In this shattering series conclusion, CIA Librarian Jayne Thorne faces a god who has brought magic to its knees. Her final battle will require more than courage, more than power—it will demand an impossible choice.
After Odin's devastating victory, the magical world lies in ruins. Libraries burn. Grimoires turn to ash. The TCO is devastated. And Jayne Thorne, the librarian who once protected both magic and memory, stands alone among the wreckage—those she loves lost to the Torrent, her lover, and her Rogue beyond her reach.
As Odin's malevolent power grows and his army of Wraiths tightens its grip on the mortal realm, Jayne’s last hope lies in the World Tree, where the Norns weave the threads of destiny. With her dragon Hayden beside her, Jayne must navigate the Tree's treacherous paths to reach these ancient Fates. Only they can bestow the Time Totem—the power to unravel time itself. But the Norns' trials are legendary, designed to break both body and spirit, and they do not grant their gifts lightly.
Joss Walker is an award-winning fantasy author and the alter ego of New York Times bestselling thriller author J.T. Ellison. Through her fantasy works, Joss delves into her passion for the genre and crafts stories of extraordinary women discovering their power in the world. With the creation of Jayne Thorne, CIA Librarian, Joss brings you a captivating contemporary fantasy series that appeals to lovers of books, libraries, romance, and, of course, magic.
This is the book that I anticipated when the series first started, the conclusion to a riveting series that captivated my imagination and helped me to enjoy fantasy. Jayne Thorne is at the center of the story and in all of the important battle scenes, as is her beloved and very pregnant sister Sophia. The two of them face their greatest enemy, the AllFather Odin, who wants to control all magic and destroy what they have built. Jayne and her allies use magic for the good of the world while Odin wants the power, no matter the cost. One adventure after another, constant danger and the threat of losing the loves of their lives keep Jayne and Sophia focused on the task at hand. The action is relentless and compellingly realistic, even in a world of magic with some very different weapons. The characters are thoroughly developed and relatable, as the protagonists are fighting for the future of their world and giving the fight all they have. I really liked the Rogue character, Hayden, who accompanies Jayne everywhere and uses snark and wit to keep her focus on what is really important. The battle scenes are epic and should be on the movie theater screen since they played vividly in my mind as I read the book. This is the conclusion of a series, so I highly recommend that readers read each book in order to get the whole story, but it may be enjoyed as a standalone since the author does a fabulous job of giving enough of the backstory to make new readers comfortable. Disclaimer: I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review, and all opinions expressed are my own.
How excited was I for this, the final book in this series? That loud screech you heard, that was me! I loved the premise of this series from the very first book, I loved the story, I loved the characters and I sure as heck loved the twists and turns throughout the series! Safe to say, I loved this entire series. This book opens with a cool prologue to whet the appetite and immediately get a surprise. Not only is this from Odin's perspective, it's WHO ELSE is there, what's at stake.... so many paths taken on this journey, I couldn't have predicted which one was going to appear next. These characters are awesome, whether it's Jayne or Sofia, Henry or Aleksandra, Vivienne or Tristan, Cillian or Trinity, Amanda, Rugus, the kids, they all offer a glimpse into what one would resort to, what one would sacrifice for those they love.
Jayne and crew are licking their wounds after a mammoth battle went south, very south....but they're alive, they aren't ready to throw in the towel just yet. I really love the way this author infuses magical abilities, almost as though they were a normality, so seamlessly fitting into the story, I CAN believe it's real... There's a chance, slim as it might appear, for Jayne to set things right, except, it's rather crowded in her head with all the totems she was gifted and she discovers the goddesses she bonded with ain't gonna cut it, nope, she needs another totem... And so starts a mad dash to find it, but it's... challenging, so many things have happened, so many unexpected events took place, so many people fell by the wayside... and the worst of it isn't just the imminent battle with Odin and his lackey's, it's the division Jayne faces from forces who should be on her side, the side that wants to save not only the Torrent but the people who've been caught up unintentionally. Henry, oh lordie, Henry is the epitome of the mad scientist, he "does" without knowing the consequences but as impetuous as he is, his heart is in the right place, his actions however... yeah... MAJOR consequences!
This series is very underrated, the full cast (and it's a VERY full cast!) has a pivotal role, each cast member distinct, each cast member adds their own twist to this story. I loved both Jayne and Sofia from the onset, I was like a junkie following their every move and boy oh boy were there MANY moves! Their characters grew throughout the series, their magic grew throughout the series, their relationships grew throughout the series. But.... with Cillian... indisposed...there is more at stake than finding the totem, there is more at stake at stopping Odin and his very neferious schemes. So, needless to say, I was twisted up in knots, my pulse racing in tune with the pacing, until I was finally able to let out a huge sigh of relief, a huge sigh of contentment at the end of the book. This is an incredible story, brought to a mega climax, magical beings, non magical humans, beasts and sceptics alike, rallying together, even calling on goddesses who don't respond in their time of need, the why was so illuminating! Geez is Trinity a whiz kid, so freaking talented but I shed a tear, her genius move demanded a sacrifice no one envisaged. I swear, in that final battle with Odin and just after, I thought, ok, that's it! So many sacrifices and I was none the wiser where it would end up but flip, I was stunned at WHERE the story ended up!!!!
Ms Walker has outdone herself, she kept throwing the punches, I kept absorbing them, not knowing which way to lean to escape them but heck, let me tell you, instead of writhing in pain from the blows, every blow made me more immersed, every blow drew out every emotion in me, every blow felt... fitting! This was action packed hairy from start to finish. A river of magic, timeline manipulation, goddesses, guardians and whole lot of excitement! This was a magnificent conclusion to a magnificent series!
As Odin Allfather continues his battle, gaining more power over the Rogues and plunging them into the Torrent, he unleashes his Wraiths to swoop down on the people. His determination to rule once more seems on the verge of reaching success; his malevolent desires seemingly within his reach.
But Jayne Thorne is contemplating time travel. Can she find the way to defeat Odin Allfather and save the magic realm? Or are they all doomed?
=========
In this, the sixth and final book in the series, CIA Librarian Jayne Thorne faces Odin Allfather in a final showdown. The magic world is all but destroyed; grimoires have become ashes, the Torrent Control Organization has been shattered.
And Jayne is determined to find a way to defeat Odin Allfather and restore the magical realm.
Strong world-building, believable characters, and a captivating story filled with magic and adventure all work together to pull the reader into the telling of the tale from the outset. With all the expected characters in place and sufficient backstory for those new to the series, readers are sure to find themselves turning pages as fast as possible as Jayne’s adventure keeps them spellbound.
This final chapter in the series, like the earlier works, brings a sharp focus on magic, friendship, and love to the unfolding story. Readers who enjoy the fantasy realm will find much to appreciate in this unputdownable epic fantasy tale.
Highly recommended.

I received an ARC from the author but wasn’t required to post a review. This is my honest, voluntary reaction and impression after reading this book.
I have read and enjoyed this series and started this one knowing it would be the final one in the series. It didn’t take long to get sucked into the conflicts and intrigue and adventures once again!
Joss has crafted a series everyone ought to read! The characters are ones you will identify with as well as their conflicts! The series will keep you turning the pages long into the night because you won’t want to put it down- you just want to see what happens next!
The battle between good and evil reaches the climax and magic explodes from both sides! Jayne discovers that she still needs one more totem to hope to defeat Odin but in so doing it just may cost her more than she originally thought. Help comes from unexpected sources and she experiences profound loses along the way!
It’s a nail biting, adrenaline fueled read that you really won’t want it to end even though you know it will!
I wholeheartedly and enthusiastically recommend that you get and read this entire series for without the background of the previous books, this book though exciting will not mean much to you not knowing what went on before! The characters are just too complex and interwoven that without that previous knowledge you will never know them and what brought them all together in the first place!
Definitely don’t miss out on getting this amazing series and diving in to read all about Jayne Thorne, Librarian!
J.T. Ellison is a terrific writer no matter what name she is writing under. I was super excited when I found the first Jayne Thorne story to see J.T. branching off into fantasy and paranormal but underneath the story is her amazing writing style that pulled me in years ago. Jayne is an interesting character having grown so much from book one through this book which must be read after reading the others. The world building is spectacular bringing modern life and magic together with a none (yet unknown) figure from Norse mythology. Many of us are probably familiar with Oden from other tales but in this one he takes on a role full of darkness allowing our author to make him her own character. Jayne has prepared for this final battle and grown stronger both with her magic and as a person since book 1. The conclusion is beautifully done but there is one small problem, I hate thinking this is it from Jayne's world. I would advise anyone unfamiliar with this tale to go back to book 1 and read all stories in the tale including the novellas that set up Jayne's family lore. While this is not traditional J.T. Ellison fare in the truest sense, it is in terms of being a great book. Thanks to NetGalley and Two Tales Press | Independent Book Publishers Association (IBPA), Members' Titles for the opportunity to read this ARC
And with this book we get an ending to what has been a fantastic, magically filled adventure with Jayne Thorne and her friends and family in the TCO working to save the world from the vengefulness of Odin, the allfather, the mightiest god. In this book we really get the ending we must have all been rooting for, though right up to the end it didn't seem to be possible, as Odin is a mighty strong foe and he had an army of wraiths and others to fight for him. However he was not prepared for a battle such as the one he was forced to face at the end against Jayne. Jayne had the use of all the goddesses totems, and she had the power granted to her by the fates to time travel, however without a solid plan, and some who were ready to sacrifice their own lives, the battle would nave never been won. I love that Ms. Walker ties up all loose ends so nicely at the end giving us a time to breath after the rush of the massive battles, and all the time hopping that went on, and that we got to meet Trinity, even of it was not yet her time to show up. This is a great series were we got to see Jayne grow and mature not only in her thoughts but also in her powers, from a simple librarian to become one of the strongest guardians of the torrent, it is a series I highly recommend.
Scrolls of Time is book 6 of the Jayne Thorne, CIA Librarian. This is the final book of the series and wraps up the storylines for many characters introduced throughout the series. Unfortunately for me, I didn’t realize that this book cannot be read as a standalone. Having not read the previous books, I was rather lost for the first 50 pages but continued reading since I was given the privilege of reading this ARC. After about 100 pages I was able to enjoy the book after getting past references to prior events covered in previous books. Jayne has to travel through time in an effort to save her current world and her lover from Odin and his army of Wraiths. I highly recommend starting with Book 1 since this magical world is better explained as it’s revealed to Jayne in the proper order. Since I did enjoy book 6 eventually, for readers who have read the previous books in the series, I believe you will appreciate the conclusion to this series. I do plan to go back and start with book 1 since the preview looks very promising.
This ending was both amazing, but also kinda exhausting. The series started out with such a simple, badass, premise. Save the world through books. By the end, could barely recognize it as the same series. Still a good series, don't get me wrong, but I wasn't aware I was going for yet ANOTHER chosen one story. However, I'm rounding up to five stars for two reasons. First, MYTHOLOGY EVERYWHERE. That's an instant way to my heart. Second, THANK YOU for giving unlabeled multiple perspectives and just trusting we could keep up with it. Hate when authors feel the need to spoon feed their audiences with labeling perspectives despite sentences starting out with nouns.
5-stars for a hugely inventive, enjoyable, and complex series. I do recommend starting with book 1, there is a LOT of intense magic theory and planning that occurs in each book. The books all build upon each other and provide the next step in the process. Plenty of action and even some romance too. This book will close out the series and it provides a satisfying ending with plenty of closure.
Book 6 of the series brings us to the conclusion of Jayne Thorne's adventures. As with the rest of the series, Ms. Walker gives us plenty of edge of your seat action, with indepth characters, and great world building. It is sad to see this story end, but I will be looking for more to read from this author.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This has been a really excellent series. Always something going on with great characters. Jayne is an interesting character still trying to defeat Odin and save everyone. As always great worldbuilding. This will be enjoyed by those who enjoy mystery and fantasy. Thanks Netgalley and the publisher.
A satisfying ending to the series. And maybe another series in the works? Note that there are a number of instances of the D word, reference to a gay couple, and one steamy scene. This is why it got 4 instead of 5 stars. I received a free copy of this book, with no obligation.
Jayne and her friends are finally going to face off with Odin, and this time it will be for the world. Such a great ending to the series. There are some big twists and turns and surprises, but I'm sure everyone will like the way it all wrapped up.
We’ve laughed, loved, cried, and fought alongside the incredible Jayne Thorn for 6 books. This was a perfectly executed ending to an incredible fantasy series.
This was a fantastic finale for the Jayne Thorne, CIA Librarian series! The characters, battles, and magic are unique and well written. Travel with Jayne in this last book as she seeks to defeat Odin, the mightiest god.
In The Scrolls of Time, Joss Walker delivers a breathtaking conclusion to the Jayne Thorne, CIA Librarian series—an emotional, time-twisting finale that blends mythology, magic, and sacrifice in epic fashion.
After Odin’s devastating victory, the magical world lies in ruins. Libraries smolder, ancient grimoires are reduced to ash, and the once-trusted TCO has collapsed. Jayne Thorne, long a protector of both magic and memory, finds herself standing alone amid the wreckage. Her only hope: to travel through the World Tree in search of the Norns, the Fates who weave destiny itself. If they grant her access to the Time Totem, she may yet be able to change the course of fate—but only by passing a series of legendary trials that test not just her power, but her spirit.
Walker masterfully interlaces high fantasy and Norse myth with a modern, emotionally grounded narrative. Jayne is no longer the hesitant librarian readers first met—she’s become a battle-scarred warrior, hardened by loss, and determined to save what remains. The philosophical weight of time and destiny gives the story a deeper resonance, as Jayne must decide not only whether she can change the past, but whether she should.
This is not a standalone book—you’ll need the full series to truly appreciate the stakes and emotional payoff. But for longtime readers, the conclusion is sweeping and satisfying, rich with callbacks, earned triumphs, and the kind of bittersweet resolution that lingers long after the final page.
Verdict: A triumph of imagination and heart, The Scrolls of Time is a beautifully crafted, emotionally resonant finale that cements the Jayne Thorne series as a standout in urban fantasy.
This was such an amazing end to an amazing series. I've been with Jayne from the very beginning and this has become a favorite series of mine. Reading this end was so bitter sweet. I wasn't prepared for it to end yet, but I couldn't put it down. This is a series I'll revisit in the future.
