Gailsone #1.5

The Impossible Door

Rate this book
Alice Gailsone is Dyspell, master of the dark art of entropy and one of the most feared villains on the planet. She serves as second in command to the criminal empire, the Purge, and is considered to be extremely dangerous. There are few who can stand toe-to-toe with her, and fewer still that can order her around. One of those few is Prometheus, the leader of the Purge. He has given Alice a simple but dangerous assignment- locate a magical artifact known as the Impossible Door, and secure it’s limitless potential for the glory of the Purge.

Unfortunately, when Alice receives a summons from the Spiritual Magistrate of the United States, she is given a slightly different set of orders that puts her in a precarious position. Realizing that this is quickly becoming a mission that even she can’t complete alone, she seeks help from the one person she knows can handle what’s ahead.

Dr. Susan Gordon is a highly-regarded surgeon, a pillar of the community, and secretly a nigh-indestructible powerhouse known to the world as Miss Major. As a champion of good (and one of the strongest beings on the planet), she is Alice’s ideal choice for a partner. Now, if only they can get past the whole, hero/villain thing…

When their plan goes up in smoke, Alice and Miss Major find that they might have bitten off more than even they can chew. Wayward killer androids and psychotic, horny wizards are bad enough, but when the real guardian of the Door is revealed, the girls find themselves up against a fire-breathing menace that even they might not be able to stop.

GAILSONE is an ongoing series about the dysfunctional, kind-of-evil and somewhat super-powered Gailsone family, their friends, and their adventures. The world of GAILSONE is one like ours, but with heroes and villains, powers and magic. Join Alice, her dysfunctional niece Allison, and the amazing cast of heroes and villains that make up the ever-expanding Gailsone universe!
For more action-packed adventure with the Gailsone cast, check out their first full-length novel, Gailsone: Big In Japan! Also, for more stand-alone adventures, try Black Days, starting with Gailsone: Blood & Rust for a high-octane, stand-alone thrill ride!

GALISONE: BLACK DAYS is the title for the ongoing series of stand-alone prequel stories that take place before Gailsone: Big In Japan, the first official GAILSONE novel. This is the fifth entry in that series, taking place after Gailsone: Blood & Rust, Gailsone: A Night at the Opera, Gailsone: Date Night and Gailsone: Blackbird’s Song.

Gailsone: The Impossible Door is a stand-alone prequel to the hit novel, Gailsone: Big In Japan.

This is another fun romp in the Gailsone universe. The narrative jumps around a bit but builds into a fun action sequence that is the envy of almost any superhero action movie this side of The Avengers. Seriously, get out the popcorn and soda for it. I'd say get some 3D glasses for the full effect, but printed-word books haven't "advanced" into that realm just yet. It also brings in another new character, presumably building towards the second novel.

This venture into the universe was a pleasant surprise. The writing earlier on in this series is certainly weaker and this later foray has characters and plot that are more complex and less predictable. Glanders plays amusingly with some typical writing conventions, which was refreshing. The banter and dynamic between the two main characters was enjoyable. I always love it with so-called villains and heroes team up. I'm glad I gave this series a second chance. Good beach or airplane read.

Another solid entry and genuinely warm and lighthearted.

I had a lot of fun reading this and thoroughly enjoyed the antics involved. might have jumped around a little too much but was easy to follow and stayed well connected.

I love when heroes and villains put aside their differences and work together for one unlikely adventure. If dragons are involved it's even better.
