Blue Norther is the 4th book in the Ben Blue series. As Ben settles into the life of a rancher, like any developing businessman, he is always striving to improve his business. The best way to improve his business is to improve his product with some good breeding stock. Ben along with Patty’s grandfather, Sam Stellars, go on a cattle buying venture. The venture turns to an adventure as they are set upon by renegades before they can look at a single cow. Ben and Sam are forced to stop in a quiet little Texas town with a dark secret, a secret so dark that even the townspeople don’t suspect. Ben Blue is hell bent on exposing that secret and cleaning out the nest of snakes that thrive on it, or leave it in ashes…. It’s their choice.
Lou Bradshaw is a lifelong story teller, who spent most of his life as a commercial illustrator and graphic artist. Deadlines, clients, and vendors were all sources of sleep depriving stress. To combat insomnia, he would often create stories in his mind to take the place of what was bothering him. Soon, some of those stories had grown to the point that they needed to be put on paper. Taking up a felt tip pen and a loose leaf binder, he found something new, challenging, and exciting. He soon filled multiple binders and his distraction had become a passion. Upon retirement, he began assembling notes and scribbles into novels… the rest is history. One of the unique features of his work is that as a dyslexic child, he was considered either slow or lazy by most of his teachers. To date he has written 7 books, which is 6 more than he was able to read while in school. His only legitimate book report, although 3 months late, was Huckleberry Finn. Lou and his wife Avon live in the Missouri Ozarks, where they enjoy their family, golf, and the great outdoors.
.....bring your patience with you into this western...
This is probably my 3rd or 4th review of one of Lou Bradshaw’s books so I’ll just skip to the difference this one has over the others, at least in my humble opinion. It is still a 5-*. However, bring your speed reading glasses with you. In this book, Ben Blue and others track outlaws a couple of different times. There was just way more descriptive detail of the landscape, narrow canyons of pushed up volcanic rock, loose shale, 1000 foot drops, trail so narrow can’t see around the next bend that it seemed to take 40 pages to move 40 feet. Wore me out! Louis L’Amour could do this when one of his characters was riding across a flat unremarkable desert checking his back trail for vision markers in case he had to return the same way. You were thankful when he finally reached his destination so you could get on with the story. That’s Blue Norther! Having said that, the basic story is excellent, good plot, surprises still there. You meet the same folks as in the other a Blue novels and new ones are introduced as others drop out. Soooooo....am I going to get from my Kindel Unlimited membership the next book in the Blue series which I believe is Cain for free? Already have. Blue is good. Check him out! - ‘ole joe. 😊☦️🙏🇺🇸
I am definitely impressed with the writing exploits of Mr. Lou Bradshaw, since these books always appear connected, but, realistically, they do not feed off each other. This one had a very impressive storyline and the characters were impressive throughout. The author is very adept in his apparent knowledge of the areas covered and I am overwhelmingly impressed with each new episode of Ben Blue.
As I stated on the previous three books; five stars just dies not give true justice to these wonderfully exciting storylines. Too, the selected characters were significantly enhanced to increase the excitement throughout the entire novel.
Mr. Bradshaw is an exceptionally talented author, whose love of his exploits only increases the current reader's ability to understand his full intention.
I, most certainly, recommend this wonderful series to all serious lovers of great western folklore. I am sure you will be as Impressed as I am, especially of you are readers of The Joe Pickett series. That is pretty good company to be in!

Another great Ben Blue book by Lou Bradshaw, I always enjoy reading about the escapades Ben gets into, always exciting to see how he gets out. He always comes out on top. Love the Ben Blue books, l look forward to more books on Ben. Thank you Lou Bradshaw for a great read.
Ben Blue again is a hero on many levels. He captures outlaws, saves his grandfather in law from freezing to death and a wound. He saved the day several times and all the time he is trying to buy some Hereford cattle.
Ben Blue stories are a fun way to get a bit of history in your mind.. the change from long horns to herders is a big change and it was an interesting part of how it happened.
An adventurous story trying to get white faced cattle. Through rough terrain and changing cold weather, and bandits, Ben and Sam are caught in the bad weather as well as bandits.
I enjoyed reading this book about the adventures of Ben Blue. The books in this series have been able to keep me wanting more. I can't wait to read the next one.
This whole series of books are as good as any i have ever read. This author work is as good as Sanford, White, Flynn. Fast moving and very entertaining
This Ben Blue book is just as full of action as the first three. This is my second reading of this series and will not be my last. I love good western storytelling and L.B. is one of the best. My only negative is the loss of Andy.
