So I heard this series is gonna be an anime adaptation soon which I was surprised since I thought it was gonna be boring but, it was actually cute and funny in parts. It's nothing serious like all you're going to get is a group of ikemen salaryman saying nice fluff with funnies and looking top notch. Glasses guy ain't so bad i gotta say 😙 The art is pretty also so it's worth checking out this wholesome manga that should've been Yaoi but ain't lol.
This is just as warm hearted, funny, and adorable as the anime it inspired. Plus it has one of my all time favorite anime/manga cats. Such a feel good read.
He cuteness of this book cannot be expressed by words, I'm serious. Also I just love the fact that there was no romance in it. There are so many things out there in the world that have nothing to do with romance.
I hugged this book after reading it. That's how much I loved it.
I'm extremely pleased to find that the manga is exactly as good as the anime was - which was one of my absolute favorite things from 2023. I was so, so delighted to hear that Seven Seas licensed the manga. And now the first volume is finally here! It's lovely quality, with a very nice color plate, and while it's a pretty thin volume, there's a lot of great stuff packed in.
After blazing my way through the omnibus for Shut-In Shoutarou Kominami, I was starting to wonder if the manga would lean a bit more heavily on the jokes and not be as intense on the emotions as the anime was. But this is, I think, a more mature and thoughtful story that's still extremely funny but also does a great job of portraying the reality of the toll work stress can take on your physical and mental health.
Momose's goofy boss is just so, so healing, both for him and for the readers.
As with Shut-In Shoutarou, the structure is split out into a bunch of fairly short chapters, with bonus stories sprinkled in. Like with
An all-ages manga about happy-go-lucky workplace, a modern day fairytale. I recommend this light-hearted comedy as a kind of healing material for working adults to escape from the real workplace.
You may sense light BL elements but nothing too obvious, it can be easily accepted by everyone. There are 4 main characters in this series, working in an advertising agency Mintte, serving clients from entertainment and hospitality industries.
Main characters:
白崎 (34) manager who’s been working here for 10 years. He’s a natural airhead and unknowingly performs dumb and silly actions all the time, but it’s very cute and sweet for those around him to watch. He’s beloved by the whole team because of his excellent work performance and kind personality.
桃瀬 (26) new joiner #1 who was constantly bullied by his ex-boss and suffered mental and physical stress. He was attracted by an advertisement board for planetarium (twinkle star in the dark sky) and applied for this company. 白崎 is slowing helping him overcome the shadows from the ex-boss.
青山 (39) department head who’s recently divorced by the ex-wife as she’s lonely in the big house that he bought, blamed him for being too focused on work to earn money. He’s now living alone and filling the house with 討拍熊 a bear mascot, always seeking attention from others because he’s lonely.
金城 (24) new joiner #2 who overhead 白崎 and 桃瀬’s conversation in the restaurant and decided to join the company as he’s also been bullied by his ex-boss. He’s well-rounded and has high EQ, can get along with women or men, young or old. His compliments make 青山 feel important and happy.
Supporting characters:
白桃 an abandoned kitten found by 白崎 and 桃瀬, it has a proud personality because the last owner left it alone at home and didn’t play with it. Actually it really likes the new owner 白崎 but too shy to shows its affection.
討拍熊 a bear mascot wanting to be loved, it has a giant amusement park in a remote area but has very little visitors. This character has a lot of self-pity and makes many cold jokes.
桃太郎 Momotaro from folklore is the cartoon version of 桃瀬 drawn by 白崎 to cheer him up.
金太郎 Kintaro from folklore is the cartoon version of 金城 drawn by 白崎.
Finally, a story that dares to ask, “what if your soulmate isn’t mr. tall, dark, and handsome but actually the most silliest, cat-loving man ever?”
I love this so much!
This is such a delightful little story that genuinely made me laugh the whole way through.
The central developing relationship between the emotionally traumatized Momose and his endearing boss Shirosaki is so wholesome and sweet. They have such a fun, mutually supportive dynamic.
All the secondary characters and background developing relationships are also really entertaining. There’s a cat, too!
This series has a lot of good vibes.
I really appreciate it when queer manga sidesteps a lot of the more problematic, toxic elements that the BL genre is unfortunately well-known for. It’s really refreshing whenever a story in this genre isn’t a wadded up ball of red flags and gross fetishization.
Anyway.
So looking forward to reading more!
This is a perfect choice for readers who enjoy a queer, slice-of-life rom-com~
Once I got the hang of reading a manga in the traditional Japanese manner, I quite enjoyed this short graphic serial (volume 1) comic. It was light-hearted, funny, and entertaining. As someone who has a long history of employment under quite a few bosses (good and bad), this story was relatable in an easy-going, amusing way! Looking forward to exploring further volumes of "My New Boss is Goofy"
The format reminds me of a few different mangas, for the most part it can kind of lead to a relative feel when you read them in a volume like this. It is very cute, and does feel like it has more progress from a building relationships stand point so it does make me interesting in reading more if my library gets it in.
I watched the anime adaptation last year and absolutely loved it. While the story works better animated, I still enjoy reading it. A clumsy character can get annoying fast, but Shirosaki is so effortlessly charming that you can't help but love him. My one criticism is that the way these chapters get numbered drives me crazy, but that's merely a consequence of being serialized on Twitter.
Ab da an hatte ich eher die Assoziation zu "A Man and His Cat".
I think this is truly a relatable story for adults. Most of us have probably been in a situation where we have an awful boss or coworker - and if you move to a job that you enjoy going to work and feel more appreciated, it’s such a huge difference.
I will say the only thing that really bothers me about this story, is the repetition. I think this works really well for a series if it’s published in a magazine, but him constantly talking about his old boss at the beginning of every chapter gets a little annoying.
When I found out this book would be published in Vietnam, I was thrilled and immediately decided I had to buy it no matter what. The story has a peaceful, light-hearted vibe that’s easy to enjoy. It’s simple to follow, and the adorable illustrations add a lot of charm. I really love all the characters. However, in my opinion, the emotional impact of the anime is much stronger than that of the book.
Adorable and funny, a perfect combination. It is not really BL, more shoujo-ish rom-com (the MC do not have any romantic feelings for each other, but there are many cute situations XD) The characters are too cute and pure 😍🥰
This is the cutest! I know this is not a BL but it gives me Cherry Magic vibes and I am so happy for Momose who left his previous job because of his abusive boss and find about job and a boss that care for him.
I am looking forward to the next volume and I may watch the anime tonight.
This was cute, but it wasn't really a BL. Maybe that develops in later volumes, but this was fanboying at best. I liked the premise, although it was obviously originally published in a serial (or online) since it felt the need to recap the story at the beginning of each chapter.
This was one of the most adorable mangas I have ever read. It speaks to a lot of corporate employees I think. We have all wished to have met the most mythical creature - a great boss who is also goofy and makes you smile and inspires you.
