I was interested in this book to potentially acquire new suggestions for making my lectures more interesting. Having once taken a Dale Carnegie course and studying Communications, I already had a foundation to build upon. Therefore, I may not have learned as much as might another person. I did not disagree with the material and found that I did pick up new ideas., particularly about video presentations and methods of holding audience interest. I also found the suggestions for engaging a room to be useful.
The author recommends that the book be used as a reference, focusing first on most relevant topics. Because I read the book for the purpose of reviewing it, I caution a person reading this review to consider that other people may find it more useful than did I. There were also links to a website with video support for the concepts that would be helpful for people focused on particular aspects of the material.
I do recommend this book to improve upon, and become more comfortable with, public speaking. Use it more as a reference than a quick read and practice the suggestions provided.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
How many times have you seen people struggling to keep themselves awake when you're presenting? Ivan gives some really cool and simple tricks to make your presentation interesting and tell a story so the listeners are actively participating and going through it with you. I'm definitely going to refer this book time and again with these tactics and I've already started practicing a few of these. Must read for everyone who likes communicating with others.
This is a very engaging book on public speaking and communication. The tips are practical and can be used immediately. After reading the book, it gave me a renewed sense of confidence. I can't wait for my next presentation!
Ivan is truly an engaging public speaker. I would highly recommend you to check out his courses in Coursera and Udemy. They are absolutely life changing!
Without a doubt, this book was just as engaging as the author is in person. Full with tips and tricks to keep your audiences ( physical or virtual) engaged and ready to learn.
Ivan is a great speaker but more importantly there are a ton of practical and usable micro chunks of advice in the book that should help anyone who ever has to speak with one or more humans (aka all of us).
Great reading with practical tips on how to communicate better - you can almost hear Ivan talking to you and challenging the audience to end boring #endboring
