This is a very interesting book with one of the most original plots that I've read. There are so many twists and turns that I couldn't keep up with which way the story was going to go next! Julia is very likable character and I kept rooting for her because I wanted just one thing to go right in her life and Chris is every girl's fairytale boyfriend but better. I don't want to give away any plot details but this is definitely a MUST READ!

My only complaint is that the language at the beginning of the book was a little stilted and there were some typos but they are easily overlooked in favor of the amazing storyline. :)

Books was received in exchange for review.

Masquerade can be a party at which people wear masks and often costumes. Julia, at age 15, attends a Masquerade Ball in Venice, Italy. Taking after her mother, Julia learned to appreciate the arts an a young age. That masquerade ball left a lasting impression on Julia as she hung the mask on her wall in her room. Little did she know...

Masquerade can also be a way of appearing or behaving that is not true or real. This is a fitting title for this book. Things or people are never as they appear. "Wearing a mask gives people the ability to pretend to be whom they've always wanted to be but have never had the nerve to pursue." As you read this story, you see that that line has powerful meaning in the story.

The story opens when Julia turns 18, her senior year in high school. She literally runs into her neighbor, Mrs. Colton's, grandson, Jason, who was sent to live with his grandma. As the story progresses you will learn the reason why Jason moved in with Mrs. Colton. Jason and Julia get close and become boyfriend and girlfriend. They have sex. Then Jason disappears. His parents send him away. Julia learns of his departure without having the chance to say goodbye and goes after him, back to his house in Atlanta, GA. Her drive home will change her direction in life forever altering her future.

The story continues about two years later. We learn of Julia's struggles in life to fit in and become like everyone else her age, even going to college. Life is evil, throwing some nasty curve balls at Julia forcing her to deal with some serious life struggles. Then she meets Alan, a man that loves her and cares for her but has his plate full already. While I waited for the "shoe to drop" with Alan, he appears to be honorable and a genuine, good guy. But he has his issues which force Julia and Alan's friend Chris, to go out more and more. Chris and Julia get close, yes, you see it coming too right? Ah, but remember the title? Masquerade...you will find yourself questioning who Alan and Chris really are. Is Julia who she says SHE is? All the answers will be revealed, just keep reading. Who does Julia end up with? Chris? Alan? And what does she learn as the story progresses? Can she put the puzzle together?

I am being very careful not to tell TOO much of the story so I don't spoil the plot. Some parts of the story are predictable and some will blindside you. The story takes place over a large period of time starting when Julia is 15 and taking her to a few years after college graduation. We see her grow up and handle some very adult situations at an early age.

Julia interacts with Jason, Alan and Chris in this book. Sometimes the scenes were romantic and sensual and sometimes the scenes seemed a little too robotic to me, the characters moved rather quickly and abruptly. Some sex scenes were hot and sexy and some seemed awkward and uncomfortable to me. Maybe that was the perception the author wanted to portray with the characters at that time.

Throughout the story there was a sense of mystery and suspense with the characters. Just when you thought you knew the characters, the "real" story comes out more and more as the story progresses. I was certain I knew how the story would end and I was surprised. There are so many twists and turns that it makes giving specific details hard without giving the story away and I do not want to deprive you of that pleasure. Read it and see if you too start to put the puzzle together in your head and will your puzzle look like the author's at the end of the story? The mask does come off at the end and all things will be revealed. Julia can hang the mask back on the wall. She has come a long way and deserves to find happiness. But does she when the cards are all on the table, laid out in front of her? Find out for yourself.

We all hide behind a mask of sorts but when a naive Julia attends her first masquerade ball in Venice none the less at the tender age of 15, she has her eyes opened to the world that she and her family reside in. She has learnt from her mother even at her tender age how to appreciate the finer things in life.

So when this young girl returned from the ball and proudly hung her mask on her wall, she could have no idea what and where her future would like and what mask she would have to wear to get through it.

Life teaches tough lessons namely that things are not always what they seem, people are good at building up defences and barriers that prevent you from seeing what they truly are and what their motive is.

Julia will learn this all too well and it is an ethos to bear in mind while reading the book.

The story flits around a bit in the beginning, dropping in and out of Julia’s life. Following the ball we jump forward to Julia’s senior year in high school. We get a snapshot of a fleeting romance with Jason the young guy next door before he vanishes from her life, almost as quickly as he appeared. Safe to say that following her attempt to track him down, she is life is irrevocable altered.

Next we pick up with her two years later and she is trying to fit in at college. Once bitten and twice shy, we are guided through Julia’s trials and tribulations as she struggles to keep herself on an even keel.

All that changes when she meets Alan and as much as I have to say that I liked Alan, I was reluctant to fully commit to him, I just couldn’t put my finger on what it was but I had a reservation that wouldn’t leave me alone. I suppose I was looking at the twists and turns that were following Julia and struggling to make sense of them and his place in her life.

When Chris entered the picture I couldn’t help but get the feeling that it had all become a little too muddied.

I mean Chris and Alan were friends, and I didn’t want a convoluted situation for Julia, I just wanted her to have her happy ever after and I couldn’t see where it was going to come from. But then again, was Julia playing them at their own game and hiding her true feelings?

The story is a minefield of twists and turns and deception. Just as you feel you have a handle on what is going on the goalposts are moved and everything is turned on its head. But the only thing that kept me turning the pages was the fact that I wanted, no scratch that I needed to know Julia’s fate, what could and would she discover and how would that impact her.

This was a book that will have you scratching you head and trying to decide not only if you have actually made sense of the plot but if you like the characters involved, the author wrote some difficult situations and introduced some characters that required absolute attention as you read their story but that was a positive in my book, this was not a flighty read, it required my concentration and in that respect I found it was a good read.

I would recommend this to anyone but would give the proviso that you need to have the opportunity to concentrate, so make time, to give the book the time and consideration requires

*** I Love Story Time was gifted an ARC in exchange for an honest review ***

3.5 Stars!

At first it was hard to get into this story because of the format that my ARC came in. It was a little distracting and I am not sure if that is why I felt I couldn't connect with the story. As I kept reading, I was able to pass over the distractions and start to enjoy the storyline. I understand that ARC's are not the final copy, but if the format that is sent out is a little confusing, it takes away from the book.

Now...for the story. It was good. I enjoyed the storyline and was into it trying to figure out all the twist and turns that were taking place. There were also some secrets that were going on that eventually came out and all my questions were answered. The dreams that Julia had that brought all the loose ends together, were written well. There was one thing that took place that I wish didn't happen the way it did, but considering the circumstances, and the events that were going on a that particular time, I guess I can understand. I just felt that Alan deserved so much more. With that being said, I was torn on Alan's character at times. I couldn't tell if he was a good guy or if he was really lying when it came to all the times he had to leave.

As a whole, I did enjoy Masquerade. This was my first book by this author and I will continue to read more that she comes out with. However, I do hope that in the future the ARC's are a little better. So, if you are looking for a good easy read, this would be the book for you! I was nice to read a light story that had you guessing how things would come out. I will be looking forward to more books S.N. Williams in the future!

Mesmerized at the ball with her parents Julia Falls is captivated by the art in Italy, She wonders what the people are hiding behind the masks? Of course people hide for different reasons. "I wonder if we all, in some way or form don't always wear masks on purpose, or if they are put on us for a reason".

Julia Falls loves art and ready to start school is reminiscing about her time in Italy, with her parents looking at her mask puts her at ease.
When she literally runs into Mrs. Colton's grandson Jason who she can't stop staring at him. Wow! They start getting to know each other and soon it becomes more. The two have a "Lovewirlwind romance": two best friends in love with each other sharing everything. He was always there when she needed him."

Jason Colton was there to take care of his grandmother until he met Julia Falls and fell fast and hard for her. He was happy the feelings were mutual.

When things tore them apart Julia was deavstated, she couldn't accept what she was hearing. Now off to college she meets Alan, however his best friend Chris keeps stepping in to take care Julia, only because Alan asks him. So now Julia and Chris become very close. Best friends in fact.

Watch what happens and the battle they embark on, the Masquerade of wonders behind each choice we make. There is a reason. It may be just to protect the ones we love. You will see.

You don't want to miss out on this book. heartwarming, really and truly It will grab your heart, make you cry, stun you. Laugh too. Emotions will take you on a journey.

This is my second book by SN Williams and I truly loved second of this book. She is a fabulous author. Really knows how to get your emotions going.

I have to start off saying I found myself having a lump in my throat a few times but don't let that put you off.

This book also made me think that we all wear masks every day to a extend.

Anyway onto the review. We meet Julia who lives at home with her parent's. Mrs Colton is a elderly woman who lives next door. Her grandson is sent to live with her and starts hanging out with Julia they become boyfriend and girlfriend before Jason's dad decides to take Jason away from Julia without any notice. This leads to Julia feeling upset and confused but find a out where Jason has been taken and decides to drive to see him and get answers but in the drive there Julia's life changes forever.

We fast forward 2 years and Julia is in college and with a boy called Alan who loves her but has family problems with his sister so Julia is often left out in the cold whilst Alan deals with his sister. Alan enlists his good friend Chris to look after Julia and take her out when Alan deals with his sister. It is Chris who is there for her when her parent's die in a car accident and she suddenly has to become her little sister's parent. Lucy her little sister is a cute adorable little girl.

I was not expecting the ending to this book and not only leaves you wanting more it also makes you ask questions like who is Chris? Whatever happened to Jaso? And who is Julia

I cannot wait to read more from this author

I was given a copy of this book for an honest review.

Admittedly it's been a few weeks since I finished this book and I'm just now getting around to writing my review so it may be a little scattered.

Masquerade is Julia's story. At 18 she meets her first love and falls head over hills. Then she has an accident and awakes from a coma two years later with no memory of her past. She goes off to college, meets Alan and falls for him. She also meets another guy, Jason and they become the very best of friends. After years of being just friends and feeling a bit abandoned at times by Alan Julia finds herself falling in love with Jason.

Then her parents are killed in a car crash and she's left to raise her little sister on her own.

Then the twists and turns come. Julia starts to remember her past. She has dreams and begins counseling to help her remember.

I'll leave out the spoilers but I liked the ending. Up until I got to the end I was really feeling this book at all. I had to put too much thought into it! It seemed to skip a round a good bit and I had a couple of "what?" moments.

It all comes together in the end though but still not enough to make me give it more stars.

I was given an ARC for my honest review.
Ok Julia throughout the story is learning life isn’t just a walk in the park. The story starts her as a young girl and brings you to her college years where she meets Alan and Chris. This story has you second guessing yourself at every turn. Right when you think you have what is going to happen a new twist happens to having you shaking you head and saying WTF. This isn’t a fast read and you must have time to be able to get the entire story and for this is why it is a 3 start review for me. I have kids and had to keep putting the book down and then had to reread some to be able to connect at times. If you have a lot of time to dedicate your entire concentration on the story without distractions then this is a story for you. It wasn’t a bad story you just need to be able to 100% stay connected or you can get lost.

Julia Falls is starting her senior year in high school and has a bright future ahead of her, when she meets Jason her future gets even brighter, but before she can start college a car accident claims her memory. When she wakes she has a spotty memory of her past and a new little sister Lucy. Julia is able to put her accident behind her and head off to college, but shortly after her college graduation another tragedy befalls her and she will wonder about everything she knows and thinks she knows. I liked Julia she is warm and loving and truly wants to do the right thing even if she isn't sure what that might be. Lucy is sweet and childish yet unexpectedly wise as children often are. I felt for both of them as events unfolded and I admired Julia for her pursuit of the truth about her past.

Julia Falls is a normal teenager, she is loved by her parents, plans to go to college to pursue her art degree, and she falls in love with the boy next door. All of this becomes lost to Julia when she awakens from a coma. Continuing her life after the accident, Julia feels like she is living her life behind one of her beloved masquerade masks, her true self remaining hidden. On the evening of her college graduation Julia's life once again takes a drastic turn. Will Julia ever be able to find the key to unlocking her memories? Will she ever be able to remove her mask?

This is the perfect start to a series. I can't wait for the next book, and to see where Julia and her story goes.

I was given a copy of this book for an honest review. It started off great and I was rooting for Julia and Jason and then Jason left! Julia was in a car accident, coma for 1 1/2 years and when she wakes up she has a little sister, or does she? I was liking this book until her parents got killed in a car accident. I absolutely do not read sad books. I have enough sadness in my life that I read to escape that. So, I just skipped through that part and honestly, almost quit reading it. I'm glad I stuck with it because S.N. Williams redeemed herself as the story went on and towards the end...HOLY SMOKES...what a twist!!! A really good book and I would have given 5 stars if it wasn't for her parents dying.

This story had a great premise. There was joy, heartbreak and twists throughout.

However, the sentences seemed short and choppy. There was a lot of “I” sentences and I found myself focusing on how many times the word “I” was used as apposed to getting lost in the story. Because of this, I didn’t find myself attached to the characters and couldn’t feel the emotions of the book that are there.

There are plenty of other reviews praising this book so it could be that it is just me. As mentioned, the story idea is really good and definitely different from other books I have read.
