Hide & Seek #2

Prey for You: A Masked Man Dark Romance Duet

Rate this book
The hunt ends here...

~ CAIN ~

I’d been rough on her, grinding her hands into that tree to make sure she didn’t get away. Rougher than I should have been—her sweater had slipped up while we were… engaged. She’d gotten a few scrapes on her lower back, too, though not nearly as deep.

Even though she wasn’t mad, I found myself fighting a pinch of guilt.

I had hurt her.

But she liked it, my mind insisted.

I pushed the thoughts away and focused on choosing which gauze and tape I wanted to use. Meanwhile, Bridget eyed my kit. I could feel her thinking.

“I suppose I should be grateful,” she said quietly as I pulled a clean towel from the shelf on the wall and laid my things out.

I frowned. “For what?”

She shrugged. “Most guys who feel the need to overcompensate buy themselves massive trucks or guns. You just have a medical kit big enough to provide international aid,” she laughed.

I smirked, but the smile faltered quickly. I ducked my head, focusing on cleaning her wound so she wouldn't see. But my heart beat faster and my hands began to tremble.

This bubble we were in wouldn't last.

They were already working to take her from me.

As I drew the gauze away from her skin, my hands instinctively clenched to fists, squeezing that soaked cotton until her blood dripped over my fingers.

Let the f****rs try.

Prey for You completes the main storyline for these characters. However, to enjoy extra time with this couple you can still pick up HoHoHo for You, a fun, anti-Christmas novella that can be enjoyed year-round!

Tropes & This is a dark romance that involves a masked man / stalker romance. It includes primal play, christian religious themes, violence, humor, and general badassery (among other things.) Buckle up, buttercup!

5 Stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️! Best read of the year!

Step down book boyfriends, I’ve found my book husband! The last time I felt this strongly about a book couple it was Cat and Bones from Jeannine Frost’s Night Huntress series.

“Love” is an understatement to how I feel about this series. Closer to obsession. In fact, I was apprehensive to start the second book because of how much I loved the first, but I had nothing to worry about because Aimee Lynn delivered another stunning book that had me feeling and falling into each character more and more the entire time!

I want to crawl into this book and live there…is that weird? I don’t care, I already ordered the paperback so I can give it a go. Incredible, gritty story of passion, love, faith, redemption, healing, and growth!

I loved the first book - Hunt for you. I was so excited for part 2.

Throughout this whole book, I felt so sorry for Sam. The way he was treated by law enforcement and how he was treated at court. Nothing seemed to be going right, I honestly couldn't see him getting out of this.

At times I was angry with Bridget, I felt like she could've done more but then I had to remember that she had been manipulated pretty much her entire life and so it would've been easy for her to be persuaded and coerced.

Excellent read and I absolutely flew through this. I had to force myself to go to bed at 3:30am and even set an alarm so I could wake up early enough to finish.

I hated Jeremy with a passion! I'm so glad he got humbled towards the end. I want to smack him!!

Very happy with the ending and I cannot wait for the Novella to come out so that I can read a bit more about Sam.

Well, well, well - if it isn't the book I took the day off of work to finish in one afternoon.

You can see my review for the first book in this duet, and it gives you my perspective on the world these characters live in. In this 2nd book, we get to see the real world implications of our plot twist in book 1.

Some people don't like technical writing (court, religion) - I am not those people. The parts that felt like they were dragging? It was by design, because thats how it genuinely feels to go through a public court case. I appreciated that I was led, kicking and screaming, through a potential loss so profound it took my breath away.

The relationship between the FMC and MMC was so obsessive, so blinding, so devastating... it was hard to read at times. You want to shake the FMC to stop letting the trauma win, and at the same time beg the MMC to prioritize himself.

You want to see these two come out on top, and they do. Their HEA is permanent, but not without its own scars. The 🌶 scents are both beautiful and hot, and not the focus of this story.

The book hangover is so very real from this duet.

“‘Relationships leave wounds. Families hurt. This world is broken and it breaks us in return.’”

This one was a little more challenging for me as the religious portion was a lot more in depth and more frequent. Which is not really my thing and also felt odd considering the concept of this story lol.

“But when I held a broken heart in my hands, rather than a body, suddenly the stakes were higher. I had to learn how to do those things with emotions. What a mind fuck.”

But overall, I really enjoyed seeing more of their story play out! The lengths he goes for her is amazing, yet also frustrating at times since it causes them both destruction. I also always enjoy when the FMC stands up for herself, sets boundaries, and sticks to them until they get the reassurance they need to feel those boundaries are seen and heard.

“One second I was convinced Sam had played me. The next I was certain it was Jeremy playing chess with the pieces to make Sam look bad.”

The Story Kept Me Invested

I think the author was trying to get me to find Jesus lol

I’m not a religious person but that doesn’t/didnt stop me from enjoying a story if it has religion in it. For the most part, I really enjoyed that she added it. It was a nice touch. Some parts I felt were overdone. As in, she lost the story a bit to religion. I thought the plot was very good and though I didn’t necessarily like that the events from book one turned into court hearings in the 2nd. That was a bit unexpected from the vibe of the first story. I like how it all came together though and like I said, I was invested. It had depth and character growth. I would have liked more from the ending. I really enjoyed Sam. I thought Bridget was very realistic. I even liked Jeremy and Gerald. I could go on and on but basically, it was enjoyable and I recommend.

4/5 🌶️

A lot more sex and a lot more than just fingering in this one.
Without giving spoilers, I would have given this more stars, but it just kept droning on and on and on with the same issue. Like, give us something new, at least in the first part, it did give us a new added layer to the plot, to the characters, something, but in this not, nope, it was just the same issue being reiterated over and over again with some good sex thrown in there.

Ultimately, I did like this series but I just think this could have been a lot shorter.

Hum...
So this took a turn for the worse.
While I understood the duplicity in her actions in the first book, juggling the part of "working" with the FBI and her inner demons, in this book she was a bubbling mess. Jesus Christ! I just wanted to shake her...

The H was the star in both books...

Also, the focus on the trial; all that technical stuff at some points got me skimming.
The ending felt somewhat disappointing...

Loved the first book to this series, ended with a cliffhanger. This book ended on a good note but it was too drawn out. I almost lost interest in finishing it.

2.5☆. It was good, but comparing to the first one, it wasn't that great. A lot of parts drawn out... very repetitive. I expected more especially with the cliffhanger from the first book.

Brought all the tears. There is a lot of religion which is hard for me but still good.
