When Sienna Raynes found herself out of work, out of a marriage, and out on the streets she did what any intelligent, resourceful woman would do. She ran home to her mommy. And back to her hometown of Cripple Creek, Colorado where she could lick her wounds (and snarf gallons of Chunky Monkey ice cream) in the relative security of the small mountain village. Now, with a new job at The Golden Shaft Saloon and Casino and back in the comforting fold of family and old friends, she thinks that all of her bad days are behind her. That is until the body of an obnoxious co-worker is found at the bottom of a deserted mine shaft. Suddenly, a “bad day” is the least of Sienna’s worries as she is plunged, head first, into the middle of a crime spree that spans the centuries; from the bordellos and raucous gold mining camps of the town’s bawdy past, to a game of deadly investment fraud in the modern day casinos that now line the streets of Cripple Creek. Sienna must beat the odds and find the truth behind a hundred year old grisly mass murder before a modern day villain sees to it that Sienna cashes in her own chips for good.
Laura lives in Colorado Springs, CO with her extremely understanding husband, 3 demanding corgis, and a Siamese named Reckless whose sole job is to lay on the keyboard while Laura is trying to write. So if my next book is late, you can send your letters of outrage to him.
Double Down Dead is a fun, quick mystery told through the eyes of the quirky main character; Sienna. Her unique voice add wit and humor to a plot which smoothly combines a modern day murder mystery with a historical one. Clever twists and turns work to reveal the connections between the two mysteries, and it's discovered that some characters know more than they're saying, and things are not always as they seem. A good mix of Old West history, romance and murder! I highly recommend this book, and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
I LOVED this book. I live in Cripple Creek and learned so much from the story. It made me laugh. I was so into the book I didn't realize the time. It was 2 am and had to get some sleep. Please publish another book soon. I can't wait to read another one. Love Sienna and her situations. Thank you for a GREAT book of entertainment. I will tell everyone how great this book is.
I really enjoyed this fast paced mystery. Especially the tie-in with an older mining town mystery. A great blend of mountains, casinos, bordellos, local history museums, cats and dogs, infidelities, murder, mayhem and handsome rangers and police detectives.
