When trouble comes knocking, only the strong survive!
Flush with his winnings in both money and power, Akio and his comrades find dire events waiting for them at home.
A rival has taken advantage of their absence to launch a series of brutal attacks, and his domain is crumbling.
Akio must also face the consequences of his hasty actions, his sudden engagement not least among them, and Shaeula’s bitter past rears its head in deadly fashion, only adding to the chaos.
As these woes intensify, the battles in the Boundary spill beyond it, and Akio and those he loves are forced to confront the truth that not even our world is safe from danger.
To survive this disastrous fortnight, it will take all of Akio’s wits, strength and connections, but to fail means worse than death.
But victory offers sweeter rewards, and the greater the trouble, the greater the triumphs!
The story seems to be written In In Great Britain style English. But it's japanese or based in japan I should say. Of course it's a harem story. So there are a lot of female characters rotating around the Main male character. Also lots of different chapters you get chapters for different characters. You can skip any of them that you're not interested in it doesn't hurt the story it just adds more to it. Every chapter with graphic sexual storytelling is clearly marked. You can skip them all. It does not hurt the story but you might lose some information. There are a lot of characters. You get lots of different points of view. But it always comes back to the main character and his story. I did skip 3 chapters all of them explicit. Other than that it has been an interesting story with a lot of politics.
This second book is really good, and while not quite as long as the first book, at 1048 pages, is still way too long. It really needs to be broken up into parts to make it easier to digest.
As expected, the MC now has two women in his harem, with multiple others swirling around as potentials. The intimate scenes were decent. The growth in the personalities is minor but present. Lots of Slice of Life moments, some of which are boring and felt unnecessary at times. Lots of side parts from various other PoVs that don't always feel like they add much in the moment.
MC is still making stupid choices, and some of the same ones. MC even said "do I never learn?" So I still severely dislike the MC, but something about the way the author writes, intrigues me. So I gave this one a chance. The story is good, even if I don't like a few of the characters. That in itself could be seen as good writing, to be able to spark such strong emotions regardless of what they are.
If you read book one, you know what to expect: A soft gooey mush of slow burn romance and anime tropes. Did you like the characters and want to see more of them awkwardly flirting and slowly levelling up? If so, you really want to read this book.
If you were annoyed by book one and hoped the author might settle down and focus on something not heavily present in book one (numbers-go-up, combat, sex, whatever), then you're going to be annoyed by this book too, because it's just a lot more of the same.
I won't even try to argue this is a high quality story, but I'm enjoying the hell out of it anyhow.
