Clinical and rational, forensic pathologist Margo Nolan is wholly unprepared for sudden parenthood when she is named guardian to a tween that she once loved as a daughter. Struggling to balance her professional life against sudden parenthood, Margo is at a loss of how to reach out to her ‘daughter’ Emma. Complicating matters is the sexy doctor-next-door Jamie Gillespie.
Jamie Gillespie volunteered to step in as village doctor for his uncle—in part as a favor to the older man and in part to stick it to his father’s ambitions. The last thing he expected was to meet the tough and seemingly cold Margo, but he can’t ignore his attraction for the woman or his need to help her out.
The question is—can Jamie overcome Margo’s reticence and build a proper life together or will she let old fears and prejudices keep the sexy village doctor at arm’s length?
Warning: Contains a thoroughly British sensibility and humor, as well as a charming doctor and tween angst…
From always choosing the storytelling option in English & French classes to sneaking a Mills&Boon romance under the desk at school, Zee went on to make a career out of writing the kind of emotional romances all young girls junk on.
Her Mauritius and Indian-based romances have all the classic makings of Bollywood-type drama: overbearing mothers, matchmaking aunties, ‘proper’ eligible suitors who look like frogs, race & class divides. Travel to the UK (London, Surrey, & North Yorkshire), and you meet people—young and more mature—struggling to find ‘The One’ amid the drudgery of day-to-day life, never mind if they’re a simple graphic designer working from home, a world-renowned supermodel battling anorexia, or a reluctant heiress on the run. Take to the Corpus Agency mantle, and become lethal spies & assassins who nevertheless feel the call of love in their dark and shady lives…
A Muslim of Indian origin & a 2x breast cancer survivor, Zee lives in paradise (aka Mauritius!) with her long-suffering husband, their smart-mouth teenage son, and their tabby cat who thinks herself a fearsome feline from the nearby African Serengeti plains. When she isn’t in her kitchen rolling out chapattis or baking cakes while singing along to the soundtrack of Glee, she can be found reading or catching up on her numerous TV show addictions. In her day job, she is an editor who helps other authors like her hone their works and craft.
Earlier this year I read Zee Monodee’s Edge of Danger, and found it to be a wonderful read. I wanted more of the author’s work. Initially, I’d planned to dive into the rest of the Corpus Agency series; however, when the chance came to read Prescription for Love I was happy to dive in.
Prescription for Love is the first book in the Destiny’s Child series. These are standalone stories where a child brings together two characters. I’m always tentative about such reads – aware such books will fall on one extreme end of the spectrum, whereby I will adore the child or I will feel as though they’re nothing more than a forced element of the story – but I found Prescription for Love to be an enjoyable read.
I’ll be completely honesty by saying I wasn’t completely won over at first. I’m not quite sure what it was, but I wasn’t pulled into the story for a couple of chapters. I was interested in a number of elements, but I wasn’t pulled under the spell. I cannot pinpoint when this changed, but it wasn’t long before I found myself lost in the story. It won me over and I found it to be a story I could not put down – I was pulled into the lives of the characters, I was pulled into the romance, and so many events had me wanting more.
Without a doubt, it’s a wonderful romance that will quickly win you over. Going back to my statement about the use of children in books, I enjoyed the way this one dealt with an older child than I’m accustomed to in such stories. Often the children are really young, but this time the child character is on the edge of those dreaded teenage years – it added a different kind of drama, and I really liked this.
In addition to the drama added through the child character, there is plenty of other drama thrown in. It’s a somewhat quick read, but there is plenty thrown in throughout. Numerous elements that throw a wrench into the works, things that will leave you questioning whether or not the happily ever after will work out – and if it does, you cannot wait to see how they reach the point of such happiness.
Without a doubt, this was another great Zee Monodee read. Edge of Danger left me with the desire to read more, and Prescription for Love has left me certain I will be reading yet more of the author’s work.
This book intrigued me ever since I read the blurb - even more so when I found out that the author's inspiration for the male character was one of my favourite celebrity crushes (Jared Padalecki). Calling Home is the story of Margo Nolan. She's led a complicated life with much heartbreak, which has resulted in her becoming a self confessed Ice Queen. She's incredibly good at her job as a forensic pathologist, and she's pretty much made the job her life. That is, until her world is turned upside down by the discovery that she's to become the guardian of 11 year old Emma, the little girl she loved and lost many years ago. Margo has no idea how to deal with a tween, but left with no other choice she must simply get on with it.
Luckily, help is at hand. After moving in next door to hunky village doctor Jamie Gillespie, Margo discovers he's good with children and he's more than willing to help out with Emma. Margo's grateful, but also concerned - the hot young doctor seems to have feelings for her, and she doesn't have room in her life for a man. Or does she?
Calling Home was a fabulous read. Well written and realistic with lots of sexual tension thrown in, it's a heart-warming romance, but not the sickly sweet kind - just the kind that makes you grin like an idiot whilst reading. I was totally invested in the characters throughout, and found myself mentally shouting at them when they couldn't see what was in front of their faces. I enjoyed the book immensely, though I confess I would have been even happier had the sex scenes been included - mainly because of my crush on the delectable Doctor! However, the book lacks nothing and I'd definitely recommend it to romance readers.
Calling home is a wonderfully written love story, about hope, trust, love and change and a place to call home.
Zee has created a wonderfully compelling storyline that will suck you in from within the first pages, you will find yourself at the end sighing and sheepishly grinning. The storyline is fluent flowing and will have you reading till the very last pages and wandering where the hours have gone. Im a sucker for a well balanced love story and Calling Home is certainly this.
Margo becomes a parent to Emma a 11 year old Teen she is to be her guardian. Margo never being close to anyone ,yet alone being someone’s mother is unsure how to do so.. She has loved Emma since the day she was born. Loving and caring for her in her younger years - her best friend dies and Emma was left at the cluthces of her grandmother out of spite. Working as a Forensic pathologist Margo tends to spend every waking moment working - her new calling is somewhat of a big change in her life but she wants to be a great mum to Emma and will try her best doing so.
Handling a child let alone a Teenager is one of the hardest things that Margo has ever had to do. Discovering a mothers love, learning to be there and open her heart not only to her daughter but to others Margo's ice queen exterior is just a front.
Sexy Village Doctor Jamie lives next door and in Margo's time of need Jamie seems to be her constant Knight in shining armour. But Margo puts up her cold front, not letting herself get close in fear of not being able to make someone happy. Never once thinking mabye its time to thaw out that icey exterior and let someone in.
The past comes back into Emma's life, causing friction between Margo and Jamie, Jamie feeling that something is wrong with the situation but Margo giving the benefit of the doubt finds herself in deeper than she imagined , she is turning away the ones whom want to love her .
A love story filled with passion and sexual tension, enough Chemistry to blow any chem lab in the near vicinity and wonderfully created characters with definition and depth. Zee has put forth all emotions wonderfully, I can assure you will be sheepishly grinning one minute and maybe even teary eyed the next. Your heart will be racing and your eyes will be a fluttering.. The Sexy doctor is ** swoony **.
Calling home will pull at your heart strings and leave you starry eyed. For all those who love a wonderfully plotted romance with a little sexual tension, passion that’s magnetic and even mystery then this read is for you!
This is not the first book I've read by Zee Monodee, and in this, as in other works of hers, I see her masterful touch with characterization. This book is so different from her romantic suspense offering, the edge-of-your-seat plot of Walking the Edge from the Corpus Brides series. Calling Home is not about a sweeping adventure, epic quest or heart-stopping action. Here, however, it really shows how the author is a pro at building memorable, believable characters that creep into your heart...real people you find hard to let go.
Margo is a hardened, seasoned professional. A first-grade pathologist who never makes the mistake of engaging her emotions. So, what is she to do when cast in sudden motherhood of a rebellious tween who feels betrayed by her abandonment years before?
Jamie is the typical (hot!) village doctor who was supposed to be destined for bigger things. But the simple life calls to him, and he values personal fulfillment and happiness more than a fat bank account.
Mix these characters together and you have oil and water. To complicate matters, an inexplicably strong physical attraction has Jamie and Margo in a stranglehold. Jamie has it all figured out, but Margo is not such a romantic. Can they see past their perceptions? Can Margo finally let go and find balance within her life?
This type of story may have been told before, but not in so exquisite a way. Zee Monodee weaves magic with her characters, she truly does. From beginning to end, I was on a rollercoaster ride of emotions that wouldn't let up until long after I finished reading the last page. I was so engrossed that I literally forgot everything else until I was done reading. This is a sweet romance, a gem of a book by an author you will no sooner forget. If you love unforgettable romances and fast paced, easy reads that leave you breathless and vulnerable, please put Zee Monodee on your TBR list.
I would recommend that readers buy any of her books, and they cannot be disappointed.
I wish I could be one of the characters in one of Zee Monodee's stories. She has such a wonderful way of writing. Her characters are relate-able; so much so they could easily be your actual neighbours or friends. Their thoughts and problems are ones that you can sympathize with and understand, and no matter what happens in Zee's stories, you know you will get a fulfilling ending.
This was indeed the case with Prescription for love. Margo is a headstrong, fiercely independent woman, and Jamie is the boy next door... more like sexy, romantic, doctor next door. The banter and chemistry between the two was wonderful and so much fun to read.
Emma is a typical teenager; there to push her mothers buttons.
I really felt for Margo in this story, she hasn't had an easy life and each bump on the road has caused her to shut herself from love; something many people do. It was refreshing to read about a normal, hard-working woman trying to find work/life balance and seeing it all work out for her.
If you're looking for a sweet, funny, light-hearted read that leave you feeling hopeful, then this is a book for you.

Prescription For Love by Zee Monodee is an amazing book. Ms. Monodee has delivered a book that is well-written and furnished it with phenomenal characters. Margo is a forensic pathologist and is guardian to 11 year old Emma. Jamie is the town physician and their new neighbor. Their story is touching and will warm your heart. There is plenty of drama, humor and spice to keep readers wrapped up in this fantastic story. I enjoyed reading Prescription For Love and look forward to reading more from Zee Monodee in the future. Prescription For Love is book 1 of the Destiny's Child Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This book was amazing. Filled with emotion, mystery, just enough drama, and of course romance. I love how Jamie first saw Margo for what she presented herself as, but looked deeper and saw the truth in who she actually was. Margo possessed a tenderness that both her past and profession forced her to hide from the world, until she no longer needed to because of her daughter and Jamie’s loving ways. It takes Margo a long time (and a full powered blowtorch) to break the ice she’d encased herself in.
Jamie was younger than Margo, but his maturity didn’t allow the reader to witness it. I loved the way he became a mentor to Margo’s daughter. It came naturally to him and that melted my heart. Jamie also had demons he had to deal with which made him a complicated character, but I’ll admit not as complicated as Margo – the woman had gone through many trials and tribulations in her life, ending up stronger, if no colder, for it – until her daughter and Jamie came along.
*This ARC was received in exchange for an honest review* This is the story of Margo Nolan, busy in her life as a forensic pathologist and working on the biggest case of her life, when everything is turned upside down when eleven year old Emma comes back into her life, moving to surrey they move into a big house which is shared with the sexy Doctor Jamie Gillespie. Sparks fly but Margo can’t let go of the past, Jamie has got into the heart of her daughter Emma and herself but she doesn’t know if she can love. I loved these characters how Jamie was with Emma and the attraction between Margo and Jamie, this really grabbed my attention and I look forward to the next in the series.
Margo Nolan has built a wall around herself after one man ruined her perception of love. But a young girl bursts into her life, and begins to melt away the ice surrounding her heart. But will it melt enough to let young doctor Jamie Gillespie in, or will her cold demeanor return?
Zee Monodee does it again with Calling Home. This book is filled with well-developed characters, and raw emotions, instantly grabbing me into the story and not letting go until the very end. I look forward to the next in this series.
Prescription for Love is a lovely romance novel about a strong and determined woman, Margo, who is a forensic pathologist. She takes her job very seriously and is wholeheartedly committed to work and her city lifestyle. She is not interested in emotions—only facts. As the plot thickens, we learn about events in her life that have caused her to become so cold, calculating and callous. The story is about her reticence toward love, the evolution of her feelings and her ability to finally let love into her life. Margo is content with her life in the city, until her very best friend dies and leaves her with the sole guardianship of her teenage daughter Emma. Believing that living in the countryside would be better for the girl, Margo abruptly relocates them to a small, sleepy village in Surrey, England. Margo is unprepared to deal with, let alone discipline, a despondent teenage Emma who feels all alone and betrayed by her mother’s death. Although she knows and loves Margo, Emma is not happy with the situation, especially Margo’s lack of parenting skills and her inability to show compassion. The shining knight, Jamie Gillespie, comes into their lives as the younger, mild mannered village doctor who is taking over his uncle’s practice. When Jamie meets Margo, he is immediately attracted to her. But, because of Margo’s aloof nature towards him and her resolute structured relationship with Emma, he initially determines that Margo is not interested in men and probably had a relationship with this so-called “best friend.” As circumstances have it, Margo and Emma are forced to relocate again, and they end up moving into the other side of Jamie's mansion. Both Margo and Jamie tiptoe around each other in the beginning, but their mutual affection for Emma keeps them connected and allows them to get to know each other on a platonic level. As Margo continues to take on the role of mother, and Jamie grows into a friend and mentor to Emma, a series of incidents occur that bring Margo and Jamie further together. They realize their passion for each other; however, there are still a lot of fears and prejudices that Margo must work through. She is able to overcome her anxiety toward love with the kind and gentle guidance of the understanding young doctor Jamie. Much of the wit in the book has an English humor bent and some of the words are spelled differently than I expected. I think the relationship between Margo and Jamie is thorough, refined and enticing. The love story between the two of them is wonderful, although in some cases I would wish for Jamie to be a bit less perfect. The relationship between Margo and Emma, however, was powerful in the beginning, but by the end it became weak and murky. I am left wondering how Margo and Jamie as a couple will deal with this growing, anxious teen. Also, the relationship between Margo and her job—with all of the horrors of dealing with death and cadavers (especially of young girls)—was never fully addressed. I would also prefer a bit more action and drama in the plot. Overall, however, I thought the book was a delightful and satisfying read and I thoroughly recommend this enchanting romance.
Margo is a forensic pathologist and Jamie is a doctor. Margo finds her busy lifestyle uprooted when she becomes a mother to Emma, her best friends daughter. Jamie, a doctor who cares for Emma after an accident and also the man who lives next to them, becomes someone that Margo never pictured. Having a rocky past love life and an aversion to relationships, Margo is not ready for what is to come.
This book was so good. The story was filled with pain and love. It showed the love of mother (even if not biological) and the hectic life that comes along with being a working mom. The job that Margo has brings just a touch of danger and fear to this story, which made it all the better. It was written very well with lovable characters, romance, challenges, and love. I absolutely loved reading this book and was even able to finish it in one sitting, because honestly, I could not put it down.
Here we get a sweet, hypnotic romance set in a wonderfully charming place with extremely memorable characters, a solid, likable plot, and fantastic chemistry between Jamie, the sexy new doctor and Margo, a spirited woman who has her fill of trouble thanks to the teenager she is in charge of.
I got into Zee Monodee's books with The Lawyer's Pregnancy Takeover and I fell in love with her writing and I immediately wanted to read more of her books! This romance made me sigh deep in my soul and had my heart singing. It was completely cute and fun, heartfelt and romantic. There was some push and pull that really drew me in and the whole British charm really set my heart a-fluttering. I am loving Miss Monodee's reads and am looking forward to seeing what else will be next!
Prescription For Love gets an ADORABLY DELIGHTFUL FOUR SHOOTING STARS!
This book was given to me in exchange for an honest review
This is the first book I have read by this author, and it was an interesting, enjoyable yet fast read including a forensic pathologist and a doctor. The story was a tender romance filled with plenty of emotion. After Margo Nolan was ruined by one man, she has built a wall and plenty of layers around herself for protection.
Margo was used to living by herself, but now she has more responsibility than just herself, and she wants to be a great mum to Emma.
The storyline is fluent flowing and will have you hooked up on reading till the very last page and so is the style that this story is written in
After being pushed out of a baby's life that she considered her own, Margo is thrown back in. After her best friend's death, Margo is left to be mother again. Emma calls Margo her mum. Although not biological, psychologically Margo is Emma's mum. Margo is a well-known and liked forensic scientist who has to leave whenever death calls. After Margo's nanny is not found fit, she is in pursuit of another. When the new young doctor, Jamie Gillespie, comes into the picture, Margo is beside herself. After two relationships that ended badly, Margo has hardened herself to men although Jamie has her feeling things she has not felt in a long time. Margo has this wall around her heart that Jamie needs to break through to make Margo see that she does deserve happiness and can love. Great read.
Margo is a brilliant forensic pathologist. She has recently become the guardian of an eleven year old girl. She has been hurt by love in the past and believes she is incapable of a true loving relationship. She moves next door to a Jamie, handsome, much younger doctor and the sparks begin to fly. Can Jamie break through Margo's tough exterior and show her how to love again? This is a well written and quick and easy read. Very entertaining.
I got this book as an ARC reader. This book was Great. I couldn't put it down. I didn't want it to end. Want to read more of her Books. Zee you are an Fantastic author.
Being able to write a romance heroine that's an ice queen and to pull it off without putting the readers off poses a huge challenge. I don't think I could do it. Whew, Margo is a tough cookie. She's as difficult to crack as one of the cases she would work on as a forensic pathologist. But the hero, Jamie, is the perfect man who has the skill to break through all her layers and she has plenty. He melts her heart. Who wouldn't want a man like him? He's not perfect in a stuffy, uncomfortable way but in a wholesome, family-man way. And he's sexy to boot.
I enjoyed the journey that the heroine went on - how she not only fell in love but also discovered she was capable of loving her daughter. I liked that she wasn't a perfect mother who did everything right but stumbled and fumbled along the way. Don't we all need a good man to help us be better mothers? There's always a lovely homely, family feel about Zee's books that makes you feel like you're a part of the characters' lives, and I enjoy that each of her characters are unique and have their own flaws and strengths - they're not all a slight variation on the same theme. This was a tender romance with plenty of emotion and highs and lows. A lovely read set in Britain, filled with typical sayings and manners.
