Erotic paranormal romance Author’s Edition
Gabrial Ferrar is a House Marshal, an enforcer of the laws of his people. But when his investigation into missing young girls lead him to a dark alley his path crosses with an incredible crossbreed whose blood promises him a lifetime of pleasure he’s willing to sacrifice everything to gain. Yet her past may be the key to stopping a deranged killer from taking the life of another little girl -- but only if he can gain her trust before time runs out.
Kel Sheridan works for a private agency called Incog, a vigilante organization that deals with the dark underbelly of the Arcane. While investigating a local blood ring she finds herself uncontrollably drawn to a stranger and in the time it takes to press her lips to his, he's made her his blood mate. Kel is furious, especially when she discovers he is a son of the House that turned her out on the streets as a child for not being of pure blood. When another little girl disappears she finds herself needing the strength of the unwanted blood bond between them to face the truth of her past to catch their killer.
Gabe is a marshall of the House Ferrar. he has tasked himself with finding who is kidnapping the girls who are being taken and not found. he comes across Kel and his life, and her's will never be the same again!
Kel is a cross-breed, part Sanguen, part Guardian. SHE is investigating a blood ring and comes across Gabe in a dark alley. a tiny amount of shared blood, and its game on!
Kel finds out Gabe is of the house that threw her on the streets at 12, and fights their bond, with every fibre of her being. but when another girl, a friend of Kel's, is taken, she needs Gabe and his bond to find her.
this is a new series, and it looks to be a great addition to the genre, however, the word VAMPIRE is not mentioned in this book. these people are SANGUEN. a variation on a theme, but its best to be clear!
I really enjoyed this book. it had been sitting on my wish list for a while, and came up free, so had to get it. read it in one sitting :-)
the characters are deep, and well rounded, the plot line has you not quite sure who-dunnit til quite near the end. there are a host of secondary characters leading into books two and three (which are already on my wish list) and I look forward to reading them in due course.
lots of sex, and violence, but that's to be expected from a Sanguen fighting for his House's name and his mate.
After a couple of pages I was hooked since I love a good paranormal romance and this book is a true paranormal book with Sanguens (vampires), witches, dragons, guardians, elementals, crossbreeds etc it also has lots of sex, it had so much potential but in the end it never quite reached its early promise, the reason I've only given 3.5 stars well.... firstly the identitity of the killer was obvious early on, which isn't a major point I don't think it was supposed to be a surprise but it would have been nice to have a bit more mystery. The bonding or mating between Gabe and Kel was dragged out too much, she fought against the inevitable for too long, parts I felt were a bit laboured and repetitive and I know she's been through a lot in her life but blindly running into situations of danger were silly if she didn't want to take Gabe take Raife or someone else. On the plus side most the characters were well written and the author has created an intriguing and interesting world and Raife, I really liked Raife, will I read the next book...you know I just might give it a go.
More than Blood is a good start to what I hope will be an even better series The author has taken something that is written about over and over again and put an interesting spin on things, (vampires, were and dragons, though Vyne uses different names).
After an accidental first blood swap (that I'm not so convinced was accidental on Gabrial's part) the mate bond is in full swing. The only problem is Kel doesn't want to mate and they both have reasons for not wanting to mate with each other.
Gabe works his way onto a case that Kel is working (that is related to his friend he was following) and no matter how she tries at a poor attempt at getting away, Gabe is right there.
I did enjoy the story but I found myself more interested in the doctor's (Dr. Mahoney) and Raife's story (two separate stories).
I enjoyed this story and believe there will be more from this author. Interesting plot, intrigue, mystery, vampires, other magical beings including drachons (dragons), guardians. There is evil, a serial killer..who happens to be a vampire. a vampire heir secures a blood bond with a "crossbreed", a woman who is half "sanguen"(vampire) and half guardian...and as such despised by the sanguen.
This book is one of the worst I've read in a long time. It's like a Paranormal 50 shades of Gray. I like a little sex and romance with my books, but geez I also like a story to go along with it. Definitely will not be reading the next one.
This Book makes you love the hate of the love. It takes you on a journey full of passion, lust, and furious raw attraction. The fierce protection for each other that these two characters fight against is inevitable. They do not want to want each other, but somewhere someone knew what they were doing when they put these two in each other's paths. I read a lot romance/erotica, and so much out there is just a new twist on the same story it seems. Not with this book, at least to me. There is a new spin in the world for the story to take place and you get a story with a strong female that is rare to find.
I highly recommend this book if you like strong women and lots of action. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.
This was my first foray into the arcane world. Ms Vyne has given a different view on her vampires. Not your normal story line. Kel & Gabe face many challenges in their lives. This story had several likeable characters and you were drawn into their lives. Would Kel be able to overcome her dislike for gabes clan. Also the excerpt she includrd for her next book in the series had me crying by the first page !!!!!. I will definitely buy the next book in the series.!!!!
I downloaded More Than Blood as a free book from Amazon. I hadn't read anything previously written by this author, but the blurb was interesting and the book was free, so I thought I'd give this one a try. I have to say, I really liked the characters and plot, and I am puzzled by the 2 and 1 star reviews, as I enjoyed the writing style enough to add more of this series to my TBR. Good world-building. perfect pacing, and protagonists you want to root for.
I really liked this romance novel. Kel got on my nerves but the author did a great job balancing out her push & pull emotions. As frustrating as Kel was, I forgot about my annoyance with those steamy scenes and Gabe’s intensity to want to protect/take care of his mate.
This book was a freebie from Amazon and there were parts I loved and parts that left me close to not finishing. I am glad I persisted though, as the pacing and tension built in the last 30% of the book. The paranormal world the author has created is both rich and interesting, and the mystery element of the story, though a little predictable, made for a very satisfying plot-line. The writing style was at times repetitive, with a dearth of dialogue early on that left me struggling to engage with the main characters. That said, Kel, the hard-ass heroine with a damaged past, was very engaging and likeable. Gabe, the hero, on the other hand, had all the verbal subtlety of a Neanderthal for me. This was where I felt the story fell down: in the romance department. The couple has virtually no dialogue exchange apart from him grunting 'mine' and 'resistance is futile' type comments, whilst she fails miserably to protest her physical attraction to him. Gabe's actions were downright disturbing. He bonds with her against her will, handcuffs her and has dubious-consensual sex with her on a car. Later he finds out she has been a victim of rape and abuse, and wants to win her trust. So he proceeds to bite her and sexually assault her whilst she is bleeding from a stab wound and under the influence of sedative drugs! (Again up against a car.) Then he assaults the female doctor trying to help his mate. Then he lets his mate fall to the floor when she's too weak to support herself, just so he can beat on the guy trying to help her. He also talks about her like she's not in the room. I was seriously about to throw down my kindle at that point and was skimming the sex scenes until the real plot kicked back into gear and the story got interesting again. With a little refinement of writing style, I think the Arcane world has great promise. Gabe just wasn't my cup of tea. I'll consider reading the next in series.
Gabriel is the future of his Sanguen House (Vampires) and has taken the position of Marshall to police all that goes on within it but alot of Crossbreed girls have gone missing and he has a strong hunch that someone in his House is at fault.
Kel is a Sanguan/Guardian crossbreed who works for the Arcane company Incog and is on the hunt of a drug deeler who pedals blood which is how her path crosses with Gabriels.
Their instant attraction is combustable and a bond is formed before either know each others names. It's a bond for life but with their backgrounds being so different accepting it is not going to be easy, atleast for one of them.
Gabriel is the perfect leading man as he's honorable, protective and indepedant. Kel finds some of these qualities irritating as she's used to holding her own but I find them comendable in this day and age. Kel has endured alot in her short years which we old read snippets off so it's understandable she has her guard up but it does get tedious when she keeps denying the obvious happening between them.
It was a good story with a fresh twist on the Paranormal and has a good variation on the creatures in it ranging from vampires, dragons, elementals, etc. The only let down was how strung out their bonding was with Kel continually fighting it.
Noticed a few editing errors but definitely want to read the sequel
This book was a Kindle Freebie and I wasn't sure about it when I first started. Something felt a little off in the writing for the first few pages, but thankfully I have trouble putting down a book after I've picked it up because it improved and I was quickly drawn into the story.
The world itself is very interesting. Sanguens (vampires), Dragons and Guardians are the main players in this particular novel. We do see Elementals and Witches are mentioned as major players also. Kel is a Sanguen-Guardian crossbreed who is looked down on by the purists among Sanguen Houses. Gabriel is House Marshall (and heir) to a purist House. But when he sees Kel, instinct kicks in and he initiates a mate bond with her. Kel's distrust of Gabe along with Gabe's struggle between instinct & duty makes their investigation into the disappearance of girls contentious at times.
In the end, I enjoyed the book despite the bad guy's obviousness and would continue on to the next one.
Gabriel, a pure bred, will be the next leader of his race and the enforcer until then. Kel is not a pure breed and works for Incog dealing with the blood dealers. Gab follows his partner into another town knowing that he has turned bad. While stalking him he notices Kel stalking. When she is saved by Gab from his partner their bond is ignited immediately. Now they both have to find out why 12 year old girls are being bled and killed and how will Gab tell his family that his blood-mate is a half-breed.
I really liked this book. The plot was new and fast paced. Whenever they were not on the case they were in bed. HOT! The author did a fantastic job in her writing style.
It was however predictable. The bad guy was a no brainer but it still did not detour from a good book. It was really hard to put down. The ending was also good.
This is my first introduction to author Amanda Vyne, I enjoyed this story but certainly wish we had more "out of the head" involvement with the characters. This story is heavy with internal monolog which isn't necessarily bad but it takes away from the connection between the H and h. I would have liked to have seen the 2 main characters spend quality time with one another and talking getting to know each other rather than just the "blood" connection bringing them together. I felt the connection between the H and h was lacking a bit and though we know they end up together we are never really shown a nice conclusion. Over all a good read, pretty well written with a few errors here and there but nothing to distracting. A little slow moving but entertaining nonetheless. Will most likely continue the series with the next book about the Drachon.
This book, 'More Than Blood', pulled me in and did not let go. I literally could not put it down. I loved the storyline. Quite unique and intriguing. The way it played out was exceptional. Full of suspense, action, humor and full of great characters. I loved Kel. She is full of wit and sarcasm with a healthy dose of kick-ass. Gabe is pure hotness. The hot and steamy scenes were great. Well written and well thought out. A great add to your tbr list. Recommended. I look forward to reading more of this series.
There is quite a bit about this book that I liked, I really felt the supernatural world the author built was done very well and it kept me interested through the entire story, the only downfall was the interaction between Gabrial and Kel. I didn't feel the combustible zing between them in a story with a world that was built so strong. I believe in this series and I can see it doing really well with some added emotional investment for Gabrial and Kel.
This wasn't a terrible book, though I couldn't personally connect to the story or the characters. However, the author did a good job of establishing the world of which she writes, most notably with the Sanguens and the Crossbreeds.
There were some descriptive phrases that became annoying after a bit due to overuse (the phrase that stuck out the most was "liquid brown" eyes, described four times on one page). Other than that, fairly good story.
Really enjoyed that book. I've not read anything from this author before, but I will be reading the rest of the aeries. for sure. I loved all the characters, they're well developed and make for a really interesting read. the story although not 100% unique had a lot of really different concepts. I really enjoyed the plot twists. it kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. finished it at 1:30am because I couldn't out it down. book hangover material for sure.
More Than Blood deserves a less campy cover. Vyne's erotic paranormal romance is well-written and beyond steamy with a female lead that I will miss in book 2. This book would not be one that I would read when someone might read over my shoulder. I look forward to reading Raife's story in book 2, More Than Life.
The characters in this book were well written. There are many species represented, similar to those that are popular, like vampires, but different. Kel and Gabe are from two different classes of society, but when they meet, they have an instant and undeniable bond. The relationship between them is rocky, but intense. I would read more from this author.
like a story with a group of paranormal beings getting along for the greater good. I like that 2 people set a precedence for future mates. This story was suspenseful and interesting. I liked how the past got corrected and finally the truth comes out. I didn't like how kel was putting all of her crap on gabrial. I liked how they got together and the story line kicked ass.
I got this book as a free download and I really liked it, if you want to keep warm on a cold day or night download it today. It was the first book of the series and it was full of action, intrigue, some interesting and sexy characters and plenty of steamy romance. As usual I ended up reading way passed my bedtime. I will be sure to check out other books by this Author.
Great story. Love the paranormal world that author created, it's quite good. This had a good mystery and strong characters. Kel was awesome!! Of course I'm going to follow this series, author writes well.
A wonderful new series, wonderful characters, unique world, hot romance, one of the best book surgeries I've read in a while, would recommended to all lovers of fantasy and romance.
