It was three A.M., and I couldn't sleep, so I was scrolling Instagram when this book showed up. I went to GoodReads since I thought the reviews would be interesting, and then saw the book was only 130 pages, so I decided to quell my curiosity and read it.

I didn't know really anything about petplay, so I went into this book blind and came out frazzled. I also didn't realize how this book would just be smut. I hated the two scenes that involved weird things with bodily fluids, and all the talk about how gross her husband was made me gag.
I didn't care about the main couple; they could have never seen each other again, and I would not blink an eye.
Having the setting be the states yet using lots of British slang was a choice. Also, the fmc talked about knots in her stomach three separate times, which I don't know if it's a play on words or just the author having a favorite phrase.

All I can say is someone get me some holy water!!! This novella was unlike any other that I have read! And certainly one of the hottest!!!
We have our lovely FMC Ashley, who is a stay at home wife in DESPERATE need of human affection in every way possible, who is severely neglected by her husband. All he does is work, play games, eat (but fusses about Ashley’s cooking) and is so far up his mommas butt you’d think he was still in utero. And don’t get me started about the biotch that’s her mother in law. That woman deserved to have her lights knocked out.
And then we have our MMC Bobby. I’m going to be 100% honest, at first my mind went to Supernatural just by his name but boy was I wrong!!! He gives off these Lumberjack vibes and I’m all here for it. Our MMC has a knack for making leather BD$M trinkets and boy did that pay off. Who would’ve thought that his craft would bring him his perfect pretty little pet.

This is my first book by the author, so I went in blind and OOOH BOY. Was that a choice 😂
I'm not one to kink shame, but from nothing to watersports was so out of left field it gave me whiplash. The book was written okay otherwise. I'd say it falls heavily under erotica, as this was 99% pet play, degradation/humiliation smut with a tiny inkling of plot. The characters in general were just too flat for me to truly enjoy them enough to give it a higher rating. Also, I had a bit of ick over the entire book being her living out his kinks that he forced upon her, and it feeling overly manipulative.
I'll try the authors' other books, though, because most of this had decent spice. This one just didn't really connect for me.

It was more Bobby's kinks now being shared by Ashley, all because he was the creep that paid attention to her).
The only consolation/good thing is that Ashley learns from her situation and doesn't just move in with Bobby, at his cabin, in the end.

I love how insular this story is. There are two main characters, and two secondary characters and no one else, and I loved that in this novella.
If you've read other books by Effie you know how seamless her writing is. The story moves fast, and will make you question some things about yourself.
Controversial take, but I love that Effie doesn't tell us what the MMC looks like, other than his sexy-AF forearms. Honestly, that's all I need to know. Like, maybe a neck tattoo would be good too, but I'll imagine that in on my own.

EVERYTHING I didn't know I was missing! The way that Effie packed so much into such little pages is astonishing. I never read a novella and it felt complete until this one! the way Ashley felt touched a part of me as a woman. The way Bobby seen her, the way he and her were together! I loved the spice! It was the hottest Pet Play scenes I have ever read. New Kink unlocked...as a woman I appreciate a nice set of hands and forearms. Bobby has amazing fore arms. This is not light and fluffy so don't pick this up if you need sunshine and rainbows. This is a dark romance with stalking, pet play, kidnapping but, it does have a HEA. This will definitely go on my reread shelf!!

If I could give this book zero stars then I would. What in the holy fuck was this monstrosity?!? I like some weird shit but this blew even me away. Some of the things this man says and thinks are abominable. For instance: “you’ll leak like an over stuffed eclair” WTF. This man is sexualising a very nice, innocent dessert.

I like to think that I'm kinky (mentally, of course) but this enlightened me on my hard limits. I thought the whole cage and “apple juice” scenes would make me dnf but I mentally checked out and came DANGEROUSLY close to it (and that's kinda major, considering DNF-ing makes me feel guilty, lmao) when he shares her. Like in MY opinion, we would've been fine if the author had ended the book without all of that but oh well.

What a wild read. So many k!nks in one and I loved them all. Pet plãy to the extreme and it was hot. Obviously don’t read this one if you have any aversions to any aspect of pet plãy.
