Colliding Through Time is a new adult time travel fantasy and is the second book in the Lizzie Alexander's Adventures Through Time series.
Although I haven’t read book one, I picked up on time travel theme enough to follow the tale.
The story opens with a group of college friends who travel back home for Christmas. Unfortunately they are involved in a multiple vehicle road accident before they reach their destination. The story then continues with a series of time travel incidents where each of the friends discovers a relative in that particular setting and must work out their purpose in each scenario.
Interspersed with the time travelling are Lizzie’s flashbacks to events from more recent times. Eventually everything comes full circle, and the story returns to the friends setting off home for the Christmas break.
The time travelling became quite the history lesson with settings far and wide across time and the globe. The friends interacted with characters that they met in each setting, frequently with gruesome results. These scenes were often over very quickly and I would have been just as happy with fewer time jumps but more depth and interaction to each one.
Although this book is aimed at new adults, I felt that the storyline style would just as easily fit into the young adult market.
Colliding Through Time pulls Lizzie Alexander and her friends back into the chaos of time travel after a life-changing accident, and it doesn’t hold back. As a sequel to Arriving Through Time, it raises the stakes, exploring deeper themes of family history, friendship, and self-discovery, all set against the fascinating backdrop of ancient Greece. This time around, Lizzie and her crew face everything from natural disasters to eerie encounters with their ancestors, and the tension between them adds even more layers to their story.
One thing I loved is how this book connects so well to the first while still standing strong on its own. The return of the mysterious blue light is such a cool tie-in, and focusing on Cara’s family history brings a fresh perspective to the group’s journey. You can really feel the relationships growing as they deal with unresolved issues from the last book, which makes the stakes feel even higher.
That said, the pacing could use a little tweaking—some parts linger longer than needed, while others fly by too quickly. But overall, it’s a solid follow-up that fans of Arriving Through Time will appreciate. It’s the perfect pick for young adult and historical fiction readers who enjoy a mix of suspense, adventure, and heartfelt moments.
If you enjoyed the first book, you’re in for another wild ride with this one!
I loved the first book in this series, Arriving Through Time, following the time-travel adventures of Lizzie Alexander and friends. The second book of her/their adventures was as good if not better than the first! Lizzie and her friends are in college now and go back home for the Christmas holidays, but a sudden car accident sends them back in time to faraway places, meeting ancestors and encountering tense situations that kept me reading page after page.
As a historical fanatic, I especially appreciate this series' historical accuracy, and it's made even more special knowing the author's own travel experience gives the books deeper authenticity. I look forward to another adventure and recommend the series!
