Damn this really might be my favorite of Becca’s books so far! And not only smut wise but the story really got to me!!
So …it’s messy and raw and honestly, kind of hard to read at times because of how real it felt. They’re both shaped by survival, by isolation, by the kind of upbringing where no one taught them what love was supposed to look like but still, they find something soft in each other and somehow, despite all of that, there’s sweetness threaded through.
There’s this unspoken understanding between the two that what they have is normal for them. Nothing about it feels coerced or predatory. J might not be the quickest when it comes to memory or learning, but it reads more like gaps in education than anything that compromises his ability to give consent. They’re just... two people raised in isolation, in their own little world, and that really comes through. It’s complicated, a bit uncomfortable at times, but also incredibly human.
It won’t be for everyone and that’s okay but it resonated with me more than I expected.

This was so good?????? I’m kind of blown away right now. Becca Vale I was not familiar with your game. I mean I was, because I’ve read like 7 Becca Vale books but this was by far the most detailed and well-rounded and just like a whole ass book??? I just really loved getting all the Becca Vale goodness in a more extensive story). Like it was still over the top and cheesy and a little (a lot) insane but I just really loved it so much. Crossing my fingers that we get more of this vibe from Becca Vale because I would devour that shit. This is what I’m looking for in taboo books! This totally had the “I’m so obsessed with you and you’re my soulmate and I need to be closer to you in every way” vibes that I wanted. So good!!!

- Overall as Smut: Okay, this may be my fave from Becca. I loved the vibe that came through and how I could almost hear them in my head from how the book was written. I feel like this one was hard because of their circumstances but at the same time so sweet. With the prologue following them through J’s 18th birthday, I feel like I actually had more of a connection to the MCs and understand the relationship they had with each other. My guess is this might be why Smashwords (bought on itch.io) did not allow the book but nothing inappropriate was even thought of until both MCs were of age. I loved the passage Becca wrote before the book to warn of the contents. I didn’t feel like either MC had any intellectual difficulties besides a lack of proper education and J being just a little slower to pick things up or remember things, neither being related to an issue regarding consent. I did notice how neither really acted like anything was wrong with the idea of incest, but I have a feeling from their upbringing that this just wasn’t a thing discussed as being wrong. They lived in a bubble of their own.
- Cisco: My heart hurts for this poor baby. It’s hard to imagine how he went and survived all those years on his own and still came out a decent person. He could have easily fallen into the same lifestyle or not made it out at all. Yet he took care of himself and J at the same time. He was desperate for love and would make it himself if he had to.
- Jimmie: Sweet child. If he came into this world without C, he would not have made it. Damn near didn’t make it to this world at all. And to hold onto his sweetness like he did? That was all C.
- C+J: Definitely some unhealthy sibling attachment and trauma bonding occurring here. C for sure relies on J emotionally and J relies on C emotionally and physically.
- Their Community: I know they are from a small town, but wow how everyone around them failed them. My Notes:
- Overall as Smut: Okay, this may be my fave from Becca. I loved the vibe that came through and how I could almost hear them in my head from how the book was written. I feel like this one was hard because of their circumstances but at the same time so sweet. With the prologue following them through J’s 18th birthday, I feel like I actually had more of a connection to the MCs and understand the relationship they had with each other. My guess is this might be why Smashwords (bought on itch.io) did not allow the book but nothing inappropriate was even thought of until both MCs were of age. I loved the passage Becca wrote before the book to warn of the contents. I didn’t feel like either MC had any intellectual difficulties besides a lack of proper education and J being just a little slower to pick things up or remember things, neither being related to an issue regarding consent. I did notice how neither really acted like anything was wrong with the idea of incest, but I have a feeling from their upbringing that this just wasn’t a thing discussed as being wrong. They lived in a bubble of their own.
- Cisco: My heart hurts for this poor baby. It’s hard to imagine how he went and survived all those years on his own and still came out a decent person. He could have easily fallen into the same lifestyle or not made it out at all. Yet he took care of himself and J at the same time. He was desperate for love and would make it himself if he had to.
- Jimmie: Sweet child. If he came into this world without C, he would not have made it. Damn near didn’t make it to this world at all. And to hold onto his sweetness like he did? That was all C.
- C+J: Definitely some unhealthy sibling attachment and trauma bonding occurring here. C for sure relies on J emotionally and J relies on C emotionally and physically.
- Their Community: I know they are from a small town, but wow how everyone around them failed them. Even though this one isn't on Smashwords the other reviews made me go out and get it. This one definitely sits alongside some others as a favourite. Ridiculously hot. However, I did find myself liking Cisco as an overprotective big brother and Daddy more than as a lover. Likely due to the build up of their childhood together. This was great though, what gives this more than a porn without plot feel.
