Alessa Kelly writes romantic suspense and contemporary romance novels where danger tangles with desire.
When she’s not writing, she’s exploring wild places, snapping photos, or dreaming up her next story. Her books are packed with bold heroines, broody protectors, and a passion that doesn’t know when to quit.
She enjoys the simple things in life, like taking long walks, daydreaming, and bingeing on Nordic noir with cheesy popcorn in hand. She is also a lover of wildlife photography, and will die without a cup of strong, black tea.
ARC review. Her Redeemed Protector is the fifth book in Alessa Kelly’s Red Mark Rescue and Protection series. It is my favorite so far. Huxley and Savannah are both struggling inside and their storyline is a bit unusual. Their chemistry is undeniable from the beginning and I was all in as their story was a page turner. Definitely a 5 star read.
This is an interesting storyline with the resolution of multiple pieces of relationship baggage. Both characters had likeable traits, though at times their dynamic was a bit too “sweet” as they worked toward their HEA. Overall a good read especially if you enjoy minimal character conflict and the mushy side of finding your person.
I'm always torn with Alessa Kelly's books. On the one hand, she's a gifted wordsmith, someone who clearly loves creating rich visuals with her prose. But the stories within are a bit lacking for me, and I'm not entirely sure why.
Our heroine here, Savannah, is the type of heroine I love, smart and capable and perfectly able to do as much rescuing as the hero. And Huxley is lovely too. Kind and sexy and protective. But maybe there's too much perfection here? They meet, and it's practically instalove, even falling into bed quickly... which wouldn't have bothered me if it hadn't been under the same roof as Sav's dad and/or if screaming in ecstasy hadn't been involved. Anyway, there's so much understanding and tenderness and affection, and, while yes, there was a rough patch, such perfection is a little cold and, dare I say, boring at times.
The suspense is a bit all over the place. Some stems from Sav's past, and there's a little from Hux's, but the danger is mostly clustered in one melodramatic scene; I'll stop there to avoid spoilers. That said, the bit about Sav's last day at her former ranch is underexplained. Montana might still carry the feeling of the Wild West, but shootouts at the OK Corral just don't happen without impunity, even if one side is clearly in the wrong. It kind of felt like maybe part of that story happened in another book and was just being summed up here, but I'm not sure that's the case.
They were other things that got to me, but that's the gist. In a lot of ways, the story was more of a 2-star one for me just because the charm got lost in all the words (so many words), but I do have to acknowledge the author's obvious love of language by giving this book that extra star.
I received an ARC of this book for free from the author. I'm writing this review voluntarily, and it reflects my honest opinion. Thanks!
This book is an incredible addition to Alessa Kelly's Red Mark series. The characters, Huxley and Savannah, each have intense backstories that give this storyline many twists and turns. Hux's accidental meeting with Red Mark owners leads him to join their company which specializes in rescuing children. This new job brings him in contact with Savannah who is in the process of saving a child with the help of her horse. Huxley is drawn to Savannah because she reminds him of a woman from his past. Savannah is drawn to Hux since he is nothing like her old friend who betrayed her and caused the loss of her beloved family ranch. Will secrets that Huxley won't share drive a wedge between? Who is really behind all the trouble that is surrounding Savannah? I loved this ARC copy and freely gave a high recommendation of this book as well as the rest of this series. I advise readers to grab this book and get ready to enjoy it from start to finish! '
Huxley Luca Cometti, former Navy SEAL and currently part of Red Mark Rescue, has suffered great losses. Especially that of the death of his late girlfriend. Leaving him not wanting to ever love and lose again. Whom he never expected to shake him up, is Savannah Mitchell. Savannah loved her life as a rancher, but life forced her to lose the family ranch and is trying to adjust to city life. Helping rescue a little girl puts her in contact with Huxley. As much as she is drawn to him, his past gets in the way. Add that her ex, and life seems to be working against her. Will these two realize they are meant to be together? Will Huxley let go of the past and take a chance in loving once again? This was a good addition to the series. The plot was engaging and the main characters likable. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
A wonderful suspenseful romance! One of my favorite aspects of Kelly’s stories is that her female characters are strong and they protect others as much as they are protected. Sav is no different. Her efforts to rescue a kid puts her in Huxley’s orbit. Their connection is immediate but his past gets in the way even as sinister actions of others contribute stumbling blocks and intrigue to work through. Both Sav and Hux have to come to terms with past losses in order to find a future together. Well written and beautifully descriptive, this one provides an engaging journey toward a happy ending.
A sign of a good film or book from me is if it engages your emotions, and this one for me certainly did that. There was the pull of the will they won’t they make it as a couple, combined with the wanting to do some damage to Savannah’s ex, and feeling sorry for the little girl caught in the crosshairs of it all. I also found it to easy to guess from the start who the real villain was going to be revealed to be too.
I received a review reader’s copy of the book, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
The fifth book in the Red Mark Rescue & Protect romantic suspense series. My first, not only of the series but of Ms. Kelly; definitely not my last!
This story was action-packed. Steamy. With wonderful characters, and scenery! Plenty of angst and quite the rollercoaster ride! I loved every dip and turn!
The question is, will Ms. Kelly give Savannah and Huxley a happily ever after? I kept riding my horse to the end to see!!!
This is the first book I have read from this author and it certainly won't be the last. This was an action packed story that had me turning the pages well into the night. Wonderful and likeable characters and excellent description certainly added to my enjoyment of this book. I recommend it as a read and will now be reading the previous books from the series.
