Hate and Chaos, the complete duet omnibus with never before seen bonus content.
Touch of Hate
Betrayal cuts the deepest. I would know better than anyone. They never suspected me to be the villain. That didn’t matter anymore, though, because I didn’t just want revenge, I needed it. Leaving my old life behind, I knew I could never return, but there was something… no, someone I had left behind. Scarlet.
Touch of Chaos
It was not supposed to end like this. We were supposed to be together forever, but our world erupted into chaos instead. I’ll fight until the very end, but will it be enough?
C. Hallman is a USA Today Bestselling Author who wrote her debut novel in 2018 and has since published over 100 books in various romance subgenres. Her works have been on numerous bestseller lists and have been translated into 8 languages around the world. When she doesn't write her next novel, she publishes spicy novellas under the pen name Darcy Rose.
Scarlett has been in love with her brother Quinton’s best friend Ren for as long as she can remember. He’d always been kind to her and treated her like another sister. Ren, Luna and his parents were practically family to the Rossi’s. As Scarlett got older, Ren’s friendship also developed into attraction. But after attacks on both Aspen and Quinton, whilst at Corium, Ren vanished. Scarlett was heartbroken that her whole family had turned against the man she had fallen in love with. Ren didn’t hurt people. When Ren’s older brother River had turned up in his life, what he told him made him so angry. Parts of his life, mainly those involving the Rossi’s had been a lie. River wanted to get revenge on everyone one who’d hurt them. After Ren vanished, he and River spent their time plotting their revenge attacks. But one thing hadn’t changed for Ren. His love for Scarlett. So against River’s advice, Ren decided that he was going to keep her, no matter what… This was a gripping duet that told Ren and Scarlett’s story. The chemistry between the couple only got stronger every time Scarlett got a year older, a year nearer to when they could be together. Absolutely superb.
This is an intense, dark, and captivating story of Ren and Scarlet, pulling readers into a whirlwind of betrayal, revenge, and fierce loyalty. In "Touch of Hate", Ren’s journey begins with a quest for vengeance, but Scarlet—a mix of innocence and strength—proves unforgettable. Their shared past in a crime family world tests Scarlet, who matures and holds her ground against Ren's manipulative brother, River. "Touch of Chaos" pushes them further into chaos as Ren battles personal demons, with Scarlet fiercely by his side. The conclusion is powerful, exploring themes of trauma and mental illness with depth. A bonus epilogue provides a sweet end, making this duet an unforgettable emotional ride through love and survival.
That was such a wild ride. I didn't know what to expect after Reign of Freedom when it came to Ren. I just wasn't sure if I could ever forgive him for his actions towards Quinton and Aspen... Turns out I still have those questions but I also still love him and the character I thought he was before the betrayals.
The first part of this story begins around the time of King of Corium and we wade through Ren and Scarlet's more important moments through Reign of Freedom and then we jump a couple of years. I figured a time jump was going to happen given how young Scarlet was, but loved that we got to see those first couple of years through their eyes.
I really loved both of these characters. Ren's sweet side for Scarlet is book boyfriend material; I love how possessive he is and that he also looks out for what's best for her. Scarlett is so young and naïve at times, but she's also so strong and holds her own; especially when dealing with the strife River brings to their lives.
During the present things slowly start to come together and we get to learn parts of why Ren has acted the way he has and what he plans to do to get revenge. But things still feel off and Scarlet is trying to figure out what's going on right along side us. We get little moments here and there until it all ends in utter chaos.
I am so excited for the finale to this duet. Cassy and Josi are always taking us on the most exhilarating adventures and so far Ren and Scarlet's story has delivered.
TOUCH OF CHAOS 3 ⭐ 3 🌶️
This was not the finale what I was hoping for after 15 months of waiting... You know how the middle of trilogies often are? Like you know you have to get from A to C, so B is full of all the mundane details to get you to that exciting final act? This was like that, except there's no C, you just get B... I feel like if the timing of events had been moved around it would have been better... But the third act happens at 65% and we never get any conclusion to River... He just... Goes away? Maybe? Who knows honestly.
There were good parts. I really enjoyed Ren and Scarlet figuring their S out and the epilogue was super sweet with another third act ish conclusion I was happy got settled. The first half or so was exciting and the intensity I was expecting. Overall I'm happy I read it because I needed to know how their story ended, but it's definitely not something I'll read again and leaves an overall meh feeling about the Corium world in general.
BONUS EPILOGUE 4.5 ⭐ 4 🌶️
Okay, this what E X A C T L Y what I needed for the original end of Chaos. This was so good and I absolutely loved it. My only disappointment was that it wasn't enough and now I want more.
I read this duet as separate books when they where originally released.
Touch of Hate
Dark, intense, emotional
Touch of Hate is book 1 of a duet but it's also part of a bigger world. The Rossi Crime family and Corium University so I would recommend you read the books leading up to Ren and Scarlet's storyline. The author is known for dark and yes twisted stories but this one was just a bit more intense, dark and twisted. Ren and Scarlet are obsessed with each other but Ren takes it into the dark scary possessive realm. Especially when you add his brother River to the mix. They are out for revenge for things that happened in their childhood and they don't care who gets in their way and he's taking Scarlet along for the ride. Scarlet seems fragile and definitely shows her immaturity at times but eventually she finds her backbone. Most of the story is surrounding the two of them with River intertwined in Ren's emotions and ear. You know the Rossi's are there in the background but not a big part of the overall storyline.
Buckle up because this one grabs you from the beginning and holds on tight beyond the shocking cliffhanger because it leaves you anticipating what could come next. Luckily you don't have to wait to find out.
Touch of Chaos
Touch of Chaos is the conclusion of Ren and Scarlet's storyline and what a ride it turned out to be.
Their story was intense, dangerous, dark, emotional even brutal at times as they navigate through past traumas ,tragedies and mental illness. Yet it also had compassion, faith, perseverance and unwavering love. Ren was in a fight for his life both physically, mentally and emotionally as the tragedies of his past come roaring back front and center pulling Scarlet into the chaos. Yet Scarlet isn't a wallflower she's fierce, in your face and determined to do whatever it takes to help Ren even facing danger and her angry family head on. I must say the way the sensitive subjects were handled and not brushed aside or romanticized was a bonus.
Buckle up because this one will grab you from the beginning and hold you tight as you anticipate what could come next. Oh and that epilogue.
I received a free ARC through Booksprout an I'm voluntarily leaving my review. Five dark, intense ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Hate & Chaos, is a dark enemies to lovers romance omnibus. It is a duet, comprising of “Touch of Hate” and “Touch of Chaos”.
This has characters introduced previously in the Corium University series. You do not need to read the previous books to get into this duet, however there is a continuation of a plot thread and it would have been helpful to have had a better understanding of the characters, specifically Quinton and Aspen. I was feeling a bit “left in the dark” in the first couple of chapters, but that did not last long. The character and story development was so well done, I was so into the story, it no longer mattered if I knew the side character’s stories.
This story is thrilling, emotional, steamy, has great plot twists and at times, keeps you on edge, wondering “where is this going?”. This is Ren and Scarlet’s story. It is about their deep connection and love for each other - there are so many reasons these two should not be together - age-gap, have been like siblings, brother’s best friend, just to name a few. A series of events and incidents of betrayal and lies, forces them to be apart for a few years. In their coming back together, more secrets, lies, danger and risks happen, all in the name of love and vengeance.
Major plot twist happens and all is revealed in the second book. Past traumas haunt Ten and he is finally given the time and space to heal those hurts. He loves Scarlet so much that she is willing to let her go, just so that she is safe. Scarlet will have non of that. She loves Ren and believes that he is her only safe space. She will help him fight his demons and be there for him every step of the way. She may be young and inexperienced, but she shows a maturity and a wisdom that would suggest she’s lived a life.
They both have endured so much that you wonder if they’ll ever find the peace and calm and joy they deserve. HEA guaranteed.
I received a free ARC of this book. This review is only my opinion
This duet features our heroine, Scarlet, and our Hero, Ren, who happens to be her older brother, Quinton's best friend. She's crushed on him since she was a young girl, and somewhere along the way of being a protective "brother", he started to see her in a different way. But, because her father is the head of the mafia family, she's been off-limits...until they start sharing secret rendez-vous kisses in dark hallways. In Touch of Hate, Ren is trying to avenge things from his past that he holds Scarlet's father responsible for. When he escalates his revenge plot, he's forced on the run and disappears. Because he can't stand to be away from Scarlet, he sneaks her away from her family where they hide out in a remote cabin. She's angry at first, but finally gives into the love she holds for him. Just as she's getting comfortable in their fairy tale world, Ren suddenly reveals a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde personality swing, where he turns violent and mean. She eventually realizes she can't solve this on her own and manages to get away from Ren long enough to reach out to her head of the mafia dad, Xander Rossi. When Ren was still a child, he and his siblings were taken to a place, Safe Haven, where they were mentally and physically abused. At Safe Haven, he witnessed a tragedy that he continues to feel guilt over and has vowed revenge against those that continue to kidnap children for nefarious purposes. When her father and brother don't believe her story about Ren, Scarlet takes matters into her own hands and ends up in trouble again. Fortunately, Ren risks his own freedom to save her, and ends up imprisoned by her family. Scarlet's love and devotion to Ren convinces her family to get him the mental treatment he needs overcome his traumatic past. This is an intense story line that finally gives this couple the happily ever after they deserve. Loved the end and the added bonus epilogue!
Hate & Chaos is a duet set in the Corium U universe, including Touch of Hate and Touch of Chaos, respectively.
This is Ren and Scarlet's book, a very convoluted story about how it started, developed, strengthened and in the name of the deepest love will see its ties severed, even if temporarily. It's about connection, separation, fleeting trysts in the name of a promise, a long absence to get everything in place for the cause and to get the other half and the ultimate reconnection that will seal their love forever and how the cicle repeats itself, this time, for the unique cause ot saving someone form itself and find that place where their love will survive with no threats or mistrust.
The narrative flows steady, direct and furiously, even if at a slower pace, with a more intimate plotline and focused on character building as it had to be for the simple fact of where it leads. Scarlet was a surprise since I always saw her as soul aware of the family she was part of but pretty much untouched by its seedy side. People might think she cowered at times, for me, she was giving the benefit of the doubt to the boy, now man, she knew would always belong to and would belong to her as well. We might think that the cause and its foreseen attack would be the central point of this tale along with Scarlet and Ren as a couple after what he did, but IMO, those were just fireworks (despite the reality of Ren's past) to take us where it really mattered, to Ren's 'complex' character and how Scarlet dealt with it. A very interesting twist, that I started to suspect after they went to Reno and saw confirmed at the end of this first installment. Ingenious, smart and totally unexpected! I had wondered about Ren lots of times, but never in my imagination would I have gone there.
The second book picks up exactly where the previous one ended and, although as intense, the narrative goes into a more psychological and emotional exploration of Ren's past traumas, struggles and inner mayhem and the way Scarlet ends up entwined with it as well.
I loved the fact that, even though considered the fragile wallflower, Scarlet showed emotional strength, fierceness and perseverance supporting the boy she had always loved turned man fighting demons, unstable, rightly so, but one she wouldn't ever give up.
The family coming around and even Q and Aspen, depite all that went down, were a very nice touch of acceptance, pillar of empathy and will to help in the name of a love that never wavered and the love of a family that takes care of her own.
I absolutely loved this duet and after enduring so much, I was relieved our protagonists were able to get an HEA!

Because of his friend he can't have a relationship with her because it would be too dangerous and risky but Ren doesn't seem to mind the dangers and is prepare for the challenges. A lot of things is revealed in about Ren and why he's so twisted. Scarlet shows that she's not a wallflower and helps Ren with his mental health, physical and emotional health. I received an advanced copy of this book via Booksprout and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.
Touch of Hate I am not even sure if I have processed everything that I read in this book. Holy cow. You just need to do like me and go into this book blind. This is the story of Scarlet and Ren. She has been in love with him for as long as she can remember. She is one determined girl and will stop at nothing to make him hers. When she finally gets her chance, things don't go as she planned. Ren is one the run and one a mission and is about to betray her family the Rossi family. However shocked she is and no matter how hard she tries to move on she just cannot forget him. She is a girl stuck between her family and the man she knows she loves with her entire being. Two years have past and she still can't get over him He however is not the same person he once was. He is a man fighting his past and on a mission that he will not fail. However he can't get Scarlet off his mind.. I don't want to say anything else about this story. It will have you hooked
Touch of Chaos You will not be able to lay this book down once you pick it up. This is the conclusion to Ren and River and Scarlet. My heart broke for Ren. The help he needs , I can't go into details but man it was gut wrenching. Don't worry if you have been waiting for some revenge it is in this book and I was loving every single second of it. There is so much going on in this book and I fell like anything I say more is going to be a huge spoiler. Just get this book and dive in. I promise you won't be disappointed.
First off, I love that both books Hate and Chaos: The Complete Duet are together. I don’t have to wait for a next book! I do believe that Hate and Chaos are set in the Corium University series world. If you have read about Corium University you should check the series out. But only if you don’t have TW’s because there is a load of possible TW’s in that series as well as Hate & Chaos.
It is kind of funny that there was an author on Facebook, I can’t remember whom, but she was asking what kind of tropes we liked to read and one of the choices was a psychological thriller and I had said I don’t know if I have ever read one. Well, I have now!
This is Ren and Scarlet’s story. Ren had a horrible life growing up, he and his sister Luna. With that can come psych issues. I don’t want to go into detail because that could give some spoilers. Scarlet came from a protective mafia family. I loved that Scarlet had the backbone to stand up for what or who she believes in.
When I came to the end of Hate I had a panic moment but then remembered that I had the full book, and I didn’t have to worry that I would get the rest of the story at the end.
I very much enjoyed reading Hate & Chaos: The Complete Duet. It certainly kept me on my toes so to speak. I might have chewed on a few nails while reading this book too!
Touch of Hate is part one of a duo that ends on a cliffhanger. This series follows the Corium University series. It’s not required to read the Corium University series in order to understand this story, but I recommend checking it out since it was good.
Scarlett wants Ren but he’s her older brother’s friend. She is protected and this relationship poses its risks and dangers, but Ren is up to the challenge. Boundaries are crossed and doubt begins to set in. They have to now discover each other in a new light. This was a dark and twisted story that kept me hooked! Can’t wait to see what will happen next!
Touch of Chaos
Couldn’t wait to read Touch of Chaos after that cliffhanger in book one! It’s great to have this series in a set since book one and two are interconnected and both need to be read to get the whole picture.
Ren and Scarlet have a very interesting romance and of course Hallman’s books feature dark elements and troubled hero’s. This one is no exception! Twist, turns, angst and an intensity that keeps you wanting to keep reading til the end!
Great series and this is the best way to read Ren and Scarlet’s story because you have the entirety in one collection.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Ren Petrov and Scarlet Rossi- He is 4 years older. 🖤 FORBIDDEN LOVE 🖤 RIVALS-ENEMIES 🖤 JEALOUS/POSSESSIVE HERO
While this book is a standalone I don’t recommend you read it before starting with the Rossi Family series. Ren’s mood swings make him hard to like if you haven’t met him in the prior books. His brother River wants revenge for Safe Haven, a cult he was raised in where he was abused.
The story starts in a scene from the Corium trilogy we saw. Then skips to 2 years later. Scarlet is sweet, patient and understanding as she finally gets her love Ren, but at the cost of losing her family.
I felt there were a lot of plot holes. Ren was so protective of his sister Luna and should have a strong bond with his adopted parents. Why he wouldn’t speak to them about his revenge doesn’t make sense to me. Also, where is he getting money as he doesn’t seem to work. Scarlet not being upset Q almost died from Ren’s attack doesn’t seem realistic either, regardless of what good reason he may have 🤷🏽♀️
Since I am a fan of the series and characters I hope we get more from the other kids.
*Touch of Hate* by C. Hallman was an addictive read! Ren and Scarlett’s story is filled with tension, betrayal, and numerous unexpected twists. Ren is the perfect dark, morally complex character. Watching him struggle with his desire for revenge while also being drawn to Scarlett kept me completely engaged. Their chemistry is intense, showcasing that push-pull dynamic that I love in a dark romance. The story kept me on edge, and just when I thought I knew what would happen next, another twist emerged.
*Touch of Chaos* was an incredible follow-up to Ren and Scarlett’s story! The stakes were higher, and the tension between them was off the charts. I loved seeing their relationship evolve amid all the chaos and danger. Scarlett’s resilience and Ren’s darker, protective side truly shone in this installment. The twists kept coming, and just when I thought I had it figured out, C. Hallman threw in a curveball that had me glued to the pages.
This book is a duet - Hate is book 1 and Chaos is book 2. I didn't read Reign of Freedom prior to this duet but I could read the story but I will now go back and read it. I had so many questions and I hooked from the beginning. Scarlet is my hero.
This is a dark emotional book that may break you but it is so worth it! Scarlet and Ren really go through it all to be together with a few plot twists that will floor you. I wasn't ready but loved how this had a different twist on dark romance.
Their shared past in a crime family world tests Scarlet, who matures and holds her ground against Ren's manipulative brother, River. In book 2, Ren battles personal demons, with Scarlet by his side. The conclusion is powerful, exploring themes of trauma and mental illness with depth. A bonus epilogue provides a sweet end, making this duet an unforgettable emotional ride through love and survival.
There is a cliffhanger in book 1 and I wasn't sure I could handle reading more of the story in book 2 but I am so glad I did. Book 2 brought their story to an ending I loved.
“She is heaven-sent, and I’m never letting her go, even if I don’t deserve her. Giving in to my desires and my need for her is the only thing that fills my mind.”
“Scarlet is the last trace of humanity left inside me. The one good, true thing left in my otherwise bleak, dark, empty existence.”
This book was a 4 ⭐ read until THE BONUS EPILOGUE, I loved the ending and my mouth dropped and I loved it! This bumped it up to a 4.5 which rounds up to a 5 ⭐ read. 😮💕
This is the story of Ren & Scarlett, two characters head over heels for each other.
It starts with Touch of Hate and you explore the beginning of the relationship between the MCs, and learn all the backstory. You go through twists and turns that you never see coming and it leaves you on edge and not wanting to put it down.
The second book - Touch of Chaos - picks up right where the first left off. This one explained everything in so much detail and you ride the emotional ride of Scarlett along the way. I loved how strong and fearless she seemed to be through everything.
I enjoyed these two and loved the happy ending. Can’t wait to read the other character books and more from C. Hallman
This was a wild ride. Full of drama and intense characters. This is the next book featuring Ren and Scarlet. Ren is intense and dark, out for revenge but also rather complex as he’s been through the wringer! He betrays his best friend Quinton and his girl Aspen then he disappears only resurfacing on Scarlets birthday, she’s the only ray of sunshine who happens to be Quinton’s sister that makes him feel normal. Scarlet is rather naive and although told what Ren did to her family she still loves him and wants him. This story is tragic and dark, when the first book ends we are able to read book two as this is a duet. A great read.
A dark and twisted psychological duet set in the Corium University world and what a wild rollercoaster read it was. Full of twists, turns and intrigue this duet had me absorbed from the opening chapters. The anti-hero Ren is set on revenge and his actions and apparent betrayal of Quinton has left everyone shocked but especially Scarlett but shes not about to give up on him. His one redeeming feature is his feelings for Scarlett but what about River Scarlett was only supposed to be a means to an end, but could she turn out to be his salvation.
This duet can be read as a standalone but personally I’d recommend reading the Corium University series first
This is a complete duet, consisting of the titles Touch of Hate, and Touch of Chaos. This duet Is Ren and Scarlett’s journey. Ren is Scarlett’s older overprotective brothers’ best friend, whom she has crushed on for years. This is a well written dark and intense storyline, which is action packed, emotionally charged, and with angst, secrets, betrayal, revenge, family, friendships, danger, suspense, intrigue, challenges, trauma, chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, tragic, twisted, unpredictable, haunting, and addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
This is a second chance romance, with enemies to lovers and brother's best friend tropes. I really enjoyed Ren, he's a complicated character with many facets. He is really possessive but does love Scarlet and would do anything for her. I have not read the Corium University series and I know these characters were first introduced sometime in that series. Even though you don't have to read those books first, it probably would've flowed better for me if I had. So maybe I will go back to read those. Still a great duet either way. This is a wild, dark, intense story with many twists and plot turns.
This is a two book series combined in one, “Touch Of Hate” and “Touch Of Chaos”.❤️ Wow this book is awesome!! Had me on my seat the whole time I was reading it. A dark, intense, graphic, psychological thriller that’s romantic, suspenseful, tragic, split personality, revengeful and forgiving. So much, did I mention dark😉? We have our main character’s Ren and Scarlet. Her family, his and an evil place called SAFE HAVEN. Bad things happened there. Bringing forth River. Just trust me, this is a must read! Run don’t walk and get this book!.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Wow! I absolutely loved this duet. Amazing characters and wonderful plot. Very beautifully written and easy to read.
I loved Ren and Scarlet’s chaotic love story. Ren is complicated and misunderstood character. I loved to see his growth and to understand him better.
He was so different with Scarlet, than with others. Scarlet is his anchor and his strength. Their story is messy and complicated but oh so beautiful and it was very interesting to read.
Overall I loved this duet very much. If you’re looking for a dark mafia romance then you’re going to love it.
“She is heaven-sent, and I’m never letting her go, even if I don’t deserve her. Giving in to my desires and my need for her is the only thing that fills my mind.”
Scarlet + Ren. I loved the idea of the plot. Scarlet annoyed me as a character in some parts. Overall, a good read and I would read more from C. Hallman in the future. The duet had good character growth and the storyline progressed well. Better read than audiobook though.
“Scarlet is the last trace of humanity left inside me. The one good, true thing left in my otherwise bleak, dark, empty existence.”
Awesome series!! I love that it includes the characters of the King of Corium series. The storyline follows the relationship of Ren and Scarlett plus adding River to the mix. This is a twisted story of revenge and a strange love. Ren/River are out for revenge on the people who harmed them when they were young. Many secrets will be revealed. This will keep you on your toes wondering and guessing what will happen next. The ending has you wondering if maybe there will be more. Can't wait to see.. I absolutely love this author. Her work is amazing.
What the actual Sam hell…. I can’t spoil it but I sure as heck didn’t expect my suspicion to be right. Ren and Scar yikes. For the Q & A fans they make appearances. As everyone tries to figure out to deal with Ren/River. Then Ren comes to grip to what is going with him and River. Then the whole situation surrounding what happened when he was younger. He and Scar have to go through alot to get their HEA. I’m glad Q and Ren got closure.
Ren and Scarlet's story is a dark and twisted roller coaster ride and it is a captivating read. I loved that we got the complete duet and the epilogue was the cherry on top. The great writing and captivating characters that had intense chemistry made this a page turning read. Make sure you set aside time to read Hate & Chaos because you are not going to put it down until the final page. I can't wait to read the next book by this talented author. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
This was so dark and I ate it up. I loved that both of the books were connected because 1 ends on a cliffhanger and I could not wait to read the second one right away.
The characters were fascinating, the setting was interesting, and the plot kept me up. I loved the romance in this book and the way the characters interacted with each other.
Thank you to the author and Literally Yours PR for an arc!
4.5🌟 2.5 🌶 I loved every Chapter. I did suspect the twist, but that's likely bc I read the Corium series first. Seeing the way Ren and Scarlet finally find their path to each other- definitely a twisty ride. While I did read Corium prior to this, you can read this duet on it's own. The bonus content was fun too!
Hate and Chaos is the Complete Duet which contains Touch of Hate and Touch of Chaos.
This is a darker story with some darker themes and elements, so please read the TW. This was a jam packed duet. There were a lot of twists and turns which kept me riveted from beginning to end. I enjoyed the relationship between Scarlet and Ren.
This duet was so good! I was riveted from the start. Ren & Scarlet's story is not for the faint at heart. I love a brother's best friend romance, and C. Hallman took this story and twisted it, which I loved. The suspense, secrets and darker aspects kept me reading for a few days. Highly recommend. I received an advance review copy from LYPR, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
