee block only iron absorption and/or nutritional absorption in general?; Even considering the text flowing tongue-in-cheek at times, I feel as though I'm attempting to solve a crossword puzzle, sometimes necessitating a slang dictionary as well as hashtag encyclopedia at those times; What of the Granulosa Cells in connection with Estrogen aside from the Corpus Luteum?; How much more beneficial will better comprehending differences in types of hormones, even of a same umbrella name as well as of any consideration of a derivation, prove to be?; Telehealth pre-screens and being aware of women's health screening guidelines may prove extremely empowering for seeking a suitable medical professional; Acknowledging research, not expounding for prohibition and/or attempting to condemn anyone that may imbibe, highlighting imbibing alcohol as not beneficial in anyway makes me consider how one may obtain Resveratrol through many non-alcoholic avenues such as red grape juice, peanuts, and/or fresh grapes.

I have been family physician for more than 30 years. In fact, in many ways I could be the “dude bro who could have been your mom’s OB/GYN” who Dr. Patel mentions in her introduction to this thoughtful, well-researched and surprisingly comprehensive overview of the physiology, pathophysiology, and lifestyle choices impacting a woman’s health during key periods in her life from her first period until well after her last.
I commend Dr. Patel for the time and intellectual energy she put into developing this guide, or playbook as she calls it. Her plainspoken, matter-of-fact style of writing makes even the most complex female endocrine cycles more easily understandable; and more importantly, in most cases, she provides multiple options to empower women to take better care of themselves, naturally or medicinally. And she gives the background knowledge for women to have more meaningful and productive conversations with their healthcare provider.
From a literary perspective, I found her generational colloquialisms and abundant dad jokes a little distracting at times. However, in Dr. Patel’s defense, this playbook wasn’t written for readers like me - a male physician old enough to be her grandfather. Accordingly, I think her style of writing will play very well with women who are young enough to read it and incorporate some number of its many practical tips into their daily lives.
It’s hard to read a book now a days in fact after the twilight series with Ed Pattinson I didn’t think I would find a book I can’t put down . But HERE IT IS the book is amazing easy to read for such complex issues. I can’t put it down. I respect the writer to have created something so good for us humans without any side effects or demands. It’s hard to find a functional common sense book . It has everything I need to understand and nothing I don’t need. And it’s so funny and easy to read. Thank you and look forward to others to come.
This is an amazing read for any women out there trying to better understand hormones and their impacts on our bodies during various stages of life or circumstances. This book had a very holistic approach to treatments which I appreciated. It was very easy to understand, informative, and enjoyable to read.
