The Diary of Gilbert Blythe imagines what the childhood and adolescence of the male protagonist from Anne of Green Gables could have been like. Closely following L.M. Montgomery's original plot, the Diary is a faithful retelling of the famous story — but now through Gilbert's point of view, delving into his family, friends, inspirations, dreams, and insecurities, and, of course, the development and growth of Gilbert's feelings for the lovable little redhead, Anne.
Very canon compliant book in Gilbert's POV. I love it and I want to read the next two one soon!
Only problem I have is the diary format. I have to suspend my disbelief that a teenage boy can write a)a diary and b) this eloquently. There are also some areas where it doesn't feel like it's written as a diary entry.
I love Anne of Windy Poplars and I wanted more personality on how Gilbert writes his diary like how Anne vents to him about her feud with the Pringles.
