Cocky beach volleyball champ meets no-nonsense kindergarten teacher? Someone’s about to get schooled.

Charming your way outta trouble is cute when you’re a little boy doing it. But when you’re a grown man?

Nope.

Which is how I know Sebastian Mazur is nothing but trouble. Swoon-worthy trouble I should avoid at all costs.

So it’s bad that I have to see him twice daily when he drops off and picks up his four-year-old niece from my classroom.

It’s even worse when he saves me from the violent advances of my stalker neighbor, then agrees to move in with me while I regain my sense of security.

Dios mio. I’m so screwed. Especially when things get steamy between us just as he gets his shot at a volleyball comeback.

Which love will he pick — competition or me?

And which do I want him to choose?

If you find cussing offensive and skip past sex scenes, Break ain’t the book for you. But if you love reading about an average girl meeting a broken guy who turns out to be fifty percent golden retriever hero/fifty percent Rottweiler hero and one hundred percent about her happiness, then this heartwarming, slow-burn, sports romance is calling your name.
Break is a spinoff of The Fatkini Chronicles with cameos from some of your favorite Fakini characters.

I received an ARC of Break for review, but had already pre-ordered my own copy - and I absolutely loved this story.

Sebastian is the brother of Aithan, and to say there had been tensions in the family is an understatement. Read Thinly Veiled and you'll know what I mean. Seb gets through life with the absolute confidence of a man blessed with looks and physical ability, the whole golden god sort of deal. Unfortunately that has mean his personality and maturity are lacking, which is where Nina comes in.

Seb is drawn to Nina immediately when he offers to do a school pickup. He does his usual schtick that has always gotten him the ladies in the past, but this time it doesn't work. What it does do however, is set of a chain of events that makes him have to deal with the consequences of his actions. In short order he finds himself humbled in a huge way and having to earn forgiveness and respect. There's mutual attraction between Seb and Nina, but the way she cuts him down was *chef kiss*

"How do you keep your bloated head off the ground? The sheer weight of it defies logic."

Seb goes from being at the top of his game, to accepting the help of his brother. Given their past relationship AND the rocky ground he's on with Aithan's family, it makes for quite the recovery in very sense of the word. I especially enjoyed seeing how he interacted with Zelda and Drew, as it was a chance to see these main characters through someone else's eyes, particularly Drew *ahem*

I loved Nina's character. Independent and nurturing in her career, with a supportive family, but like all of us, has a series of events hit her all at once. There's also the creepy neighbour Wyatt and his apologetic/enabling aunt (and landlady) that slowly escalates. How many of us have had to deal with problematic men and then had to listen to people make all the usual apologies about how he's a great guy because they've never had any issues, therefore there's nothing going on, right? Hmph.

Seb and Nina's story intertwines and develops organically, but not with the usual smooth sailing or melodrama that we're used to seeing. Seb makes progress, has setbacks, has to self-reflect and - GASP - take accountability for his behaviour. This is a guy who matures over the evolution of the story until he becomes the adult/man he wants to be in order to deserve Nina, and that wins ALL the points. None of this feels cheesy or contrived, it feels right.

I found myself really rooting for the characters to sort themselves out and get their HEA, because we all want it, and they deserved it. I think I was about 75% of the way through and had to stop to email the author to ask if there was going to be more, simply because I was enjoying it so much. Break is a standalone in the series, and is a delightful garnish to the other books.

In short, Monica, may I please have some more?

DNF - quit at 25%
I tried to read further -to get more glimpses of Zelda, Drew, & Aithan (the original characters from books 1-5 in this series), but I just couldn’t do it. I hated Sebastian (Aithan‘s brother), the author needed to show him as a more redeemable character earlier in the book and that’s when I quit at the 25% point where he hadn’t changed yet. I couldn’t handle his man-whore personality and selfishness any more.

Big hiccup from the writing= The author has a problem with point of view (POV) changes. It was very annoying. The author needs to either make the whole book 1st POV or the whole book 3rd POV (I hope not 3rd, as I don’t like 3rd person and would probably quit a 3rd person book quickly). Makes for very confusing chapters mixed into the rest of the book. I don’t think I would read any other series by this author due to just that POV changes. She definitely wrote compelling characters though -in the first 5 books of this series.

At my age (63), life is way to short & my time is to important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.

I read Drew/Aithan, and Zelda’s story and rated it 3 stars. It was okay but I didn’t really love it. This one however, was so good!

It was a little slow at times which is the only reason i’m not giving it a 5. The plot, characters, dynamics, and banter were amazinggg. It follows Aithans brother (Sebastian) and Nina, the teacher of Zelda’a daughter. Sebastian likes to think of himself as a little playboy but this man was so infatuated with Nina as soon as he got a single look at her LMAO.

Aithan has a troubled relationship with his brother and because of something he did in the past he Drew hates his guts. His redemption arc was so sweet and I loved how caring he was. He payed attention to everything and was always so protective over the kid and Nina. I can’t wait for the next book in this series!

this was a very slow burn and long read, so i felt like the story stretched in parts.

the storyline is cute and i loved the cast of characters; they were such an endearing found family.

i didn't engage with the MCs as much and didn't really feel the chemistry. i also thought there was a lot of investment in some random details that didn't contribute to the story as much, so I found myself flipping at points. and this made the story meander.

overall, it wasn't my cup of tea but i think it could be interesting for someone who is likes the slow burn stories that covers a lot of different ground.

I almost DNF this book at the beginning. Seb's character drove me crazy. Then he grew on me, accepting his fault in things and trying to fix them. Slow growth, no quick 180's that don't feel real.

The hardest issue for me was trying to understand the Polish and Spanish sentences, which I know nothing about, fried my brain. Guessing what they meant, if it wasn't explained.

I enjoyed the chapter headings and the illustrations letting you know which character was "talking".

Glad I pushed through and continued reading.

Wow! I knew this would be a redemption story for Sebastian (side character from the previous Fatkini books), but I did not expect to love it this much. This is a brilliant spin-off, particularly as we get to see lots of our favourite Fatkini characters four years into the future. However, it is also amazing in every other way. The two MCs are realistic, flawed, lovable, relatable and so darn cute together. I loved this story so much. I can't wait to see what this author delivers next.

Thank you Monica for allowing me to read yet another fantastic story!

I adored getting to see Seb's redemption arc after wanting to fight him in the main series! Also getting to see baby Ripley as a big girl 😍 so stinking cute. Overall this was such a good story to show growth for Sebastian, which he clearly needed.

DNF at 8%

I was really liking the story so far until I got to the MMC pov. The FMC pov is 1st person while the MMC pov is 3rd person. Going back and forth was confusing and I felt like it was taking away my understanding from the story. If it was either all 1st person or all 3rd person, I believe it would have been easier for me to read.

Action packed , parts...

I want to know what happened to ginger , Shannon and theresa. A blurb or something. I was surprised Wayne survived but, clear la vie! I didn't write this book.
There were some very funny sections throughout the book and series.
I would have liked for Zelda to have her baby before the book ended.
I have enjoyed every book in the series. Zzz

Dnf @ 15%. Our leads haven’t even met yet, and at this point I don’t care. It’s probably my fault I haven’t read any other books that this is a spin-off from. I’m so confused. Definitely not to be read as a stand alone.

There were some portions of the story that I would have liked to know more about (like what was Theresa thinking?!?), but still loved this!
