A Creepy Boss, Rubbery Eggs, and Exploding Heads: A Story of Possession

Rate this book
You've excused yourself to the bathroom during another gallagher at the bar. Your reflection is staring a little bit too hard at you from the mirror. You question if there's something actually there.

Are you possessed? Is this mental affliction demonic? Or does it just feel like it is? Our protagonist Laura hasn't a single clue and is powerless against it's influence

She doesn't realize it, but her world is falling apart. A novella not for the faint of heart.

“A wind of high pressure releases from the widening crack of the doorway and a putrid smell emerges.”

“A Creepy Boss, Rubbery Eggs, and Exploding Heads: A Story Of Possession” by Lex Tipton gets 4 out of 5 stars.

This is a debut novella by this author that I stumbled upon in a Facebook group. Not only was the title intriguing but the synopsis had caught my attention. Note: There is a trigger warning highlighted in the beginning before the reader dives in.

Laura is a complex and captivating character that I just had to see what would happen next. From her crappy situation of a job, to her marriage, down to her personal struggles. I felt horrible for her at times but also had me questioning her sanity / downfall as her rage took over. Is she possessed or finally snapped or both?

I’ve been a reading slump, but I devoured this book in a couple days. Like all short books I wish this was a little longer, especially detailing some of the time lapses, but overall it was a quick, wild read.

unfortunately, this book was a lot different than I expected. I kind of thought it would be more supernatural, considering its a possession story. it was initially the cover and the title that drew me in, but the synopsis on the back of the book was pretty vague and I didn't know what to expect. the trigger warning at the very beginning unnerved me because I didn't realise it would be about sexual assault. I probably should have put the book down then but I felt like I should atleast give it a chance.
the other reviewers clearly like the book so I think it was just not for me 💔 the author seems very respectful (especially about the topic of the book), so I wish nothing but the best for her and hope her career thrives! :)

This book was beyond anything I have read before. Laura went from a loving, dependable woman to a cold blooded, murdering person in a quick amount of time. I am not sure when the change occurred in her. I remember reading about how much of a jerk her boss was, a young kid that was incompetent and a husband whom she adored to this stark raving lunatic. Once she began losing time things spiraled out of control and the reader feels just as insane as Laura. Excellent story of what happens when someone is taken over by something else and how fast the spiral happens in becoming someone unrecognizable.

I absolutely could not put this book down. Laura as a character was so captivating. I’m not usually squeamish, but this had my stomach turning a little. Looking forward to anything Lex puts out in the future!

I loved this book! It had me hooked from the beginning. Took it on vacation to have something to read but ended up reading the whole thing on the plane ride down.

This is a debut horror book from Lex Tipton. It takes a close look at the darker aspects of the human psyche. There’s a creeping sense of dread the entire time and I really appreciate the fresh take on possession.

This book made me feel as crazy as the MC 🤣 between the gaps in time and memory, the vivid descriptions of violence, and the overall atmosphere, I am left confused, shocked, and somehow content 😅

I was honestly happily surprised when I read this book. When I hear "A Story Of Possession", I already have an idea in mind of what themes generally come with possession stories, but this book subverts the readers expectations of a possession story. I love the interesting take this book has on possession and how it ties into themes of trauma. I am so glad I was drawn in by the title and cover art and decided to grab a copy of this book.
