At first, the itinerary goes exactly as planned, they spend their time exploring beautiful historic sites, indulging in amazing southern cuisine, and soaking in Savannah’s ghostly legends. But things take a surprising twist when a mysterious death occurs during one of their ghost tours. Thanks to the author for the free copy of this book. Leigh is a wife and mother of three and is sad over her upcoming empty nest. She organizes a long overdue getaway for her and her best friends Kay, Alice, and Marie.. The four friends set out for Savannah, Georgia hoping for some relaxation, but never dreamed their trip would change several lives.
This cozy book combines elements of different genres. The theme of friendship and rediscovering your passion after taking care of everyone but yourself reminds me of a Women's Fiction book. There are many details about the places, such as museums, ghost tours, and restaurants that the women visit. There's even an itinerary for anyone able to take their own trip to Savannah, so this makes it seem like Destination Fiction. Finally, there are many elements of a cozy mystery since the four friends find clues linking a current crime with a case from 200 years in the past.
Most of the book is told from Leigh's point-of-view. Even though Leigh planned the trip, she was hesitant to leave her comfort zone to go on the trip and then in the things they took part in once there. None of them dreamed they would be searching for clues in two different cases which could be connected, but they were determined to get justice for those involved. After a lot of soul-searching, Leigh realizes she enjoyed the adventure and is determined to keep challenging herself once she returns home. She and the others start planning their next trip which will be to the Sonoma Wine country. The second book in the series just came out last week and is all about their California adventure.
This would be a fun book to read if you were familiar with Savannah, Georgia or if you were thinking about going there. As a mystery fan, I would have liked more sleuthing as opposed to self-reflection, but it was still a quick, easy read that I would rate 3 3/4 stars.
Ghostly Getaways: Murder in Savannah by Kelly Greer combines a girls' trip with a cozy murder mystery. The book is set in Savannah, Georgia, a place known for its history and hauntings.
The story protagonist is 48-year-old Leigh, a married mom of three college-aged kids. Leigh is ready to pursue her own passions and is excited to begin planning a long-awaited girls trip with three of her friends, Kay, Alice, and Marie.
The four women decide to travel to Savannah, Georgia, where they can experience history, yummy food, and ghost tours.
The friends end up encountering more than the planned adventure. They get caught up in two mysteries: a current murder mystery and a 200-year-old mystery with strange similarities.
Ghostly Getaways: Murder in Savannah takes many of the things cozy readers love and inserts them into a single book. There's lighthearted mystery, long-buried secrets, friendship, an amazing setting, and satisfying character growth. I liked all of these things as well as the ghostly goodness and the many clues peppered through the story.
Author Kelly Greer is a talented writer and plotter. The story is entertaining and twisty and concludes with a delightful ending.
I would recommend Ghostly Getaways: Murder in Savannah to everyone who enjoys cozy mysteries and stories involving road trips and friendship.
Many thanks to Kelly Greer for my complimentary copy of Ghostly Getaways. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Murder in Savannah is a fun new cozy mystery. It is full of information, both touristy and historical. I feel like I have been on vacation to Savannah with Kay, Alice, Marie and Leigh. I had a great time trying to solve the mystery with them.
It was nice reading about friendships between middle-aged women. Our lives are so busy and seeing these women take time out for themselves is a much needed luxury. It was nice to see Leigh’s personal growth. I found bits of myself in her life. It's an uplifting story.
Make sure to read the authors note and itinerary!!
For anyone who likes sentimental books and cozy mysteries will like Ghostly Getaways. The writing style is reminiscent of Sherryl Woods. I'm not really a fan sentimental books thats why I gave this 3 stars but, I thought the concept of mixing the 2 genres was an interesting twist. This book makes me want to visit Savannah. It has a lot of fascinating facts about the city and places you should visit. I loved the characters and wish we to see them interact more with eachother instead of always contemplating everything (that was the only off putting thing about the book) It has a good foundation for a new series. I also found the mystery interesting and wish it wasn't as drawn out by all the contemplating I wanted to get more into the story faster. I would be interested in reading book two to see where it takes the friends next.
"Ghostly Getaways: Murder in Savannah" by Kelly Greer is a fun, unique take on cozy mysteries. Leigh and her group of friends are finally taking their much talked about girls trip. Their destination is Savannah, Georgia take in all the historic sights, shopping and ghost tours. Are there real ghosts? Well, there's a real cold case that a modern day case is eerily like.
The ladies start off just investigating the cold case. However, they quickly discover that the two cases are tied together. Are the culprits as well?
I look forward to seeing where this author takes these characters. That is, if this is indeed the first book to a new series. I hope more are to come.
