A Mother’s Secret by Scarlet Wilson is a medical romance. Dr. Gemma Halliday has moved with her five-year old daughter, Isla, to the Isle of Arran. She plans to make this holiday retreat for many into a permanent home for them. She moved to start anew after finally gaining full custody of Isla. Gemma had been a surrogate mother for her best friend, Lesley; but decided to keep the child to protect it when she got weird vibes from Lesley’s husband Patrick. Labeled the ‘bad surrogate”, she hoped to make a new start without her history affecting her job or her daughter. She intended for her house to be painted and cleaned and ready for the movers, a list of child minders from Dr. Sam Allen, and time to get to know the island with her daughter before school starts. However, Dr. Scott feels differently. Dr. Logan Scott is a bachelor doctor who has no time to date and no intention of marriage at the moment. He has now been left in charge of the practice when Dr. Sam Allen broke his leg. Added to a shortage of doctors at the clinic, he needs Gemma to start immediately. He persuades her to start early and even arranged childcare for Isla, with his own mother. He needs to keep his mind on the practice and his family; but finds his mind going more and more towards Gemma and Isla. Scarlet does a fantastic job creating her characters and setting. You can feel the crisp air from the sea and see the opulent countryside. She puts forth the idea of surrogate mothers, puts incidents of mother’s backing out and lets thereader make a decision on their own.
