Good-time girl Loretta LeMieux has always lived life on her own terms. When her latest beau refuses to marry her, she believes marriage isn’t in her future. However, a chance meeting with Samuel Wright at the train station knocks her off kilter and has her considering what life would be like with a dependable, handsome man.
After his engagement is broken, Samuel Wright’s only goal is to leave Greenwood. Embarrassed that his former fiancee prefers her long-time love instead of him, he has no reason to stay. His exit plans are derailed, though, when he meets Loretta and spends an unforgettable night with her, making him reconsider his decision to leave.
When Samuel receives a telegram that his family is coming from Chicago to meet his new wife, he begs Loretta for her assistance. He’ll pay her to pretend to be his wife, so he doesn’t appear the fool in front of his loved ones. She agrees, under the condition they don’t become too close. However, the longer his family stays in town, the more attached Samuel and Loretta become.
Will they be able to fight their feelings or will they truly love each other…When The Time Is Right
I love historical romance, and this book features one of my favorite tropes, executed beautifully by the author. Set in Tulsa’s Black Wall Street, the story follows Loretta, who believes she isn’t worthy of love. The writing is captivating, and I couldn’t put it down. Also, I’m obsessed with Marissa’s book cover designs, they’re stunning!
I just love this author! Her style, voice, and emotional impact are always chefs kiss!
Sassy and misunderstood heroine, Loretta LeMieux, is not your typical historical romance lead. She is brash, funny, and misunderstood by some of the community in Greenwood. Samuel Wright plays life and business by the book. He’s level headed, calm, unassuming, and he’s NEVER met anyone like Loretta before. From the moment they meet (in a very charming meet-cute) it’s them against the world.
If you enjoy small town African American romance, charming historical settings, and passion by the train-load, add this book to your TBR asap!
