A Small Town, Second Chance, Romantic Suspense from Bestselling author Nyssa Kathryn.
Australian Romantic Suspense Author, Nyssa Kathryn, is a passionate reader and writer of all things romance. Living in South Australia with her hubby and daughter, when she's not spending time with the family, she's either plotting her next story or got her head stuck in a book.
Reckless Love is book five in the Reckless series by Nyssa Kathryn. Two years ago, Lock Walker decided to end their friendship and lose the girl of his dreams, Callie Ward, out of fear for Callie's safety. However, it was too late when Lock Walker realised he made a mistake and returned to Misty Peak to explain his discussion to Callie. The heartache of Lock's discussion was too much for Callie, who ran away from Misty Peak, determined never to return. However, when her father became ill, she decided to return, unbeknownst to her. Lock Walker also chose to leave the military and return home. When Lock discovered that a stalker had been following Callie for the last two years, Lock became determined to keep her safe. Will this allow Callie and Lock to find a second chance at love, or will the stalker keep them apart? The readers of Reckless Love will continue to follow Callie and Lock to discover what happens.
Reckless Love is another fantastic book by Nyssa Kathryn. It takes its readers on a love, suspense, and friendship journey. Nyssa Kathryn also helped me understand the consequences of bullying and how it can affect the victims and the people around them. From the first book I read of Nyssa Kathryn Eden, I fell in love with her writing style and the way she ensures I engage with her books. Reckless Love kept up the tradition. I love Nyssa Kathryn's portrayal of her characters and how they intertwine throughout this book. Reckless Love is well-written and researched by Nyssa Kathryn. I like Nyssa Kathryn's description of the settings, which allowed me to imagine being part of the book's plot.
Thank you to the author and publisher for my ARC, which I received in exchange for an honest review. I recommend this book.
Second Chance Small town romance with a suspense twist!
Callie and Locke were the perfect couple, madly in love and planning their lives together. Until suddenly, it all fell apart. Heartbroken and confused, Callie goes her own way and leaves Locke behind. 2 years pass, and Callie and Locke find themselves both back home in their small town. Locke is determined to earn Callie’s love and trust back - but he doesn’t realize how much hurt and loss he truly caused. Also, Locke isn’t the only one trying to earn Callie’s affection - when anonymous notes start escalating to more, Locke realizes that Callie isn’t safe. All in all, a story of redemption and enduring love. A good read, not my favourite in the series.
The fifth and finale book in the Reckless series just blows it out of the park. Lock Walker has finally come home to reclaim the woman he loves but its not that easy. Callie is guarded but a sinister force throws then together.
“Wise? Good-looking? Strong?” She scoffed. “You were probably born good-looking and strong. Maybe even wise.”
Some suspense and a whole lot of emotional upheaval make for great reading. This amazing author always brings that small town flavor to everything she creates. If you haven't tried her books you’re really missing out.
As always, it's an awesome story from this author. Loved the characters and the plot and suspense. Can't wait to see what happens next in her new series. PS: this story deals with pregnancy loss and as a person who has lost many pregnancies, i feel like it was treated with care and sensitivity.

• Thoughts: This family has been fun to read. I enjoyed the small town. I don't feel this one was my favorite out of the brothers. I did enjoy it. It kept me entertained, and it was a quick read for me. The beginning of this book had me so hooked. It pulled at my heart strings as well. All in all it was a good read. I am glad I read it.
NARRATOR THOUGHTS: Jason Clarke and Avery Caris •Duet Narration •Listening at a 1.5 speed. It's Jason and if you have been following my reviews, Jason is the man! He is perfection and he does not wrong. Period. THE END moving on. Avery is a great narrator. She did a good job with all the female character in the book.
Oh, the pain of a broken heart. Times two, in this case. Lock might have left Callie, but he didn’t mean to make it forever. The problem is, he didn’t clearly communicate that. And when things went sideways and Callie assumed she had no on in her corner, she had to take time to heal. But now she’s back. He’s back. And he’s not letting her go again.
The problem is that someone else doesn’t want to let her go either. But who is it? This one has twists and people who seem like the perfect match for the danger, but then they don’t. Then they do again. Then maybe not. Then it all gets thrown on its side and it’s up to Callie to save herself until Lock can get to her. Even with all of that, this manages to not have too much drama. It’s got a lot of love and redemption and forgiveness with hope and some regrets, but it all only left me wishing for Aspen’s story NOW.
DNF. I tried i really did but the 3rd POV style of writing made it difficult to get absorbed into the story and characters. Also…it was predictable and boring leaving me baffled by all the high ratings left 🫡
Callie and Lock, wow, what an emotional ride with twists and turns everywhere. It's always sad to see a series end, but these two are meant to be our full circle HEA for Misty Peaks, and Nyssa Kathryn has once again given me the feels ❤️
A story of heartache, of time lost, of pain and regret but also one of never-ending love, compassion, and resilience. It has suspense throughout, and it's sad to see the conclusion, but we see our HEA and get a glimpse into the next series where we'll see more of Lock, Callie and his team mates. It's a fab end to the series.
The final installment with the last brother, Lock who loved and lost the one woman, Callie, he is willing to fight for to get her back. Two years have passed since that fateful day when he broke up with her but he did it to protect her and had a very good reason to do it. He did come back for her after the threat was gone but Callie had already left and no one would reveal where she went. She’s back now and Lock is not giving up, he wants and needs to tell her why he did what he did and hopes that she can forgive him and start over. Callie lost more than Lock that day and isn’t ready to forgive and forget…just yet….she still loves him but is scared that he will leave again and if it happens again, she won’t be able to survive the loss. Lock is determined to fight for her and when he finds out that she had a stalker and the stalker is back, he will do whatever it takes to protect her and this time he isn’t going anywhere and is not losing her again. Holy smokes, a bittersweet end to this series and this one packs a punch and be sure to have tissues by your side, you are going to need plenty of them as their story unfolds. I loved these two, no over the top drama and even after years apart, the love is still strong and pulls them together. The story flowed beautifully with descriptions that were spot on, the suspense, the twists and turns, surprises and amazing characters had me flipping the pages and not wanting their story to end. *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
Nyssa outdid herself with this one. My apologies to Kayden and Tilly, I still love you…but Lock and Callie overtook you with this absolute heartbreaker! Phew! This book was an absolutely brilliantly written second chance romance.
The circumstances and timing of Lock and Callie’s end was so devastating, so traumatic, and so heartbreaking, the road back together seemed impossible.
“He taught me what love feels like. Then he taught me what heartbreak feels like.”
Nyssa really brought the feels with this one. What do you do when the person you need most, needs you far far away?
Lock and Callie’s HEA is hard fought, the cloud of grief thick, casting a dark shadow over what was and what could be. Terrible, all consuming. It takes a tremendous amount of healing and trust for Callie to come back to Lock, but Lock was up for the challenge and never gave up, knowing him and Callie were forever. No matter what, it was always going to be them in the end.
And the end almost came prematurely with Callie’s admirer’s intervention. Nyssa not only brought the feels, she brought the mystery that concluded out of left field with this one. I loved the intricate storyline we found ourselves in with this read. The who done it.
I am sad to see the end of this series. It is so good and it really ended with the best IMO. But the great thing is it never really ends and I am greatly looking forward to what comes next in Amber Ridge.
This is the last book in the series and having read all of the others, I was a little disappointed. I found the story to be predictable from both the second chance love story line but also from a ‘who is the stalker’ story line. From the initial mention of Antwan losing his girlfriend, it was obvious that he was the stalker and while it wasn’t the loss of the girl you thought it would be, he was still obviously the stalker. I think this was further emphasised when he was at the scene of Hamish’s bullying from a local man and then the man was killed. Pointed to either Jesse or Antwan. While it was a surprise why he killed members of his team, the fact that another member of the team had murdered its members and not Malone (the terrorist character) was also very predictable.
Tackling emotive issues such as pregnancy loss in a romance novel is difficult and this is one area that I felt the book was good. It would have been easy to mention the heartbreak once and then skim over the topic for the rest of the book but that wasn’t the case. I do feel Lock’s feelings could have been explored more but at the end of the day, this is a romance and not a tragedy so overall I think it got the right mark.
The spice was nice and vanilla with no shocks and easy to read. There wasn’t an abundance but I think this worked well, letting the overall story lead the book and not the spice. It was however predictable that Callie would ‘fall’ pregnant again unexpectedly. Personally I don’t feel that Callie would have been that careless, especially as the book discussed her thoughts on maybe not wanting to go through a pregnancy again but she doesn’t take precautions not to be (I think a condom was only mentioned once in the book and no other contraception was discussed).
Overall this was a predictable but easy book to read. It is always nice to catch up with other characters that have had their own books and see their progress and development as well. If you are reading this entire series, I would recommend having a break between books with another book as it was also easy to spot the same sentences and phrases used throughout the series in individual books. I would recommend this book and the series overall as it was easy to read and overall enjoyable.

Well bless my soul - how was this book so good I even fell a bit for the bad guy!? Callie Ward and Lock Walker were once so in love they couldn’t imagine a tomorrow without one another….until tragedy struck in ways the other had no idea about. With Lock thinking he was protecting Callie by not telling her what happened and Callie wanting to seek comfort in Lock but being shut out, they spent 2 years mourning what could have been. When they both find themselves back in Misty Peak where it all began, Callie starts receiving mysterious letters from a stalker from her past. Lock wants to help her, but Callie’s heart is closed off from the pain off the past. When the stalker steps up their behaviours, Callie breaks down and asks for Lock’s help. When Lock’s former Ghost Ops team fly in to visit, they end up all working to protect Callie….but no one could imagine who the creeper could really be. With the hunky brother characters and their beautiful ladies from the series making appearances and the potential makings of a new story…this was one book I read not once, not twice but 4 times before I could put into words how much I loved this book. I keep thinking this is my favourite, until I read Nyssa’s next book which then becomes my new favourite. Grab a drink, a blanket and snacks because once you start reading you won’t want to stop!
Reckless Love is the fifth and final book in the reckless series. We meet Lock Walker, former Ghosts Ops Operative and Callie Ward, Misty Peak’s favorite yoga/pilates instructor and the love of Lock’s life. Two years ago, Lock shocked Callie by unexpectedly breaking up with her, leaving town for a mission and never returning her calls. Callie was left broken hearted and grieved Lock so deeply that she decided to leave Misty Peak all together. They’ve both made their way back into town and while Lock is hoping to rekindle their relationship, Callie wants absolutely nothing to do with him.
If you’ve never read a Nyssa Kathryn book, you are missing out on some of the best romantic suspense stories, full of super protective heroes and amazing women. Lock proves time and again that he will do anything to protect Callie. Once Lock learns that Callie has had a stalker for years and they started sending her letters now that she has returned home, he stops at nothing to save her. Loved Lock and Callie’s story and thought it was a perfect ending to this series.
Lock and Callie were the perfect love story until they weren’t…. Lock’s need to protect Callie, terrible timing and lack of communication caused their perfect life they were building to shatter, leaving them both miserable. 2 years later they’re both back in town and have very different ideas of how they think things should be. Even as the truth of behind their downfall comes out the fact still remains you can’t rewrite the past. Is love enough? Oh and I forgot to mention someone other than Lock is very happy to have Callie back in town. When her safety is on the line how will they each handle it? And who is the threat? This book was so good! And the twist… my goodness that was a surprise! I had all the feels with this one and I felt for each characters’ situation so deeply! Reckless Love is for sure one to add to your TBR!
Nyssa has out done herself. Lock & Callie absolutely capture your heart. Lock is so intense he sends shivers down your spine. The emotional turmoil from both of them really squeezes your heart. I love the persistence Lock displays in winning Callie back. Nyssa has given us unexpected twist & turns you don't see coming increasing the suspense in this book. Though this brilliant book concludes this series which leaves you loving these Walker brothers more, Nyssa has wet our appetite for the next series! Exciting!
How does this authors stories just keep getting better?
Lock broke up with Callie two years ago, and she left Misty Peak shortly after. Two years later, she's back to help her dad, and Lock will do anything to get her back.
Lock knows he did the wrong thing but he's not been able to talk to Callie to explain his actions and he does everything he can to show her how much he loves her and needs them to be together. After everything Callie went through its a huge emotional time for her.
The love these two have for each other was clear, but they had things to discuss before they could move forward. There is also a stalker to deal with and also a murderer but with no idea who either one is, tensions were high. Lots of twists made me jump from one name to another throughout the book, and I was not expecting the name that popped up at the end.
An excellent end to this series, I will miss the Walker brothers and their partners, but there's a sneak peak into the next series, I can't wait!
- second chance - standalone (each book is different couple) - suspense - ex-military mmc
A nice wrap up to the series, second chances, suspense, time lost, twists, and I was left wanting more. This whole series has been great, but this story was my favorite. Callie and Lock have an unfinished history. He thought he was doing the right thing, but it backfired miserably, leaving them both with a broken heart.
They are both home again, and Lock intends to fix his past mistakes. The journey is emotional, bumpy and at times scary. Can Lock break down the walls Callie has erected and keep her this time? Just as we think we are finished, a hint as to where we are headed next appears, leaving this reader wanting more.
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
Two years ago, Lock broke Callie’s heart. They both left town, but now they’re both back in Misty Ridge. Lock wants Callie back, but Callie isn’t sure she can take that sort of risk. The start of this story is wildly intense, and while it ebbs in intensity, the characters drawn you in and won’t let you go. I loved Callie and Lock’s story - so much pain to get past, such lovely happiness when things are going well, plus the terror at the end was so intense. Another fantastic read by Nyssa Kathryn.
I loved this book, as well as all of this series. Hell.. I love all of Nyssa's books, and this one was surely not an exception!
Callie had her world shaken when her relationship with Lock ended. She lost him and then had more losses in the little time after the breakup that made her leave her small town and focus on herself. After a few years she returns, better, and opens her own yoga studio and life is good for her. If only she had him.. Lock return to his home town with one thing in mind: to win callie back. He never stoped loving her, and is willing to do all he can to hever her back. Of course, there is a lot of unfinished business, and she was hurt badly by him in the breakup. So he starts to gain her trust. And when she is put in danger he goes all protective to make sure she is alright. She has a stalker, and at first it was a bit harmless, but then things quickly excalated and the suspense was palpable! And that twist letting us know who it was? I did not see that coming! Both main characters were so down to earth and relatable that I was rooting for them since the beggining. I could understand both points of view, and wanted them to get on the same page stat. I also enjoyed to read about the previous characters, mainly the brothers. That bond and brothergood and the way the author relates those connections are priceless. I also enjoyed Aspen's side character (and was very pleased to know she will have her story next). Who wouldn't want to have a friend like her? I'm sad to see these characters and this small town go. But I'm sure that Amber Ridge is going to be just as awsome!
This is my favorite book in the series. It’s a rollercoaster emotional ride filled with suspense, mystery, heartache, family, forgiveness, love, misunderstandings, second-chances, and redemption.
I loved Callie and Lock together. Lock was a determined man with a plan – to get Callie back. He messed up badly and knew it and was determined to do whatever it took for however long it took to have Callie back in his life for good. Callie thought she and Lock would be together forever, until they weren’t. Until that one horrible day where Lock crushed her dream and broke her heart. Now they’re both home and while Callie’s avoiding, Lock’s seeking her out to explain and reconcile. The problem is someone else is watching, has been watching and is determined to have Callie for their own. The twists and turns and who could it be were great! There were a few possibilities but just when you thought it was one person, the story moved in a different direction, and then again. This book was such a great ending to the series and though I’m sad to see it end, I cannot wait for the new series and Aspen’s story!
3.75⭐ 1.5🌶 The story was good, but the writing style wasn't for me (I prefer dual.POV), but that is just me personally. However, I was slightly surprised by who the bad guy was. I would definitely suggest this book for those who are into suspense romance, though.
3.5⭐️ Really good but I loved some of the others in the series a lot more. I’M SO EXCITED FOR JESSE AND ASPEN’S BOOK THOUGH AHHHHH. Can confirm that when the villain was revealed I let out an inhuman screech and whisper-shouted “what the fuck” because WHAT THE FUCK
I enjoyed Reckless Love. I liked the plot, characters and the suspense elements. I enjoyed both Lock and Callie as the main characters. Learning about their past and how they had both dealt with hard decisions and situations. However, it was clear they’d always loved one another despite everything they’d been through and still did. I loved the pop ins from everyone from this series! I really hope we can get a look at them all at some point a few years from now, where they are all at etc. I did work out pretty quickly who the bad guy was but i still enjoyed the story. I’m excited to see where Jesse’s story leads!
The conclusion of the Walker brothers! I really enjoyed Lock and Callie’s story. Spoiler ahead!!! There was definitely suspense and twists I didn’t expect. Nyssa’s writing is fantastic, really bringing the reader into the story. I personally did have a bit of a hard time getting through the scene describing miscarriage due to my own infertility struggles, but the story itself is wonderful! I’m excited to see what Nyssa comes up with next!

Oh, what Callie went through was truly heartbreaking. I completely understand why she had such a hard time trusting Lock after everything that happened. The love Lock had for Callie never faded— it was just a matter of getting Callie to open up and trust Lock wouldn't hurt her again. I really appreciated how determined and persistent Lock was in proving himself and fighting for her trust— his efforts to grovel were so sincere.
I don't know why I bother trying, but every time I read a romantic suspense book, I try to guess who the villain is, and I always get it wrong. The same thing happened with this book. I thought I had it figured out but I was completely off. The reveal took me by surprise.
What a great way to end the series!! Although I am sad to see the Walker brothers go, there's a little sneak peak of what (or who) the new series will be about, which has me excited for what's to come.
Please note that there may be triggers for certain readers, including themes like miscarriage, so I would caution anyone sensitive to this topic before reading.
This is Lock and Callie's story and it doesn't disappoint. Lock made a decision two years ago in order to keep Callie safe, a decision he has regretted ever since. Now both are back in town and Lock desperately wants to tell Callie why he did what he did, but she won't talk to him. Persistent, he finally tells her but it won't be easy, especially when he discovers why she left. As they try to reconnect, Callie's stalker returns and this time his stalking escalates to murder. When his identity is discovered, the betrayal shocks everyone to their core. This book has so much drama and suspense and is full of many twists and turns, that you will not be able to put it down. I found myself holding my breathe and was sitting on the edge of my seat as I read it. I love Nyssa's style of writing and I am looking forward to her new series and reading about Jesse and Aspen.
Lock and Callie’s story started three years before and ended after a year. Now, two years later, Lock is out of the military, back home in Misty Peak, and ready to win Callie back. Well… that’s his plan anyway, and I, for one, am fully behind it, cheering him on.
Callie is a lovely young woman who has suffered a dreadful trauma but is now taking life by the horns and moving on. Her inner strength is admirable, even if she doesn’t see how strong she really is.
Lock is a character that I like a lot, but I also wanted to give a deft kick to at the beginning. 🤣 Like his brothers, he’s a protective alpha guy who has blinkers on regarding any other woman except Callie.
The mystery of who is sending Callie admiring letters and emails ramps further to backyard visits. What I admire about this author’s plotting is how she includes quite a few characters who could potentially be the perpetrator in the story. I honestly wasn’t sure until the very last part.
It's another fantastic story, and now we have a new series to look forward to.
Reckless love is the final book in the Reckless series. This book follows Locke Walker and Callie. They had planned a life together until Locke broke it off unexpectedly 2 years ago. However he only intended to break up for a couple of weeks, when a threat surrounding his special forces team and their family, had been dealt with. Unfortunately, he didn’t explain that to Callie - after having her heart ripped out runs and works abroad until recently. Locke has left the military and plans to get Callie back but things aren’t quite so easy- Callie is ready to trust Locke with her heart and then other threats start to head her way. Easy read, great characters and a HEA perfect holiday read.
What a wild ending to the Reckless series. This was a really good story, introducing new characters for to the next series and linking back to the start as well. This was a second chance story and was intense with some triggers so be aware.
I absolutely loved Callie and Lock’s story. They have quite the complicated history. They love each other but had a rough break up, now we pick up the story years later. Watching them try to navigate being together in the same town again, whew it is a doozie. They are trying to figure out how to be in the same space again. She has to learn how to trust her instincts again and not just her feelings. Callie has been through so much in the last two years and it has scared her in and made her reevaluate her life. Lock has loved her since the moment he met her, now he has to prove it to her that they are meant to be together. They have the chemistry that is off the charts. There is not without some issues that they need to work through, but they come out stronger for it. I am so glad that they got their happily ever after, they deserve it.
